Great stuff Coach. I’m a scratch player but very streaky and could never figure out why. All my coaches have focused on the hip clearing or right shoulder under left rather than this simple idea of lowering lead shoulder left on downswing. Creates a lovely punch flight with compression.
Very well done, simple and concise. My issue is my lower back can only do so much. Would love a video on how to play with limited motion. I see all these videos with Nelly Korda but I am not a 24 year old girl so I can’t replicate her swing. Love the channel coach!
I did not know your site. I love the way you teach ,clear and precise with details that make a real difference. I ‘’ go and watch your other videos and want to thank you for allowing us to progress.
I tried this to get rid of my shanks and it worked! My shoulder turn was level but I wasn't lifting up. This made my swing very in to out. By getting my shoulder moving down on the backswing it straightened out my swing path. Strikes and direction improved and no more shanks. Thanks coach.
Yep, I see several versions of my "technique" here. Taking two good tips from this. Will help eliminate a couple dumb swing thoughts I've tried that really seem to just confuse me. Thank you, sir!
Great video! First time viewer to your channel. Yes, I hit the subscribe button 😊. After watching this video I watched the handshake video. It's the perfect segue to this video IMO. If you really extend your hand it automatically engages the left obliques and starts pinching your left bicep to your left peck. The left knee bends and it gets you loaded onto your right side. I suggest standing in front of a mirror with your left shoulder just even with the left edge. When you do either of the drills, you can see the proper movement. Sorry to be so wordy but I think it can help others like myself. Thanks again.
Thanks Mat. I probably have video this video about 3 times….. LOL! But during today’s viewing I had a lightbulb moment! Now I can’t wait 2 take it 2 the Range! Thanks Again!
Thanks Lockey. So clearly explained. Half of 3 . . . My natural tendency is to sway to the right, which I focus on avoiding. Oherwise my backswing is ok, but I have to think about breaking an old habit of starting my downswing with my trail shoulder, which levels them out and ruins my path. I can do it correctly, but I think this might be a better way to get the right feeling, so off to the range! 👍🏻
Nice… Good breakdown Coach! I’m probably one of those who have moved the shoulders up every so often. This imagery is helpful to me just to understand that movement of the lead shoulder as I unload and pivot with that lead leg.
Just found this video and this helps massively - been practicing my lead shoulder going down and under and staying in posture BUT I have been trying to stay on that left line as thought might give me consistent low point. Obviously wrong, lol - give this a go over the range. Cheers, Coach 👍
I have been following you and find I can do good shoulder turn with much straighter results. thanks. but not the distance as the follow through is not being completed as I loss balance any help gratefully received.
I like that Coach. With it being my 70th birthday next year I'm not as bendy as I once was. I've always felt my shoulders don't turn as much as they should. Probably because I was trying incorrectly. Range day tomorrow, I'll give it a go 👍
Hi, I m having the exact same problem you mentioned in the video, which is lead shoulder moving up during the impact. I know the problem, but I have been trying to fix it for a year. Any drill or exercise recommended to fix that?
Some interesting stuff there. I hadn't heard of the idea of pointing the left shoulder down towards the ball, until quite recently. I've never tried it; and, never will. It is said that it is an old Arnold Palmer idea. But, i would suspect that he only did this with his driver; and, that his height etc. was perfectly suited to this method. The key thing for you to learn is that it should be possible to hang your arms by your side; and, make a full turn without actively turning your body or shoulders, whilst staying focused on the ball. This is how the pivot; and, the swing coil, are created in the actual swing. But, with regard to the shoulder movement in the downswing, you are quite right to say that the shoulder should not move up. But, this is how pga professionals taught us to swing up until 30 years ago. I campaigned to stop them from doing this. Primarily, because it can dislocate the shoulder. But, by pressing down with the left shoulder you are only succumbing to the laws of enantidromia. And, this, too, will cause injury to the shoulder. And, really, your focus should be on pressing down with the left side of your head. But, there should be no real need to do this in the full swing, as the left side of the head has to press down, towards the top of the backswing, to complete the backswing; and, it, therefore, will press down in the downswing, if you trigger the downswing corectly. But, this is not by doing anything with the feet, or legs, or hips, or body, or shoulders.
Just found your channel. Excellent information and clear communication. Coach, since this lesson is geared for an iron swing, would the lead shoulder STILL moves down toward the left foot on the downswing for the DRIVER? since the set up is different for the driver. Thank you for your wonderful coaching.
I actually had this takeaway from your pitching lesson you posted, instead focusing on squatting it's easier to focus on the shoulder since it is part of your upper body, if that makes sense.
Hi, I am confused with this video. I too have incorrect shoulder rotation and think my instinct is to try get the right shoulder coming downwards on the way back to the ball. I can't see how I get the left shoulder down. Is it trying to move the right shoulder down that pushes you into the left foot or a squating motion that brings the left shoulder down, what is the correct sequence?
I am number 2. I have had a bad shoulder lift up at the top of my backswing for years. How do I fix this? Club across my shoulders drill does not work for me. Hopefully you can help!
Omg, this video seems to be an absolut game changer for me. I made a couple of Videos from my golf swing but my left shoulder was always a Problem (most of the time topping the ball or thinn shots as a result i think) But after watching this video i tried it instantly and wow… omg it felt so much easier to hit the ball/ground, where i wanted to hit it. I had to laugh, because it felt so much better 😄 Thank you so much for sharing this information ❤
Thanks for the quick response on my heel shots. Makes perfect sense especially since I rarely take a divot also. I will give it a try. Thanks again. Ralph G.
I read ben hogan’s book when i was a kid ( thanks, dad ?? Hmmm), I didn’t have enough “ reps” or life experience to fully implement his 5 tips.. one thing that has plagued me is his description of the “ plane” - i try to keep my shoulders on a plane but what i sm really doing is lifting my shoulders ( picture shoulder shrugs) - i am trying to consciously keep my shoulders relaxed & far from my ears throughout ( and i am killing the ball) but I am worried that I am now flat like you described ?!
Hi Coach. My club always exits at about my shoulder level. Yours seems to exit much lower. Is this caused by my shoulder rising instead of lowering in the downswing? Thanks. Ralph G.
I would like mine higher but I have super quick hips which effects my hand path. I would stick with what you got unless you struggle with heel strikes a lot.
It will change the high and low of your swing arc, which will influence low point. So when and how you push back up after the squat will depend on where you contact the ground. If you see a particular pattern which isn’t a good strike, fats/thins, move ball position to accommodate 👍
Your shoulder is going where your sternum is going, this would be a better focal point for moving the shoulder. The shoulder has some wiggle room in regard to the torso and people can try to jerk shoulders around which does not seem very helpful.

I have NEVER commented on anything on RUclips EVER! But as a golfer, this may be the greatest video I have ever seen. GAME CHANGER! Thanks!
Wow, thanks!
Working on better shoulder turn on down swing. Yes please.

Great video and very helpful visual of the shoulder movement. I would love to know if the lead shoulder path is different with driver vs. Iron.

That’s a brilliant very helpful video. A video on that last tip too please 😂. When I swing shit
I do those faults.

Very informative video.
Thank you!
What starts backswing? Lead shoulder or hands low?
coach i do them all and some, any ideas enjoy your views

Same feels and movement. Bigger move down if you want more speed 💪
My back swing is mistake number 2 and 3. Thanks for the tips

Thanks. I have always struggled with heal strikes. So, how do I get. my hands to exit lower. Thanks. Ralph G.
Thanks for the quick response on my heel shots. Makes perfect sense especially since I rarely take a divot also. I will give it a try. Thanks again. Ralph G.
This is something I struggle with Mattt, I tend to turn my shoulders level on the way back at times and that's when I don't play very good
I read ben hogan’s book when i was a kid ( thanks, dad ?? Great video on all aspects of the left shoulder/turn.
Glad it was helpful!
Just found your channel. Some great pointers. That's me, flat shoulder turn.
Hi im Jack im a lefty-my issue is pulling off the ball causing my left shoulder to over take the swing causing over the top pulls- help! Please
❤

Finally a solution to my golf swing problems. Tqvm
Would love to see more detail on how to get the lead shoulder moving down at the beginning of downswing.
Squat baby squat 🔥
I'm definitely number 2. Very little hip turn and I have a problem getting the feeling of my left shoulder moving down on the downswing.
Brilliant!!!!! Huge help
Great lesson, thank you!
My pleasure!
Great for low point consistency
Very good video, thank you!
You are welcome!
I finally got it, thank you!
I mostly have my chin inside left shoulder with shoulder lined up with my left knee and foot.
All well and good until you get to the long clubs. Driver isn't going to be the same, is it?
When you squat down does this change the low point of your swing

All goood stuff, lot easier said than done 😁
thanks matt
Thanks!
You bet!
yep definitely guilty of 1 and 3. great tips
Glad you liked it!
Topman Lockey💪
Excellent video, thank you coach Lockey.
Glad you liked it!
Love the slo-mo
Noted! Thanks for watching.

Except the shoulder leads … and its better to focus on what leads rather than what follows
@@IverKnackerov Ribcage can easily resist shoulder pull
Thanks tip no three is for me
Welcome 😊
Out of the three...I think I do them all...sometimes shots will will go straight right...very embarrassing..
That trace is very useful. The golfer has to trace the mirror image of it.
I see the lockey army has been watching dad's army!
Lower your lead shoulder, hands come away from the body and watch it fly off the hosel.
Now you get to watch another video on how to stop the shanks 👌
I'm 2 and 3. I would be number 1 too if I could bend that far 😥
I do 2 and 3. Not ideal.
Why not point out to students that to keep the left shoulder down a bit longer off the top to keep the butt back throughout the downswing
This is THE secret move.
The word turn has ruined so many golfers
Thanks coach, will try this down the driving range. Well explained, even a muppet like me can understand this.
I’m number three
No wonder people get confused.
I am more of number 3 case
Armyyyyy
Best not to do that close up thing. Creepy and unnecessary
I like it 👍
I don't want you showing us all the stuff we don't want to see. Just show what you consider what we should be seeing.
Get to the point of the lesson.Pontificate too much.
Sorry
@@CoachLockeyno need to be sorry! Perfect lesson and feedback friendly
