Bought the Seiko 5 Dress KX for my 40th birthday this year and I can’t say enough good things about it…provided you put it on a leather strap 😂! Honorable mention to Vaer, got their S3 Tradition in quartz for under 200 USD and it’s absolutely delightful to wear!
Love the picks, you can't go wrong yes the Erebus too lol. Some picks from my collection - Casio Oceanus, and the Citizen Fujitsubo "barnacle" which pushes the budget but is pretty great.
I own a lot of watches and the most expensive watch I ever bought (a citizen) cost $300usd including tax and shipping. I would typically spend $75-$150usd on any typical watch. Given how happy I am in this price range of mostly divers, I never felt the need or had the desire to spend more on a watch. Most recent purchase was an unbranded tandorio skx copy with an outstanding purple sunburst fume dial on jubilee bracelet. An absolutely stunning watch with a super beautiful dial few could outmatch.
The main purpose of this video is clearly for him to plug his own watch brand, so he's probably chosen this selection to make his Erebus models seem better value in comparison. It doesn't support your point that he's been ignoring Citizen for the entirety of the last 5 years. He's covered heaps of them individually, like the Tsuyosa, and has heaped praise on Citizen as a brand - he literally said a high-end Citizen was his new favourite watch in his collection, recently. Your contention just isn't true.
yesterday I took ownership of my cheapest ever watch under $30 Aussie and it's amazing. It is called the POEDAGAR .It is obviously a Patek Phillipe homage in emerald green Fume. I just need to have it sized as I am unfamiliar with push pins link adjustments, so yeah one from left field.
Hello Jody, I am missing the Seagall 1963 Mechanical Chronograph in your list.Great value for money and additionally an interesting movement with a good story.
Excellent video as always Jody. I understand why you didn't include them, but my favorite sub $500 watches in my collection are my 2 Helms, and my steel dive, Capt. Willard.
I suppose it's tricky to narrow down to the top 20! Orient Kamasu is possibly worth a mention, that's a lot of watch for the money. Speaking of which, I love my Ascent. Thanks Jody!
I picked the black Arnie and a 43mm Lunar Pilot this year, both excellent. I'm kind of done with watches right now and have gone back to F1 diecasts for a change.
A well considered list as ever Jody. Bulova Jet Star and Super Seville high accuracy 262hz lines with their super smooth seconds hands, both around 38mm, deserve a mention. And I’d suggest that Citizen is now eating Seiko’s lunch when it comes to great value autos in the Tsuyosa and Sport lines under $500 in particular (Seiko’s SRPs are ridiculously optimistic these days too 😅). “Hand-assembled in France” and “not need service for a long time” are two phrases you never expect to hear together 😂 Happy Christmas 😊
Great list! The Bulova Lunar Pilot is my beater/hold over watch and I really want a Arnie… also the Brew has caught my eye. Really interesting list and great watches.
The Steinhart OVM is just over 400 usd…it’s a great tribute to a vintage Rolex that you can’t find unless you pay 6 figures. It’s Swiss made and just solid, especially for the price
@@Wintermute-088he doesn’t need an excuse to do that lol. He has multiple videos where that’s all he does. He only spent like 30 seconds mentioning Erebus in this
@@samizdat4443 Yeah, but it was still the main purpose of the video. If he sells one Erebus from that plug, the video has paid for itself far more than it would from just as revenue or affiliate links. His job now is to sell Erebus.
That was a really great slogan in initial form on your t-shirt. As much as a G Shock is a fantastic watch for adventure I do like the Hamilton much better. A great range of watches. Could you please just put a shot of AUD in the video too. New subscriber here. Need to check out your store.
Would love to see a video about buying watches online. The different options in terms of the gray market, official brand sites, buying second hand Vs new, warranty issues, etc.
I bought a Hamilton Murph style strap for my black enamel Ascent today (in the UK), looks awesome 😁 The guy in the jewellers was excited to see an Ascent irl for the first time and we chatted about Erebus. The word is spreading!
I'd like to see a round up of solar powered watches. Maybe by categories: diver, dress, chrono and daily wear. What's that four presentations? Just asking for a month's worth of work. 😉
Love your content, Jody. You mentioned many times that solar watches never need a battery change. This just isn’t true. I blame Citizen for putting it in their marketing (if I’m remembering correctly), as much as I adore my Eco Drives. I’ve had to replace three rechargeable batts in my older Citizens after about a decade or so. Just food for thought, I guess. Not trying to be a whatever😄
Metal G-Shocks are a fave! I have an all gold model and a silver on resin strap. And of course my MR-G will always hold a special place in my collection, as it came via my support of Jody and the sh%$ charity box rally !
I struggle with Seikos on this list with the Chinese making better Seikos than Seiko for a fraction of a Seiko. The date on the Irish Coffee killed the symmetry of the dial.
Have you seen the valimor watches. Im thinking about if im realy gonna wanna have one or just think they look cool. I have not realy worn watches before and my wrists are quite small. Im dont think im gonna wear it every day more on special ocations and if i wanna dress up? I also seem to realy enjoy moast diver watches at least on pictures. Now i beleve my old G-shock witch also was analog and digital so i thought it just ran on batteries but mby it can catch the light inside cuz its still running like 8 years on counters or in drawers. I never got along to wearing it cuz it felt to bigg and did look good cuz it looks to taktical and dont realy fitt with any cloathes
Affordable Citizen > Affordable Seiko imo. I bought my wife a Tsuyosa for under $300 USD and it truly is awesome for the price. Feels better than Seiko Presage models I have owned. Surprised Citizen didn't make the cut here
Ik ppl prolly get tired off hearing ppl suggest Casio since the budget is so high but I recently got the a168 and I recommend it. Despite it obviously being a cheap watch, it still looks really good and feels like a “real” watch compared to the Casio royale.
I want to pick up a Hamilton PSR, but I’m stuck between the green and red display. The red is obviously the OG, but the green is something a bit different for a watch that’s already a bit different.
I love the look of the Bulova Lunar Pilot. But man that bracelet... If a bracelet has no microadjust I am always screwed. Always too loose or too tight.
The Glycine Combat Sub is such a good watch it edited screenshots of itself over Seiko and Hamilton. At least it couldn't handle Laco.
Love the Glycine at 2:29 😂😅 and at 3:36 😂

Haven't checked on prices in a while, but Orient's Kamasu Chrono was an affordable, durable, and historically valuable offering this year.

The JDM model series NB1050 especially.

Citizen is overrated and shit
Promaster Diver should be on the list

San martin original designs definitely need to be here!. Great video Jody
For those who gave me crap about Jody's endless ignoring of Citizen, a few videos back... I give you Exhibit A.

Bought 6+ watches this year. Couple Vero’s, couple of Casio Edifice’s, Chameri, and a Pagani Design AirKing V2 currently on my wrist.
Nice collection although I agree a Citizen Tsuyosa or similar should have been included at the expense of 1 of the Hamiltons or Seikos.
Tsuyosa is a $250USD watch. It'll be in that video, and not this one. 😉

Great recommendations, one question, is Ashfords a reliable grey seller? Thinking of buying from them
As a seasoned watch addict, I can confirm that Ashford are legit. I have purchased many a watch from them. Always the real deal. I’m in Oz 🇦🇺 btw.
@cannotfinddevice Thanks for the heads up, appreciate it from Scotland!
