That wood has a perplexing color which comes truly alive with the glossy finish. IMO the metallic finish on the lid was nice too.

Really enjoyed the video and the review/demonstration on the new hollowing tool. I found it interesting how when you stabilized the wood it had that greenish tint to it plus your way is a lot cheaper than the vacuum pot. Loved the shape you ended up with too on both pieces. As I watched you make your design of the outside shape I noticed it looked a lot like a Roman molding shape. If you have a wood workers supply catalog go to the router bits section and look at their shapes maybe you will find one that the out line shape might would make a nice shape on project. Where could use turning tools on lathe to make the shape but on a much larger scale.
Hi, 👋, I know why this came up because I’ve been searching for large hollowing tool systems, I ended up making something very similar to this, out of some scrap tubing and some bits of metal, and to make the tubing more rigid, I machined up some pieces of oak and jammed inside it very tight, and like yours, it works excellent, great piece of kit, what you’ve demonstrating, Will we ever see you back on the workshop floor?, Phil from the moulin France .

Kim, great piece. I also have purchased one of these. It works great in the harder woods (black walnut and hickory). Speed seems to be the trick and keeping a burr on the tool. I do recommend getting a cutter other than the one that comes with it. Becouse the burr quickly goes away in the harder woods. I have successfully hollowed 13" deep with the 3/4" bar. If you want to go deeper you will need a 1" bar machined like the 3/4" one ( too much chatter). Good luck and keep on making shavings.

Something I've found that works really well for me to dye wood Black is India ink.
