Personally I bought the 39 to replace the 5 digit sub I had and kinda missed. I found the sub was slightly top heavy and the bracelet was nice but jangling can be a downside too. I personally like the solid feel and fit of the modern Pelagos 39 better. Having the adjustability in the clasp while living in a hot climate has become a must.
There might be inconsistencies in QC with the sharpness of some edges. Both of the P39's I've tried had bracelet edges sharp enough to shave bits of my nail with minimal pressure. For that price, I'd expect some finishing instead of leaving the brushing entirely raw.
I really like the matt finish and off white colour of the indices on the LHD. If the 39 was like that, I'd 100% buy it. I'd 100% buy a 39 in blue too if they ever released one
I was going to purchase a P39 instead of another Rolex because the hands on the P39 are easier to read. Then, you did a video on the Glashutte blue dial 39.5mm watch which I immediately purchased, with a fully brushed bracelet, at my AD instead of the P39 because of the incredible finishing that will allow me to wear the watch on the beach and in the boardroom. Thank you for these videos.
@@YoureTerrific I appreciate this watch more and more everyday. Your review and holding the watch in my hand sold me - I could not walk away from it.
Love my LHD! Roulette date, coin edge bezel, 500 meters..... Mega diver. Very fun watch. No question the 39 is a home run. I'd take the 39 over a no date sub personally.
And can I also mention that the LHD is easily the most comfortable watch to wear, with the crown out of the way. Also, how many left hand watches are there? Its look is almost unique. And the 'roulette' date is makes me check the dial every day: Is it 'red' or 'black' today? Amazing for the money!
Finally! I’ve been waiting for this video ever since I purchased the p39. It’s such a great piece especially for those after a modern diver for smaller wrists. The clasp adjustment is so convenient. Not too flashy but has some great light play. Can’t remember what size your wrist is but it looks great on you 😅 Edit also mine did have sharp edges at the start to the point my wrists were sore. But after a few weeks they smoothed out. Also this watch scratches so easily, you can breath on it a see a new scratch. I noticed my first scratch by the time I’d got back to my car from the AD! That first scratch hurt. But a million little scratches later, they don’t both me at all
also, I 100% agree with you on the flashiness. I think it's the perfect amount. Less flashy than the submariner but has a little more flash compared to the OG pelagos which was a bit too serious of a tool watch for me. This strikes the balance quite well IMO.

Love both and wanted the 39mm but my first love was the LHD. Touch of vintage (a hint of creamy patina, the roulette style date, LHD like the old MN Tudors…), touch of modernity (titanium, bracelet totally over engineered bu love it, the straight sapphire , ceramic bezel). I was at my Tudor AD as I wanted an FXD but so hard to get however they had an LHD - tried it on and….walked out with it 😂. Love the watch and going to be hitting the beach and diving this summer so can’t wait to bring it in adventures. I have a BB58 Navy so I have my 39mm. The 39mm is really nice for smaller wrist or people that don’t like big watches but the normal Pelagos is the OG tool watch IMO. Anyway you can’t go wrong with either of them.
An incredibly brief and ill-informed review - GREAT WORK!. I want to like the P39, and agree it is a well done watch, and can't fault anyone for wanting/owning one, but realize I could not be satisfied with anything but the LHD. So by all means, everyone please go for the P39 so you don't drive up the price of the LHD before I purchase one. Thank you.

one note on the hand's lume. The hands take longer to charge, so if you artificially charge it with light, it takes longer to saturate. In practical use, the hands are the same as the dial, and even after 8 hours, you can still read all in a dark room.
I had the 39 I found it weirdly sharp...no one else has mentioned this but it made it extremely uncomfortable despite being worn loose. I also didn't like what they did with the rehaut it's just plain cheaper.
Excellent video. I love to see new videos about watches that were already covered. I know it's the nature of the youtube beast to cover the latest and greatest but good watches have an audience before their initial offering.
I enjoyed the video. I acquired the LHD in an under 1000 number. I don’t even know if they’re even still numbering them. I thought then that this was the best dive watch on the market regardless of price. And I’ve had plenty. I still think so. I’m down to three watches after many many many many variations. My VC Overseas Blue as my haute do everything (which I bought before the great zombie apocalypse), my LHD as my beater (admittedly a hell of a beater) and my father’s 1962 18 karat omega constellation on an 18 karat bracelet for the rare black tie event. Done.
Great watch…I only wish the lume on the hour hand actually existed after a very few minutes while the rest still scream…..and I wish they had included a half link which I found quite necessary in spite of the adjustable link.
Great comparison Evan! Really enjoying all the on the wrist shots and side-by-sides! Would love to get you another smaller sized diver to checkout and compare! Just say the word! Hope you had a great 4th! All the best, Ben
I'm shopping for a black Pelagos or LHD for my 6.5 inch wrist. Although it's much better sized for my wrist, the Pelagos 39 doesn't really interest me and I'm not sure why. I think it's because Tudor removed the cut out rehaut which is such a unique feature of the Pelagos line. Also I prefer the matte dial and bezel.
IMHO, as a current LHD owner and based merely on observations/reviews of the 39- the 39 is a bit more “casual” and less “tool-ie” in its presentation. With its slimmer size, sunburst dial, 200m only rating and slight reflective bezel properties when compared to the standard Pelly or LHD- it’s like a more “tame” iteration of the Pelagos. I don’t know, just my take.
I was nodding in agreement throughout that video until the last sentence. I have been asking for a smaller pelogos but when they take away the date, the rehaut that wraps around the markers and make it shiney. They have made something else that I was not asking for. I’m currently struggling with a decision about buying the San Martin version of the pelogos as it’s nearer to what I wanted the p39 to be.
Hi. I’m a watch nerd…and a pronunciation nerd (police?). Pelagos or Pélagos is pronounced Pé-la-gos and not Pel-a-gos…or anyway close to the way Britt…Pellagiss or any Brits for that matter pronounce it. The watch’s name comes from a town in Greece and means “depth of the sea” and is not pronounced as in archipelago. Awesome vids by the way!
Like most people that reviewed the P39, you missed the most important measurement! It was the first time Tudor used it, and a big reason that it looks so good IMO.
I’m currently trying to acquire a Pelagos LHD pre-owned. If one had the box but not papers, would you buy? Everything about the P-LHD is perfect for me.
Nice video! Regarding on the fly adjustments with the T-fit, it is very possible without needing to take the watch off of your wrist. Yes, it does take a little dexterity with your thumb and index finger, but its pretty easy once you’ve done it a couple of times.
After trying both on I bought pelagos LHD, it can be worn in any situation ( doesnt mewn it should be) including under a suit cuff. I like the matt dial/bezel as its not in your face flashy, but looking closer you see the deeign cues and quirks that make it special. The 39 looked too small on my 18 cm wrist.
I was excited to see Tudor use a new case material in the Red Bull Pellys. It gives me hope they'll graduate to grade 5 Ti like every other luxury brand.
I love the 39, and it’s almost perfect for me as an everyday watch (it seems really arrogant to call a £4000 watch a beater, but it would be perfect). However, I have to accept that I need a date on my watches. Without it I just find myself always missing the date. But the Pelagos 42 is too big for me. I guess I’ll just have to wait for Tudor to release the Pelagos 39 Date LHD…
@@YoureTerrificcan’t convince myself to spend Rolex/Omega money on modern Panerai, even though I’d love to get one at some point (manual wound). Too many scandals, too much “in-house” mockery from our Italian friends, BUT awesome style !! … Tudor on the other hand is a great value proposition.
lol I just bought my mint pelagos from a watch dealer and they said the previous owner traded in for a panerai. You don’t happen to be in Asia are you?
The 39 is a perfect size but I gotta go with the LHD. There's more character and quirkiness in it (for whatever quirkiness is in a tool watchy tudor anyway).
This strikes me as yet another example of Tudor giving enthusiasts everything we're asking for...with results as boring as focus groups (or algorithms) inevitably produce. There's objectively nothing wrong with it, but not a single thing of interest-not a human spark of inspiration to love or hate. If watches were still tools we needed, I would get the appeal. But since they're not, and watches are things we wear for all sorts of other emotional, illogical reasons, I don't see the point of a purely logical watch that avoids provoking any emotional response at all...
Great video, as usual. I've yet to try on the 39 but agree with your overall conclusion. As long as you feel you can rock the OG, why go for the 39? The 39 is a modern sub alternative, just as the BB58 is a vintage sub alternative IMO.
@@YoureTerrific yeah I get it (the date thing :) but what I meant was the OG and 39 are so different to my eyes, it's pretty hard for me to view them as alternatives to each other.
Great video, thank you! I still have to see the pelagos 39 in person but something I love about the original Pelagos are the rehaut cutouts. It rellsy makes the indices standout in a nice way. Does it bother you that the pelagos 39 has less water resistance than the LHD both? I assume the answer is no because if you're 200M deep then youve got bigger problems (i.e the tombstone).
For a while I'd convinced myself that this was the watch, the last watch I'd ever need to buy. But I think there is one glaring thing I can't get past; The clearly more versatile and some say office oriented watch doesn't have a date when it really should. The hard out big brother tool watch has one it arguably doesnt need. But the watch aimed at desk divers doesnt. I think that's the wrong way around. Though i know date/no date divides people, but I prefer one for my daily. Also at that price I think the titanium should be coated or treated for higher scratch resistance
I’ve wanted a Pelly 39 ever since release, but considering my budget for watches will allow me to have that one Pelly and one more watch around the same price (or a little less), or 2 watches around 3k plus one around half of that, and I decided to choose the latter option. However, every time I see a Pelly 39, I wonder if I made the right decision lol
My opinion is that the OG ETA version is best for those that can pull off a larger watch (13.5mm thick, and only $300 for full Rolex/Tudor service). Because these watches lose value so quickly, I couldn't recommend spending almost $5K USD for a watch that won't be worth $4K next year. The in-house Pelagos 42 is averaging for $3,300 on eBay as we speak, with box and papers. Yikes. But, in the end, the Pelagos 39 is a terrific watch, and would even make a great "one watch collection" for the right person. Kudos. I hope you get one if you really want one. :)
Ugh. I'm one of those people who was waiting for a sized down pelagos and I went excitedly to the AD to try it on, cash ready. But it just wasn't for me. Under the ADs lights, the 'ghost bezel' and sunburst dial were in full effect, and without the stepped rehaut it just looked boring, and lacking warmth. I walked away. Here's hoping it will come in other variations that are more to my taste in future. I really like the OG Pelagos, but it's just too big for my slender frame.
A truly great presentaion, boss. I love this watch, I think it's perfect, but I only have Octopus Kraken money and that'll do for me. Maybe get a Sinn 556i one day, another well reviewed watch by you.
Great review. I just can't stand the brownish colour of titanium. A stainless steel version I would buy instantly, any size. Are you reading this, Tudor? ; )
I really liked the Pelagos 39 when I tried it on, more than the BB58. It wears like a nice compact diver on my 7.25" wrist. Could I pull off the regular Pelagos? Most certainly. I coincidentally got the chance to try on a vintage Sub not long after the P39 and found the wearing experience to be similar, which I liked. What would I change? I know I'm in the minority, but I would love to have a date, especially one like the LHD. If it were up to me, it would be at 6 o'clock too. Other than that, quick change straps and brighter lume on the minute hand. I'm not sure this would get enough wrist time in black (vs. my other watches), but wallet will be in serious trouble if Tudor comes out with a P39 in the same shade of blue as the FXD.
I have to agree about the BB58. I owned the black dial and sold it. Ultimatly, I found it boring and didn't stand out from the plethora of other dive watches. Almost akin to a model, perfectly prortioned and attractive, but yeah, well boring. I've owned the pelagos 42mm in blue and boy is it "BLUE". Anyway my next diver will be a LHD 42mm, it's different enough to stand out of the crowd. A bit like the white dial Omega 300m. I have a 7 1/4" wrist and found my original pelagos crown would dig in to the crease between my wrist and hand. No such thing with the LHD. Dive watches are meant to be toolish and he 42mm LHD fits that bill perfectly and not too dainty like it's 39mm namesake
In my opinion for a tool watch the LHD blows the 39. It has better specs, the size fits the "tool department" better and the dial and bezel texture makes much more sense. The 39 isn't beautiful enough to be dressy and it doesn't feel toolish enough either. Even that the 39mm fit much better my wrist I could not justify myself purchasing it when the 42 feels better, looks better and IS better in every single aspect. Pelagos 42 is arguably the best tool watch for the price on the market.
Man… this is video editing at its pinnacle. The first 20 seconds just made me smile. No video (that isn’t comedy) ever does that. Kudos to you man for creating such an incredibly produced video. The review is awesome too ;)

The 39 is a perfect size but I gotta go with the LHD. There's more character and quirkiness in it (for whatever quirkiness is in a tool watchy tudor anyway).
It's a great GADA but as a collector I'd love one that adds something to a diverse collection
If they use grade 5 titanium, and make a 39mm LHD, I will buy it immediately.
Great review!
Great video, as usual. I've yet to try on the 39 but agree with your overall conclusion. As long as you feel you can rock the OG, why go for the 39? The 39 is a modern sub alternative, just as the BB58 is a vintage sub alternative IMO.
Even people with large wrists like slim watches. I get it. Also, no date, like me as a teenager.
@@YoureTerrific yeah I get it (the date thing :) but what I meant was the OG and 39 are so different to my eyes, it's pretty hard for me to view them as alternatives to each other.
what is the strap material at 1:00
Man I love them both ! Are you on Twitter ?
Papa Elon said I was too woke.
Exactly 🪦
Wow great video, edits and music banger 👌.
The pelagischem 39 is nice watch. But no date is such a pity.
You did not touch the faux patina on your LHD, how ome?
It's the LHD (for me) by a mile.
I went “halfizes” purchasing the P39 with my son expecting I would have at least weekend visitation rights…I have not seen it in months!
Wondering if Norqain is on your radar at all?
A little
For a while I'd convinced myself that this was the watch, the last watch I'd ever need to buy. But I think there is one glaring thing I can't get past;
The clearly more versatile and some say office oriented watch doesn't have a date when it really should.
Would you review a Seadweller 16600 please it’s crazy how much I prefer it to the 16610. You have the perfect style of video to review it 👍
I have a 6.25 wrist and got the Pelagos 39. Perfect!
Wrist circumference is so yesterday. It’s all about wrist width now for the all important lug to lug.
Well said. Preowned 39's already down to 3900-4200 on occasion.
If you are concerned about value, then you are looking at the wrong brand
never been this early. intro was great.
LHD. All day. Every day.
Every day?
Pelagos 39 has what is called a ‘Sunburst’ dial and bezel

Wait, you got a lhd and you’re right handed?? What’s the point?
The crown never digs into the back of my hand.
@@YoureTerrific so it’s pointless… 🥁
A truly great presentaion, boss. I love this watch, I think it's perfect, but I only have Octopus Kraken money and that'll do for me. Maybe get a Sinn 556i one day, another well reviewed watch by you.
Great video!
Yeeeeessss!! Thankfully, I purchased out of pure joy of the piece and how it wore but I always value others options well mostly just yours😂😂
Your conclusion is exactly how I feel about it 👍🏻🖤
Great review. I just can't stand the brownish colour of titanium. A stainless steel version I would buy instantly, any size. Are you reading this, Tudor? ; )
I agree. LHD has tons of personality.
do they do a 39mm with date?
No but San Martin does...at 3 or 6. 😀
@@mtbbiker6401 what model?
@@Catcatcat3210 SN0121G. They do blue, black, green, no date or date at 3 or 6. Steel or Titanium. It's a great way to "test drive" a Pelagos 39.
Awesome video 😊
It looks really good on your wrist
100% agree with your thoughts on this.
The review is awesome too ;)
That bracelet edge is too sharp
Great review
The LHD is a beauty!
Had the 39 and sold it but kept my LHD
Tudor are producing some nice timepieces stepping out of the shadows of Rolex
