    This is going to be a huge seller, especially if they introduce a blue version. Great dimensions, superb movement, brushed tool-like finish and that T-Fit clasp, yet with a enough pop that will enable it to be a default daily wearer in virtually any attire. Reminds me of my 5-digit Rolex Sub's overall appeal, which is perhaps what Tudor are aiming for without treading on the toes of the current Sub's more overt luxury?

      Cheers Robert, I agree it's definitely a winning formula and will be a fan favourite for sure.
      I have it on good authority that the Wilsdorf Foundation's long-term strategy for Tudor is for the brand to replace Rolex's current position in the market and move Rolex up to compete with PP.
      When that happens, in probably no more than 5 years from now, I think this model will be almost as highly revered as the Sub is today (admittedly without the Sub's history of course).

  • @PeteMcConvill
    @PeteMcConvill 2 года назад

    Its a very nice, kind of generic, dress diver for people that want a dress diver that can be ok as a single watch. If you loved the hard edge of the (original) Pelagos but just wanted it small then I guess your out of luck. If you own a couple of watches already that do diving, dress, beater roles Im unsure why you'd want another all rounder. I see here the weakness of the minimal SKU strategy of rolex and tudor - you have to make a lot of generalist, sort of make most people kind of happy watches that largely overlap in function and style and give up the idea that there will be the exact watch you want available.
    Its highly instructive that the instant this was announced BB58s are getting dumped onto the market - after all they are 95% the same watch.

    • @Escapement24
      @Escapement24  2 года назад

      Completely agree - it's almost designed to be a 'one size fits all' watch (in terns of its aesthetic, rather than its size specifically) aimed at a generalist market. In this regard it might not please enthusiasts who like different watches for different purposes or looks, but Tudor are clearly hoping that it will appeal to the huge increase in people who are just starting to get in to watches.

    Great review, I was lucky to get one on day of release, and have to say its a lovely watch, you don't see the sunburst dial in normal use, its very subtle even in outdoor light, the bezel is far more pronounced. my only issue is the clasp, yes it doesn't need the diver extension and it also scratches like mad, after one day mine had loads of desk dive scratches even know I had only worn it in bed working on a laptop... I have found a work around using an ink rubber, yeah really, but I guess that is taking a layer of the titanium off. so not a long term solution, I guess this will mark up a lot if worn daily for months/years. But it is what the Rolex sub would have been if Rolex didn't make it more bling with each model. also one thing I found strange is it has 21mm lugs...

  • @derekp7864
    @derekp7864 2 года назад

    In my opinion this is more like a piece of shiny jewelry, style over function, so IMO the BB58 would be a better watch for actual diving as you can actually read the bezel. Replace the silly bezel with matt black and it would have been perfect. If they offered replacement inserts that would fix it.

    • @Escapement24
      @Escapement24  2 года назад +2

      Agree that if you're looking for a watch specifically for diving then maybe this isn't the one for you - a Doxa would probably do the job far better. But I think the reality is that few people buy dive watches to go diving and Tudor knows it. So does Rolex for that matter and I don't think I've heard anyone complain that the Sub is too shiny for a dive watch.
      Like the Sub or the Sea Dweller, the 39 is a watch for all occasions that also happens to be perfectly capable of doing the job if you want to take it diving.
      With all that said, if you don't like the bezel that's personal taste and if we all liked the same things this hobby would get boring pretty fast!
      Thanks for watching 🙏

    How many people go into an AD every day and ask about a submariner? How many will now walk out with a pelagos 39? Lots. Not all of them but a lot more will be happy to get this while they wait or maybe instead, it’s an east sell for sales staff.

    I'm gonna buy one. I had a LHD and flipped it cause it was too big, and I have a 7.5 wrist. Anyone complaining about the reduced WR is silly, there's a hand full of people in the world that will ever dive go 500 and I'll gladly sacrifice 300m of useless WR for 2.5mm of reduced case thickness. Rolex makes a two tone sea dweller, watches aren't tools anymore, they're fashion accessories and anyone who says otherwise is just fooling themselves. The only true "tool watches" left are G Shocks and iwatches. Furthermore, here's your sub reissue. Size and style wise, it's as close as were gonna get. Tudor was never going to reissue a 1:1 submariner analog, stop dreaming.

      I love the LHD and it's the one I almost bought last year, but that 39 fits my ridiculously stupid wrists far better

      @@Escapement24 I’ve no got the biggest wrist but love my LHD loved the quirky nature of it.
      And due to the fact my AD is giving me lip service about a sub the 39 might be added instead

      I think the 39 would be a great alternative to the Sub and personally I wouldn't see it as a poorer substitute

    I cant get over that weight. My mudmaster is heavier! It's gonna fly off the shelf that's for sure.

    the more I see it the more I like it. Never would have considered a Pelagos before this. and size was the least of my issues with the old one. it was just ugly.

      I liked it from the off, but didn't think I loved it enough to add to my collection. Having spent some time with it in the metal I'm sold.

    I understand that some people can't pull off the 42mm OG Pelagos, but I feel like Tudor are muddying the waters. The pelages is their professional diver that goes up against the Deep Sea and the Planet Ocean, and I think this is how the Pelagos should stay, as the 42mm 500m Pro diver.This new 39mm version is more a Black bay than a Pelagos. You won't see Rolex doing a watered down Deep Sea. Tudor, don't go down the Omega road, where their ranges are all over the place. Remember the KISS principal, Keep It Simple Stupid! 🤣
