Mat has got his hands on the all-new 992.2 generation Porsche 911!
He’s flown over to Spain to put the all-new 911 through its paces, and while it may only be a mid-life facelift, there are a handful of updates which will set it apart from its predecessors.
For starters, this is the first Porsche 911 to come with hybrid technology included! It may only feature in the GTS T-hybrid edition for now, but it easily delivers a serious performance punch for this new sports car! It’s equipped with a 3.6-litre flat-six turbo that can put down 541hp and 570Nm - 61hp & 40Nm more than its predecessor!
As for how the hybrid system works? Well, you’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself!
In terms of other changes, the exterior is relatively similar to the previous car. The indicators are now integrated into the headlights, and there are fins within the front bumper that can open and close to allow for better airflow for cooling. The side profile is pretty much identical to the previous edition, while at the back you’ll find centrally mounted exhaust pipes, along with a redesigned light bar.
Step inside and the interior is classic Porsche, although there’s one big change - the driver's display is now fully digital! It’s the first time the 911 doesn’t have an analogue rev counter, but it’s not all bad - there are loads of displays to choose from, and the positioning of the display means the steering wheel shouldn’t block your view.
Here’s the thing though - it doesn’t come cheap! If you want to pick up the hybrid edition of the GTS, expect to spend £139,000! And that’s before you’ve added any options! So is it worth it? Mat’s about to find out…

What is worse than them getting rid of the paddle starter is that they used something that looks like it came out of a $15,000 economy car. They couldn't be bothered to give us a sporty-looking start button, and the buttons themselves were absolutely pulled from a budget vehicle.
Looks VW Jetta
Oh no, the horror! They used a button to start the car like any other car on the market?!?! A button which you would only use twice every time you get in the car? How dare they?

It’s death by one thousand cuts with Porsche. The 991.2 was peak 911.
Agree
Manual coupe 2wd GTS
We could have this argument all day and night! Some say it’s the 991.1 or the 997.2 or the 993! Some say air-cooled, some say water-cooled and some normally aspirated and others turbo charged. There is no real right answer as it depends on what you’re looking for from a 911 and it is so many things to so many people. I don’t think there’s ever been a bad one, forget reliability there, but from a driver’s perspective, it still has a lot of the characteristics of the older cars and is so recognisable on the road, which is what makes it so iconic. I love my 991.1 for its howling engine, but the turbo 991.2 and 992.1s are great fun too.
Agree totally.
Porsche's design has been going downhill for a while. Used to rely on flowing, organic shapes... but for years now they've been trying to introduce angular sharp lines everywhere and it doesn't work.
The flowing, organic shapes make for future classics... those are designs here to stay.... while most of the angular stuff is briefly cool and then loses all its appeal and becomes just lame.
NO💀
It’s really as good as it gets for a hybrid. 1595kg is acceptable in 2024.
Especially compare to new M5 😂😂😂
Porsche just found the right way of hybridisation.
Better performance, better fuel efficiency, still good weight distribution.
But the start button is definitely a betrayal of 911 tradition

Welcome to Porsche
1500 is not much. And color is importantly. So no problem
All colors should be the same price. In the auto body world, all colors costs the same with the exception of 3 stage. How does Porsche justify their PTS pricing. Just because it didn’t come standard doesn’t mean it should cost thousands more.
As I understand it, the motor/generator sandwiched in the turbo actually replaces the wastegate, using that otherwise wasted energy to recharge the hybrid system while it regulates boost. Pretty slick!
There's a lot of hate around electrification but I'm just thankful we still get an ICE in the latest 911
its great Porsche is going plug in hybrid. people can get used to using sockets
Well in this car the electrification mostly aids performance with little MPG improvement. Personally I'm really happy about it because it fixes the thing I hate most about turbo Porsches which is lag. The discrepancy between the 0-60mph vs the 5-60mph times are often more than a second which I hate. One of the main reasons I always disliked turbo Porsches. Some version's have less lag but it's always at least a little. The NA H6 on the other hand are perfect and symphonic. This electrification should mostly eliminate the lag which is what I've wanted in turbo cars forever.
electric cars aren't panning out the way Ingsoc wanted. i don't think it will go anytime soon

That doesn't make sense
@@lukabosnjak3829 no, the old GTS was the 4WD model, the red one was RWD
@@lukabosnjak3829 oh look the insecure tesla owner wishing to have a porsche has arrived. Porsche first ever EV attempt was the 2020 taycan. In their first ever attempt they had a faster car then tesla who had been doing EVs since 2007. In 2020 the taycan was the fastest EV on the planet beating the fastest tesla at the time. Then in late 2021 tesla had to add an entire extra motor in the tri motor plaid and it beat the taycan turbo s in a straight line but lost around nurumbring. Now porsche has created a new platform and motors in the 2024 taycan turbo s and turbo gt but didn't need to add an extra. Instead retained a lightweight 2 motor setup making it the fastest track sedan on the planet and destroying every plaid lap time on every track its been on. Theirs a video already out of the taycan turbo gt beating the plaid in a straight line aswell. Imagine what 3 of porsches new motors would do if they only cared about straight line speed.. it would be a mid 8s car and easily the fastest car in a straight line. Beating the lucid and everyone. But they also care about handling and braking. Nonetheless the new turbo s and gt are the best all around performance EVs on the market. Go cry u can't afford a real luxury premium brand and enjoy ur basic traffic tesla 😂

I like to sit high in my 997.2 C2S so I can see the bonnet and infamous headlights. It helps on narrow country roads too. I even changed my wipers to flat aero blade for even more 911 in my face!
The first thing I noted in the 3d technical illustration is that the battery is mounted in front, very on the upper side for easy reach in case of maintenance or substitution. I'd like to know how much is it to get it changed outside warranty since it seems the only "consumable" there.

Can you do an update on the forth coming GT2RS Matt?
I dont like the start button im gonna miss their key turn because it feels more crisp doesnt feel like its gonna be a potential failure like a stupid button feels like and its a lot easier to keep power to battery on and start up because there is no latency in a key system like there is with a button hope it comes with a manual still
what on earth are you talking about, failure, latency 🤣. No manual, can't with a hybrid
atleast you won't miss hybrid
@davidkn you can run a hybrid drive train with a manual. The ferrari 296 could be done with a manual if they chose to. Also if you haven't used the buttons to turn on accessories, then try to start or put the brake and hit button at same time you will notice a latency and if you have to hit button twice it increases that latency it's extremely noticeable in cars like the land rover defender or civic type r, with the defender if you put it in park and then hit the button right after then it won't turn off because the delay to register park, civic type r takes ages to start if you had accessories on and I don't mean slow crank I mean delay before starter goes. Honestly, a manual hybrid would be sick because no one would stall them because you would have torque to get you going if it was linked to the flywheel or crank and if it was an electric motor separated to do a awd system it could get you going before you dump clutch like the lmp1/prototypes.
@@davidknyou can have a manual hybrid it just isn't common. Honda had it down to a T 20 years ago but for some reason decided not to continue to give the option even though most of their hybrids sold were in fact manuals
