My iPod classic is my own personal radio! I use mine during car rides and listen to music through the aux port. The iPod classic still very much has lots of uses and is still really cool and useful
I've still got 2 classics at the moment and it is my favourite bit of tech ever. There's something about carrying 20,000 songs around on a simple dedicated device. I'll never get sick of them and I hate that Apple don't manufacture them anymore. Hopefully they do a reissue in a few years or so
I LOVE my iPod classic 160gb. It's a GREAT way to carry my whole library of music and some videos. Disappointed that Apple discontinued. I did NOT want wifi on it or multitasking tools bc that's what my phone is for...my library back up is my iPod, for which I have actually had to restore my desktop. I will NEVER give it up until it dies.
I still use my iPod, love it!!. Mine is an cf storage that I installed myself. It’s nice. To listen to music without interruptions and all in one placéis great!
I still use my iPod classic Video and I love having all my music with me. the joy of just picking it up and playing whatever is in your library is so gratifying. I can't tell you how many times someone wanted to listen to something else and I was able to say, "I have the whole album, just click on it"
I've found bluetooth headphones to be more cumbersome than not. Constantly having to turn them on and off just feels strange, and the possibility of them dying and becoming useless until I get home is just inconvenient. I definitely prefer my wired earbuds.
Wired earphones would be more convenient imo if they fit inside ears and then didn’t break every 3 months. Only the in-ear ones like Apple or Samsung EarPods stay inside my ear and these earphones also happen to not last long. Something like AirPods is worth the £160 one off fee if they’ll last for multiple years, have a case that can charge them & so essentially only need charging just once a day if you use them intensely (and even then it charges quick). Not to mention the added convenience of having more room to move around whilst listening to audio. Durability is the main decider for me. That’s why I feel Bluetooth earphones are better. It’s all subjective though
as an audiophile myself I still think ipod classics are the best way to carry your entire music collection with you, everyone streams nowadays but for that you rely on internet and data which I dunno but to me it's not so comfy. ALso ipod classics have very good audio but if you want the best with Gen 5 or 5.5 cause the discontinued audio chip on those is way louder that the ones used in the last 7th gen. I have memories of my old days in the 90's when we had to carry around a huge cd player and a cd case cause yeah that's what we had, and when ipods came out I thought they would become the best and more convenient audio players and they were imo... another thing to keep in mind is well, while some would say the ipod classic is too bulky or big remember... that thing is STILL smaller than a modern smartphone and it has all your music saved in it... no need for streaming so your ipod is your best friend for long car rides or while camping :)
If you are an audiophile, check out products like FiiO players etc. Same price as iPod, bigger storage (sd card) and audio quality which cannot be compared to iPod (=way better). The builts quality is also very good.
Great video. Word of advice, if u "can't get yourself to sell" ur ipod, thats ur gut telling u this thing means so much to u, and if u do sell it, TRUST me, u will live to regret ur decision. I've had every Ipod and being a broke teenager/college student at the time, I would always sell it to buy the new one, and when they discontinued it I sold it for a phone. U have no idea how nostalgic these devices are and how much of a time stamp of ur younger days they are. For example, few weeks ago I found my Nintendo DS and turned it on. New Super Mario was in, and it STILL had my old save from like 2011, and immediately I remembered the Greyhound bus trip I took it on to California to see my family. Dude I almost cried and got chills, I got transported back in time and it brought a huge smile to my face. Anyway, just an older than u man letting u know these items really do matter, we just don't realize it yet when we're younger. I'm by no means 80 years old or anything like that, just old enough to start realizing life passes by and its the little things like this that make the trip
I just bought a 30GB 5th generation iPod on eBay for $40 and I'm waiting on it in the mail. The concept of carrying all your music on one little dedicated device is hugely appealing to me. Sometimes I just want to go out without my phone but still listen to tunes.
I have three used 160g iPods that I continue to use, and they all have 15, 000 songs on them. I play it at work, and I rotate them to extend the life. I also have my old 120g that I bought brand new that also still works great. I love the iPod, and I think it's terrible that they quit making it.
I just bought a used 5.5 gen 80GB with the best DAC on any apple product for just 25 bucks, its scratched but not that bad. Thinking of replacing the front and touch wheel. I would replace the back as well but I would have to have unmatching serial numbers.
@@TomasLomba same here but I bought a 30 gb, I bought an upgraded battery, a thicker housing, a micro sd card adapter, and some micro sd cards and once they all get here I'm gonna upgrade this old thing. It actually still works too but I want hundreds of GB storage and a week of battery life on one charge.
Best device Apple made, I own the 6th generation for 10 years and use it daily. You can't compare it with multi purpose devices as smartphones. Recently I bought a second one with a broken HD which I replaced with a SD. Lack of bluetooth is no problem and is easy to add.
I still use the iPod touch 2nd generation from 2008 today. Although its old, it does actually have bluetooth, so I can actually use any new bluetooth headphones to listen to music on it.
Actually, the 5.5 Enhanced was the last to use the Wolfson DAC, It was the 6 when Apple switched over to the Cirrus DAC, I always have an iPod on me, I usually carry a 6 or a 4. I've never liked how the 5 sounded on my car audio system but always liked the way a 5 looks.
I have this exact iPod Classic 160GB. This iPod still rocks in 2018. Audio quality still rivals most MP3 players out there, and I think iTunes along with this iPod makes it an awesome Music organizer. I own 2 other iPods, a 5th Gen iPod Touch 32GB and another iPod Classic 80GB (This 1 needs a new battery though)
I had the 80GB Classic then eventually got the Touch then eventually got a smartphone. Can’t say I really miss having an IPod Touch, but there was just something special about the Classic

interesting, but like a lot of the videos concerning the classic they fail to mention the amazing battery life. your iphone cant keep up with that and storage of up to 30,000 songs and yet this is always or almost always never mentioned. perhaps is it were there would be a new version of the classic out and it might just have bluetooth
I bet if Apple made a small batch of collectors edition iPod Classics with flash storage, a Wolfson DAC, lightning port and Bluetooth in 2018 they would sell so fast, it'd be like the NES Classic.
I've thought about this a lot and I think that they would sell like hot cakes! If the prices online reflect how they have regained popularity, they are having a resurgence! Just flash storage, lightning port and bluetooth would make them hugely popular! I would buy one!
Imagine Giving this instead of Zune to Peter Quill ( Star Lords) lol the guy was so happy to hear that Zune could hold 300 songs. He'd lose his shit when he hears that Ipod Classic can hold 40,000
George Khintuba didn’t he mean that the Zune had 300 songs on it already? Zune was a hard drive player so it could have almost as much songs as the iPod
My 7th gen ipod classic just broke. It's like losing a family member. They said there is something wrong with the power connection to the board. Did you fix one like that? Or am I fucked?
@@BC-qb7tx You could probably buy a new motherboard, and just replace it, but they cost about as much as a used ipod on ebay so I would rather just buy another one from ebay, and keep the now broken one for parts for the one you buy.
Loved my 7th Gen ipod classic and still have it. But I can still carry my entire music collection in my 128GB micro SD in my Android device. The music player is just so much better
Not a huge apple fan. But I am a huge IPod fan. The shuffle just works so well, and I have no distractions like text messages or calls. Still just as great as it was when it came out. Btw the Wolfson DAC is only in the IPod Classic 5.5 Gen (Enhanced Model)
You need to do some more research, the Wolfson dac is in most of Apples older products from iPods to iPhones etc and many of them are not even the best that Wolfson had to offer, its just better than quite a bit of dac combinations Apple has used.
A few months ago I thought I lost my classic. I was distressed because there is simply no other, I searched for days for a replacement and nothing matches my baby. I cried happy tears when I found it, but I frequently worry about what I will do when it dies one day.
This is where ebay becomes your best friend. You can find every single replacement part there. It's theoretically possible to build your own iPod classic from scratch with brand new spare parts if you're crazy enough.
An iPod does not track and report anything you are doing, doesn’t emit microwaves, if Rockboxed can play any type of file, can use simple drag and drop instead of horrid ITunes, can be updated to flash drive for not much money (up to 1TB capacity), battery life is insane when using Rockbox and flash drive (over 50 hours of listening and probably and months on standby), is easy to use and much better sound quality than Bluetooth.
Yo just upgrade it with ssd card. I ipod classic completely died and sound output die befer the ipod died. Then i found on Ebay that they were upgrading old iPods ESPECIALLY the ipod classic. they do make ipod touches with 256 gb. Don't buy one though it's a fucking rip off, buy a used 2-3 year old samsung phone with expandable storage and you'll get a much more capable and usable product for either the same amount or less
@@shauncameron8390 no it's a rip off because for the same amount of money you can get better products even from apple themselves. other than the base model, iPod touches are really overpriced now
Long trips? Take the iPod. Save your phone battery. Plan on being without wifi? Take iPod, save your phone data. Want to listen to higher quality sound? iPod Want bluetooth? Add Bluetooth module inside the iPod..
You get a pass as you clearly state its your Personal Opinion. Everything you said however is why you can’t appreciate Audiophile headphones, Lossless formats, A EARPHONE JACK and having a physical copy of your fave Music and or Video content, you just don’t think you need to. Streaming music equals half-arse quality but hey lets degrade it further via wireless/BT and create something that once resembled the Music it started as. A Musical Engineer once said if you can tell what instruments are playing you are hearing the song as recorded in the studio, from there your aim is for it to be as if the Artist is right next to you. Let’s just say Beats headphones will never get you there, for those that don’t know, theres a firmware called Rockbox. It beautifully replaces iTunes UI adding many many more features, i-Flash adapters boost storage up to 2TB on some models with flash drives, upgraded batteries are being documented pushing days of continuous music, days, ask your $2k 2020 smartphone to do that.
Theres just something about carrying 5K+ songs in your pocket.. So much cooler then streaming music all the time.

6th and 7th gen iPod classics did not have a wolfson dac. They discontinued the wolfoson after the 5.5 gen enhanced version.

The Genius I know. I got the phone for bout 40 bucks and the seller wanted about 65 bucks for the iPod but he agreed to the trade so now I have the iPod. It was a used phone reseller.
I have 2- 7th gen classics, 1 i use in my car the other is still new in its' wrapped original box.
buickmonte charge the battery or it will die and need replacing
@@peterxyz3541 Hey bro, funny you should mention that,i just read about that a couple of days ago on some other forums,i will do just that this weekend, thanks!
I use a Bluetooth dongle to hook to a Bose wireless system and it works perfectly.
Great video I like the uc Davis background 😉👍🏼
ipod classic 2006 still good :)
Get a fiio BTR3, it'll make your ipod classic brand new
You only have a thousand songs that’s not really a vast music collection
What are you talking about, he has wayyy more
bernardo luis at 1:31 it shows how many songs he has
You Can Use Bluetooth With This If You Have A Bluetooth Transmitter.
does anybody else got problems with iTunes supporting ur iPod??
sucks ass that my iTunes doesn't recognize it, can please anybody help me or got the same Problem ; Gtrngs fr Germany
Not really, but I do have to sometimes disconnect my iPod from the PC/iTunes then re-connect to get my iPod recognized.
wish I kept my classic hopefully soon iPod Touch will get a 256 gig of fash storage
they do make ipod touches with 256 gb. Don't buy one though it's a fucking rip off, buy a used 2-3 year old samsung phone with expandable storage and you'll get a much more capable and usable product for either the same amount or less
@@HearMeLearn
A 256GB iPod touch is not a rip-off. It's just overkill unless you plan on making a lot of videos.
@@shauncameron8390 no it's a rip off because for the same amount of money you can get better products even from apple themselves. other than the base model, iPod touches are really overpriced now
The newer iPod doesn't have a Wolfson dac, it has a fucking Cirrus Logic dac. Get your shit right.
Long trips? Take the iPod. Save your phone battery.
Plan on being without wifi? Take iPod, save your phone data.
Want to listen to higher quality sound? iPod
Want bluetooth? Add Bluetooth module inside the iPod..
can i buy your ipod and i want a ipod tell any websites to buy
Talking about DAC then proceed using Bluetooth headphones. iPod doesn’t even support Aptx.
