I think Merc are saying "trust us to shift faster than you can". As a former racer I'm pretty good at quick shifts, but in this car (I have one) I find that it is much faster to put it in a Sport mode and let it do the shifting (as a PDK would do). When I tried Manual shift mode I found that if I was just a split second late (too close to redline), it would hit the limiter which cost me far more time than having the car do the shifting (which it does very, very well). So as much fun as it is to go full Manual, better times come from Sport/Auto. And it does a great job as you are decelerating too, blipping the throttle and downshifting with some lovely snap, crackle and pop. All of that said, the paddles are still, always working. The predecessor had rwd and a trans axle transmission, differing strongly from the SL, which had it's transmission bolted to the engine, like every standard Mercedes with longitudinal engine placement. The transaxle gave the old GT a rear-biased weight distribution. And that weight was lower because it was a pure sports car without awd-option. Making it closer to a 911 and ferrari-competitor. So yes, it is a loss, that the new one is basically just a SL-Coupe with a front-heavy weight closer to Bentley-Coupes.

Audi TT??? This is a V8 car on a high end platform. Not a RS3 with a different body
@@tb.mk4349 what I see is not a real big GT, it’s more like SL.. what it is in fact, no matter what the engine inside..
When did they mention it's a competitor to the TT? Also why would they compete with a discontinued car model?
@@BigMax- it is a competitor of the 911, so not meant like a big gt?
YOOOOO HARDTOP SL
that's supposed to be a bad thing?
The predecessor had rwd and a trans axle transmission, differing strongly from the SL, which had it's transmission bolted to the engine, like every standard Mercedes with longitudinal engine placement.
The transaxle gave the old GT a rear-biased weight distribution. And that weight was lower because it was a pure sports car without awd-option. Making it closer to a 911 and ferrari-competitor.
So yes, it is a loss, that the new one is basically just a SL-Coupe with a front-heavy weight closer to Bentley-Coupes.
@@helmutgottanka9482 loss from someone who wants a sports car. Not from someone who wants a V8 mercedes, for road usage.
It‘s not necessarily a bad thing, just really different, so you either like this, or the previous concept.
@@v12-s65 sl by far best daimler series ever but that doesnt mean we want things to be a bodykit for sl
IWC “Top Gun” chronograph? Nice, and on-brand.
It's all great, but it doesn't have the front mid engined layout anymore what a shame
The new AMG GT looks stunning, but those fake vents and diffusers had me fooled for a second. Even with all the cool features, I’ll have to admire it from afar because affording this beauty is another story.
The 992.2 lost its nice rear end, now I know where it went to, the AMG GT. Nice job Mercedes!
