    Wish I would have found this video earlier. This guy goes from cheapest fix to most expensive which is the correct way to diagnose what may be wrong. After replacing the shifter switch(most expensive), the brake switch, the buttons on the steering wheel, I finally came across this video and figured out it was my 3rd brake light bulb on the top rear of the cab was out. After spending a few hundred on the rest of the other stuff, a $7 bulb was what the problem was.

      A scan tool

    • @lwjw3184
      @lwjw3184 2 месяца назад

      You can borrow one from most parts store's or they will scan it for you. Sometimes it doesn't detect the smaller stuff especially with ford vehicles and especially with the 3 valve 5.4 tritons, because most of their sensors are daisy chained together. So if one sensor goes out, it's going to effect all the sensors below it. But if you have never diagnosed an automitive electrical problem, then it's definitely worth the time to take it and have it scanned.

I would think that we would blow fuses before any smoke. Ouch.

They changed the cruise control switches on the steering wheel, clock spring and still has no cruise control. With your video I was able to diagnose the problem. It was the floor shift actuator. Why would your shifter bulb being burned out be a quick way of knowing if the part is bad? couldn't it just be a bad bulb? Because my bold isn't lighting up but the shifter is working properly.

    • @BuildItMakeIt
      @BuildItMakeIt  Год назад +1

      That’s a great point. If the shifter is bad and the bulb isn’t lighting up it won’t allow the cruise control to turn on. You can have a blown bulb and just replace that, but typically when the bulb isn’t turning on it is because the shifter is bad. It was designed that way to be an indication of a bad shifter.

    • @BuildItMakeIt
      @BuildItMakeIt  2 года назад +1

      If the bulb is out it may mean the circuit for the cruise control won’t work. The actuator is probably good, but with the burned out bulb it may be stopping your cruise control from working.

      Ugggg... intermittent errors are the worst. If it was my guess is you have either a bad brake switch, bad cruise control switch, or a flakey speed sensor. Since the brake pedal switch is so common to be bad it may be worth the 30 bucks for you to change it, but it is sort of a shot in the dark.

      @BuildItMakeIt  Год назад +1

      Are there buttons on both side of the steering wheel or just one? If you have buttons on both sides and both of the two sides aren't working then you may have a bad Steering Column Wiring Harnesses. If it is just the one side and it controls just the cruise control then it could be any of the issues I listed in the video and you will have to diagnose them.

    I have a 2017 f150 with adaptive. It started to randomly not work at all, no response to any of the buttons, then hours later it will work again. Checked tail lights, they are fine. I did replace the starter right about when this started, and I also wiped most of the engine bay down with a damp cloth, but I did not spray any water in the bay.

      Ugggg, intermittent problems are the worst. I find intermittent is often wiring related, or it could be a part wearing out. It is hard to diagnose it without just replacing parts. If you want to try replacing the pedal sensor switch that typically isn’t very expensive, and see if the problem goes away, or you could take it out and see if it is behaving weird.

      @@BuildItMakeIt Would a bad pedal switch not let the cruise light up at all? I thought it would only stop it from setting a speed.

      On mine the light won’t come on if it doesn’t set the speed, so any fault means no light. Yours may be different, but that is how my ranger and F150 are.

    I have a problem with the 2014 Expedition cruise control .When I drive for a while all of a sudden the maintenance indicator lights up and the cruise control gets stuck and the acceleration becomes weak.
    When I restart the motor sometimes it turns back on and sometimes the maintenance indicator comes back and the cruise control fails. Can you help , please!

      @@asamki81 oh yeah all those codes are with your throttle. I am pretty sure your cruise control issues are a secondary byproduct of the throttle problems. Once the throttle problems are fixed your cruise control will most likely work fine again. Most likely your issue is a faulty pedal position sensor, or something on that circuit.

      Finally, a problem occurred that made the main problem clear up.
      the gear shift got stucked.I called an electrician..He chicked all the fuses , and found a cord under the front fuses' box not tightly connected which explained why the cruise every now and then stucked.I remembered I'd gone through several big bumps that might have caused this.
      After connecting the cord, all problems have gone,and the maintenance indicators don't light up again. Thanks God !!

    Why go into all of those very detailed except for the fuses? Which fuse would be the ones to look at, as the Manuel doesn't say anything to indicate what fuse it would be

    • @BuildItMakeIt
      @BuildItMakeIt  2 года назад +3

      Yeah the fuses are tricky with the cruise control. I know of at least 4 different ones that could cause the problem. I find it just easier to check each fuse since it only takes around 2 min than trying to find every fuse it may be. There isn't a specific fuse for the cruise control that I know of on at least on the ~2000-2012 Fords.

    Hello. Two questions. If plunger will not always press down, is that an indication of failure. Otherwise, which pins (mine is oem 8T4T-9G854-AA for 2015 f150) which of the four pins do I use to test

    • @BuildItMakeIt
      @BuildItMakeIt  2 года назад +1

      Make sure the plunger is pressed down and the little side switched is turned like when it is installed. Sometimes the plunger is hard to get in this position but that doesn't necessarily mean it is bad. If in the "low" position and then the plunger has a hard time pressing down then I would say it is bad.
      So I am not sure on the pins but looking at similar electronic diagram it looks like normally pins 1 and 2 should be open normally and pins 3 and 4 should be normally closed. Then when you press down you should see pins 1 and 2 close. Take this with a grain of salt, but I think that is right. Search "8T4T-9G854-AA diagram" on google and you will see a bunch of different but very similar parts all with this pin configuration. Hope that helps a little.
