Hidden Camera Shows How Strangers Can Get Close To Unaccompanied Minors on Planes

Airlines charge parents an extra $300 to keep their children safe when they're flying alone, but just how protected are they? A 13-year-old girl who flew from Dallas to Portland by herself over the summer says she was sexually assaulted by a stranger sitting beside her. With as many as 400,000 children flying alone on any given weekend, Inside Edition conducted a demonstration to see how easy it can be for someone to approach an unaccompanied minor. #InsideEdition

When I was 7-14 I would travel alone via the unaccompanied minor program from New Zealand to Australia 4-6 times a year. The airline always looked out for me so well and made sure I was happy and entertained me, also there was special seats right at the back for me with no other passengers. What was probably more dangerous was the fact that I started flying completely solo at age 15, with connecting flights. I’m glad I did but that was scary to not have someone walk you through the process.
This is my experience too although flying from FL to NY every summer. They sat me in the front or all the way in the back with no one else like you said, checked on my frequently, and my mom walked me to gate and my dad picked me up at the gate where a flight attendant waited with me. I think this can work if done correctly but I get people being concerned when something like what happened to that 13 year old or the little boy happens. I agree though when I was 15 and my mom couldn’t walk me to the gate anymore it was really stressful.

As scary as people can be during flights alone, they can also be so kind! I went from New York to California once alone when I was about 9 years old. I had the window sear and a sweet old lady sat by the aisle. She noticed I was scared during huge turbulence, and the sweet old lady held my hand until it settled down. Such a nice woman, I’ll never forget her. My mother also went through something similar. My mom had a young looking face and looked around 14 when she was 18, a grown woman kept telling her to eat more on flights and later asked how old my mother was. My mother said she was going to college and it shocked the woman! Regardless- strangers can sometimes really take care of kids.
I was an unaccompanied minor 4 times before I got old enough. Didn't have any problems like this at all. Scary to see other situations happen to others

I used to fly by myself very often when I was younger due to my parents co-parenting in different states. I’m glad this never happened to me. My heart goes out to MaKenzie
I used to fly alone as a kid all the time and SO many creepy people would try and talk to me. Most of the time I would just give them a disgusted face and ignore them, or when the flight attendant came around to check on me and asked if I needed anything I would say loudly "yeah. Not to be sat next to an old creepy guy next time" or something along those lines. They wouldn't say a word to me or look my direction after that 🤣
Jeez i'm sorry for that your parents taught you right.
Your parents taught you right! And I think you worried to staff so much too😂
BRAVO YOUNG LADY!!! 👏🏻 I’m a flight attendant and I show all my unaccompanied minors the exact button to push if EVER, they feel uncomfortable for any reason, and I’ll be right there. But I need them to have enough self esteem and self conviction to do it. I can’t have my eyes on them at all times but I will fight any battle at the drop of a hat for them, I just need them to let me know. You were raised correctly

As a woman who was once super young and went on a flight myself, this angers me. I fortunately got on a nearly empty flight (4 people up front and just little ole me in the far back corner like this girl) didn't get the trauma experience the unfortunate ones had,
And this went on for 30 minutes for the victim. That's what angers me. And he got let go. This sickens me.
Children should always be accompanied by an adult, they should start letting kids under 16 on the flight for free if it's not affordable!

the simple way of stopping this from happening is
not letting kids go on flights by themselves
it’s not that easy, a lot of kids especially in the states will usually fly solo to visit family or a parent in another state an dif their parents cannot accompany them to the plane and have nobody else to do so the child will have to go alone. it’s also important for children to learn this early in life to gain a level of maturity. most airlines would be much better than this one at making sure the child is secure and safe during the flight.
When I flew to India by myself I was really nervous and started sobbing because I thought I would miss my flight everyone was really friendly and some people started calming me down they were all really friendly and talked about their families and where they lived and everything. Man I remember all the unaccompanied minor flights I went on as a kid. Always a blast. I remember it was always mainly Delta, and they always were above and beyond in service. Between flights they always had like mock "daycare" zones. I think one was called Dustys Den (Trust me as a kid I even knew how awful that sounded) but it was legit and just some TVs, PS2s, and XBOXs. Id always raid the fridges and take a bunch of snacks and drinks for my flights lol. God Bless the ATL/Colorado Airport!
I’ve been traveling by myself for the past few months and I’m 13, I’m so grateful to never have any of the happen to me
I think there should be a special closed in area for minors that don’t have a parent/guardian with them. It has 3-5 rows, TV’s and meals.
edit: i am reading this a year later and i understand how stupid the idea is now and how much money it would cost but wouldn’t you prefer your kid is safe rather than being groped??
Ya!
yes
they have that at the airport when i went.. it was a room with tv and snacks! they were super nice but they don’t have it on the plane
@@chumbucket1280 which one?

Mackenzie’s story nearly brought me to tears. Terrifying and shame on the Airline and that man. I’m sorry honey, you didn’t deserve that
@bruh wtf
@Abdul Basit Amogus
Shame on the parents for not being there to protect THEIR child.
lol
@bruh lol
I honestly don't think a child should be aloud to fly alone until around 16
Thanks for the tips
