  • People living with pain start moving their body as a unit. When they stand up from sitting or go up stairs or get in and out of their car they contract most of their muscles in the body.
    The shoulder and neck muscles over contract when a person is in pain for two reasons...
    1. Often the person is breathing into their chest a causing the shoulders to be engaged during breathing - which is not their function. This makes them over contract and become extremely tight from over working.
    2. The body over contracts the neck and shoulder muscles when it is in pain doing movements that do not normally involve those muscles.
    Combine these two reasons and the upper back, shoulders and neck muscles are chronically tight which is a contributing factor to the person's chronic pain issue.
    This trunk rotation exercise is BRILLIANT for helping shift this pattern of chronic shoulder and neck tension.
    Do this exercise regularly as prescribed in this video and you might just amaze yourself!
