    How does this guy only have ~2K subs?
    Derek, if you see this. Thank you for making a realistic review from the standpoint of a typical gamer/content creator. Sometimes these types of reviews are much more approachable than an extremely in depth breakdown of every component of a piece of hardware. You got a sub from me, man!
    I have been on the fence for months regarding my next monitor and GPU purchase. Especially with the official prices of new GPUS from the recent NVIDIA announcement, I have been either looking at an 3080 paired with a HDR1000 Ultra-wide like the X35 / PG35VQ, or a 3090 paired with a ~$1000 monitor like your 34GN850, or even the ~$1500 38GL950. As much as I want make an impulsive purchase, I have to wait for benchmarks to see if the 3090 is worth over double the cost of the 3080.

    • @OMGItsDerek

      Oh I agree 100% lol. I just built a brand new system with a 2080 super and then two months later the 3000 series are announced. RIP lol. I can't wait to see what they are capable of.
      Also, ty for the kind words :)

    As a gamer i want to buy this ultrawide monitor but with the release of LG 27GN950 4K 144Hz i am hesitating now to choose between 4K or ultrawide monitor

    • @OMGItsDerek
      @OMGItsDerek  4 года назад

      I feel ya man. I struggled with that decision myself but I will say if you're also creating content the ultrawide has been amazing and now that I have an ultra-wide I could never see myself going backwards. Also I was looking for something that was at least 32 in in either aspect ratio.

      I'm currently running on a 27" 1080p 144hz panel and I'm looking to upgrade my monitor as I will probably be getting a 3000 series or rdna 2 gpu. For me I dont really have any interest in 4k because even the newer gpus won't really be able to run 4k much higher than 60fps, and im also quite happy with my current monitor but I'm sure ultrawide gaming will be a much greater jump up in immersion and experience than an increase in resolution. That's just my opinion right now and yours might be different, so I hope you find the right monitor for you!

    Good review - especially not too technical, as pure numbers and diagrams are fine - but in the end just that.
    This is one of the few reviews, where you actually get a good idea of '"how is it to live with it in the real world".
    And one of the decisive reviews pointing me in the right direction - so: thx for that. 👍
    Got this LG brand new a week ago - and can't be happier.
    Went from a dual setup with a HP X27i 144hz IPS (that can game, but primarily for work stuff) and a pretty high end, full G Sync Asus ROG STRIX 27" TN (for games only) to
    this LG as main for anything, and the HP X27i as side monitor in vertical mode (for tools, YT, stuff to read, extended workspace for work).
    Considering my first monitor in the 80ies was a 14" CRT with 4 colours and CGA resolution (320x200)....yep, things improved "a little bit" over time 😂
    Though of course true, in all seriousness: this puppy is really one of a kind, and literally does it all. It's not worse than more expensive highend gaming panels, not worse than more expensive work monitors - while offering plenty of crisp, clear and bright workspace with pretty accurate colours, and is really immersive/awesome in games too.
    Especially the colours (for work and play) are awesome, plus more than fast enough@144/160, great responsivness, no ghosting,tearing,smearing, so yep: a jack of all trades i never encountered before. Which makes it literally a bargain, despite its price.
    Though i use a top end 3090 model (Asus Strix OC), this setup is perfect.
    As 2 displays need oomph to be driven (and can give the full buttersmoth, hiccup free, and fast experience that way), and in 3440x1440 the 3090 can deliver (crazy) high framerates in any game, at any time, in any secnario, and any quality setting.
    Sure, wouldnt want to miss my 4k OLED TV for films and stuff - but PC wise, this LG is my perfect match.

    Did you have trouble getting used to 16:9 content consumption on this monitor? I am worried I won't be able to get used to the giant black bars on both sides. I know ultrawide support is starting to get way better in gaming but some older titles or console ports still don't support it and a lot of video content is also still 16:9. Like when you play Fall Guys for instance, do the black bars bother you at all?
    Oh and the LG 27GL850 is pretty much the same monitor but 16:9 so for a gaming and content creation package that could also work but ultrawide is just so sexy.

    • @OMGItsDerek
      @OMGItsDerek  4 года назад +2

      The only time it bothers me actually is when I'm watching RUclips videos lol. In gaming it doesn't. I guess because you get me n to the gaming and then kinda get consumed more. Also, there are ways to get most games, even if they don't support it, to be ultrawide. Like fall guys for example. Quick reddit searches will normally tell you which config file to change to do it.

      @@OMGItsDerek Ah good to know there are other solutions if games don't have native support. • @OMGItsDerek
      @OMGItsDerek  4 года назад +1

      If all you do is game, there are definitely better monitors for a better price out there. With that said, I've not personally had an issue with the contrast but I'm not a die-hard monitor person. Unless you are and have tested lots of different monitors and know exactly what bad contrast looks like, you probably won't notice either. But again, if you just game, I wouldn't recommend this monitor.

    • @j.anderson4277
      @j.anderson4277 4 года назад

      @@OMGItsDerek Ahhh got it - what would you recommend if I was trying to go the Ultrawide route but only use the monitor for gaming? I was looking at this specific one at rtings.com gave it a pretty high rating - for gaming :)

    • @OMGItsDerek
      @OMGItsDerek  4 года назад

      If I was going strictly gaming ultrawide and wasn't worrying about budgets of any kind I'd probs get the Asus ROG PG35VQ. Obviously if you give me better ideas on this like budget and what exactly you want out of a monitor I could possibly give a more specific recommendation but just what would I choose and I wasn't concerned about content creation. It would probs be that one. Or maybe one of the new samsung Odysseys.

    • @j.anderson4277
      @j.anderson4277 4 года назад

      @@OMGItsDerek very cool and thanks for the response! I was looking at the Asus and the Odysseys...only thing that concerns about the Samsung is I have read they have g-sync issues and some folks really do not like the curve - seems like it is pretty extreme!

    • @OMGItsDerek
      @OMGItsDerek  4 года назад +1

      Yeah, I've heard that from a few people, but anyone I know personally who has one of the odysseys love it and have not had problems with g-sync. So if it is an issue, I don't think it's actually that big of one and maybe was just a few affected monitors. Also, I tend to believe most people out there that talk trash on any product is probably just talking trash. One reviewer will say the monitor had g-sync issues and the next thing you know everyone is running around in comments everywhere saying the monitor has g-sync issues making it seem way more crazy than it actually is. The curve, I'm not sure about. I like curves personally so I think it's just a personal taste type thing. I think they get you more immersed in the content personally. Maybe go to best buy where you can see one in action and see if the curve is something that bothers you or not!

    Did yours have more of a yellow tint to it out of the box? And is your hdr just a yellow hue screen when you turn it on in Windows? Sucks when hdr mode is on lg blocks out every single setting besides brightness and sharpness... So I’m stuck forever with a yellow hdr experience. It’s my second one and they both have had this yellow hue.. I don’t know what to do

    • @OMGItsDerek

      @@OMGItsDerek I’ve learned to like hdr 400 because of my f127q works so dang well for only being 400. Brings some games to life. But you’re lucky then. Your hdr mode is a cool color then? If I could adjust the colors I could get rid of that yellow hue but lg locked them out for some reason... My 400 dollar 65” hdr tv that’s super budget at least let’s me correct the colors why can’t a $1,000 monitor?... extremely upsetting... I just don’t know if it’s normal. I’m slightly color blind but my wife also sees a yellow hue as well so I know it’s not me lol We hooked it up to her pc and my old gaming pc and it’s the same thing. Tried hdmi tried a different display cable nothing works to get rid of the tint. Even found out about the service menu you can get into by using the joy stick and no settings in there helped either. Allowed me to change the color values of srgb but not hdr.

      @@OMGItsDerek I can but to hide the yellow it was hard. I had to reduce the green gamma and then the whites would look reddish. Then I would reduce the red and then it would look to like purple almost. And that was just with one flick of the scroll wheel which would drop it only 5%. But anyways I fixed it. So i have had multiple different monitors through out the years and my system saved all the drivers for those but I noticed the driver that was installed and in use for my monitor had no info about it being a lg monitor or anything. So deleted all the monitor driver files and went to the website for lg and downloaded the display driver for my mode directly and installed it. And now hdr actually works. I reset my nivida control panel back to factory being like you said I had to adjust the color gammas. But now it looks so good! I can’t explain how much weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Hdr looks like my aorus and now in bfv, bf1 and call of duty m.w look like it used to for me. I love it! I can’t believe it was a drivers issue. I’ve never had that problem before but thankfully I can finally stop searching ways to fix it and finally play some games with normal colors again lol no more super warm colors and finally some actual nice colors lol Thank you for taking the time to respond and help me. I will say tho, just to cover all bases, that personally, I did not overclock my panel and I don't run it at the fastest setting which offers the 1ms because as I said in the video it offers it's own issues like ghosting and duplicating objects slightly sometimes. @@OMGItsDerek So 2160p in 21:9 ratio

    • @OMGItsDerek
      @OMGItsDerek  4 года назад

      Exactly. so it would actually be a higher pixel ratio then normal 4k but will still allow you to enjoy 4k content like movies and such and even games if you're going to be having a 3080Ti and it lives up to what they are claiming!

    Yo Guys/GirlsI just ordered the 950 for 800 should I return it and get this model instead?!? =o ill be gaming and creating new content.

    • @OMGItsDerek
      @OMGItsDerek  4 года назад +1

      Just depends on your needs and wants. Both are a great monitor in my opinion, but I think the 950 is slightly better for content creation as the colors tend to be a touch more accurate

      Honestly don't know much about ips glow, but I will say that looks more like a camera thing then from the monitor!

    Is this monitor good for xbox series x

    • @OMGItsDerek
      @OMGItsDerek  4 года назад +1

      No, this is an ultra-wide which the Xbox will not run-in most likely from my understanding. You'll want something in normal 16x9 ratio

      I think they have their place still, but ips are def catching up in speed and I think overall works better for me for content creation as well :)

      If your PC is only worth $1k, this isn't the monitor for you.

    • @OMGItsDerek
      @OMGItsDerek  4 года назад +1

      Very true, not even meaning as a flex, but with a 1k system you're not even going to be using the monitor up to its ability and will just be wasting money
