- All good things must come to an end, and podcasts are no exception. The Draftsmen podcast is coming to a close-- but that doesn’t mean Stan and Marshall’s friendship is! The realization that if I want to become a parent, I need to establish my career in entertainment arts first, and the DIY art school (it's my go to series to relisten). I'm soon to begin teaching basic drawing at college where I work; all thanks to your wonderful advice and examples of life. Really appreciated your company during lockdown. So long.

As someone who's only recently discovered this podcast, and has started at season 1 to listen from the beginning, this is a bummer! I've thoroughly enjoyed the information, advice, insight, and inspiration this has given me. I love the dynamics between the two of you, and it quickly became one of my favorite things to listen to.

This made me incredibly sad. Im hoping to find a similar podcast to this one, but I dont think anyone can compete with Marshall's voice & charm
The only other Podcast I can think is similar to Draftmen is Ninja Mountain Scroll podcast, they had a number of Fantasy and Scifi illiustratior who talk about the industry and their life experience. It has over 125 episode before it ended but sadly many have been lost during server migration. The artist Socar Myles is one of the host and is funny.
It was, indeed, the golden age of Stan and Marshall podcasts😪
Hopefully there will be an annual holiday special or something🤔

I only started seriously studying drawing two years ago, at the age of 28. Marshall and Stan have been like a compass and a north star to me. Thank you for all your wisdom!!!

You're both heros in every artist's journey. The therapeutic voice of Marshall and positive energy of Stan. There's no boring moment listening to both of you. . Draftsmen is the best.

A few episodes ago I noticed Marshall started to accidentally repeat his stories and the book review episode when Proko also started mixing up excerpts from the wrong books. That's when I realized the episodes were starting to become too similar and their time had come. It was a very life changing journey following you guys since the day the first episode aired till today.
I think every episode before this past few ones (excluding the controversial social justice episode) were very entertaining and have been my weekly source of epiphanies for so long. I have no favourites, but I do admit the last few episodes were a bit lacking in unique content and value.
If you guys ever want more content, you can always do more interviews, a lot more. Bring in abstract artists, children book authors and illustrators, graphic novel writers and illustrators. If you can bring in a curator and an animation director the ground is open for who can share their wisdom here. What's it like working in advertisement, an episode on notable art collaboration, politcal Art, working for the government, art journalism, industrial art, maybe some weird/interesting art movements no one has heard of. I see the lack of content as an opportunity to turn the podcast into a learning environment for you guys as well the listeners. Bringing in other artist just seems like the next logical step. But i understand if you guys have other projects you would prefer to put these efforts into.
I'm just saying, I don't believe 3 Seasons is nearly long enough to cover all there is to the visual arts.
Love the work you guys and the Proko Team have done for us, looking forward to see what next you guys have in store.
This is very similar to what happened with Rhett and link. They always tell the same stories and can’t remember anything from previous episodes. But people still watch and listen for the personalities, regardless of the topic. So while I know they aren’t officially ending the podcast, it would be great to see more than 1-2 episodes a year

They should hire this person if they decide to reboot the podcast. Lots of good ideas here.

I could see this coming for a while now. Theres only so much you can tell beginners about draftsmanship, and after a while, I've noticed overlap in the content, and the questions. I'd love to get a podcast where they just talk about nonsense, but I understand the need to move on.
I find myself going back into episodes all the time. Listening to this show helped me get back into art/drawing. Thank you for the help and all the content!
U don't have to end doing podcasts. just treat Draftsmen as a segment to a whole & begin a new segment (like Story podcasts, Perspective podcasts, Animation podcasts). Draftsmen is like a root to many branches of art creation. Just a suggestion.
Also invite other creatives to host segments that they feel are important for beginning/all creatives to know about. That way, u guys won't even have to be present necessarily. I forgot to add that part.
We won't have weekly content on this channel anymore but we are looking to turn it into an interview channel where we'll post all our interviews with artists
A cool take on the artist interviews would be if you traveled to important collections of Draftsmenship such as... Brandywine River Museum, Delaware Art Museum, Norman Rockwell Museum, Frazetta, etc. And observed and talked about art in those spaces, in front of the actual pieces, with your guests.
@@ZoungyArt that would be cool but highly unlikely since one of the reasons we're ending the podcast is to work on other projects and traveling to art museums would take a lot of work and time to coordinate.

This show has been a huge part of me rediscovering illustration, figure drawing, and creative arts through the pandemic. This podcast had perfect timing as the pandemic hit us all, in many ways you can see little echos of the impact through the episodes. I really look forward to revisiting it again a few years.

Never made a comment on a RUclips video before but I'd like to thank you Stan and Marshall for all that you've done for my ability to grow as an artist. I'm a wannabe stand up comic and I've been able to discern so much wisdom from the two of you over the seasons. You actually trained me to be able to see advice from other disciplines and apply it to my art/craft and I cannot thank you enough for that. Also I really love your whiteboard class Marshall and I love how you guys DO leave the discussions open enough to apply to multiple disciplines. Thanks a million

I've learnt so much from guest interviews, especially James Gurney. So if you're running out of stuff yo talk about, just doing interviews with inspirational artists would be sooo appreciated. I would love to see so mamy more people on here.

Really did not see this coming :// BUT gotta thank you guys, the guests, team behind it and the audience so so much for making this podcast one of my- THE MOST favorite one ever. The timing of me finding out about this podcast just really saved me from having a mid-life crisis. As an artist who just graduated this year, you guys have taught me what and how to learn with discipline, patience, and love. Thanks to you guys, I've been able to narrow down what path to choose which was my main issue. So once again, thank you everyone (even those who comment under) for shaping me into what I am today, and what I will become. Goodluck to all of you!!

I was really sad to hear the news. I discovered the podcast a couple of years ago (at the end of season 1 I think) and, besides all the things I have been learning from it, the podcast has been a wonderful companion, especially to survive the 8 hours of work, far from my easel. The discussions about art have been a true relief, a way to keep a "tiny toe" on it while I was away from it. The calm and positive mood of Marshall and Stan has been like a therapy. I hope we can hear more from you, maybe in other forms or projects. All the best to you!

Hi Marshall, I like the book reviews! Have so enjoyed and learned so much from both of you! Thank you Marshall and Stan! I took Marshall's Composition class this summer and absolutely loved it! Total mind expansion! Would love it to have Draftsman podcasts about every six weeks or so to be informed and keeping up on all of your observations, adventures, ideas in this great arty world! Will miss your weekly podcasts immensely, but onward and forward we must go!

For some reason I can read your comment on my notifications but not here, so I'm going to paste it here: "yes it's just another business closing for Stan, he never respected Marshall anyway. He's always Mocking whatever Marshall is saying."
I wouldn't say he never respected Marshall, but I think most people forget this was a business relation for both of them. Stan wanted to do a podcast to promote his brand and Marshall wanted exposure to attract students. I think they both succeeded and Marshall admits that the podcast has given him a lot of exposure and that he has more students now than he knows what to do with them. Now that doing the podcast requires commuting to a location it is possible that he simply has no interest in investing so much time, money and effort into it (pretty understandable, I would do the same). I would have never have heard of Marshall had it not been for the podcast and I can say that I will keep an eye out for whatever he decides to do next.
@@richirare That was just my knee-jerk reaction to the show having to come to an end. It's really sad because I always look forward to it every week, and Marshall was always so entertaining to listen to, I wish other podcasts or channels have him as their guest. Anyone with a similar wavelength and enthusiasm as him.

I really appreciated the Advice for Artists with Kids episode (S1ep23). It was the first time I'd heard someone say the ugly truth, which is that you can't commit to your kids and to your art in equal measure, that something has to suffer somewhere, be it your art-making or your quality as a parent. This hit home particularly hard as I stay home with my 2 kids while trying to start an art career, which simply isn't happening at this point. Hopefully in the future when they get a little older... It was heartening to hear professionals in the field validate and confirm that what I'm struggling against is genuinely difficult, that it's not just me. That episode helped me frame my goals to be an artist/parent as an invigorating challenge rather than something depressingly impossible. Thank you!! (To any interested comment-reader, the podcast Artist|Mother deals more specifically with these challenges and is definitely a worthwhile listen!)
I discovered this podcast about two years ago and since then my art and artistic knowledge have improved so much! I'm incredibly thankful for this podcast and appreciate your work. I always listen to "Draftsmen" when I draw or paint and it gives me inspiration to improve so I'm quite sad the podcast is ending :/
I want to say that your podcast really helped me out. Though it's not a drastic change, over the pandemic I went from programming to rigging within 3D animation. I have been doing studies and recreating the cartoons I grew up with from 2D to 3D. My mindset has calmed about art, I have less jealousy for those who are successful and more admiration. It's been inspiring listening to you two discuss philosophies and practicalities about art and you've been a major part of why I want to further my learning. I hope one day I can say hi at a convention, your podcast meant a lot to me.

As much as I enjoyed the chemistry between the two of you as you complemented each other wonderfully, I always thought it was a shame that Stan always came up short in the listener comments. I often felt that Marshall was far more respected (perhaps mainly because of his age), even though both had equally valuable experiences and interesting anecdotes to share.
I consider Stan to be an important anchor point in this constellation, often also questioning Marshall's views or asking him to explain statements more elaborately (He often expressed his doubts or criticism when I had a similar thought at the same moment). This kept your podcast always very tangible and understandable, which made the exchange of opinions so pleasant and enjoyable for me.
I will surely miss this regular rite, but I also have great respect for when showrunners decide to take a break from their podcast (for now) when they realize they're running out of anecdotes and stories. Thank you for your valuable contribution to the art community.

I'm so sad that this podcast is over. Stan and Marshall gave me a lot of art advice, you guys are shaping my mind to be an artist. I hope either Stan or Marshall will have a new podcast or something else that I can listen to. Anyway, my favorite Draftsmen episode is "The Do's And Don'ts Of Social Media For Artists" and my favorite Draftsmen memory is when Cooper made a short appearance in the episode "Showing Off, Saying No, and Marshall Gets a Prank Call". Aaw, bummer! I can completely understand that you both have other responsibilities to get to, and that if an end feels natural that you should go for it. Nooo, but I just found this podcast! Though I haven't seen a lot so far my favorite was your interview of James Gurney. Thanks for all the information you've shared over the past couple of years, it's great watching (and listening) to your wonderful banter.
I'm sad to hear this, but I understand the need to move on doing other things. However this podcast can be a nice catchup in the future when you have exciting insights to share from the interests you've been into since. I think this is the best art podcast I've listened to because of the insight depth coming from Marshall and Stan's dynamic, and how the ruminations cover both the past and present. Coming from a concept art for games background, it's nice for me to listen timeless opinions that give a more 360 view of art besides just consuming the current trends and technology. This wider net will truly help present and future artists alike and keep them gravitating towards what's important especially in this day and age where easy access to quantity can be overwhelming.
We'll see you again in the future! I hope you both enjoy your current endeavors!

The Talent Code episode was so enjoyable for me and reminded me of how it felt to listen to the beginnings of season 2 and 1.
There's such a wealth of information in this podcast, and it's just great to listen to two people talk who have such a wide range of experience.

When you mentioned that certain topics would be better suited as courses than podcasts, I had the thought that maybe in the future you both could do podcast-style conversations where you bring on Proko teachers and discuss some of the courses they've created and why. That sounds a little like blantant self-promotion, because, well... it is! And I think that the audience that listens to these podcasts would be some of the best targets to market to. Anyways, thank you both for everything and looking forward to your new projects in years to come!
thank you for giving the Leo Tolstoy book a specific mention in the what is art discussion!!! had to do a presentation on that in high school, and from many of the definitions I've read Leo Tolstoy left the most impact on me too.

Wow, I just listened to the Tolstoy book on Audible while driving to a plein air event. Basic premise: Language is communicating ideas, Art is communicating ("intercourse") emotions. Short Take -- Thought he started with a GREAT definition of art, and then spent way to long abusing and mis-applying his definition to condemn things he did not like (especially Wagner's music). But all of his attacks on Shakespare, Wagner, etc, were basically violating his own definition. I lean towards keeping Tolstoys theory and ignoring his ignorance in applying it. :) Thank you for bringing it up Marshall!!!!!
I have a WIDE definition of "art", but the concept of "Intercourse" is at its heart. Those that think the "unwashed' are too stupid to understand their works are not getting it. I think great art communicates with the great masses (inclusive). I think great art attempts to speak to as many as possible to communicate the feelings of the heart at the artist in the time in which the art "inception" occurs. But then, I love Van Gogh (and John Cleese) so I am probably a bit daft.
And Godet is not the same as Seinfeld! :)

You have no idea how I'm gonna miss this podcast. I hope someday you guys comeback to make more amazing conversations about art and about learning art specifically. This is- well was, my favorite podcast, it's time to relisten to every episode again and again on loop.
Thank you Stan & Marshall, these are great podcasts! It's not a problem if there are topics that aren't about art, because I like the variety - it's interesting & good for creativity.
Sad that it is ending, love to hear you both talking about art, learned a lot along the way. Looking forward to Marshal's book club.
I so enjoyed the podcast as a whole, learnt a lot of new things and still learning. Will keep coming back to these podcasts whenever I am drawing. Please keep doing these podcasts. I absolutely loved Draftsman !!!
Personally; I wish Marshall would do more videos like the one he did of the horses sketching while using different tools - now that video was cool...and informative, too.
This was such a shock... I'm really gonna miss you two so much. Draftsman is the first thing that pops into my head when someone says "podcast" and it's not the only one I listen to... It's helped me through the creative process for years. It's been the podcast I sit down to listen to weekly! I appreciate you both for all the priceless advice and entertainment.
I understand what went behind this decision though, and I respect that you don't want to drag this on past it's expiration date. I hope draftsman will come back one day, but only when you feel there's more to say!
It's been nice reliving some of the memories of this podcast, marshal and stans chemistry as co-hosts is irreplaceable. Also, I really appreciate marshal for instilling a curiosity about art books into me... I never particularly cared for them before but now I've started collecting them. Stan, I love your dry humour and your occasional gems of business experience (I still have a lot to grow in that department!), and how you guys taught me about art teachers and how useful self-critique is.
Also, thank you for introducing me to many great artists... I loved your interview with knight/arucelli (and the proko character design video) she is now one of my biggest inspirations both as a person and an artist!!

You guys are great and kudos to the work and content you've made. And you're absolutely right--every podcast that discusses art, creativity, the industries to be creative in, improving skills as an artist, etc. always ends up rehashing itself. Like you said, the things that people call in with questions about, the experiential wisdom you guys offer, it all gets distilled to the same half dozen lessons. But nonetheless--you two were unique in the podcast space and it was a joy to listen to. Thank you!
i am in art school now. the art school as project was helpful for me too because the advice has helped me get as much out of the opportunity as possible
