It is always difficult to come up with something new to do with bowls, but with this bowl, you created something new and unique that turned out wonderful. And yes, probably due to the different hardness of the wood and epoxy, you experienced the sanding issues, but unless you were looking for that, nobody would ever know. A very fine bowl that has me wanting to explore trying something similar. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much Stephen! I'm hoping that maybe if I stabilize them with some Cactus Juice, I will be able sand them to the same level since they should be the same hardness. Stay tuned. Have a blessed day! - Ed
Beautiful! The stark contrast of the black resin really magnifies the beauty of the natural grain of the wood! Magnificent! Now do one with white resin and have a pair of show pieces!
Hi Ed, Beautiful, and also in my top 5 of things you have turned. I agree with you about the different hardnesses causing the "Bumps". Take care Ed. Cheers, Huw
I have watched this video several times, each time learning something new. Time to try one myself. The silicon cake mold looks like a great idea for a mold. Thanks for the idea and inspiration!
Thank you Daryl! It also makes a great whoops pan for molds that leak in the pressure pot. It's easier to clean it out of the mold than the bottom of the pressure pot. ha ha - Ed
I believe you are on track about the hardness of the different woods. I have had the same problem in projects of mine where I used multiple kinds of wood. The softer woods wood become lower than the harder woods and no matter how hard I tried to just level them out the hard wood always was raised and I could feel the difference.
Looks good Ed. My wife popped in, saw this, and now wants me to make one. I guess I'll have to get my shop finished and start turning again. Enjoyed as always, Dave.
Thank you Dave! I'd love to see it once you make it. Is your shop in between projects or building it out? My shop seems to be always in transition. I'm hoping to get it semi-finished soon and do a shop tour. - Ed
Looking forward to the shop tour. Short story long is that my father (at 86) always wanted a lathe so we got him one. I started watching turning video's, such as your, so I could help him. About a year later he decided he didn't want it and gave it to me. I ended up building a 10'x12' shed/ shop in my backyard just so I would have a place to set it up. It's amazing how much a $300 lathe can cost you in the long run. LOL. At this time the shell is more or less built and I have power and lighting. Now the fun of building storage and work surfaces for all my tools. Sorry for being so long winded. Have a good night, Dave.
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! I think this shallow bowl/deep platter is my favourite of everything you've made so far. Love your channel keep up the good work. Stay safe💙
Thank you very much Bill! I may try to do it in blue resin next time to see how it looks. I really like the contrast of the black resin though. Always an experiment. Ha ha. Have a blessed day! - Ed

Hi Ed! I think you're being too hard on yourself, this bowl looks great! I believe I saw on your channel another piece you made with wood + black resin, I really like this combination! I never worked with resin myself, so I don't really know how it turns out at the end. Since you asked for project ideas, I have one I'm thinking on doing myself, but it would be awesome to see you making it (if possible, of course): why don't you try making a lamp with wood and resin, turned on the lathe? I think it's a good study of which light to use with a specific combination of resin colours. What do you think?
Thank you Eric and I think you have an excellent idea! I have it written in my idea notebook and put your name beside it for the idea. Have a blessed day! - Ed

Watching this again, there was a chemical reaction between the denatured alcohol and the fruit tree pieces. Did you notice how they turned bright yellow after they were wiped with the alcohol? Well, apparently they were alive and the denatured alcohol killed them....hence their turning yellow.
I did not notice that Morgan. They were pretty dry as I’ve had them a couple of years and it doesn’t take long for wood to dry out here in Phoenix with such low humidity. Thank you for watching! - Ed
