    Hi Erik, would you recommend to get a leica digilux 1? I bought a canon powershot s80 after watching your video and I'm very happy with my purchase, so now I trust you more than anyone on this platform 😁

      Hello there! Very good choice with the S80 - truly a gem and the last of its kind in that Powershot S-series. It means a lot that you trust my recommendations. 😁 You know what? I recently got the Digilux 1! I haven't tested it yet, so I can't recommend it...yet. However, it’s a Leica, has a unique and classic look, and should have some special rendering of images, so the odds are on its side, hehe.

      @@ccderik yes the s80 takes lovely images and I love cloudy white balance with exposure -2/3, sooc pictures already look really good for my purposes. Congrats on your new camera, I hope you'll have fun shooting with it! I'm very curious about color science on digilux 1 compared to s80, I've seen photos with very bright red and blue sky have teal hues, would love to hear your feedback and impressions 😁

       @marinanguyen5055 Seems like a setting for that extra retro vibe, giving a bit of a warmer tone too. 😎 I will see if I will make a winter or summer episode of the Digilux, if the latter case then it will be a while (but worthwhile). Very late autumn grey here at the moment...

    first of all thank you erik for your videos, they are somehow touching (maybe it's the pictures, the music, or the melancholy, or all mixed together). i bought the konica minolta 5D SLR (it's still a fine camera) and i could'nt believe it back in 2005/6 when i read that konica minolta sold its camera branch. i find today manufactures try to invent something new every time but the new features aren't needed most of the time. maybe the sense for the details of the products and their basic function like taking photos is gone.

    • @ccderik
      @ccderik День назад

      Thanks for the nice comment! I'm glad the video resonates with you. I believe the autumn season inspires melancholic strokes in the editing and compositions. 😁 You should cherish your 5D - it's a unique DSLR from the "Konica Minolta window". Regarding the innovations of today...yeah I get what you mean, like mostly software updates, two more megapixels, better video capability or other things not really involving the actual photo-taking experience.

  • @ReparadorAficionado

    So, what we are missing is... those brands that worked hard to earn a place in the market. A market that has changed forever in which the companies are not planning to invest in product development anymore. One famous airplane brand CEO once said "We must stop being an engineering firm and begin to be a business company" or something along those lines. The engineering was let down and the trending has taken it´s place here in the present.

    • @ccderik
      @ccderik День назад

      Very good point! I guess the emergence of the smartphone really killed a lot of innovation in the camera market. With that shift, the focus moved to ease of use, megapixels, and various software goodies, often at the expense of quality and craftsmanship than once defined many brands. Of course, consumer demands have changed but it is sad to see that innovation in traditional cameras has taken a backseat [adds melancholic autumn ambience].

    I still remember my first Digi Cam. A Casio Exilim Card EX-S100 from 2004. 3MP and that camera was super small and thin. They advertised it in comparison to a credit card. To me it looked like some James bond camera because it was so small. The moment I read an article about that camera I knew I was going to get it. I loved the having a small pocket camera on the go. I have so many good memory pictures from this camera, however I was stupid and reduced the file size to save memory. I had no clue back then.. Haha

    How would you characterize this camera in comparison with the Canon G2-6 in terms of speed? I really like the Nikon design and these retro bridge cameras, I would like to have one in my collection, especially since I don't shoot dynamic scenes, only nature. Upd: However, it doesn't matter to me, I am so enchanted by this camera that I have already ordered one for myself. I was aiming to buy a Canon Pro1 for my collection, although its design seems downright stupid to me, and I simply didn't know about the existence of the Nikon 8400. But when I saw it, I realized that it was love! I am a Nikonist and I really like this design. The amazingly wide lens with a gold ring is as pompous as the Pro1 with a L red ring =)

      @@ccderik I just think it is not as good as your Kodak, the C530. The C713 feels super cheap, the display is bad and there is some fish eye effect with the lens. I have a very similar Samsung S750, 7mp CCD, and that makes IMO nicer images. It also works with 2 AA batteries, but it has also a Manual mode where you can adjust shutter speed which could be interesting for experimental fotos.. I'll bet the smartmedia card will cost more than the camera. I bought one for my Olympus E-20N, and it wasn't cheap. But I do so enjoy the E-20N, I am blow away by the contrast, sharpness, and color of the images it creates for a 5mp camera. It's widest aperture is from 2-2.4. Quite an amazing feat for this permanent zoom lens. The camera was crazy expensive as well when it came out, and was considered the digital for pros. I have it powered with a battery pack that I wired with the cells from a laptop battery. Lasts a LONG time.

    • @ccderik
      @ccderik 17 дней назад

      Yeah I know the SmartMedia-cards are rare and very expensive (like a 2 MB one for 260 Swedish kronor on Amazon, lol), but I was lucky one was included when I bought the C-40. That's cool. 😎 You would need a card reader that takes Compact Flash cards. I'm using a Hama "35 in 1" card reader that can read many formats. It uses USB-A to connect to the computer. Depending on your computer's ports, find a USB-A or C-card reader. 🙂

      I recommend getting a USB card reader that can read Compact Flash cards. Which type of USB depends on your computer's ports (USB-A or C). I'm using a Hama "35 in 1" which is very versatile, because it can basically read all types of old memory cards. 🙂

      It is compatible with standard SD cards (not SDHC or SDXC). Those maxed out at 2 GB. However, I'm not 100 that the Pentax can handle the biggest cards, so to be on the safe side look for a 256MB-1GB card.

    I owned this camera back in 2001 and used it for photographing London night life and night club scene. I loved this little camera and it did me really well, the photos were often noisey from shooting in low light but that didnt matter as I could upload them to the web gallery the next day. I wish I still had this camera as a memory of my first digital camera.

      Thanks for sharing that piece of personal digicam history! It must have been amazing to capture London nightlife back in the early digital camera days, even with the noisy photos. Feeling so groundbreaking at the time, I can totally understand why you'd want to keep it as a memory. Have you kept the images in your archive?

    I'd spray some electrical contact cleaner around that mode dial. It will probably work it's way in and may loosen it up as well as help clean the contact surfaces which something this old could benefit from.

    0:48 This is a beautiful photo with nice color, contrast and sharpness. 4:19 That interface is from 2003, but looks like it could have come from 1986 with the LCD panel and chrome-finished buttons. I hate to say it but 2003 (which doesn't seem that long ago) is now 21 years ago (or eons in electronic product technology). It reminds me of your comment at 1:47 about the gap betweeen 1979 and 2000. Where did the time go? The world has actually changed immensely since 2003. I like these old brick-like digital cameras. They provide a nice grip, or can be used for self-defence when loaded with the weight of 4AA batteries. Also, when using them, it reminds me of using the old 35 mm point/shoot cameras: set to auto, compose through the viewfinder, take one picture to conserve memory (not twenty pictures of the same subject). Don't bother reviewing the image in the little LCD because it's too small and low-resolution anyway. Live in the moment; not through the LCD screen. Wait to get home and "develop" the image on the computer.

    • @ccderik
      @ccderik 3 месяца назад

      Thanks for the thorough comment, very much appreciated! Yeah, the interface gives me some 80s hifi/VHS vibes, hehe...it's timelessly retro. Glad you got my message: It feels a bit surreal how time seems to fly by. I know it's a cliché, but it's a really profound feeling I have regarding the 00s, and these digicams have become a symbol of how quickly time passes. Great final advice that captures the land between film and digital photography where these old compacts lie. Take a coffee and review; there will be let downs, there will be surprises, there will hopefully be magic.
