I recently discovered this old camera at my home and quickly became obsessed with this tiny gem, love the retro metallic look of it, and the shooting performance is good enough for casual photography. Anyway, I really enjoy this video and your reviews on the camera, very clean and straightforward! thank you for this amazing video😆
I don't know if it is just my copy but the flimsy battery door is a major annoyance, however, and a a thing that's keeping it from receiving legend status 😉. But yeah, it truly is a gem...you had it stuffed away at home? Thanks for the nice feedback!
You really have a talent. So impressive. glad to subscribe to the channel early. The creativity that attracts is probably not just in how you geek out on cameras. Without your way of also humbly reminding us all that reality is always in the eye of the beholder. we all need to get through the big things with small steps. well played my sr.
Enjoying it! Cool to hear, got any favourite old digicam brand? Hopefully you're right...I believe there are many gems out there waiting to be rediscovered.
@@ccderik Yeah, my favourite brand is Konica Minolta (I have superzoom Dimage Z3). I also have sony CyberShot DSC-P73, Lumix DMC-LC80, Olympus Camedia C-725, Olympus Camedia C-160.
All those look cool, the LC80 especially! Konica Minolta is retro since they no longer make cameras. I have the Dimage G600 which I plan on doing an episode of. :)
This Pentax is a beautiful camera. Unfortunately, 3 MP is limiting. In experimenting with some cameras, I find that 4 MP+ cameras give noticeably cleaner images, and of course more cropping/resizing flexibility. 6 MP+ images look very nice on a 19"+ computer monitor, while still providing small file sizes.
Hii! Could you please tell me which model is this one?😳 ive been searching for this particular one but there are plenty models: pentax optio S 5, S 6, etc.
What size SD card are you using with this? I'm having an extremely hard time getting a 16gb card working. I keep getting "memory card error" even after formatting the card down to 1gb. I just ordered a 1gb card from amazon. I'm just anxious to take pictures with it lmao
Yeah the battery is indeed so tightly fitted. First press the lock switch down (obviously) and grab the battery by its very edges, sort of a pinch, using your nails. If the battery is too far down one can try and shake the camera body so the battery slides up a little.
Regular ones, which is convenient. But since it's an old camera, it doesn't support SDHC cards so you need old standard SD cards (max. 2 GB). I used a 512 mb card when shooting.
Look for a "Pentax D-LI8 replacement" battery online...when I search here in Sweden I find both one for $17, but also a double-pack for just $14 (brand: Cellonic). 🙂
I have the Pentax Optio S40. found it for a $1.00 LOL! Only takes 1GB SD card. Takes 2 AA batteries. I was surprised it even worked. I'm keeping it as an eyewitness camera in my Truck for stupid people LOL!
😄😁Haha well that's a usage! Nice find. I see the S40 is taller but otherwise quite similar looking. Be aware that the battery life can be abysmal when it only uses 2AA...
Might be that you're in some scene mode that doesn't allow flash. Press down on the 4-way controller and set the camera in P mode, then press the flash button (same as the trash can button to the left of macro/MF)...that should do it! 🙂

I think it's the coolest chanel about old digicams

Hehe thanks Mästaren! That's a profound comment that inspires. 😃
Impressed with the pics from a 3 mp camera. Good job and thanks for the video
.
Thank you!
I like more S45, but better S6.
Haven't tried them, but I see they have some more MP. 😉
I just bought the same one, nice video
Have fun shooting with that little marvel. 📸😉
Thank You!
Thank you for your videos! I collect old digital cameras too, I think it will be more popular in next few years, so it's cool to be ahead of it :)

It's the Optio S, without any number in the model title. Manual: www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/support/man-pdf/optio-s.pdf

You need an old "standard" SD card, it won't read SDHC cards. Should look for something like a 256 or 512 GB card.
Hi i’ve been struggling getting my card to read on the camera and i also can’t find any driver to update my software. I’m using a 128mb sd card.
Seems strange, provided your sd card is a standard 128 mb one. Does it read at all? Sometimes the card is needed to be formatted by the camera.
Hi I was wondering what charger did u use for it
It came with a Pentax D-BC8 charger so that's what I used. 🙂
what does it look like with the flash enabled ?
I didn't really try the flash. You mean the character it gives the images...? In general I think using the flash can add some retro glance to photos.
how do u take the battery out. its so difficult

Does this tiny camera take mini sd cards or the regular sized ones?

@@ccderik I commented earlier but got my answer here! I was using SDHC which is why it wasn't working.
@@trackaholic Hehe, good! We've all had that card capacity annoyance. 😁
