The Best Game to Get You Into BattleTech
BattleTech has always been something I was vaguely aware of but this game is what got me into it. The story is a great intro in the universe with interesting lore and the gameplay is reaching the quality of the X-com games while doing its own thing.

Dragon Age Inquisition isn't bad but a lot of technical issues hold it back, which is likely the fault of EA pushing for the more economic option when it came to choosing a game engine. Nexus The Jupiter Incident Review - Pretty but Too Many Sci-Fi Tropes
Disney owns the alien and predator franchise had been a bad idea from the start
I missed the expansion Primal hunt
This was my first game i played online and i was have the OG CD and expansion. I wish for a remaster
Need a remaster now
I guess it's time to start up another game of X-Com
"FARD" mod is a must
Goo is extremely powerful because you can literally wait until you're just about to fight the enemy to choose your unit comp. Unformed goos are super fast too and excellent scouts. They do effectively have a higher unit cap because the small units are produced in multiples from a single goo.
wow didnt know xenoborg where a thing usually killed everything before i could examine because i was so scared!
you forgot the shotgun! but maybe you were too scared to look in the swarm raids
never knew saving was a thing! completed oin anyways!
the alien pounce in the first game was a 4 button combi. they put it in the second game so that more people would play alien in multiplayer
the second spear gun is the avp 2 sound without the laugh
I was one of the voice artists who recorded some of the characters voices. I never played the game though. It’s really cool to see someone go through the game so well and show what it was like. Thanks! Great video.
Really wasn't a fan of all the extra RNG rolls XCOM 2 added, Dodge, explosives can crit, melee can miss AND crit, Guardian Perk is a flat 50% chance to fire again, most of the weapon mods being incredibly powerful IF they roll positive, standard explosives MIGHT set units on fire, honestly the list goes on. And then there's the mission timers, they feel like a duct tape fix for bad AI, force the player to play worse, instead of making units with abilities and AI to support them to counter exploitative play Loved XCOM 1 and Long War 1, wasn't a fan of XCOM 2
You South African? Me too 😊
I can not recommend Long War 2 and Long War of the Chosen enough (along with Modjam onc you're skilled enough). It makes the game much longer, more complex, and you can actually build a barracks and have time to use the technology you worked so hard to build up (for more than a few missions). Xwynns and DerAva taught me everything I needed to know about the strategy layer, and how to have extreme patience in playing the missions.
I do really enjoy this game but there are some baffling decisions HBS made like how they implemented flamers in game basically makes them pretty much useless because for some reason they decided to give flamers 4 ammo included with the weapon, but you CAN NOT buy/install additional flamer ammo so flamers can only get off 4 shots per battle. Also the way they implemented reputation with factions but by the time the game introduces the black market, most players will probably have very low rep with the pirate faction and trying to improve your rep with them at that point is a major grind because your low rep locks you out of contracts that award decent rep.
I can't believe you didn't talk about the Photobooth and how fun that is.
It's a fun feature, just didn't know where to fit it in.
Good review peaked my interest
Another grande video from our information guy!! ❤❤
Not only is it a great introduction to Battletech as a whole, for those of us already familiar with the setting, it can be a gateway to appreciating 'mechs you never would've considered using before. I'm an ardent supporter of the Blackjack, the Jagermech, and the Vindicator almost wholly due to HBS Battletech. I salvaged the first Jagermech I encountered because my Centurion did a melee attack and hit it right in the head. Not a scratch on it otherwise. Salvaged all three parts at the end of the mission, and used it almost to the end of the campaign.
Great vid mate
If you loved the standard game, the mods will keep you interested for a long long time. This game is my most played game on steam because of BTA3062.
For me it's BEX-CE ... clocked about 3000 hours in that mod by now, 3730 with the game. Still not tired of it
Imagine if the only perception of humans the Aliens have is through Steam games. Battleships, mechs, super soldiers, starships and anime. The horror.
A related but early adaptation of Battletech-style gameplay but for a competing setting is the first Cyberstorm game. Much less work on story and mission variety but much more actual technological advancement happening. Up until HBS BT hit I think it was about the only hexmap turn-based mech game out there.
It's a great example of a game using a limited budget well. And clearly loving it's source material.
I am so excited for the upcoming "reforged" version, looks so much better than the DC: ruclips.net/video/PBYr9Wcbs-Q/видео.htmlsi=T9MEcu2MWq4TjtxX
Seeing an assault mech in a mission slowly shifts from "OH SHIT THIS IS REALLY BAD" to "You're coming home with me!"
A blip pops up on your radar: _Unknown Vehicle, 60T_ That's when the sweat begins to pour.
The Urbie is a trashCAN not a trash cannot. Don't mock the greatest urban defense mech in existence. It is mighty! And very cute.
Also don't forget that there is a spicy version of the trash can where it can become a little bit of a theater wide problem
It's not the greatest urban defense mech in existence. It's the cheapest. And as the saying goes, quantity is a quality all its own.
I actually bought a Walkthrough booklet just for the goat puzzle, after being stuck for days on it. Remake is supposed to come out by the end of the year (2024). I also hope they'll port Beneath a Steel Sky to console.
Yeah interested to see how the remake turns out.
I really like the Battletech pc game, but I'd suggest playing on Easy, the campaign ramps up and you'll go from "man this is a cakewalk" to "how is this one enemy destroying me off the screen" only to get their mech after a hard fought battle and find it's actually garbage.
Yeah, it felt super hard on release. Once you get used to the systems, you shred any and all opposition without breaking a sweat
You definitely need to download the Roguetech mod. -OG tabletop gamer who's been playing since 1985. (I missed the launch by a year being overseas as a military dependent.) I've played every variation and the Roguetech mod for Battletech is about as close to true tabletop as one can get on a computer.
Glad this game still receive praises even today. While MechWarrior games are the most known and popular, HBS BattleTech truly is a great video game by bringing to life what it looks like to play the actual board wargame. And the mods are great.
Fantastic video! I played a lot of mods since doing the story, it was especially nice to remember just how enjoyable the story was!
my biggest problem with battletech is the unrealistic weapons(balanced) -a 120 mm cannon with a range of 900 meters???? no thx.
While caliber rises barrel length stays the same. Might explain it
I love this game. You really can feel the Battletech theme while playing. It also captures Battletech stress curve in each mission pretty well, with the weight of your decisions increasing as your mechs are damaged and increase heat. Love it.
For the grim mercenary of the far future, there is only war.
There was this one mission I did which was located on an ice planet. The Lance group I was in charge of was stationed on top of the mountain. Let's just say, I had the high ground and laid waste to the enemy without suffering too much damage.
This rpg game perfectly handles mech martial arts when I have to deal with just rock em sock em in the actual pilot game. The only problem I have with this is you can see where they've been limited by a budget because I want more.
Gandam leans more into the sci fi thing while battletech really leans into the gears of industry. Its gritty, its heavy, and i love it Also rougetech and battletech advanced 3062 are awesome
I highly recommend MechanicalFrog. He is generally focused on individual mechs and oter units with a few videos about planets and such
These guys also made Shadowrun games. Hong Kong and Dragonfall are amazing.
You should look up TheBlackPantsLegion and listen to the tex talks battletech series if you haven't already
Have watched his vids they are pretty fun
I was massively dissapointed in MW5 being an unplayable POS without tons of mods and then I tried battletech. And it was fantastic. If BT is ignored and MW5 is praised despite being about as good as Morbeius, then no wonder gamers get fleeced left and right. Anyway Battletech got me into battletech and I have heaps of fun playing both AS and classic.
This game is a true gem of the genre and I'm sad there won't be a 2nd one. But I'm glad there are a lot of mods to keep the game fresh. And hard as nails.
Can confirm, HBS Battletech is how I came yo know of the existence of the universe and the 3062 Advanced mod is what got me actually interested in the universe. Finding out about all the politicks is what got me playing tabletop lol.
53:12 Adam Jensen spotted
I don’t know anything about this setting but this video was an enjoyable watch
3:33 ah, yep that's what I was afraid of, the warp has claimed another one. But seriously that is an amazing channel and I've watched probably hundreds of hours of it
His channel is pretty easy to lose lots of hours to lol.
Never looked into this universe before but I appreciate how much it wears its influences proudly on its sleeve. Almost every fictional setting is a blending of other aspects from other settings, what's important is how they use those inspirations to make something new. From what I have seen so far, it looks like Battletech makes effort to iterate creatively. I might get more interested in the mecha genre because of this!
