Steelers likely to let Najee Harris go, roll with Jaylen Warren after 2024? Would that be a mistake?

  • On the Monday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Mike's Beer Bar, host Christopher Carter welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo to analyze GM Omar Khan's decision to decline the fifth-year rookie contract option on RB Najee Harris. Does it spell the end of Harris in Pittsburgh after 2024, even as the team has said it will consider an extension? Does that make Jaylen Warren the starter in waiting? And is letting Harris go a mistake given new OC Arthur Smith's run-heavy approach?
Our duo tackles those questions, then gets into Warren's comments about new QB Justin Fields potentially returning kicks on special teams if he fails to win the starting job over Russell Wilson at Steelers training camp.

Strong? Just had his 1st 1000 yard season. Which isn't all that exciting to be honest it's what 57 yards a game with the 17 game schedule. I don't think that is worth 7 million a year. Not sure but if your paying that much I would expect a little more output. And Najee vision for a running back is aweful, his blocking hasn't improved and for a back his size that is really a problem. Is it lack of effort, or the want to block. Name 1 area that he has improved from the previous years? And he has been out played bye warren the last few years. Same as Connor why pay 7 million for just a guy who gets 1000 yards a season. Which again is like 57 yards a game and isn't all that impressive.

And again 7 million a year salary for the production you get from Connor is actually worse then if you paid Najee. Connor can't stay healthy which even going back to the Steelers days was a problem for him. He misses way to many games. Look I love Connor and also his story. But 7 million a year for his play isn't even close to worth it. His stats are actually worse then Najee, and not to mention his much older. Look it's not worth paying him or Najee 7 million. Maybe half that and you have a deal. But you do have poorly run teams like the Cardinals who will pay that much for him. If anything you pay warren who is a better back then either player could ever imagine being.

The difference is that Pollard was more dynamic in the passing game and his usage was increased without Zeke.
