- In this video I rebuild the Vauxhall Signum front brake caliper, fit new pads, fit the refurbished shock absorber and a new disc rotor. I also bleed the brakes with my new Sealey automatic brake bleeder. The car has stood for 3 months and the seats are covered in mould. I'll sort that out at a later date.

Great job Martin 👍🏼
White vinegar 50/50 mix with hot water in a spray bottle will get rid of that spot mould in no time. Then 50/50 mix fabric softener & water to make it smell great again 👌🏼 sure cars will start to mould in a few weeks for god sake with our climate 😂
Yes, I saw the white vinegar trick so will give it a go
That's what I like, nice simple solutions to the problems we meet without having to buy expensive dubious products that only mask the problems.
Great video Martin. Another great demonstration of how the job should be done properly. Good for another 100,000 miles lol.
Cheers, Jeff.
Cheers Jeff, nice refitting clean parts lol
Cracking job. Would do the young fitters that don't understand how the things they're replacing work to watch you. Great video
Thanks 👍
My 08 vectra is damp all the time but carpets are dry. never had a car so bad for mould and damp. Glad its not just me Martin.
That's what we have been waiting for Martin , more car repair videos , top job you make it look easy .
Best caliper refurb I have seen on youtube. Great job Martin. Perfect demonstration and step by step explanation.
Thanks John
Nice job....I love your attention to cleanliness whilst on the workbench.....!
Thank you Martin I always look forward to your videos I am from South Africa
Great to see someone who goes the extra mile and does things like rebuilding calipers etc, good as new and really satisfying, I'm sure.
Lovely Jubbly.
Yes, it was a pleasure rebuilding them to that standard Alan.
lubicate the pins then bung them in love the tech terms keep the vids coming love them all
Haha, I say what I see lol
Love the way the break calipers have turned out
Yes, they turned out well
Good job on the caliper rebuild Martin 👍
I’ve rebuilt callipers before so much more satisfying than just buying new or 2nd hand ones. I do like the powder coating on these it’s almost worth buying the kit just for this. All the best. Steve.
Yes Steve, I built b my own powdercoating oven as well
retrorestore Yes I don’t always comment (I know you get 100s) but I do watch every one of your videos.
Great job Martin that mould is horrible have just done two valets on two fiesta that was worse than that this week nightmare to clean best cleaner i use is autosmart g101 awsome stuff use on anything upholstery dashboard it's like a magnet to dirt 👍
Nice job as always Martin. Keep those videos coming, love watching you and Sharon. Take it easy mate👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks Chris
Very nicely done ! Thanks Martin !
Another brilliant video power coating is looking fantastic great job Martin keep them coming 👍
Thanks Norm
Nice video!!! Might need this for my Vectra's rear calipers soon! Cheers
Back on the road again brilliant tidy job.
Absolutely brilliant video on the brake caliper rebuild. It's so hard to find a video that shows what's involved in such detail. Well done, really useful. Can't believe the mould you got there, now that's a nasty job fixing that.
I'll sort it Terry.
Top job Martin. :) I recommend leaving the windows open a few mm to allow the air to circulate and remove the damp. I have to do that with my old Merc sitting on the drive due to the boot leaking, as they all do.
I;ll sort it soon bud,
A job well done Martin 🔧🔧👍
Great job on getting that car up and running again Martin.
Cheers Dave
Nice quality job on the refurbished caliper and reassemble martin a quick valet on the interior and will be good as new keep up the good work 👍👍👍👍👍
Yes, it will clean up Alan.
nicely done Martin..excellent.
Hello Martin,
again a very good quality video and, as always, explained well and in detail. You are a great youtouber, that must be said!
Regards Bernd
Thanks Bernd, that's kind of you.
Great result from a lovely job. Thanks :)
Martin that was another great video thanks you for using your time to make
Thanks bud
Cheers Martin. My goodness do take care with that mould. You really don’t want to breathe that in. Very bad.
Yes Val, I'll be wearing a respirator when I do it.
Nice job you done there Martin
another top job martin, keep um coming.....
Thanks Darren
Hi Martin, nice job, like the bleeding gadget and also like the music when you're on time-lapse.
Thanks Dave
Iv had that problem with mold after a project ran on abit longer then I first thought it. I did the white vinegar and water as suggested earlier in the comments. After some scrubbing it came out great and never returned. 👍
Yes, i'm going to give it go this weekend.
Hi Martin done a great job there mate them self bleeders are a life saver must get one
Yes, makes life so much easier.
Makes me want to go out and do mines , but being it’s 9 pm and blowing a Gail , with horizontal rain , will leave it . Another brilliant video gain Martin 👍
Haha, never mind, always tomorrow lol
Martin is good at fixing Vauxhalls.
cracking job martin
Cheers Paul
top job martin
We have same age but learn every time of your knowledge ;)
Great job
Got to luv the coper slip lol Good Job Martin there is not many guys that rebuild cailpers now. Nice job on the cailper. i like yor break bleeder kit i toyed with the idea of getting the seally one but i went for a cheaper version in the end still does the same job lol. one man bleeding kit most these new motors are all the same you have to presure bleed them to get a good pedel. moldy car lol you need a few damp pots in her lol. i can smell it from here Martin lol
Yes Ali, The powder coating really restores them and i'll sort the mould out too in another video.
Great video Martin
Good vid on calliper rebuild, 1 thing I hate about my Vectra is bloody condensation on the inside of the screen, seems to be common on these but not fun in the winter when there’s just as much frost on the inside as there is on the outside 😂
Nice job!
Job done👍
I bet you wish you where done with that car but it’s worth saving money where and if you can. Thanks for the brilliant content and keep up the awesome work
It gives me something to make videos on bud so I'm happy.
Great vid Martin . Again the copper came to the rescue . No more euro car parts bunch of muppets.
Yes Pete, Your Copper grease is still being used lol
Another great video again Martin. Nice car for a 06 plate. Love your videos keep them coming I really enjoy them. Maybe next video a valeting video 😂 only joking budy.
Yes, I will be doing that Neil.
good job martin gary from crewe
Cleaning videos with Martin 😂
Hello Martin.
I've seen cheese with less mould lmao, great video Martin. 👍👍.
Hello Sharon
Haha, I was waiting for someone to say that Snobby and it had to be you lol
Send the green Bentley fund for Snobby .
@@petefroud5308 Only green mould Pete
Well done.
Have you ever put a caliper on upside down, and no matter what, you couldn’t bleed it?
Time for a detailing video.
Haha no Jim, Never done that lol.
Caliper looks great, i will let u know when ive got a week off in the summer then i will come yours so u can do my 4 calipers?😉🤣
Haha, you'll be lucky lol
Great repair very satisfying to see all the new parts , shocking how much mould after only a few months just as bad as the Vauxhall corsa when they sit don’t know if it’s a ventilation issue or what with some Vauxhall’s maybe someone can explain in the know it all section below lol
yes, its very damp in there, i'll sort it though.
That car would probably run on bio, I make my own biodiesel and run my Zafira 2004 on it. I would help you do a video on it if you were interested.
Wow Martin, that mold is not a good thing. Be sure you don't breathe any of that into your lungs. I would work on removing that ASAP. However, the powder coated caliper work looks very nice. When I do things like that, I get carried away and have to make everything look like new. Thumbs Up for sure!
Good one mate.. stops and goes just how it should.. yuck that will need a good clean.. but like you say it's all service so will wash off.. hope your doing good mate..
Cheers Mick, i'll be on the mould very soon.
You will have to invest in an Ozone Machine for getting rid of all bacteria and smells from cars and rooms in your home, quality piece of equiptment
Hey Martin, very nice job ! I would have loved to see what kind of grease you used to mount the discs and where you ordered your parts.
The grease was Copperslip and I got the parts fro my local car factors called Linco.
Careful with that mould. You can clean it off, but unless you kill it. It will just come back. Steam cleaner will kill it off.
Yes, i'm looking into it
Is it a disaster if I slightly damage the Calliper Piston Dust Seal whilst getting it back on? I used a flat screwdriver to push it on and have cut the seal slightly. Thanks.
You could try a dab of super glue. Make sure its free from grease or oil first.
Nice video. Quick question please if you don't mind. I have a 2004 Zafira and the handbrake Caliper lever which is bolted to the back of the rear caliper was sticking so I've just tried working the nut with a spanner on the bolt which attaches the lever to the caliper. Unfortunately I think I may have been heavy handed as the bolt (may be called the caliper guide bolt, or actuator pin) has snapped just where the nut meets the caliper handbrake lever. My question is, can the actuator pin be replaced or does it require a whole new caliper?
Don't know Gary, sorry.
@@retrorestore no worries mate, thanks anyway.
Hi Martin been watching a lot of your videos lately, and I've decided to dig my electrostatic magic out of the cupboard that's never been used since I bought it 4 year ago. Just wondering how long your left the calipers in the oven for? Also keep up the good work. 👍
I left them in for about 20 minutes bud once they started to flow.
Thank you, its good to find someone in the UK on you tube doing the things I like doing (Tinkering). 👍
Did the seal have a direction? Been caught out before with seals that have a slight taper and only seal correctly one way round.
Not these ones Eddie
Hi martin, where did you get your rebuild kit from? I wouldn't mind stocking up for my Peugeot 306. the caliper's are expensive to buy. Also where did you get your brake bleeder? that's very handy!
The rebuild kit was from Ebay made by Big Red and the Bleeder was from Amazon made by Sealey
Happy days was there any mould in the boot and what will u use to get it off
I'm still looking into it but white vinegar is the favorite.
👍
And now, introducing, the Martin of all trades……
Lovely job sir 😎
Not sure about the bacteria gobbin is it like Corona virus ??
I'll get it sorted.
🔧👍
Hey Mart i changed my rear calipers on my Ford Transit . The pistons we're different to yours they had grooves to put your wind back tool, to retract the pistons, is thete any reason why the pistons are different ? cheers Roehampton Geezer !
They are different as he was doing front calipers ie footbrake only. Your calipers are wound in as they also do the handbrake on your transit 👍
@@Alanw74 cheers guv
Are these the same as whats used in the saabs martin
I don't know Dean, Sorry.
@@retrorestore lol dont be sorry they just look to be a similar setup is all
Nice job Martin. Shouldnt have road tested it tho really. Took a risk there
Life is one big risk Alan.
Haha very true my friend. Enjoying the videos 👍
Nice job on the caliper overall though i was a bit surprised you didn't appear to torque up or mention torquing up the suspension bolts up with a torque wrench which is always a good idea..more so on suspension components. The interior clean up and de-mold might make a good video!?
Don't be surprised, I'm not a Haynes manual. This isn't a How To, its you watching me do a job on my car. There will always be someone who will quote torque settings but I don't feel the need to spout every bit of H&S or specification out there. If anyone else is doing this (or any other job) they are doing so at their own risk. If this job was being done in a Garage, I can guarantee, a torque wrench is not used in most cases on a job like this. I know, i've seen it. There will always be something to pull up in a video. It's keeps the keyboard warriors happy.
Cant get the dust boot on my VXR calipers to save my life. One side on, other side comes off, back and forth.
Sorry to bother you, is it similar brake on vectra b restyling?
Not sure bud. Same as the Vectra C though
@@retrorestore Thanks to your reply
Mustie 1 uses a very weak bleach solution for getting rid of mould
Not on seats bud, White vinegar is the way to go.
Great video Martin. Do you have an instagram which i can follow you on at all?
Yes bud, there's a link on my channel banner.
You gonna sell me that mower yet Martin 😅 I wanna fix it up ready for spring, ain’t got a clue how but I want it
What mower Tom ?
retrorestore that honda from the last episode.
@@BigTom1289 Ahh, its not mine Tom, Its Gary's.
are you going to be doing any more cooking videos again😅
Maybe on Butlers Empire Channel
bit of an old school skill doing your own rebuild . are people just lazy theses days
I'm lucky to have the equipment to refurbish them Simon I guess.
Bet you wish you didn't start on that car all these months later
virtually pornographic 😅😅
