Kim what a magnificent and spectacular bowl the grain in it is just awesome and stunningly beautiful. God bless you and your family a thousand fold and keep you safe. I love your work it is just awesome.
Didn’t even now Mesquite was a species of wood. I’ve seen a lot of live edge pieces like this on RUclips but I really appreciate the small tips along the way. I’m so new in the turning world and love all the little shared areas of experience. Keep up the great work. God bless
I sure am!! I think my hands are going to fast for my brain to keep up... I have the same problem with my mouth 🤭🤐😬🤗🤣 Maybe one day they will sync up. lol
Your video reminded me of a Mesquite story. Four or five years ago I was in Maui when a friend was settling his fathers estate. He had a aerial photo from when his father had built his house in 1992. It was in the middle of a five acre field that had grown some crop. There was no vegetation at all. That was then. Now there were palm trees, banana trees, and all kinds of plants growing. It looked like a jungle. There was a fence around the property and as we walked around, he pointed out a mesquite tree that was about a foot across and it was right inn the fence line. He told me that when his dad built the fence, he used whatever he could find for fence posts and used a piece of mesquite. It took root and grew. I had never heard of that. I relayed the story to my dad, who had grown up in Texas, and he said he had seen that happen before. So be careful about getting that bowl too close to water. :-D
Kim, I really enjoy watching your videos. I also like mesquite. I have a bunch of it from a massive tree that I trimmed in my yard. I will send you some pics of a couple that I have turned.
Turned out beautiful! I live in the land of Mesquite out here in Texas 60 miles north of Abilene. It is my favorite wood for its beautiful grain patterns and its famous taste it gives BBQ. I have a few pieces waiting to be turned once I feel I have the experience, which will still be a ways down the turning road. Love watching you create beautiful art from wood and acrylic.
Heeey Kimmie!..My Sister in Christ!..(This is GUS Hall from FB) Wow! That Turned out BEAUTIFULLY! I’ve never Turned Mesquite before. I’m super excited to give it a try! You ever Turn Cherry?....That’s another awesome wood to Turn green!.....See ya in the Facebook Mall! Have A Super Blessed Week!.....Gus
Just gorges love the look of Mesquite when it's turned , i just discovered that home depot sells a big bag of whole mesquite logs , i just bought one n looked up your videos for inspiration , we'll see how it goes , love the video's god bless 👍👍
Mesquite is prolific here in Texas and is a favorite of mine to turn. In fact I have a piece on the lathe that will look very much like yours when I’m finished. You did a great job on this piece.
Kim if you hadn't of said this was Mesquite I would have put money on it being Walnut 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ but its absolutely gorgeous and I love the live edge and the bark so happy it all stayed intact, great job as always 👍👍👍
I love working with mesquite. Glad you good get a piece to work with. If I remember correctly tung oil is considered the traditional finish for mesquite. I mostly make small things with it like pens and chess pieces. I do have a few large pieces I want to do something with.
Nice bowl, Kim!! I have tons on mesquite and desert salt cedar (Tamarix) on property I own in southern New Mexico. Both woods when dry, can be pretty tough to work with and hard on tools. But they do have beautiful color, and ring patterns. Play it safe while turning mesquite. It can be temperamental since it tends to be brittle when dry. Heck, if my land was near you, I would give you an endless supply of both mesquite and salt cedar since they both grow like weeds; particularly in and near the irrigation ditches for pecan orchards and other crop lands.
Thank you! Even though this was considered green, some spots were dryer than others and was "chippy". reminds me of how cedar is when dry. Likes to split is sharp jagged shards. I wouldn't mind turning a forest of green Mesquite :)
Beautiful bowl, you have wonderful revealed the texture of the tree. But you yourself know very well how good your work is and my praise will add little to this knowledge. :-)
Glad you enjoyed turning the wood! Beautiful natural edge bowl from a beautiful lady. 👍🇺🇸
Thank you so much, Cortland!! You have turned me into a Mesquite addict ! lol I appreciate you sending this wood. I had a lot of fun turning it.
