I flew alone when I was 9 to China and this amazing Chinese woman was sitting beside me. She taught me how to count, say some basic stuff and basically unwrapped the food for me the airline gave us. She was like a mother to me for those 10 hours because the airline did not supervise me at all once I was on the plane. I’m so thankful that I got someone so wonderful and not some sexual abuser. Poor girl that this happened to her 💔
I was thinking the same. You don't know the cabin crew, nor the passngers on that plain, plus the crew is very busy and don't have that much time to check up alot. So, should a parent be willing to take that risk?
When I was 7-14 I would travel alone via the unaccompanied minor program from New Zealand to Australia 4-6 times a year. The airline always looked out for me so well and made sure I was happy and entertained me, also there was special seats right at the back for me with no other passengers. What was probably more dangerous was the fact that I started flying completely solo at age 15, with connecting flights. I’m glad I did but that was scary to not have someone walk you through the process.
This is my experience too although flying from FL to NY every summer. They sat me in the front or all the way in the back with no one else like you said, checked on my frequently, and my mom walked me to gate and my dad picked me up at the gate where a flight attendant waited with me. I think this can work if done correctly but I get people being concerned when something like what happened to that 13 year old or the little boy happens. I agree though when I was 15 and my mom couldn’t walk me to the gate anymore it was really stressful.
I flew with them a few months ago, no problems. Even though I’m still under 18 I can fly without any unaccompanied minor services, and I’m not doing it again. More fun to do it on my own
I flew solo as a kid many times to go see my family in Mexico and was always assigned the very first none first class seat on the isle in view of staff. Always boarded the plane 1st and exited last with the flight attendant. Mexicana airlines did a great job 👏👏
yes, isolation for children please! isolation! they have to be safe so better not inter act with other people, god knows they can grow up to be healthy human beings and we can't tolerate that! ... they all need to be on drugs for their lack of social skills and anxiety, keep it going!
As scary as people can be during flights alone, they can also be so kind! I went from New York to California once alone when I was about 9 years old. I had the window sear and a sweet old lady sat by the aisle. She noticed I was scared during huge turbulence, and the sweet old lady held my hand until it settled down. Such a nice woman, I’ll never forget her. My mother also went through something similar. My mom had a young looking face and looked around 14 when she was 18, a grown woman kept telling her to eat more on flights and later asked how old my mother was. My mother said she was going to college and it shocked the woman! Regardless- strangers can sometimes really take care of kids.
I was an unaccompanied minor 4 times before I got old enough. Didn't have any problems like this at all. Scary to see other situations happen to others

So i didn’t have a bad experience thankfully.
If you're not trying to spend days and/or thousands of dollars travelling the world just because your kid needs to get somewhere, I feel like a service that takes care of a child from boarding to landing (or whenever another adult can take care again) could really be handy depending on your situation.
I think there should be a special closed in area for minors that don’t have a parent/guardian with them. It has 3-5 rows, TV’s and meals. edit: i am reading this a year later and i understand how stupid the idea is now and how much money it would cost but wouldn’t you prefer your kid is safe rather than being groped??
I have once flown solo when I was 11. The difference was my dad booked business class. They took extra care. One of the best experiences of my life ngl. I was pretty excited at that time. It was a 3 and a half hour flight.
I flew alone a good three times when I was 11 and everything went fine you just have to be attentive, don't act dumb. My gate number got changed and luckily I noticed or else I would've gone on the wrong plane.
Bruh, those parents have EXTREME faith that everything will go ok for their 8-year old traveling in an airplane. You don't know what kind of people exist out there man.
I don’t understand why parents let their children travel alone. I’m a freaking grownup and prefer to travel with someone if possible. I literally flew solo for the first time this June and was a bit anxious. I can’t imagine a poor child, with so many creeps around.
I've been flying as an unaccompanied minor for super long and now have started to do it myself. I go on 4 flights by myself a year and have been doing it for about 7 years. You get used to it
My mom had no choice it was just her and her father her sister lives in another country and would take her during summer break so she has to board solo all the time.
When I went on the unaccompanied program, (NY to LA) I was upgraded to first class because someone didn't show up for their seat, and a woman showed up every five minutes to check on me. It was great. I even got all the amenities!
Lmao I really don't think that's the reason And also I don't see any problem of a man sitting besides a kid He only gave her a candy and it seemed cute. Also he might have some shaking problems (though too young I think)
@@damee09 I’ve never flown by myself but from what I’ve hear it depends on the airline. Just know that it is very unlikely something will go wrong and if something like what happened to the girl in this video does start happening stand up and scream. Yell as loud as you can for the person to get away from you. People WILL help you, at the very least it’s going to bring a lot of unwanted attention on that person and they will leave.

João Leote • 21 years ago It’s true, my mom has sent me to a store really close to my house, and every time I get out and I’m all alone in the street I start feeling nervous and uneasy and I just run to the store, buy the thing and run as fast as I can back to my home. I just don’t like being in the street alone is terrifying for me but I don’t really know why.
My mother was a hardworking single parent and couldn't always travel with me. She still wanted me to be able to visit family so I often flew solo. My first solo flight was at the age of 5 to London for a wedding. I flew solo many more times as a child and I always had a great time. The flight attendants were attentive, I remember being moved to first class on a flight so that they could keep a better eye on me. I also got to visit the cockpit a few times. Virgin Atlantic and Delta were my favorite airlines.
When my granddaughter was 15, she flew by herself from Seattle to NYC to visit her aunt. Her return flight was routed through Boston. There, she discovered her flight had been either cancelled or delayed. Because of her age, the airline didn’t feel any responsibility to assist her. A kind man, seeing her crying, gave her $20 so she could eat. I don’t remember what happened but she was safe and made it home the next day. Needless to say, her parents and I were really upset with how the airline handled it.
That happened to me before when I was 14 I missed my second flight and they didn’t care I just slept in a chair and had McDonald’s and got on another flight the next day
...Um... I'm sure she got her kid back. Where else would he be? Still in Boston? Also... why wouldn't you make every check to make sure your kids on the right flight? Walk back there, make sure he's settled (like the father of the first girl did), make sure he had the right passport n everything... where did the kid get the wrong passport? He make a trade or somethin?
I think if they’re not claimed after 6 months they’re sold in bulk to a wholesaler. they treat these children with no more care or attention than the luggage so I can only presume it’s the same procedure all round.
pacamacaca The Wanted the stewardesses to pay attention to the first girl, in the last row because the last row is where the kitchenette is at for flight attendants

Why would anyone let their child fly alone... THAT'S JUST SCARY!
Somehow getting in a strangers car is a big no, but a plane filled with strangers in chaotic airports with more strangers? Just fine.
If you're not trying to spend days and/or thousands of dollars travelling the world just because your kid needs to get somewhere, I feel like a service that takes care of a child from boarding to landing (or whenever another adult can take care again) could really be handy depending on your situation.
I agree
I flew alone before
I started flying by myself at the age of 5 cause my parents were divorced. Situations like that happen all the time.

Why would you and her parents let an underaged kid fly alone? What is wrong with this world?

He make a trade or somethin?
