I'm pretty sure I've seen other videos with a mould release spray that you can spray in first before you cast, that way it pops out easier. Good job on this project man!
The bowl is really nice. I like the contrast of the different types of wood. Talk to Doug Moore about removing pieces from the mold. And BTW talk all you want.
I have to admit, when I saw you were using black resin, I thought it would ruin that bowl. Wow, was I wrong! The black outlining the different scraps, and filling in cracks actually looks great. Please keep up the good work. I am really enjoying all the wood turning videos, even though the last time I went anywhere near a lathe was high school shop class in the 80s. I wish I had the money for the lathe and the tools to take up turning myself.
Nice job Ed. Even after wrapping your mold with Tyvek tape I suggest spraying it with Stoner, a mold release, which makes it super easy get your blanks out.
That's great to hear Carol. I really liked the finish that the sanding paste left. I will definitely be using it going forward. I'd love to see some of the projects you've made. Please share them with us via the website when you get a chance. - Ed
Beautiful bowl nice job Ed. I really like the Acks Abrasive Sanding Paste and Polish, I've been using them for about 2 months they are a great product. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Sharon! I have a bunch more scraps now and I've been trying to figure out what to make with them. I don't want to do the same thing again. What would you make? - Ed
Wolf Ridge Woodworking being that I love jewellery a lot, I would make a jewellery box with different draws for all my treasures. But then anything you make I would sit and admire and touch thank you
Looks like I'm first. Nice project. Like the way the resin filled all the voids. Nice thing about black, you cant really see any bubbles unless you cut into a big one. Thanks, and keep em coming.
Funny thing that didn't make it into the video was that I squeezed the dye bottle a little too much and the dropper cap and half the content of the bottle fell into the resin. So it turned out darker than I originally wanted it to, but I love the way it turned out. Thank you Mark! - Ed
@@WolfRidgeWoodworking I noticed alot of black on the side of the cup. At least it went in the cup. Bout a month ago, I squirted flo green tint all over my left arm. Had a blockage...
I was wondering if you would like fly apart being held only by a little superglue in some places. This makes me think to try doing a similar thing using a spacer between all the blocks to get even more black in the gaps
A perfect use for scraps! Thank you, I have small little bits around been waiting to do something with. Looks great! Can you advise what RPM you were spinning at when applying the Acks products? Thanks and just subscribed!
Thank you Jay! To start, I go slow so I'm not slinging it everywhere. For the abrasive paste, I'll take the lather up to 500 rpm. For the polishing paste, I go up to 1,000 rpm. I hope that helps brother! Have a blessed day! - Ed
I used a sheet of corrugated plastic. It the same thing as cardboard, but plastic. I got it from Home Depot, but I'm sure you can find it at most home improvement shops or online. thd.co/2mt3ZqE
Talk all ya want. That is why you make videos right? How else are we supposed to know what is going on? Love the bowl BTW. Looks like it would make a great rice bowl. And there is no such thing as scrap wood.
What's the saying....Pictures or it didn't happen. I'd love to see pictures. Please consider sharing it on my website using the "Submit Your Project" link. I'll put it on the website so everyone can enjoy it. - Ed
The only point witch you have deserve for appreciation and subscription you have not used too much resin * love from Pakistan *
Great bowl!!
Thank you! It's time for another project with all of my accumulated scraps. - Ed
There is no such thing as scrap wood for a wood turner. Beautiful work..
So true George. I saved the cutoffs from this bowl too. Thank you for watching! -Ed
I'm pretty sure I've seen other videos with a mould release spray that you can spray in first before you cast, that way it pops out easier. Good job on this project man!
Thank you! I've now got some of that spray. - Ed
Great looking bowl! Now we just need a video using all the chips/shavings you've accumulated.
Funny that you mention that because I do save most of the shavings. Thank you! - Ed
That's a great looking scrap bowl! Nice work!
Thank you!
Gorgeous!!!! Can't wait to try this concept. Thanks!!
Thank you Brad! Please share it with us on my website when you do. I'd love to see it. - Ed

I have to admit, I was a little skeptical myself. Now, it's one of my favorite bowls that I've made. Thank you for watching!
That is a cool looking bowl. Great idea using the scraps. And thank you for the shout out.
Thanks Terry. I forgot to put links in the description. I just added them. - Ed
Great looking scraps bowl, love it
Thank you Ron!
Nice job Ed. Even after wrapping your mold with Tyvek tape I suggest spraying it with Stoner, a mold release, which makes it super easy get your blanks out.
Thank you George. Great tip on the mold release. I will try it next time. - Ed
I really like this. It is so interesting and very pretty. Well done.
Thank you! It's almost time to make another one. - Ed
Kind of reminds me of a patchwork quilt - well done!
Thank you Dennis! - Ed
Great bowl...I always keep my scraps to use for something else! I love Ack's and have used it for quite a while now.
That's great to hear Carol. I really liked the finish that the sanding paste left. I will definitely be using it going forward. I'd love to see some of the projects you've made. Please share them with us via the website when you get a chance. - Ed

I was worried about that too, but once I saw how the resin penetrated the seams, I wasn't worried anymore....well maybe a little at first. ha ha - Ed
This is the bowl Picasso would have made.
Thank you so much! I've got another one coming, but a platter instead of a bowl. - Ed

It is marvelous but cant you find a method to utilize the core by scooping it out and making smaller bowls with it rather than it getting wasted.
Thank you Kamal! They do have devices that allow you to core out smaller bowls, but they are not cheap. One day I would love to own one. - Ed
What material did you use for the mold? Where do you purchase it?

the title is missleading since I made the mother of all scrapwood bowls already, before he/you did
