- When tragedy strikes, GoFundMe is the place to go to raise money. Last year, $10 million was raised for the victims of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. There are hundreds of worthy causes on the site, but sometimes GoFundMe is used by criminals trying to defraud good-hearted people. Reid Herjo claimed on GoFundMe that his 13-week-old puppy, Atlas, was badly injured in a car accident. Hundreds of people were so moved, they sent in $14,065, but it turns out there was no car accident. #InsideEdition

This angers me to no end. My dog of 10yrs needed emergency surgery and I raised a go fund me for the first time was was only able to raise $1500 but my dog didn’t make it. I appreciated the friends and family that did help me but what this man dude was truly discussing and cruel

My friend has an uncle that was “raising money” to pay for his wife’s “cancer treatment”. At the time she did need the money for the cancer treatment, but instead he kept it away. And when the wife died, he remarried another woman 6 months later and used the money to buy cars and mansions, he still hasn’t been caught yet. I think it’s rlly gross

My mom passed away 2 months ago, my cousins opened a gofundme account without my consent. I reported them to gofundme and reached out asking they return the money. Till this day I have not heard from gofundme or them.
You should rule this problem through Law, not gofundme's administration.

I would contact the Attorney General in the state where your cousins live and get them to investigate. I know of another case where someone died and her uncle quietly started a Go Fund Me and then pocketed the cash. Go Fund Me gets about 15% of each fundraiser, so they have no incentive to investigate fraud or admit how much fraud is actually occurring.
I find it really entertaining to watch criminals ignoring the questions, trying to hide their faces and just run away from the interviewer like cowards.

When my grandma passed away in 2016 I made a gofundme because we were $700 short. It was shared and people donated $2500 well we only need $70p so we were gonna try and figure out how to give the $1800 back but everyone who donated said let my grandpa keep since now he'll only have one income so we put it in his bank account. Two days later gofundme sent an email and called saying they were alerted by a "concerned" person saying I lied about my grandma passing and I was using the money for a vacation🤦. We had to send proof that she passed and where the money went which upset us all because we were already dealing with losing my grandma unexpectedly then had to deal with a bitter spiteful person but gofundme apologized for the extra stress and the inconvenience.

This makes me so mad. GoFundMe helped me so much. I was diagnosed with MS last year and was out of work for a while recovering from my flare up. I fell behind on rent and GoFundMe allowed me to put the money toward my hospital bills and rent.
