So if you can afford a Rolex Submariner, you can get a Tudor Pelagos AND a BB58, and walk away with change. The Pelagos 39 is a true future classic, all the touches are 21st century updates to the classic Tudor Sub formula. If you want a Pro diver, go Pelagos 42. If you want a classy, modern, dive inspired sports watch that’s made to go anywhere and do anything, go Pelagos 39. If you want a retro nineteen-fifties inspired classic dive style watch, go Black Bay 58. Tudor have a watch for (nearly) everyone now.
I have a BB58 and the Pelagos 39 is a great watch but I won't be swapping my BB58 for a Pelagos. BB58 has a lot more charm and character to it. Either way, you can't go wrong
I thought so too, I tried it on today and compared it to the BB58 on a steel bracelet, both available. I went for the Pelagos 39, it really is a stunning piece.
You watch guys need to get over the obsession with diving capabilities and tool watches. Virtually no one wears them for that function any longer. They are nearly all fashion pieces. Everyone is beating around the bush with this watch and you've come closest to nailing it with this comparison but still missed the mark. This is a sub-alternative and the best one we've seen since the originals were released by either company. And that's why I love it and why it will be so successful. It is an understated, significantly more affordable, sub. End of story. Now someone help me find one!
That’s like buying a car with a Ferrari badge that goes slow and saying nobody races them or drives them fast anyway. So many divers who wear these along with the dive computers in the other wrist.
very good quality video my friend. This youtube channel is under-rated and needs to be seen and known by more peeps. Really nice job ! thank you for your work and highlights!
This is a great comparison of the three watches! I had to make two separate videos, P39 vs 58 and P39 vs SubC, yours is definitely a more viewer friendly video! Keep up the good work!
Loved this when it came out, but as a blue 42mm Pelagos owner the only thing I can think of is that Tudor stripped all the unique charms of the brutally functional 42 to make the 39 more appealling to the masses. Nothing wrong with that approach and it's still an epic watch, just missing some of those key elements (dynamic clasp, hev, cut out rehaut, etc.) that made the first Pelagoses (Pelagi?) a Pelagos
Love it. Like Bark and Jack, youv'e pointed out the marketing, with the linen suits etc. , but its gotta be the best looking diver, nay watch ever!!!!!!
Lovely watch my choice would be Pelagos 42 all day from the Tudors. The Sub is amazing and I own it but don’t love the high polished sides how big the crown wears and the bezel it’s too toy ish compared to the Pelagos 42.
I’ve had a deepsea black dial for years, wife bought me both blue and black pelagos this year. As amazing and perfect watches they are, the rolex just has that something extra- beside the hefty price tag! Choice and value with the Tudor all day long.
I know what you mean, but it’s also deliberate in the design. Well, the bezel does have the 120 instead of 60 clicks, which is nice. But other than that there are a lot more polished surfaces and a shinier dial/ indeces etc that make it more elegant. But if you take that away it’s kind of hard to compare a steel sub or a similar to an all brushed titanium pelagos. They do have great clasps and the new micro adjustment should be in all Rolex watches. The easy link is useless, as 5mm is just way too much extra girth for any normal temperature changes. I digress.
Just picked up my Pelagos 39 - absolutely love it. I was all set to add a BB58 OG to my collection alongside my Submariner 124060 and Pelagos FXD. The P39 is perfect for when my Sub is a bit ostentatious or when the FXD is too casual. The P39 can do it all.
I really enjoyed this stream and have liked and subscribed. I bought the Pelagos in blue 3wks ago & have the 39 on order. I’m sure too be buying more from them. I also have some watches from Omega, Rolex but I wish I’d joined the Tudor party earlier. 👍
Thanks for the review this is great content. I think a submariner and a pelagos 39 can coexist in the same collection. I would reach for the pelagos more often given how light and wearable it is. Modern subs are nice but for a 6.5 inch they’re kinda of chunky now.
I've had two Subs, so I'm not looking for a Submariner replacement or equivalent. I bought a black BB58 a few weeks ago, and I am loving it. I said that to say I'm saving up to buy either a blue Pelagos or a Pelagos 39 if Tudor comes out with a blue version. I can easily wear a full size Pelagos, but my BB58 has me thinking I might love a Pelagos 39, in blue...
just so you all know, Tudor movements are not inhouse. They are either developed by Breitling or Developed by Kennisi exclusively for Tudor which is maketed as in house...
Good review. Watch geeks need to stop squealing very time Tudor puts a watch out that isn't a Submariner. Tudor will NEVER make another submariner. Tudor and Rolex are now very separate companies. Saying that, Tudor will never directly undercut Rolex with the same specifications. If you want a Submariner, buy vintage or get a new Rolex.
I had a few Tudors: the LHD Pelagos, Heritage Chrono blue and Heritage BB Chronograph. I thought they were all spectacular but they couldn’t satisfy my Rolex desire. Two different categories to never be compared IMO
I don’t think you should ever get a Tudor in place of a Rolex. Save and get a Rolex if you really want one. Buy a Tudor for what they are - really well built and finished Swiss watches for their price bracket. The issue I have with buying Tudor in place of Rolex, is there are other, cheaper homages you can buy. Why buy a Tudor when you can buy a Stenhart? Why buy Steinhart when you can buy some un-named Chinese clone?
@@kevinbarnbrook4728 hah! I like that. The Tudor GMT does share a likeness to the Rolex GMT master, and the BB Pro does look like an old Explorer II, though. Pure Titanium is softer so more wearable. I have handled this new Pelagos and it feels premium. The comment is not dumb as its the same argument with 9ct and 24ct gold.
They will sell a million of them, so they probably don't much care what watch enthusiasts think. I like the looks of the thing - it's a dive-style watch built for casual wear - but not enough to shell out $6k for it. I've had the 58 for a couple of years now and have been trying to get my hands on the submariner. The pelagos 39 has made me question if it's worth jumping through hoops to get the sub not to mention the price difference.
If you already have the BB 58 and are looking for a Submariner, I wouldn't get the Pelagos. It means what you really want is a Rolex and in the end you will not be fully satisfied with anything else.
