That's great to hear, Gee. They sell loads of Porsches, and pride themselves on their service and realistic prices. We're not affiliated with them in any way, but you can't help but be impressed with what they have achieved.
TheCarGuys.TV yeah couldn’t agree more, their stock is brilliant. I saw this exact GTS in person and it’s absolutely stunning.. THE colour to get it in!
not sure if anyone gives a shit but if you are bored like me during the covid times then you can stream pretty much all of the new movies on instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my girlfriend recently =)
I suspect the 27,000+ who have viewed this feel pretty much the same way I do. I felt like I was sitting in the passenger seat and you were talking directly to me. Jason, thanks for the ride and the info!
The crazy thing with u two is that u r both equally entertaining to watch! It doesn't matter who does the review, it is great and on point. Of course we prefer u both on the screen together!
I agree - I've also got a 991.1 C2S (with the sports exhaust) and if I could have afforded a GTS - I would have bought one without hesitation! Oh and the alcantara wheel can be cleaned with a specialist solution (a bit like carpet cleaner).
Jason, yes, yes, yes, great review! I've been saying for a while that the 15' 2WD GTS will become a classic and that you guys need to add one to your stable! I absolutely love mine, changed to FabSpeed sports headers which makes it sound amazing and had a custom carbon steering wheel done by Vivid Racing which totally transforms the look of the cabin. Buy it!!! :)
My 991.1 S2 PDK had to go in repairs after an accident. I got a brand new 992 Gts PDK for a few months. Whilst it was fast I just couldn’t get on with it. There was no connection to the car and engine and I could barely hear any engine noise! When I finally got my car back….oh boy I was smiling and at that point I knew I could only ever change for a naturally aspirated upgrade!
I agree that this car will become a future classic. Jason, as well as others, makes the point that it has an intoxicating sound track that is lost in the turbos. Everybody knows the benefits of turbos but the engagement that you get with a manual NA car cannot be replaced simply by more torque and speed. In 20 years, when EV's are much more common, it is cars like this that will attract real petrol heads.
Very good choice if you can get the right price. For a used one a well specified 991.1 Carerra 2S can give almost the same driving experience without the widebody and extra power and should be much cheaper. I have a C2S with PDK, PASM, Sport Chrono and they drive very similar. I recently looked at buying a GTS but the cost to change from the C2S wasn't worth it. I will definitely look at one of these next time round.
I know this is an older video, but- Good review, like the channel! I subbed. I’ve been looking for a used GTS to pick up. Here lies the problem: I believe every car RUclipsr has stated (many times) this car is a good value, and “ticks the performance options for less money”. I am here to say, this simply isn’t true, partly because of all the high praise it gets, I believe. This car is not a value used, it is highly sought after, and production #’s are much lower than Carrera S models. So in reality, i can get a used Carrera “S” with most or almost all of the GTS options for less money than an actual GTS with lower miles. So this value option is only true if you buy new, and the dealer doesn’t mark up the order or car your buying. People are going to blast me for this, and it’s Ok, 911’s are massively overpriced in the last couple years, especially the used ones. I’m actually trying to find a used one that is 991.1, and they are either beat up and abused, or just simply waaaaaay too much money for what they are. I know the 911 is a classic, and a great car overall, but there simply is too many other “fast” car options now that are not only faster, but less money. Will they hold their value as well? Probably not, but unless your buying a GT3 used or new, these cars are not good investments, they will still loose money and depreciate, but because people are treating them that way, nobody that owns them is actually driving them, they garage queen them to a life of short weekend drives to cars for coffee, which honestly is a travesty. I guess the biggest thing that bothers me is that cost of entry into the 911 club is so expensive now you have to choose between sending one of your kids to college or having a car. Or your just simply so rich you can do both, and chances are your not a car guy then, your just a super rich guy who will buy a 911 and not know the real difference between it and a C8 Corvette, something many of my friends are telling me I should buy instead. Porsches are not cheap, never have been, i get that, but when did they become the car for the “super” rich only, not for the guy who does “well” but has to be smart with money. It’s a real bummer, honestly. I guess if I found out I had like 5 years to live, I’d probably buy one anyway, but how else is it justified? I would certainly end up divorced, then I guess I’d need the car to go on dates 😂
As an a 991.1 GTS PDK owner, I fully understand your point of view. I bough mine a year ago, same as in the video, and price higher by 15k than 3 years ago. I was fully aware about this, obvioulsy not happy with this trend, but fuck, we have only one life. My kids have the proper size for the moment to fit on rear seats. Buy a nice exemplar with low kms and proper config, and you will see back most of your money when you will sale it. Last NA with terrible sound, only 2 years of production, wide body, superb wheels, exclusive carmin red paint, GTS carbon interior,.. so all goods points to keep his value. This is not a risky buy. And what a pleasure, sound, accuracy, look, really feeling to drive a special car... No turbo hence also better reliability. In a close future, we even don't know if we will still be allowed to use it, so enjoy now! Otherwise, if you don't have the money, you have cheaper very good options like AMGs, Jag F type, Lotus, Corvette....
Bought a near new lava orange 991.2 GTS last August, replacing my Aston Martin V8 Vantage S, which in turn replaced a V8 Vantage. I besotted. It's such an incredible car. I still cannot wipe the smile off my face every time I drive it, which is very regularly. Very much enjoy watching your content Jason and love your collection.
Definitely my favourite car on a track was this car, the 991.2 gts.and I’ve tried plenty of others. It’s a monster and I fell in love with it. Porsche take some beating. Good video
Thanks. GTS models always have to work extra hard because the next generation isn’t going be far off. Porsche have to walk a fine line between truly great cars and parts-bin specials. This one looks as though it’s well on the right side of that line.
"Dual carriage way" words not used any where else in the world. "Hand cheese" - excellent description and why leather is better than Alcantaritis causing material.
The Alcantara steering wheel is very easy to clean and get it back to looking new again. Just use a microfibre cloth and lukewarm water make the cloth damp and rub it around the steering wheel. If it’s really bad use a bit of fabric cleaner. Tom can alway bring it around to me I will do it for him.
Great review! For all the reasons you cite, I traded from my 458 for a Speedster and while I miss the sound of that amazing flat plane crank V8 there are so many more things I love about the Porsche - that perfect short throw manual makes all the difference in a great driving experience.
Great review, but then I would say that as I have one. The 991.1 manual GTS is Porsche’s best kept secret, the only problem is that there are so few around. : -(
They are more rare than GT3/2/RS cars. A great value to current and potential owners who drive their car a good bit and appreciate longer term ownership with the lady.
Sound advice, the manual 2WD car is the one to go for but you’ll be looking hard for one in the UK at least as there are just 47 on the road. If you see one, grab it!
@@vtallus1 I just sold my manual 991.1 c4s... I didn't love their 7speed manual at all.. Surprisingly.. Loved my 6 speed in two boxsters.. And the 7speed manual in the C7 corvette.. Disappointing.. I even upgraded the shifter, clutch, shifter cables and fluids to try and help.. It didn't
Nice review Jason, this channel is a great education- I know more about Porsche's than I ever have. The 'complete' car it would seem then. I have always had a soft spot for red & black on a car.
Nice work Jason. As much as I really enjoy Damian's personality, humour and presentation, it's good seeing you again Jason taking the lead and I love the Porsche content. Nice review, I like the GTS. Would love that spec GTS as a daily driver (Daddy's car! we're a family of 6, so got SUVs and People Carriers for the 4 kids as run arounds (NZ & UK), so this GTS in UK could be a winner for me. Thank you Jason, great video, enjoyed it!
My car (991.1 C4 GTS in Carmine Red) is almost identical to this car. Drove it back to back with a 991.2 GTS - of the two, mine was the car which made me laugh out loud. Gen 2 car faster, no doubt. But what's important is how the car makes you FEEL. My car won that contest hands down. The naturally aspirated flat 6 (430ps) is a masterpiece. Absolutely intoxicating once you go past 4500 / 5000 rpm and just gets better and better to the red line. Addictive! Like a racing car. Everyone wants a manual - but they are like rocking-horse sh**. PDK is a perfectly acceptable compromise
Further to driving this car I did drive a 991.2 manual this weekend and actually I'm in love ... although it's lacking the noise the extra pace makes it superb
I have one sapphire blue high spec I bought it new, was thinking about changing to a cayenne coupe but after watching your video I have changed my mind, everytime I start it up it puts a grin on my face 🤣🤣 a keeper me thinks
Enjoyed the review. Like you Jason never bern into Porsche. Just realised that someone owns one of these a street away in a dark red,/scarlet colour that looks amazing.
Useful review as the GTS appears to be a more livable solution when comparing it to the GT3 Touring or Carrera T - particularly with a manual transmission. Would appreciate your thoughts on the GT3 T’s box v the GTS 7speed. Also the comparison regarding the sound deadening aspects of the two. Cheers Bill
In addition to Jason's comments the 991.1 X51 powerkit that comes in the GTS is the most extensive on ever offered. It includes unique port and polished head, cam and intake manifold. Interesting read below if you want technical details. Much more extensive than the 991.2 power kit that is minor turbo part change. www.porscheengineering.com/filestore/download/peg/en/pemagazin-02-2012-artikel-leistungssteigerung911carreras/default/188a8b1a-c26c-11e4-a19d-001a64c55f5c/The-911-Carrera-S-Powerkit-Porsche-Engineering-Magazine-02-2012.pdf
The watch is great with the car but I think a TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 02 with a black face and the red and silver accents fits a bit better in this car. Nice Review by the way! Good quality content.
Love the GTS model. Nothing more to say. Great car. If you keep the auto stop/start switch off long enough it will stop working and you never have to worry about it shutting off again...at least that’s what happened to mine
Steel brakes have the same stopping power as carbon ceramics. The difference is that the steel brakes fade faster when used intensely repeatedly, really noticeable on track. Weight is a second factor, but much less noticeable. For daily use, steel brakes, especially if they are Porsche brakes, are just fine. A third argument is the look of the car changes for the better or worse depending on the trim you select for it.
The GTS is a lovely car. The funny thing about the 911 configurator is that it's easy to upsell yourself in to one of these once you starting adding options to the Carrera. You may as well go GTS for the money.
Finally someone is recognizing the 991.1 🙂 the last of the normally aspirated Carreras… Finally someone with an independent views, and not surrendering to the manufacturer’s bullying to promote their strategy
Great review Jason, agree silver wheels would make it pop. “Hand cheese” comment was the best yet, another one for the The Car Guys dictionary alongside “Beanage”
I was fortunate enough to drive an Ashford GT car back from Beaulieu. It was an intense and fantastically enjoyable treat, but it was definitely not a car you would want to drive on the school run or across continents. This looks like a really well resolved compromise. A Jekyl and Hyde that you have a modicum of control over. Great solo review Jason. Cheers.
TheCarGuys.TV just been for a drive in a silver 991 GTS - but a later turbo version. Contrast stitching was a little more demure but the cabin is indeed a very desirable place to be. As for the torque! Low down linear grunt was so good you forget it’s a turbo, sport mode delivers added aural pleasure with a few burbles and pops. What a brilliant machine. Bang on review Jason.
I went all leather, instead of Alcantara, with my 991.1 GTS, 7MT against the advice of all my mates. After the fad passes, it proven to be the proper long-term decision (and includes seat cooling as a bonus).
@@Mastermindthreethousand I agree it is a fad, even worse the manufactures have hoodwinked people into buying and expensive upgrade to an inferior product just for the snob factor👍
Never had that problem with alcantara, even had a leather wheel we trimmed in it. You just need to take care of it properly as you do leather. Leather wheels will go taxi shiny if not cared for, alcantara goes flat. simple, proper care needed
I had a 13 991.1 c4s manual.. The manual was awful, wish it was better.. Upgraded to numeric.. But I think I'll look for a c4gts pdk, 991.1 (even though he ends saying manual and 2wd).. a 991.1 turbo is the same price though.. Both used.. Even a Gt3 991.1 isn't much off.. Tough choice.. For daily a Gt3 is tough.. Turbo fast, gts is na and sounds amazing
Hi TheCarGuys, good to see a review from Jason. I wonder what impact Brexit will have on prices of new and used Euro brands like Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Mercedes. Too bad we Aussies don't have any more "good" GT cars to send your way! Cheers Peter
Hello Jason cool GTS how does it compare with the Carrera T. Would you be better off buying the newer Carrera T or going for an older GTS. All the best love the channel. P.S when are you going to test drive the stunning Porsche GT can’t wait.
I think the S is the best value for performance. The second level trim of ANY car is usually the sweet spot. Go higher and you're just handing money to the manufacturer for not much gain.
Finally someone who agrees with me about Alcantara it reminds we of that guy off the singing detective - cringeworthy. It was clear you were minimising touching that wheel the whole time 👍🤪
991.2 GTS combines elements of the 991.1GTS and the Carrera T with even more torque low down - acceleration in day to day driving even more accessible (provided you are above 2,500 rpm!). Perhaps best of both worlds?
@@hankhoh So it would seem on paper But, drive them both and it’s the 991.1’s naturally aspirated screaming engine that’s going to get you far more excited than a bit of extra torque. I’ve had both; 991.2 got sold after 12 months. 991.1 had for over 4 years and I’m never going to so sell.
@@TheCarGuysTV Yes. Carmine red or Karminrot in German. Like it better than Guards red which in my opinion is a bit too bright and flashy. For me Carmine red somehow adds depth and character to a Porsche more than most other colors available. And if you spec the rest of the car right together with that color option you get a very attractive yet sophisticated car. Maybe for you to consider if you ever decide to buy another new Porsche.
991.2 is 3L t win turbo so yes, very different. They traded the full panoramic driving experience for more power and now the car is not balanced. That means it no longer carries magic
Although I enjoy the videos with the two of you the most, it's a rare treat to have a Jason solo video. Jason always seems to push the cars harder, which is particularly amusing when this involves scaring Damian. PS Is the rev-matching mandatory in Sport Plus? Never understand why they don't give the driver the option with any of these things: just make it all separate so you can choose what you want.
Anyone knows if manual 992 has an ON/OFF auto rev match switch like the one on the new Speedster? Highly doubt that though, most likely it will be just as the same design as 991 manual, ie auto rev match is mandatory on Sport/Sport +.
Just bought a 991.1 C2S from the guys at Ashgood, could recommend them enough. Incredible service, super friendly and always at the end of a phone!

Love the GTS model. Nothing more to say. Great car. If you keep the auto stop/start switch off long enough it will stop working and you never have to worry about it shutting off again...at least that’s what happened to mine
Great tip!
As an all rounder / daily, 100%
Great content Jason. Keep 'em comin. Cheers
This and an E60 M5 touring, perfect 2 car garage
Johannes van Rensburg oh yes
They are exactly I have, a 2016 911 GTS and a E60 M5. They are equally fun.
Michael W , very nice. Enjoy your collection , I’m honestly envious.
Loved my GTS, don’t forget you can’t spec up the wide body or centre locks on any other carrera
You mean the wide body you are getting with every 4 Wheel drive 911?
Great review! Enjoy watching both of you guys! 😎
The GTS is a lovely car. The funny thing about the 911 configurator is that it's easy to upsell yourself in to one of these once you starting adding options to the Carrera. You may as well go GTS for the money.
My point exactly
And that's exactly what I did 7 years ago!
Finally someone is recognizing the 991.1 🙂 the last of the normally aspirated Carreras… Finally someone with an independent views, and not surrendering to the manufacturer’s bullying to promote their strategy
Love the fact you share what watch you’re wearing. Would be even better if you could provide the link below for the watch. 👍
We now provide the exact ref so that you can more easily find them
TheCarGuys.TV love the cars love the watch.....miss England and the people... and of course my local pub !
Great review Jason, agree silver wheels would make it pop. “Hand cheese” comment was the best yet, another one for the The Car Guys dictionary alongside “Beanage”
Very nice in Carmine Red and yes it sounds awesome. Good review. Makes you want one!
Cheers.
Nice one, Shamus
I would have agreed with you from the start 👍. If you use it as a daily, leather is the best choice, nicer than any other fabric to be in.
@@Mastermindthreethousand I agree it is a fad, even worse the manufactures have hoodwinked people into buying and expensive upgrade to an inferior product just for the snob factor👍
@@sibat777 it is up to the individual to see beyond that and make sure to buy the best product, not always being the most expensive.
Shane R dead right as alcantara looks rubbish after a few years use
Does any one know how many RHD 991.1 GTS were sold or are out there?
The 997 GTS is worth considering too as they are cheaper than the 991. I'm an in closet fan of the 997's skinner look.
Does this N/A engine of the 991.1 GTS sound louder than a 992 C2S?
Yeah it’s a N/A engine which is louder than a turbo engine. Better & louder exhaust sound
Absolutely loved the review. The hand cheese was priceless.
Cheers, Rock
Jason, you're awesome! Great review!!!
I have decided I won't have kids instead save to buy this 😁 should be worth it!
RUclipsr takes a 911 out and says "We'll go for a spin"....
love this car - can't afford it
Definitely a future classic. Last of the NA engines GTS 👌 we salute you
Pdk model a future classic potential?
I love your program excellent content
👍👍
Hello Jason cool GTS how does it compare with the Carrera T.
Would you be better off buying the newer Carrera T or going for an older GTS.
All the best love the channel.
P.S when are you going to test drive the stunning Porsche GT can’t wait.
GTS for me
Great video cheers
LOVE the watch big lad!!! Keep it real! 👍 👌 🇬🇧 🤜 🤜 🤜 ✌️ ✌️
I think the S is the best value for performance. The second level trim of ANY car is usually the sweet spot. Go higher and you're just handing money to the manufacturer for not much gain.
I have a problem, one of my friends will sale to me BMW E92 M3 and 2016 Porsche 991.1 GTS which one is better to own? please help me to choice, thanks
Finally someone who agrees with me about Alcantara it reminds we of that guy off the singing detective - cringeworthy. It was clear you were minimising touching that wheel the whole time 👍🤪
Sibat 777 leather all the way 👍
NCB “whole*” is the more common way to correct spelling just an FYI
singing detective, psoriatic arthropathy, chronic skin and joint disease...
I am having one ASAP!!
Great honest review. Would you take this over the Carrera T you drove in a previous episode?. They would appear to be similar money.
Yes I certainly would
991.2 GTS combines elements of the 991.1GTS and the Carrera T with even more torque low down - acceleration in day to day driving even more accessible (provided you are above 2,500 rpm!).
A comparison between the gen 1 and gen 2 would be cool as one is na and the other turbo charged.
Great idea, would be a very interesting test
Finally a real Porsche. And my favorite combination of NA engine and manual! Thank you
No problem, Woody
Great review.
Lovely car, but is that a Tudor Blackbay 58 Pepsi GMT I doth see on thy wrist?
Ha! Yes. I spotted that before 6:40 👌
well spotted!
Not a BB58 but definitely a cracking BB GMT.
Great video as always!! Looks more like a Coke (red/black) on my phone 🙂
Karmin red is really special. Love that color on a Porsche!
Carmine?
@@TheCarGuysTV Yes. Carmine red or Karminrot in German. Like it better than Guards red which in my opinion is a bit too bright and flashy. For me Carmine red somehow adds depth and character to a Porsche more than most other colors available. And if you spec the rest of the car right together with that color option you get a very attractive yet sophisticated car. Maybe for you to consider if you ever decide to buy another new Porsche.
Please do this with the new GTS Jason 🙏🏼
My God . My dream. If only I could afford this
Sounds like an amazing all rounder!
Is there any different with the 991.2? I really like the GTS in 911 it feels just nice and fast enough. Its a good car .This wil be My Goal list 🤩
991.2 is 3L t win turbo so yes, very different. They traded the full panoramic driving experience for more power and now the car is not balanced. That means it no longer carries magic
That steering wheel is disgusting, leather forever, great car, excellent review cheers jas
Daniel Thomas Alcantara is good for track only.
gtb5 agree mate , on the track gloves are the usual so alcantara is OK cheers...
1:17 actually the GTS is at the top of the Carrera line, not in the middle. Those above it are the GT and Turbo/Turbo S models; part of the 911 line.
Agree with you on the sport plus
Anyone knows if manual 992 has an ON/OFF auto rev match switch like the one on the new Speedster? Highly doubt that though, most likely it will be just as the same design as 991 manual, ie auto rev match is mandatory on Sport/Sport +.
Next time try a 997 gts and let us know what you think
Can’t wait for the 992 gts
Tudor for BMW drivers. Rolex for Porsche drivers
New 718 boxster 4.0 gts
Or
991.1 gts?
