I could not figure out my washer problem until I found this video. The drill bit worked, and my washer is running again. The wife had already picked out a new one, so this video saved us $500 plus dollars!😁
I’m currently dealing with an issue, says 23 fault code lid lock critical, I bought a new lid lock harness and switch still same code. It will fill then cut out. I did my tests, it will agitate, it will drain , would the recirculating pump be a cause of this
After watching like 20 videos and replacing the speed sensor with no results I found this video. My issue was the washer agitating, draining but not spinning. It would just shut off at the spinning part of the wash cycle. After following your instructions I was able to clear the tube and reassemble and it worked! Thank you for the help. Saved me from an expensive repair bill or even worse having to buy a new one.
Another satisfied customer. My machine was not draining properly after we moved into a new home. Stuck a tiny little allen wrench into this hole and felt it poke something out of the way. Now I'm back in business. Thanks Ben! 😃
Great video! I looked this up when I was in a pinch with no maintenance experience! I did everything you said and it’s fixed! So proud of myself for fixing it and you did a great job explaining everything.
Great video. I had codes 16 & 18 on my GTW460. I cleaned the pressure port on the tub, and now it runs through the full cycles again. Thank you for making the time to help all of us.
Thanks for the great video! I did the procedure as you demonstrated and the washer has worked perfectly ever since! Everyone is very happy that the washer works like it's supposed to!!
Thanks, I have the same washer and it stopped working. Thanks to your videos I got all the information I needed to fix my washer and save a bunch of money!
You are a hero! Mine was a different model with a much easier to access connector. It had a little 2" water collection part where the tube attached to. The place where the tube connects was clear, but apparently the part on the inside was clogged. After blowing some air through there, it cleared and we are back in business! The original symptom was that it wouldn't spin! Then it started going in drain only mode. So not obvious! Anyway, thanks a million! Saved me buying a new washer this weekend!
This was my exact problem, He knows what he is talking about Repaired mine from top long arms very helpful .I would rate this video a 10 hose must be suug cut off 1/4 inch off hose to make snug as necessary.
My GE top load washer was doing the same thing. On a any load size, It would dispense some water and just stop, nothing. I saw your video and followed you instructions. The only thing I did different was, I blow into the tube from the top while still attached to the bottom and since I still had water in the tank I could see the air bubbles come out. So, maybe that cleared. I put everything back together and the washer machine worked. 🤔 So thank you for your video!
I can't wait to try this! I was about to call a repair man before looking up videos. My washer isn't draining, even if i put it on multiple spin cycles. I hope this helps! Either way, now I know how to take everything apart & where to find the pump. Thank you!
Hey Ben! Great video! As an appliance technician myself I’m looking to make videos and content for diy’ers and techs to use. This is an excellent explained and shot video. Keep it up 👍🏼
I did this procedure on my identical GE washer and even though I felt no resistance when inserting the drill into the pressure port the washer works just like new now after reassembly. Thanks!
This trick worked exactly as advertised. The top down method was super tight. But coming up from the drain to ream the tube with the drill bit was fantastic.
I have a fairly new washer I’ve just got a old one I’m wandering if I can use the pump to make a shower with it as I’m living off grid and like to think about what I can use over maybe for other things 👍love ur Chanel very interesting 🧐
Yes! Absolutely! How you use it will vary based on the voltage of the pump, but they'll absolutely work to move water in any other way you can think of, if hooked up right.
You are the MAN. I've been trying to find instructions on this issue for forever!! Thank you SO much for making this. This video is incredibly well made ... Great video and super succinct. Awesome job!! Also - love the outfit!!
I brought that same washer 10 months ago. After 3 months the lid lock would lock and unlock over and over. After it sat for a week it started working again. But when ever it would be humid it would do the same thing. I would have to dry it with a fan. NOW it’s doing this. I think it has multiple manufacturers defects !!!
Ehh. brand new GE from Wayfair and it was not spinning out enough water. I couldnt get a 1/8 inch drill bit to twist in there, but I got a slightly smaller precision flathead that snugly fit the opening, and there was an obstruction as you describe. I got a smaller-than-1/8 drill bit and used it as a reamer, filing the edges at the end of that channel. I had a 1/8 inch end mill bit with which I was able to ream the passage out, but the business end of that wasn't long enough to reach the flashing area. Still can't get the 1/8 bit in and twist it freely but I knocked the obstruction out in any case. We will see if that does it! A note: If you are unsure how far back you can go, get a smaller something that will fit past the blockage and you can "feel" where the wall of the tub is. UPDATE: It didnt help, the clothes are still far too wet, too much water left in there. SMH. Not sure whats up with this one.
Awful washer. The suspension went bad less than two years after I got it. My old Kenmore washer lasted me years before it had any problems. Thanks for the video.
I have a basic GE washer that is about 12yrs old. It recently stopped agitating and spinning with a load and smells like something is burning. The belt is good on it and I tried the reset motor code process. Technician was going to come out today to look at it. He called before to get more info. He told me most likely motor or transmission. He said those are known to develop small oil leaks, which cause belt slip. Told me I was better off to get new washer, since it would cost so much to fix. What are your thoughts on this?
I have this card t washer. I’ve added a new belt, new drain pump, and done what you suggested in this video. I still have the same issue. It will wash and spin and gets up to speed but It seems like it might not be spinning long enough. The clothes are still wet after spinning. Not wringing wet but wetter than they should be. Could it possible be lid lock? I’ve made sure level and clothes are spread and Balanced all that good stuff. Again it gets up to spinning fast but just seems like it should spin at that speed for a longer time. Washer is only three years old. 🤦🏼♂️. Our last one was 17 years old.
Mine does the same thing. It will start to spin and picks up speed and then suddenly stops as if someone stopped the spin cycle. Then the spin light starts blinking
to add to the control board being burnt, i had a $300 lesson in drain pumps that went bad blowing out the board. I now replace the pump with any control board showing signs of self-immolation.
Yep, I've had that happen on a Whirlpool a time or two. However, we do board repair and were able to trace the R050 that got burnt due to a bad pump. We decided to try direct-wiring the pump to test it and the explosion on that one was impressive.
Happened to me too on a cabrio , go figure 😂 That was my lesson on drain pumps taking out control boards even if they test with continuity it doesn’t mean it’s good!
Mine makes a grinding noise and all the grease has dumped out of the transmission. Has the same symptoms & does5 spin out the clothes. Appliance repair store said the transmission had failed & said it was a common issue on these. I actually have a second one with the exact same symptoms and problem but has oil all over the engine and transmission belt cover. Not spinning out all the clothes. Wondering if it could be this or the transmission. Going to try your solution first I guess. I assume you're not having the grinding noises?
Had intermittent drainage issues where it sometimes wouldn't drain now it seems like the pump wont run at all so I think I'll check the pump first then that hose line. But man is it aggravating how difficult it is to troubleshoot or access the washer for repair. I swear they made it as difficult as possible. My old washer had multiple removable panels this seems to have none. Also there were zero error codes or trouble shooting help, just a washer full of water. Frankly after this experience I never want to buy a GE appliance again but no idea if there are even any alternatives any more.
You ever figure it out? I’m thinking the pumps going out on mine. Won’t drain after rinse to spin. Last time I literally just took off the guard to the belt and put it back on and it started working.

Please help me out. I have the same washer and it'll wash the clothes just fine. However it won't drain the water or spin the clothes dry. It just shuts off after the wash cycle like it's done but it's still filled with water...

So this definitely helped my washer not spinning the clothes dry issue. However, i have a new issue... After doing the drill bit and blowing the gunk out of the hose and reconnecting it all. The washer isn't sensing to stop at the right level now and just fills all the way to the brim and enters flood mode which in turn doesnt initiate the wash cycle. Any ideas ?
Mine did that as well all on it's own. First flooding only in the x-lg mode then it didn't matter what size I put it on, I had to shut off the H20 after every fill, turn on for every rinse then turn off again, then it stopped flooding for a year. So many other problems with this washer...UGH!
So I have a Maytag ensignia washer not completely super old but at least 10 years old maybe a bit more and it's spinning. But not good. It's leaving clothes wet enough that I can still ring water out... We got it from my son's grandpa and it didn't spin the first couple times. Then it randomly started spinning. It goes fast. But it also makes a clicking noise under or in the agitator sometimes while spinning.. he bought it new from Sears, and it did this back then too. Any idea what this could be?
I was hopeful.... tried this fix, but still no fast spin. I have replaced suspension rods, but still get 'out of balance' stopping the fast spin no matter how small or re-balanced load I have. what can I try next?
It looks like the author doesn't answer. I have the same issue low spin speed and filling with water trying to get it balanced and over and over again till stop. What is the point to clean the hole? Enough to blow in this tube with a air duster in case of overfilling the tub but low speed how it is connected?
I have a GE washer model GTW860SSJ1WS that won't drain or spin, this happens with about 25 minutes left in the Towels/Sheets cycle. The thing is, the Speed Wash mode works just fine, drains and spins and completes the cycle. What could be the problem? Haven't tried this fix or anything else yet beyond unplugging for a couple minutes.
I have this same washer, but i have a different problem. It will only wash a full-size load. Even when set to small, it fills up to the top. And when set to bulky, it will not start. I can't find any info on what's wrong, and no code is coming up.
Aloha Ben we're thinking of. Getting a Maytag washer from the Home depot, but they stopped making this one particular model but they have a whirlpool washer wich controls almost look exactly the same? Hmm are Maytag and Whirlpool made by same manufacturer? Which brand do u suggest for us to replace our hotpoint washer that is dying out ?? Tnk U Jess & Eve....
Ben Jess here again hmm just bought a whirlpool 3.9 cu washer. Concerned now cause there were a lot of good reviews but a couple that is not good like spins violently and water level issues. Ho man wat do u think is it just some bad lemons that happens wit all eahers or should I cancel the order????
nice video, but I still need help, the model of my washing machine is GTW220ACK2WW. Everything works well, but SPIN doesn't work, How can you help me with this problem please
Started with this fix attempt but it didn't clear issue. So I ran the diagnostics and trouble codes 14 and 23 for lid lock issue. Cleared codes and changed out the part. Still not spinning and the same codes showing again. Anyone have any suggestions?
I had this issue forever and I kept having to remove the clothes to get it to spin and complete the cycle so I could use drain and spin. Then it stopped draining the water all together. We access our GE washer through the bottom by tipping it on its side. We took apart the drain pump and cleaned it out, reassembled it and now it works. I don't think it was completely draining which made it out of balance causing the spin light to flash.
I took a chance and ordered a new controller board. Looks like that was the trick. Don't know how or why it crapped out. Total costs between new board and lid lock mechanism was about $230.00.
@@NRay-bt2kj , I guess this is my next attempt.... I've replaced suspension rods, blew out the drain pressure hose per this video. washer seems to drain, but still no fast spin.
The new GE washer design is very poor. It's easy to loose balance and not spinning. I have to try to even the loaded laundry and redo the spin. Unfortunately, it doesn't work sometimes. The only solution is replace it with other brand!
I bought a top load GE Washer February 2022. Model # GTW335ASN2WW. After using 1 year 4 months it would not go into the Spin Cycle. Tried watching various videos. Nothing seemed to help. GE used to stand for fairly reliable products. Won't be buying another one.
...if it helps anyone else, I took the white component out of the black holder piece, and it bypassed? It was just by chance but works for me until I get my new switch in..
Anyone else have issue getting hose unattached from tub. Same exact model that’s 2 months old but hose must be glued. I can get my arm down there fine but hose is not budging. I feel the hose is going to tear before it’ll come off.
Sneaky Apartment complex has washing machines that don't rinse just wash and spin for 24 min🤨... Have you heard of this like they're trying to save water🤨
Bad board... Worn belt (Out-of-Balance)... Stopped up water valve and/or weak water pressure... Lid Lock (No Spin)... Bad Mode Shifter (Doesn't Shift From Spin to Agitate or Vice Versa)... and Least Likely (Your First Method)
Question for you. Mine won't perform the spin cycle unless I reach in and spin the basket right at the start of the spin cycle. I hear the relay (the click) and I see the motor try to engage, but fail, this is when I reach in and give it an assist. I tried replacing the motor, belt, and start capacitor, but I have the same problem. Any suggestions?
@callbackdons That's going to be either your clutch and/or your timer. A good way to test to see if it's the clutch is to let it reach full speed and see if you can safely stop the tub with your hand and a rag. Try this on normal or heavy duty mode, as delicates and casual modes spin at a lower speed.
When i was a teenager working at w shop that refurbed pc Richards stuff they were supposed to junk afte they did delivery for new equipment. Picked up perfectly good, but dirty old appliances for almost nothing. $10-20, 50 if it was special or almost new. We're getting ripped off by these companies. Can get an entire motherboard for a gaming computer with way more tech than what's in a washing machine shit even a whole computer for the cost of a circuit board on a washer or fridge. They're not even smart either, not usually. They just silicone the damn things in so you can't pull them out the cases they're fixed into. Kinda fucked up. . That shit should be illegal
Hey did you ever arrive at a solution? I've replaced the motor (with a used one) as well as the belt and start capacitor, and mine will only spin if i reach in and forcibly spin it at the start of the spin cycle ..I guess it's totally possible the used motor just has the same problem but I'm hoping it means I just haven't identified the real issue.
I would put it in troubleshoot mode (technical spec sheet is taped in a plastic bag to the metal cabinet, from the inside), and try the drain and spin cycles, within troubleshooting mode. I did this with my washing machine, and discovered that the drain water pump was seized with a piece of what looked like a thread of dental floss. I wrestled with the drain water pump, until it released the entire length of the floss, and re-installed it. It worked again. Oh, and this particular drain water pump really isn’t serviceable, and it had some Chinese text, and branding, that didn’t look like it had anything to do with GE. (well, at least that’s how I saw it). It’s sealed shut, and the impeller is difficult to pull off, and I didn’t try to pull it off after 3 tries. You can’t open the stupid pump, but yet, a thread of dental floss was able to get caught by the impeller, or shaft, and make its way into the inside of the “sealed” motor housing???!!! Unbelievable!!!!

James. I'm here for the exact same reason. Just finished draining this thing. Thinking drain hose was clogged due to pet hair. It's fine. So. Now on to the next
@@bensappliancesandjunk how does one check the pump?
@@MeisterDeeLiTe lol I just bought a new Samsung set from lowes. I looked at reviews and this washer is a pos with multiple problems😂
FB market place it goes
@@jamesmay8740 I just posted this on social media, you'll find it's accurate lol : How do you find out which appliances are garbage? Buy it. That's how. Then you're stuck with it lol I'll give em A+ for that.
I've decided they're all that way now. Made in China. Disposable. Like cars, relationships..
Top seems like it would be easier. I'm going to try that way.
Thank you!! This has saved us! We are so thankful!
You're welcome!
Awesome job thank you so much
I have a lot of sediment from a goofball possibility trying to break my washer. Like a film of lint. Could this contribute or cause something else ?
Worked. Thanks!!!
Any more videos on this washer?
Not yet but I do plan on doing more in the near future.
Any ideas ?
you end up fixing it?
Mine did that as well all on it's own. First flooding only in the x-lg mode then it didn't matter what size I put it on, I had to shut off the H20 after every fill, turn on for every rinse then turn off again, then it stopped flooding for a year. So many other problems with this washer...UGH!
Thank you so much Ben
Thanks this video helped! It fixed my washer
This fixed my washer!
How do I get the coupler out of this thing? My washer is draining and water is going in. No agitating.
It worked! Thanks!
Thank you
Ok Ben, you do appliances and junk. Which one is this machine?
Junk I have the exact same one. Complete garbage GE should be ashamed of themselves.
@@jamesmay8740 believe me. I'm beginning to AGREE 💯
Junk, replacing mine with a Maytag tomorrow
Great Job Thank You
So I have a Maytag ensignia washer not completely super old but at least 10 years old maybe a bit more and it's spinning.
Call GE factory service.
Quick and not very expensive
I have a GE washer model GTW860SSJ1WS that won't drain or spin, this happens with about 25 minutes left in the Towels/Sheets cycle. The thing is, the Speed Wash mode works just fine, drains and spins and completes the cycle. What could be the problem? Haven't tried this fix or anything else yet beyond unplugging for a couple minutes.
I have this same washer, but i have a different problem. It will only wash a full-size load. Even when set to small, it fills up to the top. And when set to bulky, it will not start. I can't find any info on what's wrong, and no code is coming up.
So basically that hose is part of a vacuum, port partially clogged, valve shuts off and clothes remain very wet? Im doing this tomorrow…..thank you
Aloha Ben we're thinking of.
Both are the same manufacturer. Literally working on a video right now explaining who makes all the brands.
@@bensappliancesandjunk ok then doesn't matter which one ?
YOU'RE BUYING A HEADACHE! MAY TAGS, NEW ONES ARE JUNK NOW! WE'VE HAD THREE ALREADY BREAK QUICK.
@@captainamericaamerica8090 Thank U much brother
Ben Jess here again hmm just bought a whirlpool 3.9 cu washer. Concerned now cause there were a lot of good reviews but a couple that is not good like spins violently and water level issues. Ho man wat do u think is it just some bad lemons that happens wit all eahers or should I cancel the order????
nice video, but I still need help, the model of my washing machine is GTW220ACK2WW. Everything works well, but SPIN doesn't work, How can you help me with this problem please
GE/Bodewell Factory Service was very good, well trained service tech.
Reasonable cost
Thanks Ben
Is it possible to reach that port after removing the front panel.
There's no front panel on this model
So couldn’t I do this repair with Mount removing the console by going from the bottom?
Thank you
why does my washing machine Model : GTW465ASN9WW squirt water into the drum momentarily (3 sec) at random when not in use?
The new GE washer design is very poor. It's easy to loose balance and not spinning. I have to try to even the loaded laundry and redo the spin. Unfortunately, it doesn't work sometimes. The only solution is replace it with other brand!
Did you call for GE factory service? Quick and not very expensive
I can't get the pressure hose off? Any suggestions?
I have had so many issues woth this same machine. I will never purchase GE again.
I bought a top load GE Washer February 2022. Model # GTW335ASN2WW. After using 1 year 4 months it would not go into the Spin Cycle. Tried watching various videos. Nothing seemed to help. GE used to stand for fairly reliable products. Won't be buying another one.
I have a ge washer model number gtwn3000m1ws that won't spin. There a red light blinking 3x on the motor. What does this mean? Please help..
Unplug machine, wait 1min, plug it back in then lift and close lid 7 times in about 30 seconds or less
My GE washer looks entirely different from this one. It doesn't have the two screws in the corners behind the panel.
Thank you!
Tried cleaning out port and when I plugged washer back in drain pump started back automatically and still won't shut off.
Great I have one of these junkers
These are not worth it. Buy a speed'queen! Commercial or a sears' older Kenmore
Yes, but I do make these videos to try to help people if they don't have a choice to deal with a bad machine
Followed all of the directions exactly and broke that small plastic piece the hose goes to now I have no idea what to do 😭😭
...if it helps anyone else, I took the white component out of the black holder piece, and it bypassed? It was just by chance but works for me until I get my new switch in..
What model is this
GTW330 I think
Anyone else have issue getting hose unattached from tub. Same exact model that’s 2 months old but hose must be glued. I can get my arm down there fine but hose is not budging. I feel the hose is going to tear before it’ll come off.
😁🤔😃Thank you Ben.
5 years with my ge dryer and washer. Dryer went about 5 months ago. Now the washer is acting up. No more ge's for me.
@@txup92g33 I appreciate your help, I'll try testing the clutch
Genius
Do NOT buy this washer. I had mine less than three years and had it serviced twice already.
It looks like manufacturer defect.
Veeeeeeery funnnnnny
ge has been the joe biden of washers to me. i hate them.
It didn’t work😢
Washer drains but won’t spin.
It’s ok sometimes with lighter loads but not with towels.
