I saw your video in the far east, and recently I just got a Panasonic LC-5 digital camera from the old man at home, which is also 4 million pixels, and the appearance is very classic, I like your photos very much, awesome

Hello to the far east! 😁You're lucky to have that one...indeed classic looking and with the Leica lens. I've read that it is Panasonic's equivalent of Leica's own Digilux 1. Cool that you like the shots, appreciated comments. 🙏

I got this same model of camera a month ago, in very good condition. Everything worked right in these old cameras (well, the batt compartment is a bit hard to close). Minolta was boss when talking about lens and image quality. The AA rechargeable batteries on these cameras do last just fine, absolutely no high energy consumption detected on mine. When you take a picture, it´s a sensation that no modern camera gives to you.

Agree on the battery door. 😁 Yes, a sensation, that's really what it is! They really put effort into making an engaging photo taking experience, coming into the digital world. The metallic, sci-fi autofocus indicator sound and the following shutter sound effect (I added the camera's actual sound on some of the sample shots) make it more fun to shoot.

0:48 This is a beautiful photo with nice color, contrast and sharpness. 4:19 That interface is from 2003, but looks like it could have come from 1986 with the LCD panel and chrome-finished buttons. I hate to say it but 2003 (which doesn't seem that long ago) is now 21 years ago (or eons in electronic product technology). It reminds me of your comment at 1:47 about the gap betweeen 1979 and 2000. Where did the time go? The world has actually changed immensely since 2003. I like these old brick-like digital cameras. They provide a nice grip, or can be used for self-defence when loaded with the weight of 4AA batteries. Also, when using them, it reminds me of using the old 35 mm point/shoot cameras: set to auto, compose through the viewfinder, take one picture to conserve memory (not twenty pictures of the same subject). Don't bother reviewing the image in the little LCD because it's too small and low-resolution anyway. Live in the moment; not through the LCD screen. Wait to get home and "develop" the image on the computer.

Thanks for the thorough comment, very much appreciated! Yeah, the interface gives me some 80s hifi/VHS vibes, hehe...it's timelessly retro. Glad you got my message: It feels a bit surreal how time seems to fly by. I know it's a cliché, but it's a really profound feeling I have regarding the 00s, and these digicams have become a symbol of how quickly time passes. Great final advice that captures the land between film and digital photography where these old compacts lie. Take a coffee and review; there will be let downs, there will be surprises, there will hopefully be magic.

    Retro whispers hum,
    Erik's voice on the channel,
    Time's echoing drum.

    Wow that's a blast from the past....😮
It's incredible how chunky those early digicams were.
I wonder how naby of them are still working?
That looks quite a hi-end model?
My first ever digicam, a sanyo, left stored properly, now fails to function! 😔🤔

The S414 was considered a step up from the basic point-and-shoot cameras, but no high-end camera. Think its list price at release was about 400 USD. Actually, I'm a bit surprised by how many of the vintage digicams still work just fine. But my first digital camera (bought new) couldn't make it - its LCD failed. 🥲

It's amazing to me that the industry at the time felt the need to create the cheapest possible cameras. This one looks much like the Canon G3.

You mean those two or others that followed...? Some similarities between them I can see, but not sooo alike, other than being silver-ish and fat. 😁

@@ccderik yea silver box. From the front it looks like the canon, no Flippy screen. I find the Nikon E8400 and Olympus 7070 to be better handling. So many cameras to try, and so little time.

@@jasongreen2745 But I like the handling way better on the S414 than the early Powershots. 😁 The Nikon 8400 and Olympus 7070 are a bit higher end, too. Would love to find the Olympus in good condition (and cheap, hehe)...
