What if i fill this with EPOXY RESIN!?

- This episode on Mind to Made i decided to make an experimental opposite of my Lava bowl using Epoxy Resin. I tried i technique a saw recently on @MoonpieCreations channel but not sure i quite did it justice. It didn't quite pan out the way i envisioned.
Either way i put a lot of hours into this bowl so figured i would see it through to the end.

Mind boggling artistry, skill and patience! It’s incredibly relaxing watching you work your arse off, thanks so much for sharing 😊❤️👌👍
I've seen a lot of bowls turned with wood and resin on RUclips... Always very satisfying to see a lathe... Yours is one of the nicest ! Thanks for the video.
I feel honored thank you 👍
Okay now, THAT is one of the niftiest bowls I have ever seen done on a lathe.
Great project.
Thanks!
You are a true Craftsman and an artist. I love the look in your face when you looked at the Sandpaper and all those small areas to sand it was funny
Thank you sir, glad to give a laugh
It has the look of mountains against a blue sky full of Northern lights. Beautiful
Thank you Susan 😁
Susan Vasquez my exact thought!
With auroras...
That is sooo sharp. It would be great done in flaming red and yellow with a shallow pedestal in the middle to hold a bowl of Salsa. A fabulous bowl for chips and Salsa !!
Thanks Mary. That sounds like a cool idea!
Another possibility is to fill it with glass gems and a votive candle in the middle. I've done a few of these for friends and family. I may have to try a resin one now.
Really beautiful combination: walnut and blue, my favourites. Very very good. If I had the possibility and money, I'll full my home with this stunning works. Thank You for sharing 🤗
Thanks Eliana. I do have a soft spot for the blue and walnut also haha if you haven't noticed yet. 😁
I didn't think I would like the blue and am surprised that I like it a lot. I would enjoy seeing this in warm colors as well.
Yeah i know i have read several comments on other channels frustrated with the amount of blue going around on RUclips but for this particular effect it was necessary. I will definitely mix up the colors in future videos with different techniques.
daba dei daba daei
@@MindToMade blue looks amazing. Seriously. Who cares what a few armchair youtube keyboard warriors think.
@@MindToMade Anyone who studied a minimum of colors matching knows that the best color to match that blue would be a "dark orange", pretty close to the wallnut wood, so do not pay attention to any bla-bla-bla on this. You have done a brilliant job - including in color-matching!
@tgmforum Sorry, but I must disagree with you. Anyone who studied colors matching knows that the best color to match that blue would be a "dark orange", so fairly close to the wallnut wood, That said, he has done a really brilliant job - including in color-matching.
Absolutely georgeous. I'll never question the price of such original works again. 😊
😁
THANK YOU for not ruining your videos with crappy loud obnoxious music!! Good choice of relaxing tunes!! 🙌🏼🙏🏻
Beautiful bowl. Looked like a mountain range and sky too. Loved the background music without drowning out the sounds of your tools. Very comforting music.
Good to know, thanks Shirley
Not only are you a craftsman and an artist this is one of the best filmed and edited videos I have seen on RUclips. I work in the film industry as a director of photography and also editing it was wonderful not to see those awful jump-cuts that are disturbing. What a pleasure to see art in all forms. Excellent work. Very well done!
Thank you very much for the feedback. I do very much enjoy the editing process just as much as the creations 👍
For a minute there, I thought this video was going to give me blue bowls. But, I have to admit, that turned out epicly. This is probably the best spun bowl I have ever seen. Nice design and craftsmanship.
Great to hear man🙌
I always get a tremendous sense of satisfaction when watching wood turning videos and I see the moment a piece becomes round and stops vibrating the lathe.
i feel relief when the piece stops vibrating the lathe 😏 Glad you find the videos enjoyable 👍
When I saw the blue streaky resin being poured in, I thought "That looks really odd." The final effect was breathtaking, like a blue Aurora Australis over Tasmanian mountains (instead of the usual green with purple background).
Thanks 👍
Nice work with added special efforts by you
Wow, so much sanding. Great little cut segment from the sand paper to the "teeth" cuts in the bowl. I love your work, Jake! Keep it up! You're killing it!
Haha it really was! Thanks for your comments as always David 👍
Beautiful work. One suggestion, for sanding the resin, look into getting some Micro Mesh sandpaper. The full set goes from 1200 grit to 12,000 grit and when done gives you an optical finish on the resin. Using the Novus polish as the final step gives it a nearly perfect glass finish.
Thanks Carl. I do use it but not to 12000 though maybe I should. Most sanding is done off camera
It's like something out Game of Thrones, winter is coming bowl.
yesssss 😄
The only thing is that Game of thrones suck and this bowl is awesome
Seen a bunch of turning videos. Probably helped that you are using the same lathe and chuck as I am, but that said... Never seen its equal. The camerawork, editing, background music, the smoothness of your cuts, the concept and completion of the bowl. Bravo sir.
Thanks man
It is truly amazing how this goes from "not bad" to "wow, this looks fantastic" just by applying some oil !
Yeah the oil makes the piece 👌
As with another video I watched, it was most enjoyable to view. As I said then, you don't spend half the video telling us how clever you are. You just get on with it, you're a breath of fresh air. Many thanks, more please.
👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks again John 👌
End product looked great excellent design!
Gotta say, these wood turning videos are some of the most satisfying things for me to watch on RUclips right now.
The music is not too obnoxious in this video, but the sound of the work being done makes it more personable.
Thanks Ivan
@@classyviper1one very few expect anything anymore. What you get is just annoying cheap moronic background jingle everywhere. Fake news 'n' fake music : "Poor stuff for poor people" .
Look around & you'll se we get exactly what we deserve: no borders means hell.🍾🥂🤔😪🤯
That is a very cool design!
The look you gave at the sandpaper... priceless 😂😂😂
That face when you realize how much sanding you’ve just created for yourself...
Excellent videography. No filler ( except epoxy) great concept well delivered in under 11 mins. Pro standard.
Loved the bowl. Subscribed.
Great to hear, Thanks! I know all my viewers time is valuable so i try to consolidate as i can. Glad to have you here 👍
That is absolutely beautiful! I'm just getting into turning, just got a lathe & I loved learning from your techniques.
That is a very beautiful bowl. I myself am a carpenter... but I can only do housing and cabinets. You can make things more beautiful than I could ever make. Thank you for sharing
Thanks! I'm sure if you put your mind to it you could make something just as if not better 👍
I think you found your signature style.
The videography and music are really awesome and the bowl is a work of art keep up the great work.
Thanks very much 😀
Awesome....it's beautiful 👍
Absolutely stunning love the colouring goes really well with the walnut.
Thanks man
Duudee!!! Maaad, maaad montage skills!!! The attention to detail! Wow! Music selection, etc. truly gives the deserved credit to this amazing art of woodworking.
Wow!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You have made some nice things in the past but this ice bowl is the best. Really nice job.
Thanks, I'm trying to improve with each video!
Far exceeded my expectations for how awesome it would be
This was in my recommended and I’m glad I watched it. So gorgeous. I would totally buy this if I saw it.
Thanks Melinda 🙂
That brings up the question: what would you be willing to pay for something like this? What would you consider too expensive?
Great all around! The final product, the camera work, and music made for a wonderful video.
Thanks, i'm glad you enjoyed 😁
Just discovered your channel, and I love it. You obviously put a lot of work into the production and it shows. Awesome. I'll be coming here regularly.
Sometimes i feel the production takes more time then the piece haha but that's OK with me!
Beautiful and I didn't think it was going to look that beautiful, GREAT JOB
Thank you!
This was recommended, I’m not mad. Definitely following from now on! GREAT JOB!
Wow! A treat to watch, and a beautiful result.
Awesome video man! Well done. Loved your expression when faced with the sanding task. I picked up a tip years ago that is really relevant to this day, which is to take a used dryer sheet and rub your face shield and glasses. Dust or any kind of shaving will not stick. Makes life a little simpler. Gotta be a used sheet though since new sheets have too much fabric softener and leads to streaking, which defeats the entire purpose. Don't ask me how I know...
Thanks brother! That's very interesting i will give it a go! I will be able to smell lavender all day 😄
That’s a very unique bowl. I like it. You gave me some ideas for a future turning project. Keep those wood shavings flying!
Awesome. Glad to inspire
You did a fantastic job. I put some acrylic white paint in it. The white resin alone is never enough.
Ken
Darn. Well at least I know for next time 😄 Thanks Ken.
All the way through this I was thinking what a pity he’s made then ruined a nice bowl then suddenly at the end it was wow! Amazing.
Damn, I wish I had that kind of talent . I love watching your videos ...surprisingly relaxing as well.
Very flattering Danny i appreciate that. I love that you enjoy them!
Nice work! I especially appreciate your choice of calming background music in oppose to the nerve wrecking pounding electronic music some other video creators opt to incorporate into their productions. Thank you!
First, let me just thank you for the music. Other RUclipsrs should take note. I will now resume watching what I anticipate will be a great work of art.
Thanks Al
MAGNIFICENT !!! I cant imagine ANYONE not liking this bowl!
Awesome! I cracked up at your expression before you started to sand the saw cuts you made. I just subbed.
😄 glad I could make you smile 👍👍
I bet that would look great with a candle or small light in the center. Well done.
That’s an awesome bowl. Reminds me of treetops and the northern lights. Absolutely love it. New subscriber. 👍
Awesome Dozer welcome on board! 🙌
This is the most satisfying and pleasing epoxy woodworking EVER!!
Thanks Mark 👍
Not sure where you think it went wrong or how it didn’t meet your expectations but that is a beautiful bowl! The edges give it the illusion of mountains and the pearl a wispy snow within a blue sky! I would be super proud to have completed this piece (especially without me blowing it up 😉). Beautiful work sir! Keep it up!!!
I wanted more of a jagged look to the blue and i think the white rounded it off too much. Still not too bad 😏. Thanks for the reassurance 👍
@@MindToMade I think I know where your disquiet is coming from. By using an oil finish, it is very matt on the wood, while the resin remains with a very high degree of sheen. You could try using a sanding sealer and paste wax or even sanding sealer and melamine finish to get the wood just as glossy as the resin?
Good ideas Richard. My main problem was with the cuts. I should of used the white acrylic in the joints so the points were still prevalent when the blue filled the voids. Also the blade was a bit wide so it left a rounding effect at the bottom of some grooves i didn't notice till i turned it thin
It awesome that you plan your projects out and that you’re not wasteful with your materials
This is a really nice bowl
BS"D Beautiful!
Looks like winter sky in the mountains!
Accompanying music was perfect choice as well!
Thanks!
I really enjoyed this video. Loved watching the lathe work and the shavings pealing off. Ice rim design is striking.
Thank you 👍
This was a very satisfying watch. Loved the background music
Thanks Mark 🙂
This bowl is absolutely beautiful good job love to see a master at work
i love this and other wood turners. my thought is:
is this solely for personal experience or do these sell for a price that warrants the amount of time and cost put into them?
i would imagine this would take a full day so would need to sell for 3-400 dollars?
There's a few reasons here.
1. I'm currently operating at a loss while trying to hone my woodworking skills alongside my video production skills to bring quality and entertaining content for my audience, with the hopes that maybe someday I can turn a consistent profit.
2. Once I feel my projects are sale worthy I will sell the pieces as unique works of art. I have no idea on market prices so I don't currently have any idea what this would be worth. Currently because of video production and also the experimental mindset between each piece the builds take much longer.
3. It gets me off my butt (a little) 😉
@@MindToMade .... jayfbrophyjr@gmail.com personally email me. Let's get u out of the blue and into the black.
I agree with jimnz.
You have some amazing talent and I've always had a huge interest in wood work and would love to do lathe work. Probably have to wait till my all my children stop using all my money haha.
But I guess when you start off your constantly learning and honing your skills but it looks like you could sell some of these pieces pretty easily.
Feel positive and think positive.
Thanks for the video from New Zealand
yeah a day
Frankly, this is art, no telling what you could get for it, in the right place. it could ALSO be useful.
That my friend is a beautiful bowl👍👏👏 I have not done any turning, yet. Bowls like this inspire me to start one day soon👍 Thanks for sharing.
Give it a whirl it's good fun 👍👍
Get a nice dark wood and make the resin a mix of pales and greens, could do a "northern lights" look with this!
It almost puts you in a trance watching the piece on the lathe and the strings flying off. Love the vid and the finished piece. Tfs 😀😀 Gail from Lincolnshire uk x
Thanks again Gail. It is very satisfying while cutting to get a nice thick shaving 😀
Stunning. Looks like Northern lights over the mountains.
Thank you 🙂
In Brazil we call it: Aurora Boreal'is. This is a work of art!
Edson Sousa we call it the same in the UK. I was being lazy.
No problem. The mountains also shine.
Absolutely awesome. Fantastic work. 👏👏👏
And the music is perfect. I wouldn't change a thing.
Thanks for the feedback
I don't have any words to describe how gorgeous that turned out.
Thanks Mr Curtis 😁
4:15 I know the feeling and I feel your pain
hah! 😅
Came here to say this
Love the music vibes. Works great with your craft and camera style
That is a beautiful bowl. Can’t tell you how bad I want a lathe now. Who are these 41 people that took the time to dislike?? Who does that??????
Can't please everyone right. Thanks for commenting!
I know how can you not like that thing.
Amazingly beautiful creation, superb work. Thanks for sharing your creative work with us 🙏🏼
"What if I fill this with epoxy resin?" Reminds me of a Mr. Science cartoon.
"Hey, Mr. Science what 'er you doing today?"
"Well, Billy, first we're dumping out this battery acid into this pail.
Then we put this orange into the pail of battery acid."
"And then what happens, Mr. Science?"
"What do you mean, 'And then what happens?' Billy?"
😂
Reminds me of shit clogging up the oceans
Wow. Just wow. That was so awesome. The finished product is beautiful.
Thanks Josh!
beautiful! there's something really cathartic and satisfying about watching this video! thank you.
Thank you 😃
Still watching this, but had to stop to say how much I love the care and artistry put in to the production of this video. Every camera angle (and there are a lot of them) seems very well thought out and the music fits perfectly. Well done! Guess I have a new channel to binge watch. :)
Thanks Mr Tony!
First video I’ve watched on your channel, really like the content! Your RUclips name is also very clever, I really love that part. Going to watch some more of your creations and subscribe!
Thanks John. At first i thought it might of been a little too cheesy but it's grown on me 👍
Mind To Made Welcome! Definitely not cheesy bro, have you seen some of the RUclips names out there lately? 😂 Definitely some weird ones ya know. A lot of them are overly complicated and or way too long. 🤦🏻♂️ Short, sweet, and to the point. Simplicity is key my friend!
Indeed John. I try to keep this mentality when creating my content. People don't wanna hear a bunch of rambling. Give the audience what they came to see 👍
Amazing work. Simple yet so so beatiful!!! Kudos bud. Keep on turning!
Thanks 😁
Very interesting....
I like your style....🙏
Thank you 👍
Piece of Art ! Project Well Done ! The video was expertly completed. 👍👍
Thanks very much 👍
Very nicely done! Beautiful bowl, great camera work too!
Thanks Mr Rod! 👍😁
Mate I love how you shared your thought processes with us 4:07 Lol. Classic! 👍😎 Absolutely love your work.
Well, if you fill that with epoxy resin, I reckon you're going to make something really beautiful... EDIT: Yup, looks awesome!:-)
I think it's beautiful! Love the effect of the cuts and the pearly resin with the blue. Wow!
That’s I call it, ice age bowl.😎🍻
hehe. Thanks for watching 👍
I thought the bowel would look great all wood until I saw the finished piece of art. Beautiful.
Thanks Mr Jerry, i'm glad you enjoyed it
Great video. Excellent camera work and I love the background music. Very calming and not like some of the videos where the music kill any interest in the video. One FYI, I would lose the ring when working with a lathe or any machinery. I almost lost a finger to a metal lathe and would have had the ring not broken.
Thanks for the feedback Mike. I do plan on taking the ring off. 👍
This lath work sounds as dangerous as Bell Ringing. Although I did use a metal lath in the 70s in a hydraulics firm
I was waiting with my finger on the mute button at the start. Thank you! No loud obnoxious background. I really enjoyed watching your video.
Thanks David, good to know 👌
Such a thing of beauty, almost looks edible ! I love it, and the music, thanks so much 😊 🏅 ❤️
Thanks!🙂
That is really different and very very cool I really like that bowl keep doing it I love watching you God bless
Spectacular! You're hilarious too! ❤️
😜 Thanks!
That bowl is gorgeous. I love the colors, magnificent 👍😊 and I laughed at how he rolled his eyes at the prospect of having to sand that whole cut out section. 😂
I can almost smell the wood fragrance through my computer screen.
That’s a work of art ! Great skills .
I'm seeing Aurora Borealis (in blue) over a mountain range - beautiful.
@Nina K. You just inadvertently took me on a wonderful journey - I hit your profile picture, (I was curious about seeing a woman on a woodturning channel - no reason not to, but it's usually just men....who like watching other men work) and saw your 'Corona' subsection.....more curiousity.
Then I found 80s music, (sorry, I never got The Police - don't hold it against me) including Simple Minds and Pink Floyd - both huge parts of my life a long time ago.
So the journey....after Don't You Forget about Me*
Glittering Prize
Love Song
New Gold Dream
I Travel
Someone Somewhere in Summertime
The American
Chelsea Girl
Speed your Love
And I listened to a bit of Ghost Dancing, but I forgot that it irritates me.
Don't You Forget about Me gets a hard time from 'musos' but I kinda get why that and Waterfront were important - I love the early stuff.
I'm a Glasgow (Southside) lad, with a lot of love for Simple Minds, so thanks for inadvertently taking me back nearly 40 years, (in the case of Chelsea Girl it's actually 41 years).
Take care ✌️
@Nina K. A muso would be a music snob.
Not a snob* who only listens to Classical or Opera, but the kind of bore who'd try to belittle you for enjoying something popular.
In this instance there are Simple Minds fans who dislike their successful music - tell them you like 'Don't You Forget about Me' or 'Waterfront' and they'll tell you that they only listen to the "early stuff" circa 1979 - 82, after which they "obviously" went downhill - they'd "sold out", and played stadiums .
Utter nonsense of course - music is there to be enjoyed, and if you happen to enjoy something popular or commercial that's fine - likewise if you enjoy something obscure that's fine too - it's not for me to tell people what they can or cannot enjoy, and we all have guilty pleasures anyway, so I try to behave myself when I come across someone who enjoys K-pop, for instance.
Nothing wrong with attempting to educate people, and there's no doubt that the 60s - 90s were 'better' musically, but there are ways of expressing yourself that without coming across as a snob - a muso.
*Incidentally, the use of the word "snob" at the beginning is kinda clumsy - obviously it's used in a general way to describe people of a certain social class, but I don't subscribe to that idea - I've met some people from that background who are anything but snobbish.
One more thing - if you enjoy this type of content you might enjoy -
Matt Jordan
Pocket 83
The Samurai Carpenter
Pask Makes,
and there's another channel which you might enjoy called 'Shurap' - he's a Ukrainian blacksmith who makes exquisite knives from very unlikely materials - all steel of course, but he's a real artist - doesn't say a word, and I can understand that knives aren't usually seen as beautiful, but if you give him 10 minutes you might be surprised.
It's been really nice talking with you - we are living in very strange times, and these little interactions can be extremely uplifting, so thank you Nina - take care of yourself and your family & stay safe✌️
Oh, and yes you should try to take some inspiration from this - take a look at Pask Makes - he's very good, and his Scrapwood Challenges will give you good for thought - go for it✌️
@Nina K. Oh no, that's a real shame - I've suffered from the disappearing RUclips comments on several occasions - it can be incredibly frustrating, particularly if it's a long or detailed comment.
Your English is wonderful - I'd never have guessed that it wasn't your first language. (although I was aware that you weren't British)
Scandinavians and the Dutch are known to speak excellent English, but I'll admit to not knowing how popular it is in Austria.
Do many Austrians speak English?
I believe that you are the first Austrian I've spoken to on RUclips, at least the first I've known to be Austrian.
You've mentioned being very busy, (and tired) are you in the medical profession?
What is the current situation in Austria?
You've got quite a long border with Northern Italy, although it was centred around Bergamo - at least it was early on, so how well is Austria dealing with the situation?
I'd read an uplifting story just yesterday about an Austrian company, KTM (Pierer AG) - the boss, (CEO?) Stefan Pierer, along with the board have decided to distribute substantial funds back out to the dealer network, so that the dealers, and employees, can cope with the huge loss of business - maybe not a big story, but it's good to hear a positive story right now, as there are a lot of negative stories regarding job losses and financial insecurity - a lot of people are under a lot of pressure.
I don't know how significant an employer KTM is in Austria, but it's very well known internationally, and that will do it's reputation no harm.
Sorry, I went off on a bit of a tangent, but the KTM story just came to mind.
I'll go now as it's late, but it'd be nice to hear back from you, so from Scotland, take care of yourself and stay safe ✌️
Watching these videos makes me wanna go get a lathe and try it out for myself. Beautiful piece
You should man, that's how I started
Well done
Thanks Ken 👍
@@MindToMade Merry Christmas friend.
Thanks you too

I figured I would create more out of the box objects alongside traditional wood turned pieces.
I just wish they didn’t have the music so we could hear the wood shavings
Thanks for the feedback, i hope you enjoyed the project besides the music 👌
agreed. Love the end product though
I liked the music. It gave a good feel to the video/ project
