- College student Madison Russo documented her cancer "treatment" in a series of heartbreaking social media posts. She claimed to be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, leukemia and a tumor on her spine the size of a football. Russo also raised over $37,000 on her GoFundMe page. But Iowa police arrested the 19-year-old, calling it all an elaborate scam. The alleged scam was first spotted by doctors who wondered about an image that supposedly showed her receiving chemotherapy.
This sucks, now people will think twice about donating to the real people in need.
People like her laugh when they receive donations because they think theyre so smart and the other person is so dumb

Cancer killed my dad last week. It’s horrifying to witness it take over the person you love. Why people would pretend to go through this is crazy. My heart goes out to all of you, who actually have had to endure the real pain cancer causes.

I had stage 3 breast cancer at 28. People who do this make me sick....my go fund me raised about $1200...I had the port. I did 6 months of chemo 30 rounds of radiation and countless surgeries. I became a single mom half way through my chemo because my fiance couldn't handle it and started spending all our money on drugs. My youngest child was 10 months when I was diagnosed. I had a shaved head for his 1st birthday. I'm thankful to still be here and try my best to live my life well. I still deal with a lot of side effects from the treatments. Radiation leaves a lot of tender areas, especially in my ribs. My brain doesn't function as quickly as it used to, and I often lose my train of thought. She should have to visit actual cancer patients to see the people she hurt in what she did.

My grandmother passed from cancer when I was 9. I spent 2 years watching her fight, in and out of the hospital. I spent 2 years waiting to see if she was going to get better, but sadly she just couldn't fight anymore. This woman makes me sick. Those of us who have had it, or has family/friends that did know the struggle. Shame on her.
My father died from a violent brain tumor that he could have done nothing to prevent or treat. Recently, my boss faked having cancer and kept bragging about how he is the poster child for looking after his health, how he didn't need much treatment because he caught it early (actually it was because he NEVER had cancer). The amount of seething anger it has caused me is insurmountable. I know I should not let it affect me but I can't not. It is one of the most sick and twisted things someone could do.
Mines passed from ovarian cancer, I was 13 when she passed but i also watched her fight for 2.5 years. I wish I can get her back.

Lost my dad to pancreatic cancer in 2021… one of the worst, aggressive and terminal cancers out there. Hope she learns her lesson and that she never gets this disease later in life. 😔
According to cancer research UK, almost 1 out of 2 people will develop some type of cancer in their lifetime. Many will be insignificant, and most will live.
But it’s still statistically likely than not that she will probably get it.
The important thing is, they caught her! GoFundMe is pretty strict and pretty good at refunding donations when something goes wrong

Did they refund the funds that George Santos stole from a disabled vet who needed $3000 for his dog's operation? If so, they didn't do it in a timely manner.
The thing is she still got to enjoy other peoples money. She should face jail time.

The thing is when GoFundMe processes refunds; that's money coming out their bank account, not the scammer. She still stole money from donors, and since they were refunded; the victim is now GoFundMe. GoFundMe should sue her for everything she has left. I also hope the court orders her to visit hospitalized cancer patients to witness what they go through everyday.
As a cancer survivor I am appalled by this shame on her. She has no idea what it’s like to go through treatment for this disease . Wouldn’t wish it on anybody.😢
The same here. I am a two time cancer survivor and to go through chemotherapy treatments, prescription medications, which ALL of them makes you sick because of the side affects of chemo and the medications. Made me confused. tired, in a lot of pain, etc.

Exactly, I lost my mother to cancer. And seeing the pain she had to endure is nothing to play with, not being able to see her for periods of time, she would often forget who we were because she was so doped up and disoriented, like bruh I was only 10 seeing the main person in my world just slowly sink. My mom passed away from stage 4 ovarian. For an year, it was the hell on earth with the ordeal. The pain they go through is unbelievable. To think of something despicable like looting money from hard working people. Pathetic.

I lost my dad to leukemia on 02/23/21 after he entered the hospital to start chemotherapy. He died 3 1/2 weeks later. It really is upsetting to see someone fake cancer or any other major medical issues. I don’t have cancer but I do have other medical issues and I have a central line in my chest. I’ve come close to dying thanks to my condition. Thankfully she has now been exposed. I guess she figured she could use a ton of tape to make a port look “real”.

I will say tho that it doesn’t always mean your hair will fall out. My grandma had stomach cancer and beat that through chemo and the only thing that happened to her hair was just a little bit of thinning, not even noticeable to anyone but maybe us because she said it was thinning. She bought a wig and everything in anticipation of it falling out but it never did.

I’m a young widow, I lost my husband of 15 years to cancer and this just makes me sick. We found out and he died 12 months later leaving me a single mum of 10, 9 and 3 week old. We certainly didn’t have time to take pics and create go fund me pages, though I wish I had, the struggles during and afterwards is real. But people like this take it away from people that really need it. One of the Lowest forms of human beings

Got diagnosed with end-stage cancer 3 months ago. Going through chemotherapy now. Sometimes it’s hard and painful to get out of bed,get dressed etc. I couldn’t wish this on anyone because you don’t get to do things you used to do or enjoy food you used to love because of nausea/no appetite. Despite all that I have to go to work to pay bills. I pray she doesn’t get cancer she’s craving for because it’s not a joke.

Cancer patient here as well. I have leukemia and with the medication I am taking no way I look this good. Lost a lot of hair. Lost 40 pounds. I am still working 40 hours per week. It’s just despicable that people do this. I hope she gets minimum 10 years. And you take care and keep fighting 👌👌👌

I have lymphoma, I went through 6 cycles of one chemo combo and 2 of another, tumor still there. I had a stem cell transplant late August, tumor still there Oct 3. I have another scan on the 30th. I live every day afraid because I don't want to leave my mother, a senior, behind. This is what real cancer sufferers deal with, scammers make my blood boil so much. It feels like they're using my struggle to make money.
She got some country miles on those 19 years.

I have leukemia at 17 havent received a dollar off of it, I am disgusted with this young womans actions. She deserves everything that comes to her.
I also remembered that my cousin had a cancer, when I was in a college. My cousin was so young and beautiful, she had gotten cancer and within 6 months, she died. I saw her , she was dying everyday. Still I missed her and love her.
My mom was saved from a intestinal cancer just recently, her recovery process is something that I don't wish upon my worst enemy. However I do wish to see this lady passing through it just for her to feel and understand that she really crossed a line here.
Most of us will get cancer at some point if we live long enough so that may actually happen.

My husband would be celebrating his 72nd birthday today had he not died from pancreatic cancer. We never asked for help. However, we were blessed with incredible friends and family who supported us. This entity is despicable. I hope she not only goes to jail but is required to reimburse the caring people deceived by her deliberate and calculating decision to take advantage of good people. Contemptible, IMO.

One of the students in my medical school also did this. Faked seizures and such all the time due her cancer. Had a blog and received gifts and such from people. Wanted to be an oncologist. Luckily she was discovered and essentially kicked out…

I donate if I know the person or if I see the story on the news. Last time was for a family in which a child and her father died in a house fire. If I can, I’ll always try to give a bit.
I don't donate anymore. Even stories on the news aren't real like the one word the boy lied and said the neighbor said him on fire when they found it on the ring camera that he didn't set him on fire. That family made tons of money on GoFundMe and their story was also on the news

It makes me so angry when some fakes their cancer like that. My dad died from cancer in 2009 and when I see cancer patients, it breaks my heart to see them go through that. Especially children going through cancer.

My niece who had leukemia died at 6 years old. I can’t believe people could even think about faking cancer or any illness.

Wow! That’s really sad. My daughter actually does have pancreatic cancer. My granddaughter started a gofundme account to try and help her with medical expenses and only a few people have donated. My daughter works two jobs but still struggles to make ends meet. It’s a shame that people like this take advantage 😢
I am surprised none of her friends or family members knew about this or exposed her. Shocked!
