  • In this video I take a basic black crankbait and give it the Midas touch. I have been using and experimenting with Spaz Stix Mirror Chrome for a while with some reasonable success. I love to take a chrome lure and turn it gold by spraying it with a transparent yellow paint but, here I try something a bit different. Using UV cure resin I manage to get a really brilliant gold finish. #lures #luremaking #lurepainting #crankbait

    You really do a wonderful job bud!
    I really enjoy your perspective on the whole art of lure making.
    It's nice to see someone else that has that type of mind and that puts that much effort into understanding what you're doing!
    I do the same thing with everything and got into lure making a few months ago. Your videos have really helped with some of the things I have had questions on!
    Keep up the good work and thank you!

    I've seen some excellent results of mirror finish by polishing aluminium tape extensively. For the best results you should use polishing tools made of agat stone - they used in jewellery trade (bit pricey though :( )

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 года назад +1

      Great point! I have polished aluminum and I have made a video on doing it, and you're right, you get a pretty nice shine. The reason I don't do it is that when you have a high polish on the aluminum you can not get either a mechanical bond nor a chemical bond to your paint and final clear. That means the first time your finish gets stressed (fish bites it) it will peel off. Thank you so much for watching and your input, cheers.

    I’m using the mirror chrome and I’m hoping the spaz stix translucent gold spray paint won’t dull the mirror finish

    Nice upload buddy, I did a couple of tests with a chrome finish, total flops, although I have a new idea to try, as soon as my products arrive 👍 the best gold I've seen so far was done with silver foil then sprayed with an ink instead of paint, it looked really good!

    Great video. I’ve been wanting to do a gold lure and this certainly is a good looking way to do it! Still waiting on a video for how to build the lure bows....

      I keep meaning to do it but I want to film it while I build a bunch of new ones to replace some of the ones that are getting a bit old...and now ran out of wire. I'll will get to it one of these days. Thank you for watching.

    I wonder if putting a pearlescent ink in the resin. Would make a good top coat affect.
    Maybe worth a try for a realistic shimmer

      Pearlescent powder pigments work really well...just a pinch in the clear coat gives an iridescence that looks pretty cool.

    Do you have trouble With with bumps on the epoxy after drying? I use a heat gun and it goes away, however it looks like more develops while drying, any advice?

      I don't have those issues with the UV cure resin. And I have solved most of my clear coating issues and I have shared how on a couple of video. Here's the playlist you should check it out it might help you.

    Ok, now you made me curious about the durability of the finish over wax. I've never seen paint over wax.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 года назад +1

      It's actually an old modeler's trick and holds up very well. The acrylic in the floor wax is super hard and most paints stick to it really well.

      @@EngineeredAngler thank you! That's something I have to try. I use Bona on the wood floors and it's polyester based.

    On up cleat is it better to use a turner or just let them hang

    • @EngineeredAngler

      If you mean top coat...I prefer to turn the lure to get a more uniform coating.

  • @nickp9981

    I have watched your “chrome” vids with interest, thanks for making them. After the pledge goes on have you ever tried to hit the lure with a heat gun or polish it? I was also thinking if you did a few coats of the spaz chrome you may be able to use polishing compound on it to get a deeper reflection.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 года назад +1

      I don't know about heating the pledge...never tried. But the spaz Stix can't be polished no matter the number of coats. The initial buffing just takes off the overspray dust.
      Thanks for your input...and for watching.
