This might be the best Ranger pump video I have found. Thank you for the effort and skill you put into making it!!!
Hey I really appreciate that! I’m glad I was able to help. Thanks for watching!
You made it look easy. I was ready to pay someone to do it, but I'm pretty sure I can do it myself. Thanks for the video.
I love to hear that. It’s really not to bad of a job at all that’ll save you some money. I know you can do it. Thanks for watching!
The whole unit at oreiley auto parts is $78.99 just bought one yesterday to replace on my brothers 97 ranger. But this video was extremely helpful and guided me from taking unnecessary steps to replace his fuel pump. Thanks buddy
That’s awesome. I’m glad it was able to help. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this video. I was able to revive my ford ranger thanks to it.
That’s awesome I’m glad I was able to help! Thanks for watching!
Thanks a lot, got her up and running with zero issues!
That’s awesome! I love hearing that. Thanks for watching!
Very good video. Clear easy to see and a hell of alot better than trying to remove gas tank from below. Great job and thanks from Floriida...
Hey thanks a lot! It really means a lot I try to make easy to follow videos to help. Thanks for watching!
Thanx for the vid. Two dudes can easily move the bed back two feet. One person can reset it back on. Good on ya!
Thanks! Ya it’s not a bad job at all. Thanks for watching!
Great video thanks. Made it look easy.
Thanks
I can't believe Ford didn't just make a small floor board cover to have access to change the pump. This is nuts 🤪 and a waste of human consumption.
Haha at least it’s not to much work. Thanks for watching!
@@JunkyardJunkie what if I'm not getting a spark from my plug coil on a 2010 ford ranger? Any advice?
Thank you for this great info. Tomorrow I fix mine,!! A 2000 ford ranger xlt 2.5l.
You’re welcome I’m glad I could help. Best of luck and thanks for watching!
Very nice work. Thank you man
I really appreciate that! Thank you a lot!
Great video dude. Wow, you made my life easier.

Hi thad Will be the same for a ranger 91 Thank you for your help And this video
Thanks for watching!
I was about to just pay somebody to replace the housing but now I think I can do it and only have to replace the pump thanks
That’s awesome I’m glad the video was able to help. And it’ll save you a good bit of money too haha. Thanks for watching!
Thank you..
You are very welcome! Thank you for watching!
THANK YOU
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching!
Quick tip, those screwdrivers can be used as nut drivers on hose clamps. Just remove the bit on the correct end of the screwdriver for the size of the clamp screw and you have a nutdriver.
Very true. Thanks for watching!
Good deal . Thanks.
I'm sure that you intended to say go ahead and change the fuel filter in the description where it says something about this video shows how to change fuel pump I recommend you go ahead and change the fuel pump while you're at it.
👍
Thanks for pointing that out you are correct haha. But, I have now updated it, thanks for letting me know. Also thanks for watching!

Cool. I found your channel late last night and thought I'd watch a couple videos before turning in. Well, thank you for keeping me up past my bedtime last night.
Due to recent heart surgery and complications that followed I am not able to work at the moment so I have plenty of time to sit around and watch other people work on their projects via RUclips.
Life is good.
Thanks that means a lot haha!
I’m really sorry to hear that but I am glad that you are ok. How longs the recovery? Did/do you work on cars? If you ever get bored feel free to chat sometimes I miss comments in comments. RUclips is bad about only showing the first comment.
@@JunkyardJunkie the recovery was supossed to be 2-3 months but now with the complications who knows.
I'm not a mechanic. I just do a little shad tree mechanic'ing for friends and friends of friends. Nothing too big. A timing chain or water pump is as far as l care to go on someone else's car. At the moment I can't do even an oil change.
It will get better I'm sure. Just wish it would hurry up. LOL
Well I really hope you have a speedy recovery sir. Wish you the best of luck!
I'm about to do it on a 1999 2.3L - Damn I hope it's this Easy...... Great Video though...
Thanks! You got this! Let me know how it goes.
It was actually Easier to drop the Gas tank, However putting it back on was A real Pain in the Ass- I recommend having someone help you do this as It is more of a two man Job !
Many many Thanks. Video was very helpful. A constructive comment: maybe configure the camera to not adjust automatically to the closest object. Thanks again
Thanks for the advice I have gotten a lot better about it. Still trying to improve. Thanks for watching!
Good tutorial. One of these is dead in my driveway waiting for me.
Thanks! Good luck, I’m sure you’ll be able to knock it out.
Thank you 👍🏻

Glad I could help! Thanks for watching!
What size fuel line metal remover tool did you use on the fuel line
I believe I used the adjustable one like this Titan Tools - Fuel Line Disconnect Tool (51614),One Size a.co/d/8uIP9ah
Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
I had to grind two of the bed bolts off. The torx holes had rusted round.
But at least you got it done. Thanks for watching!
Hi, thanks for the video. I am getting a whine from my fuel tank while the truck is running at all times (hot or cold, driving or idling) is it safe to assume the fuel pump or sending unit is likely the cause of this whine?
Yes that’s a good sign it’s probably on the way out. Thanks for watching!
The filter on my new sending unit won't stay on, is there a way to make it stay or should I just get a new one?
I would get a new one. If you just bought the parts the part store or online store should replace it for free. Good luck! Thanks for watching!
What's the tool that you used to remove the 2nd fuel line?
Hey this is one just like the one I used. ABN Fuel Line Disconnect Scissor Tool for 5/16in and 3/8in Vehicle Fuel Lin Compatible with GM, Ford, Mazda www.amazon.com/dp/B00YFRD1Y6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_R6JbGbTK1J1W9
I put in the description the fuel line disconnect tool set it was in. Hope this helps!
Quick question for you. (Thanks for the video by the way.) I replaced the plugs and wires on my 2001 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0 V6. I replaced the fuel filter and after I check the old filter and sure enough it was stopped up quite a bit. Afterwards I tried turning over the motor a few times and then I checked that small pressure valve on the back of the fuel rail to see if any fuel was coming out. Some fuel started coming out, but it wasn't pressurized all it just sort of leaked out. I swapped some of the fuses around and also ran test and got no errors. I made a relay for the fuel pump fuse and used that to try and make the pump run. I can hear the pump kick on for a couple seconds after turning the key in the ignition like it's supposed to. I disconnected the hoses from the filter again and setup a container to catch the fuel. I pulled the pump fuse and plugged in my relay and after turning the key the pump still won't push fuel out of the tank. Is it a safe bet that my pump is bad? I feel like I checked everything I could and that's the only thing left that seems like it's not working properly even though I could hear it kicking on and off. Thanks again for any help.
Ok, so if you disconnected the fuel line at the fuel filter. And nothing fell into your catch can then it’s safe to assume the fuel problem. You’ve already answered what would be my next question which is is the fuel pump being commanded on. You said that you can hear the fuel pump come on. So with that said I feel it’s a very safe bet it’s the fuel pump. Good job on diagnosing! Thanks for watching!
@@JunkyardJunkie you’re awesome man I appreciate it and great video too you probably saved me a heck of a lot of time
Thanks! That means a lot. I wish you the best.
My 97 Ford ranger. Runs perfect but those not read the gas level. I have to read the miles everytime I fill the tank... so I'm guessing is the gas level and no fuel pump?? Thanks.
Ya it’s most likely the fuel level sensor that’s on the fuel pump that needs to be replaced. Pretty easy quick job. Thanks for watching!
Way easier than dropping your tank
Ya, far easier haha. Thanks for watching!
What's the size of the star fitting to remove truck bed
T55
I am changing the fuel pump on my 2002 ford edge. I have removed the bed and the old fuel pump and put on a new one. But now it isn't getting any power to the pump. Any suggestions on why that may be? Thank you
First place I would start is check fuses and relays. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
Check the inertia switch if it has one.
I've got the bed removed and after your video I realized that I don't have little tool to remove that fitting. Is it possible to do it without & not break anything? And if I have to buy the tool, is it the 5/16 one? Great video man. Happy Rangering!
Unfortunately not really there’s some tricks you can do like home make one that’ll work. But I highly recommend to use the right tool. I don’t remember the exact size but here’s a link to one I use on many different vehicles works about 90% of the time or better. a.co/d/5i9RvyQ
Thanks that means a lot! Best of luck. Let me know how it turns out. Thanks for watching!
@@JunkyardJunkieI ordered the 5/16 and 3/8 scissor tool off of Ebay a few hours ago. It looks like the fuel filter also has a similar clamp as the pump. And I'll probably change it too while I'm working through the fuel system. Thankfully it's a cheap little tool. Hopefully I will never need it again after this lol. Fingers crossed I can get this Ranger running again. Appreciate the response & the tool info. Gonna sub now & I'll check out some of your other vids. Thanks again!
I believe in you. You’ll get it running I’m sure. Thanks for the sub I appreciate it!
When I turn my key on I get 30 PSI cranky 45 PSI will not start is the fuel pump bad
Hey, depends on the motor if you buy a users manual it’ll tell you exactly. But a quick tip what I’ll usually do shoot a little starting fluid in the intake duct while someone turns it over if it fires up and starts then you know it’s a fuel problem. Most likely culprit is fuel pump. But also check your fuel filter if it’s gunked
up it can restrict flow not allowing enough pressure. Thanks for watching!
Just before I replace the fuel pump it only starts with starting fluid and pressing on the gas it also was sitting for 2 years with bad gas in the tank we siphoned it all out but still kind of smells like old gas what is my problem
If it starts off starting fluid then you know it’s a fuel problem. If you had old gas I would recommend changing the fuel filter too. But, where I would start if I was you I’d check the fuel pressure. Then, go from there. Hope this helps!
You got a link for that fuel pressure test set?
Here’s the one I use all the time: BETOOLL Pro Fuel Injection Pressure Tester Kit Gauge 0-140 PSI a.co/d/ijbGmAM
Here’s one that’s cheaper: BETOOLL 0-140PSI Fuel Injector Injection Pump Pressure Tester Gauge Kit Car Tools (Master) a.co/d/ezQ8dDE
Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
@@JunkyardJunkie Oh heck no, I want the good one. TY. Added to my List for the wife to buy for surprise xmas gift.
Glad I can help. it’s been a really good set for me.
Did you not have to remove the rear bumper?
No, you don’t have to remove the bumper just make sure to unclip the connector.
My 03 dual sport mazda fuel pump has a 5 prong wire connector all the ones I can find no matter the trim are 4 can't find any info on this has anyone seen this
Oh no spices either
Sorry for the late response. Best thing to do is call the parts department at a Mazda dealership. They can look up everything about it and find you a replacement. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching.
There are notches on the edge of the cap that you tap, or for a" special tool".
Ya? Do you want a link to the special tool? Or did you have some other question? Thanks for watching!
@@JunkyardJunkie , no i've done it that way too, but there's always a special tool.
Oh haha that’s very true
Is there a link for the bed mounting kit
Not sure are you talking about the mounting bolts?
@@JunkyardJunkie yes 87 ford ranger
I’m sure they have some online. If not go to your local bolt store like ace hardware and match the threads up. Hope this helps.
@@JunkyardJunkie I found some
i just assumed it was my fuel pump. turned out it was like when i piss now. stream just wasn't strong enough.
That’s why it’s always good to verify. But, it sounds like you got it fixed so I’m happy for you! Thanks for watching!
Manufacturers really suck for complicating such an easy job. I did this on our F150, but I dropped the tank because I was alone and did not have the torques bitts for the bed.
True. Honestly I think with most modern cars except trucks they’ve been giving access panels usually under the seat which is super convenient. But most full size trucks still have to drop the tank. Thanks for watching!
Why did it come with extra parts that you didn’t need?
They use the same kit for many different vehicles. So, some pieces are not needed but are needed for other applications. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
What’s the intro song?
Letter box - hey sailor. Thanks for watching!
Hmmm the level used to be called a float.
Ya it’s a float
I've tried everything on mine, banging on the tank just to see if it would start. Nothing!
Battery, plugs, wires, connections, grounds all clear. Im certin its my pump.
Thank you for a great video
You’re welcome thanks for watching! But, I would start with the relay making sure it works then disconnect a fuel line and turn it over see if fuel is moving. if those aren’t working then it’ll most likely be your fuel pump. but ,you can also make sure it’s getting power at the connector.
I'm just cutting a whole in the bed and self tap a plate over the hole. Problem solved
That’s one way to do it. Good luck thanks for watching!
I cringe when I see people using those fuggin latex gloves on anything other than nasty fluids. How can anyone work with those things on?? Save them for grease, brake fluid, oil and trans fluid. Unplugging electrical connections and using impact wrenches won't cause cancer.
Not dissing the video or the guy. Great video. Beats siphoning and dropping the tank.
It also kills me when manufacturers don't position the pump in a place that a porthole can't be put above for easy access. I've done 3 pumps on my Excursion, once with a full 177 litres of fuel. I was going to put a porthole above it in the cargo area of the truck but Ford decided to put a frame cross member above it. Built Ford Dumb.
Thanx for the video. A 2010 Ranger is on my hunting list.
Haha no offense taken. I used to never wear gloves no matter how dirty the job was. But, many things have carcinogens so I try to play it more safe now and would want anyone that learned from me to do the same. As for the not using impact wrenches I literally use a Milwaukee in the video. I used air for the longest time electric just made it easier and portable.
I’m with you on not have access panels to the pump. it would save a lot of headache same with a simple drain bolt. So, you don’t have to siphon the tank you can at least drain the gas out before dropping it. Good luck on finding your 2010!
Not everybody has those tools how about ways of getting those pumps off without those fancy tools
Honestly I didn’t use anything fancy. Everything I had you could pick up from harbor freight for near nothing and instead of using a impact gun use a 14$ breaker bar. But no matter what you’ll have to invest in some tools to do the job. Hope this helps!
Muchas gracias por la información muy completa😊
eres muy bienvenido. Me alegro de haber podido ayudar. ¡Gracias por ver!
Great video but don’t do this unless you want to ruin your new pump, since the tank is full of years worth of debris and gunk that you should clean out which is recommended by manufacturers, also the sending unit needs to be fully changed since they are probed to failure and you will never get a true reading of your gas level!
I have to disagree with you. The fuel pump has been going strong for nearly two years at this point. I see them from time to time. The sock protects from debris. Which there shouldn’t be a lot of debris and stuff anyways unless you keep running the tank all the way out of gas. They may be prone to fail but why would you fix a part because it may break? That’s like changing a outter tie rod every few months because they’re prone to ripping. The fuel gauge still works perfect in the truck. So instead of a 50$ fix your looking at 200+ for the whole assembly. If you got the money to waste more power to you. Thanks for watching.
lol l l
?
I can't get it to play video, nothing but advertasments.
Sorry to hear that. All RUclips videos have ads but after 5 seconds you should be able to skip it.
