This week, what we consider to be the real hidden gem in the Porsche 911 991.2 generation - the mighty C4S Targa. Steeped in history, beautiful to behold, featuring THAT folding roof, and now packing serious flat-6 twin-turbo firepower.
The Targa used to be the wimpy runt of the litter (993, 996, 997 & 991.1), but this final edition is a serious drivers’ car with unbeatable versatility, and the ability to turn heads at 50 paces.
And it’s a favourite of Jay Kay from Jamiroquai!
Will this Carmine Red beauty work its way into the CarGuys’ garage? Can Jason be converted to modern 911s? Will the roof keeping working? All these questions and more are answered in this week’s episode. Enjoy!
Created by two ordinary guys with an obsession for cars, TheCarGuys.tv is a digital channel that celebrates everything automotive - supercars, classics, quirky, hidden gems and those in the TCG garage.

Huge leap forward in cinematography in this video. The first minutes contain very good visual work. The overlap of the roof diagram and the real one opening was outstanding.
Back to the car, I would have a coupe to be fair, but I reckon that the Targa looks much nicer than the cabriolet and has way more personality.

Curtis Upperman I’m not a fan of recent Ferraris tbh the 488, 812(specially from the front those headlights look hideous!) plus they all lack in performance when you compare them to their competitors like Lamborghini and Mclaren and of course Porsche
The modern Ferraris I like are F12(still the most beautiful modern Gt car) ,La Ferrari, 360 challenge ,430 scud and ofc 458 and 488 pista maybe
And ofc I’m a big fan of f50,f40 enzo and 250 gto you know the classic Ferraris
But at the end of the day it’s lambo for me

    • @wherearetheavacados6356
      @wherearetheavacados6356 5 лет назад

Curtis Upperman I agree the 812 sounds amazing and I bet it would be great fun sliding around on track and burnouts .....sad to see we won’t see v12 Ferraris or any v12s for that matter anymore in the future..then these RUclips videos will remind us the drama and emotion of these glorious v12s when everything has gone electric ⚡️
I remember someone saying that ,”Car guys are just nerds who though PC building and comic books weren’t an expensive enough hobby “lol

This is an old video now, but the value of 991.2 targa’s is going through the roof! Pardon the pun! I have been looking for one, then sell in days and the prices have gone up by £10k in the last two weeks. Watching every RUclips review you can see why. Damen and Jason you are spot on, in your reviews. Every film is a must watch. Keep up the great work! My quest to find the right targa continues... cheers Rich

I think Porsche should make a special "RS" version of the Targa 4S by deleting the mechanism of the roof top and use a manual hop-on T-top and possibly going through a 'GT3' light weighted treatment to make it a more desirable sports car with Targa top. Tks for the video!

Great video. I own this car with a manual transmission since June 2016 and happy to report after 20k miles and countless of targa roof use, the wobbly roof is still functioning reliably and as wobbly as ever but is still working after almost 3 yrs. Great car and do prefer it as my daily driver to my 2017 Macan GTS, my 991.2 GT3, 991.2 GT3 RS, 991.2 GT2 RS, And my GT4 and I drive on all weather conditions including heavy snow and of course on track and autocross. Shortly after I got it, I remember shattering the egos of few GT3 991.1 owners as this car beat them both on track and on autocross on standard P zero tires and with a manual transmission. Imagine if this beast wore cup 2 tires like my other GT Porsches... Lovely Lovely car. Only complain the exhausts note. Mark

A regular fixed roof car is metal all around and the roof part probably has electronics going through it for luxuries and extra materials for sound proofing.
A convertible actually puts the most weight on a car the folding soft top frame being the culprit.
The Targa roof mechanism looks really thin probably used of lightweight metals. Idk if it is but the targa top is probably fiberglass and not metal

I am happy to report that my 2017 targa 4S was traded last month for new 992 targa 4S after 4.5 yrs of ownership and 25K miles and been through hundreds of autocross and track events. the roof back piece although is wobbly and looks awkward during operation, held up very well without any problems. Probably opened and closed the roof about +100 times a year and still no issues. The new car roof still looks awkward during operation but I am not too concerned. Mark

Well done gents. The overall length of a 991.1 compared even to a 2004 Carrera 4S is very similar. A significant difference is in the length of the wheel base and this is what I believe makes the 991.1 models feel more un-Porsche-like. I believe what improves the sensation is more lower -end torque via the turbos in the 991.2 models. Great channel.

What year was your 911 C4S Targa? I watched your RUclips video and I have a 2018 911 Targa 4S and it does not have headlight washers while your model had them. I know mine was made for the U. S. market but the elimination of such an iconic item was disappointing because I previously owned a 1984 911 Targa and it had this feature. Also, your concern about the functioning of the roof may be of concern, but I am not worried about it as an owner. My dealer tried to get me to upgrade to a GTS but I chose to keep it simple since I was not intending to race the car and there are only certain areas where one can open this car up and I have felt that the 4S has plenty of power in those instances. Thanks for the review, and by the way, I have tired the LAUNCH CONTROL but not the instant acceleration from the center button. I will try it on my next trip later this month.

Spot on about the top. I actually like the 718 Spyder's top mechanism. You do it yourself! Less can go wrong when it's a manual top.

    Nice review guys
When I was after my sub £13k Porsche I had a look at a 996 Targa with a broken roof, I soon changed my mind when the bill to fix it was going to be over £7,000!
I'll stick to my Cayman S thanks 😊

The real hidden gem is the Targa 4GTS 991.1 - since it has the last of the natural aspirated engines... And it was produced in much smaller quantities since Targa was not as appreciated as it is nowadays...

If you are using a lot of the steering wheel do you bang your fingers on the mode actuator? Looks like an unusual design oversight by Porsche...?

Great real-world coverage. I likewise would want the full-fruit Turbo S simply because it exists! Admittedly these new 911's have all the beans you'll ever need however.

Nice review Guys. Think you will find that there is one company in Germany that make the roof mechanisms for all cabriolets and convertibles irrespective of the manufacturer and have done for decades, so it should be perfectly reliable. BTW if you think that roof mech is heavy and cumbersome then you should check out the ones Mercedes use on the SL... 😀

I really like that , I like the heritage of the targa, although this is the modern iteration of it, bigger heavier and more safety built in, it still looks the part, I also like the fact it still has the porsche wail , unlike the current M2, M3 and M4 which sound woeful for modern turbo engines and not forgetting the clarkson "pedal to the metal" quote from the Mercedes SLR to Oslo episode. 😉😉👍👍

It's a beautiful Porsche. It reminds me of the 72' S Targa that I drove, which belonged to my brother. However, there are two things that I don't like about the spec in this Vlog. The lack of a manual gearbox. And, that turbo. God, I hate turbos. They're ruining F1 for me, and I think they should all be gathered up and thrown into the ocean. There. I feel better now.
