    HELLO EVERYONE!!!
Here I’m cooking an all time favorite beef liver and onions. I remember my Mother making this dish as a child over 50 years ago. This dish can be served alone or with mashed potatoes or rice and a vegetable. Hope you enjoy my recipe. Many Blessings to you and your family. Love y’all❤️
    Gravy Recipe:
1 or 2 Med. Onions (sliced)
    1/4 Cup All Purpose Flour
    1/4 Cup of Cooking Oil
1 1/2 to 2 Cups of Water or Chicken Broth
Salt & Black Pepper to taste
    Tip:
Remember to taste your gravy before adding salt when using chicken broth. Most Chicken broths are loaded with salt. I prefer using water.

Hi I am Blanche aka Bea. I use calf liver and buttermilk in my gravy like my grandmama showed me on her wood stove. I became a chief at Washington Navy Yard at age 23. But we used beef liver and cooking for 200 people was a joy. I won a blue ribbon when Steny Hoyer had be to work at a buffet dinner at age 27 1973. So now for my husband I do calf liver, mashed potatoes , broccoli, stewed tomato ,corn and old fashion country biscuits . I let my liver simmer in some gravy for 3 minutes and top with the onions . I use 2tbs unsalted butter and 2tbs olive oil for my onions and my gravy is delightful . Love your video . Ma Bea Allen 🖐🏾👍🏾

There is a Mexican variation of this my mother used to make. Instead of rice or potatoes she fried roughly chopped tortillas in the "dirty"/used already oil so that the flavor of the liver would transfer to the tortillas. It was delicious but she didn't know about tenderizing the meat first (she used small pieces instead) which is definitely an improvement! The gravy looks awesome too. Ours didn't have gravy just the flavors from the oil. Good times!

Just like my momma used to make and how I cook liver and onions. But, hey, I am from the south and this is how it’s done here. However, I do not use water in my gravy. At my house, it’s always milk gravy. My husband loves liver and onions smothered in gravy with a healthy side of mashed potatoes and skillet fried cabbage. YUM, YUM!

The more onions the better! Looks good, Ms. Brenda. I haven't had liver (besides chicken livers) and onions since I was a child. They used to tell us we needed to eat liver weekly for the iron, then they told us it was too high in cholesterol. All things in moderation, I say.

I add 2 chicken bouillon cubes or two teaspoons of bouillon to the boiling water along with butter before adding minute rice. Gives rice a nice flavor that compliments any dish.

Ms Brenda Dee: I looked at this video and I got hungry, I love liver and onions with the gravy is a plus. Ok, I went to Smart and Final and bought chicken livers for my SERVICE DOGGIE, well I took them cleaned them and seasoned with my choices, fried them in Avocado oil (no onion for my babe makes anemic), ok got them fried, and all the crispies in the pan made the gravy only with chicken broth, when finished I stole a couple pieces from her batch with the gravy and OMG, what flavor. When I fed her she inhaled it... I don't feed my pets dog food because it is nothing but "SCRAP". For pepper I used white pepper, it has a little bit kick to it I noticed. This was so easy and very tasty. If I am not in a hurry I always make my own gravy. Thank you so much and my Dee Dee thanks you for the great recipe.. Keep them coming..

  • @yoga8818

Thank you. I was just wondering at what heat level you cooked the liver, but you finally said medium high. I washed my liver in baking soda water first, then in salt water, rinsed and one more wash in both + final rinse. I very generously sprinkled with garlic powder, black pepper and garlic powder. Grated fresh garlic would have been better but I was out of it. After seasoning, I put it in a zip lock and pounded both sides, put back in fridge x4 hours…just because of my time constraints- and then fried it following this video, except using coconut flour, because that’s the flour I had on hand, and red onion and fresh parsley. I sautéed the onion alone first to almost the color I like, then sort of flash-fried the parsley in with it. It’s delicious. Thank you!

@@michelledavis4118 Ms. Brenda reserved the oil she fried the liver and onions in, and used it when she made the gravy. There's alot of flavor in that reserved oil... Yum!
I would just pour out excess oil from the pan that I fried my liver in partly because I'm too lazy to take that extra step, plus, I always liked the bits and pieces left behind after frying and add to the gravy. I would also break up a piece of the liver and cook it in the gravy, making it alittle "lumpy".
Oh boy, Ms. Brenda, thank you for great dish, and for bringing back fond memories!

I never tenderize my liver and it comes out tender everytime. I flour my liver before frying (helps with the gravy).
Tip: Never buy too thick and brown no more than 3 minutes on each side with med heat (almost raw in middle with no blood) before draining oil and smothering with gravy mixture. I mix 1and 1/2 cups of water and 1 packet of sazon mix and 1 pack of Lipton onion soup mix together well and pour over drained liver, cover tightly and simmer on low heat for 10- 15 minutes. Yours looks great!

Made liver for years raised in Britain and my Mum made it this way.......one skillet while the liver and onions are cooking together I do add broth instead of making it from oil....it thickens from the flour on the liver ....don’t cook it too long slightly pink in the middle and very tender....

I haven’t had liver, onions, and gravy in a few years. My children are adults now but I remember when they were little I used to cook liver for them and they would ask “ what kind of meat is this?” I would tell them it was steak lol. That worked until one day I served it and my daughter said “this ain’t steak it’s liver!” That was the end of that 😂. I like mine with a lot of onions and I put my liver in the gravy and let it simmer a little while until it’s nice and tender.

I kinda did the same thing with chicken livers .my kids asked what I was fixing and I told them chicken nuggets.they ate them all and came back looking for more.lolI bought a mess of fresh pork liver at a little Amish market along Walkers creek ,and I fixed them some liver an onions and they loved it.my wifes and my daughters Iron is both low ,and I told them to eat some liver,my Grand Dad usta cook liver and onions for me as a boy ,and at Hog killing time each fall I would always take him all the Hog livers .I would help scrape several Hogs and almost all the folks would give me all the livers, calf liver is good but Hog liver is the best I think .I saw this and I could close my eyes and smell that liver cooking.thanks for the video.

Another quick rice option is the
Success boil in bag rice. It's like Uncle Ben's. I use it a lot, especially when I'm in a hurry. Just drop a bag or 2 in boiling water and it's done in about 8 minutes. Drain it, cut the bag open, dump it in a bowl and add butter, salt & pepper. No sticky rice pan to clean .
    And, it tastes great.
    Thank you Ms Brenda🤗

Very nice Brenda. I can see you are a good cook!! I live in Melbourne, Australia & here we remove the thin membrane or skin on the liver by soaking it in Vinegar & Salt for a few hours or over night. That also removes any impurities & deals with any bacteria. We then pat it dry, flour it and fry it as you do. We also fry the onions. We serve the Liver on the plate, cover with some onions and gravy and top with crispy fried bacon. Then usually served with creamy mashed potato, Peas and any other vegetable you like. So we call it, Lambs Fry & Bacon. I guess originally they used Lambs liver. We use beef liver and still call it Lambs Fry & Bacon. This is basically the English way of doing it too. Thought i'd share that with you. Loved your video! Keep up the good cooking!

I don't use a lot of oil the liver will leave it's crum which cooks well with the onions and makes a darker gravy. I love fresh cracked pepper on everything. Black salt is delicious try it.
