I know I said it in the video but it’s truly unbelievable. Great couple of guys behind the brand too - hope to see them grow bigger in the coming years.
Great video and reviews. I've got a Heat Straps V1 Deck Jacket on order... you should also give one of their Woolen Work jackets a try. They are also quite nice!
You’re gonna love it when it comes in! I honestly still can’t believe it every time I put it on. The woolen stuff looks amazing - I’ve got my eye on that buffalo plaid lumber jacket too
Good video. I like that heat straps jacket had I not already bought a deck jacket shortly prior to its release I would’ve bought it but I don’t see a need for myself to have two deck jackets.
Any deck jacket is still a great pickup! I get what you mean though, tough to justify the redundancy. I’d love a lighter weight secondary option in a dream scenario but I’m extremely happy with this one.
I live in Hamburg New York right by lake Erie close to Buffalo and in two weeks we had three snow storms. First was four feet second was a foot and yesterday was three feet. My peacoat keeps me warm for shoveling and freezing temps. It was 15 degrees last night while I was shoveling and I was never cold with a peacoat.
Great video. My Flint & Tinder trucker is my favorite jacket, I almost bought the rancher recently but a lot of reviews indicated it was loose in the waist etc. It doesn't look like it from this video?
Haven’t had that experience at all! Aside from the length I think it’s a pretty similar fit overall - just cut slightly larger to accommodate the insulation/quilting
I'm in chicago so I mostly have down parkas or technical insulated jackets just to keep the weight lower. I've been eyeing weatherwool for awhile though, I figure If I'm going wool, go all the way lol. The quilted trucker jacket is interesting, I have an older 2018 Flint and Tinder jacket that had the 100% cotton herringbone flannel lining, its nice to see they are getting back to non-synthetic lining. Though for winter I dunno if I'd do one with a button closure only, unless it was folded over like a peacoat. I have an old Peacot from Canvas by Land's End (their old premium line) that one is a nice old school constructed one, pure heavy melton wool and viscose lining, they don't make them like that any more.
Weatherwool definitely seems amazing, hoping to get my hands on one sometime down the road. Your peacoat sounds solid though, similar details to the dreadnaught!
I have the tripleaught puffer with a similar set up and really like it. I think some of the vintage militiary jackets can be great affordable finds and the remakes can be great jackets too
Im thinking of ordering that deck jacket if i cant get the V9 work horse jacket thats due to be released. It gets cold enough here in Minnesota to justify it.
Definitely on the high end, I talked about it a bit at the end and have a few other options to check out in the description too. Really incredible materials and craftsmanship with these though - always comes at a cost.
No problem! Tough to be accurate with how thick the fabric is, but pit to pit measures about 26” on the one I got. Wears way smaller than it sounds though, I’ve got a 42” chest and definitely wouldn’t want it any smaller.
Mine is pretty much spot on without much spare room for layering. It should settle and loosen up as the shell breaks in but fit was a bit smaller than I was anticipating based on the measurements. Large would have been too big for me though, happy with this size - I have a 42-43” chest.
The pea coat looks wonderful but I can’t stand wearing anything lined with Cupro, basically a cotton derived rayon, sweaty and cold at the same time in my experience.
I get that - I think I’d be in long sleeves wearing this anyway and definitely appreciate the easier on/off, but probably wouldn’t feel great on skin for everybody.
@@joshfenn Not really talking about skin feel (that would be even worse) but more the lack of breathability, I find it just turns any jacket into a plastic bag.
That Heat Straps jacket is one of those products that looks great on paper, but totally impractical in reality. Too bulky and thick to be useful. If you’re going to be outside long enough when it’s cold enough to need something this thick and warm, you don’t want a jacket that short either.
I definitely get what you mean, but I still think there’s a case for it. The bulk will settle down a lot as the jacket breaks in - I felt that way about my 7oz canvas trucker when it was new and it’s practically a different jacket years later. The length isn’t ideal for the arctic or anything but potentially useful for ‘normal’ scenarios like driving and sitting and not having to deal with a longer coat. Not a jacket for everyone by any means - but not as limiting as it may seem the longer I wear it.
Yep, it’s waxed canvas so it’s not breathable like jungle cloth used in traditional N-1s so you basically have to stay out in the cold in the heat straps jacket. There’s a lot of of hype with the Heat Straps guys, “ a couple of firefighters from NJ”, what’s their experience level with jacket patterns? Materials and construction seems good but for that money, I rather go with established makers like dehen 1920. Made in USA in waxed canvas deck jacket in a more practical weight
Material cost gets steep with some of these high end options unfortunately. Found a really solid alternative from LL Bean for a bit less that I linked in the description though if it fits the budget better!
What about Ship John ? What about Tin Duck denim ? What about Freenote cloth ? What about Filson ? What about iron and resin ? Ya didn’t touch any of the actual top of the line jacket makers !? ❤😂
Tons of incredible options out there, it’d be impossible to cover every one in a single video. That being said, I did mention I’d share some alternatives in the description and have several of those brands linked to check out also
Definitely a ‘best of the best’ type of list - I found a few alternatives for most of the styles and linked them below if you want to take a closer look. The iron and resin deck jacket and ll bean peacoat both look pretty great for a good amount less if it fits the budget better
That Heat Straps just became my dream jacket
I know I said it in the video but it’s truly unbelievable. Great couple of guys behind the brand too - hope to see them grow bigger in the coming years.
Another fire video from Josh. My dude, keep them coming. Love it.
Thanks so much!
The the history you’re laying into this. 🇺🇸💪🏼
Had so much fun researching! Always good to do the deep dives when there’s so much good info available.
My Jackets for this Winter is the Iron Heart Deck jacket and a Mister Freedom Denim Peacoat..
The iron heart n1 looks so great! Always sells out so fast in my size too - congrats on the pickup! I’ll have to take a look at that Peacoat too
Great video and reviews. I've got a Heat Straps V1 Deck Jacket on order... you should also give one of their Woolen Work jackets a try. They are also quite nice!

Glad the peacoat is working so well for you, buffalo weather is no joke! Reminds me of winters in Michigan’s U.P.

I live in Florida but still loved this video lol props to your skills
Haha thanks!
Love your content bro! But how did none of the Carhartt jackets make this list? Wild.
There’s always next year! Would love to get a Detroit jacket sometime - always impossible to fit everything I want into a single video.
I have the tripleaught puffer with a similar set up and really like it.
I think some of the vintage militiary jackets can be great affordable finds and the remakes can be great jackets too
For sure! Some great vintage finds if your patient - I saw quite a few great options around when I was researching
Im thinking of ordering that deck jacket if i cant get the V9 work horse jacket thats due to be released. It gets cold enough here in Minnesota to justify it.
Minnesota is definitely an ideal spot for it! I would have loved this when I lived in Michigan.
Great video loved the history you included with the coats.
Also keep up the good work you are a good a@$ guy🙏🏼
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it!
Toss a like as the pace & history makes me feel ive learn something
Appreciate the support on this one, glad you enjoyed it!
Overland sheepskin has got some really interesting bomber jackets with detachable fleece hoodies
I’ll check them out, thanks for the rec!
Super Video. Really like all these jackets. But the prices of them. Nuts.
Definitely on the high end, I talked about it a bit at the end and have a few other options to check out in the description too. Really incredible materials and craftsmanship with these though - always comes at a cost.
Do you still have the heat straps deck jacket? Can you please measure the pit to pit? Also, what's your chest size? Thanks!

I want them to put that fur in their standard jackets.
I think they made a mouton lined workhorse jacket before - maybe they’ll do more down the road
@joshfenn ordered a heat straps V2 in medium, but i feel like i should've went large.. How much room do you have in it?

well i learned about jackets today
Hopefully this is positive, haha.

Where’s the vest from?
I don’t own any vests - do you have a timestamp? I can take a closer look and see
@ my bad, my app must’ve glitched. Wrong video.

Very nice peacoat
My winter jacket here in Honolulu is a 25 year old 'Gap' flannel shirt.
Probably all you need down there, glad it’s working for you.

Don't say 'colorway' outside of a professional setting. It sounds pretentious.
It’s a pretty normal word, not sure how it’s pretentious but okay.
@joshfenn I assure you no one outside of You Tube reviewers says 'colorway' instead of just 'colors'
I didnt expect to feel so poor after checking these links 🥲
