this is a really well made and structured review. ai war has been hanging out on my wishlist for ages now and a while I'm still a little intimidated by the learning curve, the scenario walkthrough makes things feel a bit more manageable.

I love this game. Was looking for a playthrough but saw this review instead. One thing you could've mentioned at the end is the insane amount of mods that come with the game (though some require dlc). Every time someone on the discord makes one, the devs put it straight in the game so you can access it regardless of where you got the game from.
The game provides many pre-built scenarios too for you to play, the easiest ones functioning as tutorials, but watching a step-by-step playthrough will probably make it slightly less overwhelming for people.

I bounced off of AI War 2 pretty hard the first few times I tried it. Its absolutely overwhelming when you come in blind. Fortunately the game has some quickstart presets, which I went through to get the hang of the game loop. Now it's one of my go to strategy games.
All the options the game offers is it's biggest weakness when it comes to first getting into the game. When you are new and don't know anything, you can't know what you want.
But customization is also the game's biggest strength in keeping the game fun and fresh for the folks who got past the initial cliff.

I'm a big fan of both games, I have over 500 hours in the first, closer to 10 on the 2nd as I'm starting it up in earnest now. I was a KS backer and a forum member for sometime before AI War 2 came out, but never gave it a decent try till recently. I like how much more down in the details the first game let's me get, but the 2nd game is easier to learn, the games look to be shorter, and the tech feels better as it can affect multiple units, instead of just 'you now have mark 2 autocannon minipods' .
Subbed! Will watch the review of the original as well.

Solid video, touches on key concepts of AI War 2 without overloading information. Since that is very easy in this game.

This is the greatest RTS game that I'll never play. Maybe when I'm 50 and have nothing but time I'll devote an entire month just to learn the basics.

Okay, looks like a cool game, but I just started getting into Distant Worlds Universe, I'm not starting to play another highly complex strategy at the same time.
Maybe I will try it later at some point.
    Great review btw.

An 'O Fortuna' joke, within the first half-a-minute? Sorry, MandaloreGaming's obligatory Home Alone screams, you've just been dethroned...
(And then a snippet of Final Fantasy music, too? You're spoiling us!)
(And then ANOTHER snippet of Final Fantasy music?! And a third, whilst I was typing that previous sentence?! I literally can't even keep up with how great your musical taste is...)

Its stuped, that AI has focus fire on the Command Station on the planet. You cant make interesting game on high AIP, only boring one punch man battle. So, game make you play only on low AIP, else AI will kill you, becouse you always lose Command station-planet-has high AIP, but low money.

I was about to buy the game "yeah it's challenging but possible" until I learned about the Overlord's "Phase 2" (after phase one of having to deal with his invulnerable stage). I'm not into Dark Souls types of games and this seems like one of those types where they like to make the player suffer by adding more and more layers of nonsense difficulty so the player can't win in the end. I reckon some people enjoy an almost unreal challenge, I'm happy for them, but I'm not one of those guys. So basically this game wants you to NOT win, and to win you'll have to lose unfairly without even know what happened 10x times or more...I guess after "phase 2" comes a phase 3 where you have to read a 10 pages Wiki to realize you have to build a marvel of a sort in the middle of the remaining enemy territory fully guarded by powerful AI while the almost dying Overloard phase 3 ship is DDOS attacking your real PC to beat the game... It's really childish. I should've guessed when you mentioned something like "If you beat the game in lvl 10 difficulty tell the developers so they can patch it and make it more unfair"... no wonder why it's a niche game, it's not fun, it's a torture that only a little percentage of people might enjoy.
