Mr. Edwards, you are a genius. I cleared the blockage in the plastic tube and my GE washer now spins.. My sincere thanks to you for taking the trouble to shoot the video and post it on RUclips.
Thank you Chris.....single mom....can't afford repairs....but my hose was so clogged that I ended up cutting off the excess off the hose and only had to dig out about 2 inches of clog....but it worked like a charm.....thank you soooo much. A month or so back, I replaced the door switch on my dryer thanks to a youtube video. Whooo Hoooo
I was a bit skeptical but people, for all the crap you have to trudge through on the internet and RUclips, THIS is where it pays off. Just like the man said, I had a very obvious black plug about 1/2" long in the end of the tube. I dipped it in a cup of water and worked around (wasn't about to suck it out), flinged it around, it came flying out, plugged it back up, now the soggy clothes are enjoying their beautiful spin cycle! Chris you saved me a lot of headache and probably some cash because I don't have the time to tear this thing apart. Thanks so much!!!!
Thank you so much !! hubby just fixed our washing machine..was no problem after watching this video! Thanks to all the great people that post these video's..I can't tell you how many times they have helped us fix things !!
Thanks so much. Sunday night my daughter called from a thousand miles away with a terribly busy week coming up and a washer full of clothes that wouldn't go into spin. After talking a little I got on Google, found your RUclips video and emailed her the link. Within 10 minutes after she watched the video her washer was spinning. If you ever do it over, I might suggest that you spend a little more time on getting the front cover off, but thanks for what you've done.
Yep, you just saved my ass some $$$. I was about to call a repair guy but then I saw your video. I pulled the hose off and used my air compressor on the hose and I heard the vacuum switch "pop"...the same sound it makes when it has pumped enough water into the barrel. Works like a charm now. Thank you very much sir.
Dude if we were in a bar right now I'd pick up your tab and shake your hand. Unreal that something so simple actually fixed the issue with my non-spinning GE. Thanks a million!
Thank you Chris! Was about to call the GE serviceman but decided to Google the problem .. .. and there you were on You Tube telling me how to fix my GE washer. I popped the front off, cleaned the tube, blew in the tube, heard the solenoid switch, plugged in the power cord, set the timer to spin and away it went! Thanks for your clear explanation!
Thank you for this video. My washer was leaking from the bottom and the spin cycle would not work. Thanks to your video, I've saved $$$ on a repairman and the washer is back working properly.
Wife was getting ready to go buy another washer as this one is 15 yrs. old. Your instructions were great, 5 minutes later Machine works as advertised.. Thanks you saved me a bunch of money!!
Can not tell you how thankful I am that I found your video. My washer has been down for 2 days. And with a family of 5, I can't really afford for my washer to be down. I cleaned out this tube and it works like a charm now. I couldn't be happier. Keep up the good work. Sincerely, The Wife
Damn. Who would have thought that something so easy would fix it. My tube was not really dirty. But, I blew into it anyway, put it back on, and it fixed the problem. Still shaking my head. Thank you!
Thank you, thank you , thank you. Tried all of the other tips on here and nothing worked. Was looking at ordering expensive parts of hiring a service person when I found your video. Went and looked and found a clogged line, cleared it and it worked! So happy.
Your video saved the Day! My daughter and I were thrilled that we needed to pay no man to come and help us out when the washer suddenly stopped draining on the final spin. Following the instructions it took no longer than 15 minutes for the whole process to get it back up and working. Thank you!
Thank you for the easy quick fix. I had a leak under my washer so I took the washer apart and put it back together, minus the front of the washer. Then I put a load in the wash and everything was going good until the spin cycle, ugh. Then I searched and found your quick fix and was greatly relieved that it wasn't going to take the rest of my day to fix it.
Less than 20 minutes start to finish, from searching for the video, to finding the screwdriver, to going out to the shop to get a 6 inch long drill bit to clear out the tube! Thanks for posting! Washing machine working great now.
Like everybody here said "Thanks man"!.Worked great.Quick tip,Its more likely people have a flat screwdriver,so just point it to the clips from the door you showed, push it and it will pop(Im talking about getting the front door open)For the hose I used a metal cloth hanger and clipped it and cleaned the hose(instead of pushing back the dirt). But this are just quick hints, your advice was the one the counted!
Chris, Thank you for your video. I tried your fix for my non-spinning Hotpoint and it worked! I have been searching for three days for a solution and am so glad I finally found your video. I did not see this solution anywhere else. I considered the motor (it's fine), the capacitor (don't have one), the water pump (it's working), lid switch (it tested OK). I had no clue what that tube was for and never suspected it could be the answer. My hats off to you!
You're my hero!! Thank you for sharing! You just saved me hundreds of dollars. All the "Pro" sites addressed "won't spin or agitate" ; "replace your timer or your transmission" etc. but you nailed a simple fix even with a "bad" camera shot. Good job! Thanks again.
You saved me big time in money and unnecessary repairs. I was ready to to take out the capacitor and failing that the motor. No one else that I can see has offered this trouble-shooting advice. Good on you and thanks again!!
OMG, You're a life saver!!! YOU JUST SAVED ME SOOOOO MUCH MONEY, THANK YOU!! I told my friend "Why is it that when you come into money that your appliances, cars, house, kids, or animals ALWAYS need fixing?" But "c'est la vie". Anyway, thank you again this video was SO HELPFUL thank you for posting. My husband is a firefighter and works 48 hour shifts, he JUST left this morning, I am leaving to go out of town myself for a week and was doing laundry when the washer decided to crap out. 🤦🏻♀️ I didn't know what to do, I called my dad; who's 63 and he said "Go to RUclips"! I just laughed, I didn't even think he knew what RUclips was. Okay we'll have a great day. ☺️ #GERepairManStayAtHomeStoleYourJob 😜
Thank You, Sir! This actually cleared up two problems with my washer, both the spin problem, and a load size problem. It kept trying to fill and fill but could never get to the right level. Thanks again!
The first video was amazing! I am so proud of myself and I thank the guy that recorded it. My washer wasn't spinning. Everything he said worked out. I was about to call a repair man thank you again!
Thank You Chris. After watching numerous videos from RUclips and parts distributor right to repair videos, I tried yours and yours only. This fixed my problem instantly. My tube was backed up with at least six inches of black gunk. I think it was from my fabric softener. Once I quit using softener, after twenty five years, my machine is cleaner . No repair man needed. Now since I've done this, I cleaned the washer and am now familiar with all the things that might go wrong. Thank you RUclips and Chris Edwards Restoration.
This same tube, when stopped up will cause the washer to overflow. I had that problem a couple of times and had to clear the tube. Didn't know it would cause it not to spin. Thanks so much!
Thank you SO much for this! We were pulling our hair out trying to figure out what was going on with our washer and why it wasn't spinning. I stumbled upon your video and when we looked at that little hose, it was very clogged. We cleared it and it works wonderfully again! Thank you!
Thank you so much for wonderful advice. clearing out the clog in the tube did the trick. After watching a few videos that recommended replacing the drive belt and the switch, I thought I'd try your fix first and it worked. I appreciate you saving me from a repair bill just after Christmas. :-)
Shut The Front Door!!! I just cut the hose - cut out the junk. The hose was long enough to do it. Did it in 3-minutes!!! You are the man! (But today, I am the man).
This solved the problem. Our wash machine would neither agitate nor spin. The tube was clear, but the nipple on top of the box was clogged with slime. I used a long toothpick to clear the nipple, used the reset and now the wash machine works fine. It really is a five minute fix. Thanks for this service call saving tip.
Hey Chris - THANK YOU. This fixed the issue I was having, and saved $$$'s in repair or replacement costs. Strange that no other mainstream blogs speak about this issue. Thanks again.
you are most welcome, I was in the same boat back then. i shared it to help others, and with over 245K helps, thats a lot, and I'm glad i did. thats what its all about. sharing help to help others as I use others help in return. glad it worked.
Had to leave a comment again... had to do this again on our washing machine after my wife said that it wasn't spinning... I think I have done this at least a few times over the years, so I knew what the fix was... what works good is a stiff wire, and one of those thin drinking bottles for cleaning the straws out... a long one is best, so you reach up and clean further up, like 12"... back in business... my wife was amazed ! Thanks again !
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration I was cleaning out the hose... so you blow compressed air into to the box that the hose is attached to ? I didn't see an easy way of removing the box... where does gunk in the box go when blown ?
Thank you so much for sharing this. Our machine's timer broke and that was an easy enough fix, but the spin cycle still wasn't kicking in. Three seconds fishing gunk out of the hose and off she goes! Appreciate the help!
Thanks for posting this because it made me go through a day of trouble shooting my washer for why it did not spin during the dry/spin cycle.. Either the hose can be clogged or the air dome (the plastic box) on the side of the plastic tub can be clogged. DON"T TRY TO REMOVE IT OR YOU WILL DAMAGE THE TUB. If the air dome is dirty and water remains in it when the tub is empty, the air dome outlet at the bottom is clogged into the tub and must be cleared. If the air dome is dirty and not clear, clean out both the top and the bottom holes of the air dome. Any water should drain out into the tub when empty. Mine had accumulated water and would not drain. To unclog my air dome I first used an air compressor at about 40psi. I then used a syringe with vinegar and pumped about 7x 5ml through the air dome into the tube trying to clean it. I then ran the washer through a cycle with hot water trying to dilute the vinegar. Bleach could be used but it is more toxic. I ran it with bleach and hot water at its highest water level to clean out the air dome. It is not as clean as I want it because the plastic air dome still is not clear on the bottom. I think one of the dishwasher cleaning products, such as by Tide, might help clean out the air dome as well. In my experience, resetting the tub level selection switch by blowing into the end of the hose only worked for one wash cycle if you don't clean out the air dome. The automatic fill level still did not work properly on my Hydrowave GE washer until the air dome was unclogged. So, don't just look at the hose, check the air dome to be sure it is not clogged.
Thank you! This fixed my spin cycle AND timer stays on issues. My hose was clogged with 4 inches of black gunk. I used a coat hanger to scrape the inside walls of the hose, then squirted Mean Green degreaser into the hose, let it sit for 5 seconds, drained it into a bucket, then repeated the process until the gunk was gone. Then I used a shop vac to suck out the spray/gunk as a final step. Thank you!
OK, I had seen this video last year but that wasn't the problem, HOWEVER My own washer stopped spinning yesterday and the pressure from my wife has been relentless after a major hard work week I really did not want to be hounded so I did a search and found this video again. It was the issue, Had a slime in the tube. What I do not understand is you said to Blow in the tube and to me it seems it would blow up it would simply clog again. I used a fondue skewer to basically scrape it out. Thanks God it worked afterwards and now I can go sit down in my lazyboy. Thanks again, No telling how many washers are in the dump over a stupid clogged tube.
blow in the tube to make the pressure sensor click. you can clean it out. it comes from cheap detergent not breaking down and getting over run in to the pressure box, thus causing the pressure switch not to click.. Glad it worked.
Great video! Thanks! One IMPORTANT NOTE.... DO NOT DO THIS when you have water in the tub. It will cause the vacuum actuator to take in water and the level sensor gets fubar'd. Then you end up flooding your apartment and the computer office beneath you. Ask me how I know. I'm all set now though. Just a few hours of shop vac'ing and cleaning up water. Back in laundrious action!
Thanks for this. I thought it was my belt, but forgot about this hose, and voila, cleaned it out and I'm all good again. I have had trouble with that hose over time as it also controls how much the washer fills and a few years back it wasn't telling the washer to stop filling and it overflowed. Thanks again for your vid and reminder!
I know this is an older video and you may not see this comment but thank you so much!jI was expecting a broken belt but found it perfectly in tact, and then i was suspecting the transmission. Lucky for me I decided to consult with the google and found your video. Worked like a charm. You just saved my ass man! lol
Hey man this was the fix for me YEEHAA ~!!! I would buy you a beer if I could... I tried a few other things that did not help and I was Stumped,,,, I was getting ready to look up prices for a motor , then my son and I started talking and as I was just going through some more vid's we saw yours ... as soon as you started talking about the pressure hose my son and I just looked at each other , went back unplugged the vacuum hose blew into it a couple times heard the click , reset the machine turned it on and it WORKED, so a couple shit eatin grin's ( Like we did something great ) but you saved me Money and time.. THANKS ~!!!
Good info in the video. Thumbs up. It's really easy to remove the hose at the top too. In the back at the top there are four hex screws. Remove those and the control panel tips forward. You'll see the hose connected to the pressure switch on the left. Take it off and run a pipe cleaner through it so any crud comes out the bottom. Taa daa.
If this doesn’t work and the tube is clear but still not agitating. Try to reset the motor. My GE washer required me to unplug the washer for 1 minute, then plug it back in. Within 12 seconds, lift and close the lid engaging and disengaging the lid switch magnet 6 times. Then see if it will spin. This worked for me.
Thank you so much. I was expecting to drop $130 on a new clutch. My vacuum tube was so packed with black gunk, it looked like it was supposed to be like that.
wow so easy! i had six inches of black gunk (probably algae, live in a rainforest and washer is in an uninsulated shed). hardest part was figuring out that I could use a combo of water rinses and a stiff wire so I could avoid pushing that dirt further up and also avoid mouth contact (ew!).
Thank you so much!! this was such an easy fix...once I managed to get the front cover off. I am so glad to not have to buy a new washer (I trust the stuff made a long time ago more than I trust the newer stuff)
I'm about to try your method out cause my washer as been doing this for along time now and I was thinking about buying a new one for $150 but then I saw this video so I'm going to give it a try. I'll be leaving a comment after I'm doing what you have done to your washer.
OMG Thank you so much. My husband just went to the gym and I felt the need to try to fix it before I called GE repair person. Just couldn't get the box on the side off. Ideas??
You don't take the box off it is sealed to the drum. Just use an old pipe cleaner or something small to clean it best you can. Once the tube is cleared it should work again
I used to have this same problem with the tube clogging. you can remove it at both ends if you remove the control panel by unscrewing the three screws on the back and sliding the panel over until it come off. Then carefully remove the other end of the tube from the water level switch. Again, be extra careful doing this. I broke my switch mounting clips that are part of the panel and had to do an ugly repair to avoid having to buy a whole new panel front just so the water switch would stay in place. Once you get the tube off the switch you can remove it completely just look first at how it is in there. Now you can run clean water and a coat hanger to it completely clean. I discovered that it was clogging because of cheap detergent. We were using factory seconds from a major company and about every six months my basement flooded and I had to clean the tube. After we switched I haven't had to clean it again. Also, the ends of the tube will lose seal because they get old. just cut the ends off that were on the connectors a half inch or so on both ends. Don't worry about the tube getting to short if you have to do it often you can buy the same tubing at any hardware store for a couple dollars a foot. I also have not had to do this since we changed detergent.
we were using factory seconds we got from a scratch and dent store. It was super cheap and worked like normal detergent. It was liquid. It was set up where you paid for a one gallon bottle for like $.80 and $4.99 for a gallon of detergent for each gallon and return the gallon when it was empty and exchange it for a new one for just the cost of the detergent. They have fabric softener and a couple other things as well. I was really ticked off when I figured out what the cause was because our washer and dryer were only a few months old at the time.

+hmattyj mine had water in it and worked fine, no water issues. important safety tip though!
Thanks so much Chris! I used a hanger to dig the gunk out of my clogged tube. Washer works like new now.
Worked!! You saved my washer. I never comment on RUclips videos. But this was so easy and it was exactly the problem. Thank you.
Nice!! Started spinning after I disconnected the tube. Going to cut the tube clean it out and use a automotive vacuum fitting to reattach.
Nice work, fixed my washer in no time flat, now the missus can get back to work ;)
Thank you so much. I tried the "knob fix" explained in another video with no luck. This was the real solution that worked for me.
I know this is an older video and you may not see this comment but thank you so much!jI was expecting a broken belt but found it perfectly in tact, and then i was suspecting the transmission. Lucky for me I decided to consult with the google and found your video. Worked like a charm. You just saved my ass man! lol
nope your welcome, i watch comments all the time, enjoy!
You saved me so much time and money! Thank you sooooo much for sharing your knowledge.
I don't know for how long is going to last but, your advice and instructions gave us some more loads to wash. Thanks a lot !
well its still going so hopefully for years to come!
THANKS ~!!!
i love that comment lol!
Excellent video, the faithful GE is spinning again, my sincere thanks to you, Chris!
You just saved me a lot of money on a "repair" man or a new washer. Thanks!
I was able to fix my own washer ALL BY MYSELF!!! Well...with your help but you know what i mean. :D THANKS CHRIS!!!
Taa daa.
Glad it worked!
Been working on this dang machine for hours and all I had to do was blow on it a little. Thanks a lot for the video. Was worth all the shakes lol
If you are in Iowa I owe you a steak dinner. Fixed it right up. Thanks for posting this.
+John Ruhland PA, but thanks!
Yes, big clog in the hose. Black gunk about 4 inches deep. Now the washer spins...thank you so much.
Thank you, was about to try a new belt, but gave this a shot and Grumpy is happy as a clam.
Worked perfectly for zero dollars! Thank you!!!!
Thank you VERY MUCH!! The only thing I have
to say is, I had to use a pry bar to snap off the front.
The washer works GREAT!!!!! (y)
Wow thankyou so much.It worked. You saved me about $50.00.God bless you.
This worked! The tube wasn't blocked but the little box was. After blasting it with some compressed air the spin cycle worked again
good stuff, what a great find while the noise coming from my wife is louder than the spin cycle not working. Thank you, this worked
I turned the load size knob back and forth a few times and the tub started spinning! Thanks for the advice!
worked like a charm, thanks for saving me from buying a new washer.
Thank you!! You just saved me an expensive service call. It works!!!!!!!
Thank you for this video! This was the problem with my washer. It's now spinning great!
this video just saved me $400.00. if you're ever in Hot Springs Arkansas I'll buy you beer!
wow so easy! i had six inches of black gunk (probably algae, live in a rainforest and washer is in an uninsulated shed). hardest part was figuring out that I could use a combo of water rinses and a stiff wire so I could avoid pushing that dirt further up and also avoid mouth contact (ew!).
i think thats the record
Really superb information. Fixed it in 5 minutes. Thank you.
You are my favorite. Thank you! My washer is currently spinning its little heart out.
good sir, even three years later your video showed me what to look for and fix my washer. thank you
thats what its all about, so close to 200,000! and you are most welcome!
Thanks for posting this video. Fixed my washer in less than 20 minutes.
Thank you so much!! this was such an easy fix...once I managed to get the front cover off. I am so glad to not have to buy a new washer (I trust the stuff made a long time ago more than I trust the newer stuff)
Glad it helped!
good lord, it worked for me, now my wife's gonna stop asking for a new goddamn washer
+emucosmos lol
Worked like a champ!!! Wished I would have taken the time to watch this video before I bought the timer!!!
Thank you so much! The battle with my stupid washing machine is now over!
I'm about to try your method out cause my washer as been doing this for along time now and I was thinking about buying a new one for $150 but then I saw this video so I'm going to give it a try. I'll be leaving a comment after I'm doing what you have done to your washer.
hope it works it's helped almost 90 thousand now so I hope it helps you too. 8-)
Thank you, I almost bought another washing machine ... And it was so easy to fix!!!!
Worked for me. Thanks for making the videos. Saved me time and money!
Thanks bro, this worked for me. However, I still see leftover boogers in the tube, how can I clean the tube to prevent the problem from reoccurring?
unhook it from the load size sensor and clean it in water or cleaner, etc. coat hanger, blow it out with compressed air, etc..
Thank you Chris! The washer spins again. 😀
You probably saved me $100. Thanks!
This was totally the problem!!! Thank you SO MUCH.
thank you, this helped us too, our washer wasn't filling with water or spinning.
I also have not had to do this since we changed detergent.
excellent comment and discovery, never thought of cheap detergent.
ALLxoxoxoxo when you say "cheap detergent" are you referring to liquid or powder? I use liquid.
ALLxoxoxoxo powered
we were using factory seconds we got from a scratch and dent store.
Just fixed our washer using your tip. Thanks!!!
This just worked for me, and saved me a service call. Thank you!
