- So Halo Wars as an RTS set in the Halo universe seems like it would be a good fit and another interesting thing about it was that it was made for console controls. It has the dubious honor of being the last game from Ensemble studios, which made me want to try it out.

Hope you enjoyed my first go at a Halo game, thanks for checking it out. If you want to see more reviews I've done, here's a playlist ruclips.net/p/PLtiuHW2Sjl_7-g6kcP64unhSdqBSYDtya
Halo Wars was a fun game. I really liked how the art style, the units, and the sound design all felt like they were taken straight out of Halo. Admittedly it’s very bare bones and I really wish we would have been able to use all the unique units more often. But, it works well as an introductory title and they did a pretty good job for a console rts. I just wish the game would have been like the e3 demo because that looked like a much cooler game. Halo Wars 2 was pretty fun as well, but it definitely has it’s draw backs.
I really wish we could have gotten the cancelled dlc where you’d play as the Brute Chieftain. It would have given us a different perspective on the events of the game. It could have introduced some of the cut units and new ones to flesh things out.
I really wish that 343 would put Halo Wars 2 on Steam, add proper modding tools like what we have for MCC, and enable crossplay between the different versions. As for Wars 1 that also needs crossplay and modding tools. Then I’m sure more people would play these games. Luckily they’re on gamepass and that works with pc.
Good video, and good luck on your other stuff.
Why didn't Bungie stick with Halo?
Because it wasn't their Destiny.
Great video as always!
I just found your channel looking for a xcom review and how do you not have a lot more subs this is top quality work I thought you had 875k subs
Thanks, I think I'll get to 1000 eventually but pass that I dunno. Glad people enjoy the video in any case :)
If you want another interesting take on RTS on console controls, there is the AVP game on the PS2. Three campaigns with a fair variety of units, and if I remember right the story wasn't too bad although they dropped the ball on putting actual endings in
Saw Mandalore's video on that, does look interesting.
great vid!
I couldn't think of anything else to comment :/
For the record, I am VERY interested in hearing the story hinted at in 13:55. Here's to hoping that it's a tale worth of its own video!
Maybe someday.
Nice review. Like you when this came out I had flashbacks to C&C controls and was pleasantly surprised at how well they did the control scheme on console. Now people tend to have quite large TV's and controllers have more functionality in them so it would be interesting to see what an RTS made with controller and console in mind could do.
Thanks, yeah if dev's take into account consoles when making an RTS it can work pretty well.
Watched your AvP 2 video, excellent analysis of the game. Gonna watch this video now.
PS, how is load shedding treating you? I'm currently off -_-
Surviving mostly and working when I can, also hoping for something better than Eskom 2.0 lol.
Halo Wars imo is the best game if you want to get someone into RTS games.
I'd say Halo wars is the best introduction to RTS games for people who haven't played any before as its simple & easy to understand & on the harder difficulties helps you learn the micromanaging thats needed to enjoy the larger PC games. I haven't played many but I know I'd never have played them if it wasn't for Halo wars 2 & 1 introducing me to the games.
That's true it's a pretty good RTS to get into this genre of games. Way better than C&C Red Alert on PS1 which was my first RTS experience.
@@InfoGuyGaming At some point I am going to try the C&C games on PC as the only RTS games I've really played are on console & I'd say the only kinda RTS games I've played on PC are the Paradox grand strategy games but they are a mix of really slow paced gameplay (usually 3-4 hours per decade) & wars that burn through a decade in no time. compared to what I assume games like C&C would be with the a lot faster paced gameplay needing micromanaging constantly with hot keys burned into your mind.
@@cillianennis9921 If you are going to try a C&C game I suggest starting with Red Alert 2 it's bit more forgiving than first games in the series.
For the record, you can save the first ship, in Xbox there is an achievement ,but you have to make sure the hp doesn't get to a certain point 13:30
Omg. CnC on a PS controller....condolences
Those where fun times.😅
