    My dad runs a small part-time IT business alongside his full-time job. One of his customers gave him a box full of hardware to check if there's anything he could need. There was a Kodak digicam inside this box which he asked me about because I collect cameras. It was an EasyShare DX4530. Pretty similar to this one in the video, although lower spec. I simply love the colours of this Kodak. It's a shame how they fell down completely after being true pioneers in the digital era of photography!

      That 4530 looks extra plasticky and I hope yours has that shiny "Kodak Color Science" sticker on it. 😁

    Love those plasticky Kodak cameras. I have the C530, and it's my choice for sunny days. I recently acquired a Kodak Z650, which also features a Schneider-Kreuznach lens, and I'm quite happy with it. Thanks for helping me discover new plasticky gems on your channel.

      Happy to do so! The Schneider-Kreuznach hype is for real 😁. These Kodaks always feel a bit off though, with some odd feature or lack of feature. You get the impression that Kodak was never completely tuned in, digitally. :) But they obviously have a charm.

    • @philosynth
      @philosynth 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@ccderik I completely agree. The charm of Kodak EasyShare cameras isn't so much about technical quality but rather the unique experience they offer and the nostalgia they evoke with photos processed using the color science of that era. It's more of an emotional connection than a purely rational choice.

      Actually the 7630 has that too! Haha, also classical and jazz. Didn't think of showing that...could be suitable for an add-on episode. @@philosynth

    I'd spray some electrical contact cleaner around that mode dial. It will probably work it's way in and may loosen it up as well as help clean the contact surfaces which something this old could benefit from.

    That’s a really nice camera, and quite surprising for its features that give the user a little more control.
    The color science is lovely as usual and the lens is actually decently sharp.
    I think I might get one of these soon!

    • @ccderik
      @ccderik  3 месяца назад

      Yeah looking back at it the images are surprisingly clean. While it doesn't beat something like Canon's Powershot G6 in terms of quality, it has those special Kodak colors up its sleeve...and a toyishness to it which makes it fun. 😁

    I have the Kodak c530! Love the ccd sensor. Kodak in that time period made great if not maybe cheap cameras, but love the images they produce been looking at the larger MP ones, 6.1-8.1 or higher? Just great cameras for a getting some great colours! Thanks for sharing!

    • @ccderik
      @ccderik  11 месяцев назад

      You're welcome! The C530 is special indeed, with its "instant click" style and slick design. Are you using it with rechargeables? I would go for anything that still has a CCD and a cool form factor, like the Z950 for example. 😁😁 However, if you want to keep the more genuine vintage compact feeling, go for less MP. Also, I guess the early sensors have more quirks when it comes to the image quality that can make them unique.

    I owned a DX7630 for several years before it was stolen. On a flight to see my brother in Seattle, I sent my bag a day earlier and "porch pirates" stole it from where the delivery man left it on the porch. The camera was in the bag. But the joke is on the porch pirates - I'm a large man - so they probably looked very silly in my farmer clothes. Recently I bought another DX7630, because I liked the images and vibrant colors the camera captured. Also, the camera offers full manual control - for $25 used. So many "digicam" promoters are spending $150-$200 for an older CCD camera with manual controls. Us farmers are thriftier than that.

    • @ccderik
      @ccderik  10 месяцев назад +1

      That was a bad Kodak moment but a fun digicam story to share, thanks! Must be nice to see the camera again, even though it's not your "original". Haven't thought about the full manual control offering in regards to price, but you're right. I bought mine for a little bit more, $30, but in very good condition so I'm happy with this plasticky funbox. 😉

      @@ccderik I am happy to re-discover them. Photography was so much fun when I was using an Olympus OM-1 and developing my own B&W film. Then I put it away and began using my cell phone which is no fun at all. It's also helped me get back into an exercise routine; walking for the sake of exercise has never appealed to me - but walking with an eye for taking pictures is something I look forward to. I love your sense of humor, Erik. I can't wait for the youngsters to ditch their cell phones for tin cans and string! The RUclips reviews will be glorious! ;^)

    • @ccderik
      @ccderik  10 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah the camera definitely adds to the "regular walk" and also makes you see and discover your surroundings! I noticed it can turn your walks into very long ones, hehe. It's sad to see the compact camera market vanish because of the cell phone. Obviously mobile phones take images of high technical quality these days but they are just not that fun to shoot with (especially when it is cold outside...). When I'm using a camera that's not a phone, with physical buttons, viewfinder and so on I feel more dedicated to the craft and inspired. It would be so cool to see a little revival of the compact camera market, with new experimental designs like the ones from the early 00s.

    Great video, I had never seen this model before. Do you know if there are other models with the same sensor and the same "Color Science Chip"???

    • @ccderik
      @ccderik  10 месяцев назад +1

      I don't know, but you often see that color science sticker on the front of these mid 00s Kodaks, like the C530 I tested last year (but the sensor is not the same, it's smaller). You could check out some Kodak camera directory to get ideas on which models to look for. I recommend the classic pbase.com for example. 🙂

    Hello
    can you advise me which is better the Sony DSC-H2 or the Kodak EasyShare DX7630, even though their price is $25?

    • @ccderik
      @ccderik  9 месяцев назад

      I haven't tried the Sony but it might be better, with its Carl Zeiss optics, especially if you need more reach (has 12 X optical zoom). It got the "Highly recommended" mark on DPReview back in the day. I say go Sony! It is bigger though, so if you want a more pocketable camera, go Kodak. 🙂🙂

    Where can you usually buy the batteries for these cameras?
    I have the DX7440 right now

    • @ccderik
      @ccderik  10 месяцев назад

      Online battery stores or Ebay, I recommend. Some tips: First, to find the battery I usually google "camera model name"+battery (replacement) to see my options. Which exact battery the camera uses is most often written in the camera specs sheet, which can be found on sites like DPReview or Manualslib.com, so double-check with the info given there, if possible. In the case of DX7440, I found its battery (KLIC-5001) at "Batteriexperten" and Amazon here in Sweden.

    • @ccderik
      @ccderik  10 месяцев назад +1

      P on most of the shots, but also the landscape scene mode on a few landscape shots. I used the high color mode, as mentioned in the sample sequence, and usually some minus in exposure compensation (the common trick to get better colors in bright daylight). You can try experimenting with the different exposure metering modes too (found in the menu, e.g. center-spot) depending on the light conditions. Cool to hear that you got this Kodak! 📸🙂

      Yeah didn't touch it. I just checked and all of them are at ISO 100. I shot all samples in good daylight.🌤Once I tried the camera in the dark evening, but it was terrible, so low light is not so recommended. 😁@@nuruleliana8681

      You need a regular (old) SD card, usually they don't go above 1 GB, so I recommend trying to find a 256 or 512 MB one. 😁
