  • On the Monday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Mike's Beer Bar, host Christopher Carter and Post-Gazette Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo react to the Steelers' NFL draft haul. Are first-round pick Troy Fautanu and second-round Zach Frazier likely to slide right into starting roles along the offensive line? What grades do GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin deserve for the class that also includes WR Roman Wilson, LB Payton Wilson, G Mason McCormick, DT Logan Lee and DB Ryan Watts? And is a reunion with Cam Sutton possible amid reports that he's met with the team since his release by the Detroit Lions? Our duo tackles those topics and more.

Three or four of the rookies will either start from day one or very early in the season. They won't look like rookies when the postseason starts. As Myron Cope said, the terrible towel is poised to strike and so are the Steelers! This team is ready to make a deep playoff run!

During Cowher's 15 years, I can't speak to who made the decisions, the Steelers drafted an offensive lineman in the first or second round 8 times. By doing this they avoided overpaying for good but not great lineman. You let those guys go in free agency and plug in a draft pick. They even let Faneca go. They should go back to that philosophy. Pay your 2 most important guys and plug draft picks in around them.

If this class can do the same we might have something special in the making…

It's so unethical to do this, selecting a 1st round Left tackle knowing you are going to move them into a 2nd or 3rd round position and pay, really low down shit, teams that draft 1st round players don't devalue them by moving them to lesser positions, Steelers front office really showed their true colors on this one, these players are expendable to the Steelers brass, it's different when a first round Lt fails on the field justifying the change to RT, but drafting to do this all along is classless, at the very least, whichever ends up at RT, hopefully the Steelers will give them a big kiss, cause they sure screwed them out of money and a lesser valued career, that's just the truth, very unethical and classless decision making by the Steelers and obviously you have to question the entire Steelers narrative that they care about the players so much when they do sneaky classless stuff like this so obviously, just wow, imagine doing this in any other profession, hello lawsuits, discrimination, etc. Just wow I never would have believed they would actually do this to one of these young men as if their careers and them matter so little and the player deserves no career respect ..the con artist couldn't be more true

No. OL men take a few years. Jones was terrible last year and that was to be expected. The fans and the local sports talking heads acting like they are in win now mode is fantasy land stuff. That has actually been their problem for years, is wildly unrealistic expectations.

The decision to sign Russell Wilson says you're completely wrong. The decision to pick older draft picks says you're completely wrong. Saying Broderick Jones was "terrible" because he showed growing pains as a 21 year old 1st round draft pick... says you're not only clueless 🙄 but also says you didn't even listen to the episode. Your opinion is unqualified and unwarranted. Cool story tho bro

@@TheFactsMobjones being drafted in first round wasn’t because he was ready, was because of his potential
Plus we played him on the right more. If we would’ve grabbed Mims, he would’ve been a project as well. Steelers are doing a lot of very intentional moves and building from the future and reloading quick. I’m really excited for the youth of our line and it’s only going to help our run game tremendously
