- Chief Investigative Correspondent Lisa Guerrero and the Inside Edition I-Squad put air duct service people to the test in the fourth installment in a special series of investigations. Inside Edition rented a house in Montclair, New Jersey, for an entire month, tricking it out with more than a dozen hidden cameras and then calling in the fix-it guys to see what would happen. For the fourth installment, we enlisted air duct-cleaning experts from the National Air Duct Cleaners Association, Mark Zarzeczny and Anthony Paterno, who have a combined 50 years of experience, to fully inspect the home's air ducts. Then, we called in the technicians. #InsideEdition

Being in the repair world most of my life, first with cars, then buildings you learn being honest and upfront not only saves you tons of headaches but keeps people coming back. Some of the people who spent the most money with me, I didnt charge the first time because it was a simple job. I'd rather have a customer for life than one decent job.

Absolutely, my mechanic is a great guy and I'm so lucky I found him after dealing with other mechanics. He tells it to me straight and while he occasionally recommends getting something replaced he's never pushed about it unless you know a timeline of how long it'll be good till. I recommend him to everyone

He always hated my father's "holier than thou" attitude and thought he knew more than the mechanic with 40 years on his belt because my father watched car shows LMAO. As the bread winner of the family cause he all but made my mom stay home to raise us for 13 years, our mechanic, Steve, always considers how that 50$ fee plus 125$ part will hit us hard (fake numbers, just an example)
He's seen us all scramble eachothers wallets and bank accounts to pay for one fix on a car (catalytic converter) he ended up showing us the price of the part on his screen from the source he gets it, decided to do it himself so he didn't have to pay one of his guys, and only charged us base peice for the part.
We refuse to send our cars anywhere else. Not just because we know it'll be cheaper here, but because we know Steve's gonna do us right. Do a great job to fix our vehicles and have a laugh with some conversation on our way out the door.

I had a lady friend who wanted her water heater flushed out. Groupon said $49 for flush out. Needless to say the guy quoted her at $3,500 dollars cause he said she needed a new water heater. I checked it out and the water heater was fine. I flushed it out for free. Some of these guys will take advantage especially single women who don’t know any better or senior citizens. It’s always better to get at least 3 quotes from different companies

I told her if she ever needs it replaced they have them at Home Depot anywhere for $500 to $1000 and I would replace it for her for free. Only because she is a lady friend of mine.
@@efm2169 you clearly dont know how plumbing works. Water heaters cost anywhere from $700-$1000 and often times you have to re-route your supply lines when changing one out. And most companies pay their plumbers a 20%-25% commission. Meaning if he charges 3500 (2500-2800 profit) he’ll make about $500-$700 that day. This is why having a water heater replaced by a company will usually cost about $3000-$4000

This is why it’s best to educate yourself to do or fix as many things as you can yourself instead of relying on others. My father can fix and build just about anything which is pretty cool. Never really have to risk relying on others to do things for us.

When repairmen or technical staff would come to my house, I would show them what needed done and had him write contract even if coupon was included. I would watch everything they did and asked for old parts (furnace) etc . Wouldn’t make them uncomfortable but offered them bottle water or soda. You must look sharp and attentive and there’s lesser chance you’ll be taken advantage of. This lady did the same when I got car inspected. .
