Just in case make sure all the air is bled out of your cooling system. Those funnel systems that you attach to the radiator cap opening work great. Make sure engine is cold. Park on an incline, attach the system, Fill the funnel halfway with 50/50 mix. Start the engine and when the thermostat opens, start giving the radiator hoses a squeeze till you don't see anymore bubbles rise up in the funnel. Rev the engine at a constant 3,000 rpm for at least a minute will help purge the air out of system further.
GM always runs their V8s hot. So there is a complete burn for emissions reasons. Keep your coolant changed regularly. Do oil changes when the time and mileage comes up. GM engineers build them to take the heat. But maintenance is the key factor. And I do use super coolant in my vehicles. It seems to make them a lot happier on hot summer days.

A Corvette's airflow volume over the radiator is limited in comparison to a vehicle, like a pickup, with more volume of leading-edge airflow, but has the possibility of being driven at higher road speeds, increasing the volume of leading-edge airflow. A 2000 model year Corvette calls for an OE 186-187 degree thermostat, which is the same as the typical 186-187 degree thermostat in other 5.3 and 6.0 Gen III V8s in Silverados and Suburbans. However, the Corvette's OE radiator cap has an 18 lb. rating, which is fairly high compared to a standard 15 lb. cap in a Gen III-equipped Chevrolet Silverado or Suburban, and the higher pressure would be to prevent high-temperature boil over. I suspect the normal thermostat temperature, high-pressure radiator cap, and thermostatically-controlled electric fans are all part of a system to keep the Corvette operating at an optimal temperature in the absence of high road speeds that would otherwise provide sufficient leading-edge airflow volume to the radiator. Essentially, the fans are intended to come on to cool the vehicle's coolant when you're not driving fast enough to cool it with incoming air. It's normal, don't worry about it.
My car operates as GM intended, but coming from other cars and a Suburban means I didn't understand how hot a Corvette runs. As I said in the video, I wasn't sold on the Rislone in this application. I haven't tried anything else since then for a comparison.
Without a timing comparison, it's not much of a test. Maybe the fans took longer to come on, in other words the coolant took longer to get to the temperature. Also the big temperature drop is only realized by using deionized water with the additive.
It literally says on the bottle that with a 50/50 coolant mix with the super coolant is less efficient than water and the super coolant. Use it right for the best results to get the BEST RESULTS. I’m using this on my C4 with straight water and this product to have the best results (as stated on the bottle)
@@BasinMotorsports Yes. I ran water in it 9 times. Then I flushed the entire system and replaced the hoses, thermostat and radiator and ran straight water, and now I’m running straight water AND the super coolant.
That temp seems pretty normal to me. These things run at 190-210 while moving. At idle, they start getting hot because there's no more airflow. If it still bothers you, maybe change to a 180 degree thermostat over the stock one. Might help if you're in a hot area.
They do run at 200° or more. I took my car on a long road trip after installing a new radiator and they just run around there. It can hit 230° at idle in the summer before the fans start to bring it down.
I was having some over heating issues. I know what my issue is just too cheap to fix it at the moment. But after running if and knowing the temp before and after. I did get a 10 degrees drop and that's what I needed. Until I replace my cluch fan anyways.

To really see how this product works is to do an experiment. Put some water and an equivalent amount of coolant mix in two separate sucepans with thermometers and turn on the heat. Observe that the mix will have fewer bubbles or much smaller bubbles whereas the water only will be boiling vigorously already. Under pressure in the cooling system the mix will be carrying off more heat from the cylinder head towards the radiator. You get the idea?
My 2012 JCW Mini Cooper runs up to 230 too. My hubbies 2017 230i BMW runs hotter at 234. Its all about economy now and I really dont like it either. I tried Redline Water Wetter and it made no difference. My last option is to fit a separate electrical fan on my Cooper and push air through the radiator from the front side and I'll have it set to a switch inside my car and I'll turn them on when I want to like in town or idling. Problem is, every fan is about 2.5 inches thick and I only have room for a 1 3/4 inch. Which means I can only use the room at the top or bottom of the radiator because of a crash bar in the middle. I can fit three 5" motorcycle fans in a row horizontally which I think will still help a lot. Big job getting my fan shroud off though arrrgggg.
I had to eventually replace the radiator due to the plastic tanks starting to weep coolant. I replaced it with a larger aluminum radiator and added water wetter also. It stays around the 200-205 range more, but if it sits long enough it will still creep to 225-230 for the fans to turn on. It does take a while to get used to it running hotter than expected.
Product works but you MUST do these things 1) 160-170 thermostat 2) *(VERY IMPORTANT) Get a tune where your fans kick on at 170 degrees 3) MUST use in distilled water ONLY!! 4) Burp the car so theres no air pockets
I believe it can be programmed with something like HP Tuners software. I have also seen others change the thermostat from a 190° to a 170° to keep it lower.
Most are replacing the radiator with a larger one. The water pump is adequate currently. Some also add a lower temperature thermostat and /or hood vents. I haven't decided what direction I'll go with the car long-term.
You may be able to, but I don't think it would help me. The C5 Corvette isn't good at cooling by design. It doesn't allow heat to escape well. The C5 and C6 generations suffer from it. The C7 finally incorporated a hood vent to reduce underhood heat.

I don't think your cooling system has any issues. The fans are going to kick on at 225 no matter what.

The C5 Corvette has two electric fans. One is a low speed, one is a high speed. They each turn on and off at specific temperatures.

No. They mostly turn on if the car is idling on a hot day. You can hear them turn on, but I don't notice any change with how the car runs.
