Of course the comparison tool on the LG's website is nearly useless, but even there it looked identical. Really appreciate the "3rd-party" confirmation on this. Thanks again!
My 34GP83A just arrived today. It's a beautiful monitor! As for the similarity to the 34GN850... it's not similar. IT'S THE EXACT SAME MONITOR. Except for the branding molded into the plastic on the back. Amazon first listed the new 34GP83A for $799 but after a few days it jumped up to $850, which is where it's priced now. Even for the extra $50, it's still $150 off what the identical GN850 panel is selling for right now and definitely worth it.
I picked up the g850 2 days ago @micro center... and then I saw this yesterday at PC Partpicker, sorry but I’m saving $160 from the same panel, returning the 1000 piece of glass. Thanks for clearing things up (it can even still OC to 160htz)
Great Video Comparison. My LG34GP83A-B gets delivered tomorrow. I have plenty of cables and would have thrown the cable box out anyway. For Me, it is well worth the $200 savings. 😎👍

Thanks, Sean! I just ordered the 83A for $800 based on your video. BUT, the 850 is now down to $797! So maybe they are slowly trying to phase out the older model. I know I will only get 1 vs 2 DP cables based on your terrific video but that is not a concern. What I do wonder is if they made any "running changes" internally after having manufactured the 850 for a while. But at a $3 difference, I ordered the newer one hoping that the newer one is more up to date besides the external cosmetics and accessories.
Bought the 34GN850-B in UK a week ago. It has that new "UG" logo at the back, the new OSD and the accessories box with one cable of each. Don't think the 34GP83A exists in Europe.
LG did something similar, and even their employees could answer their question! I did a comparison between the LG-3488UC vs. the LG-3498UC, and the one was about 200 dollars cheaper, the only difference was the stand and the extra charging port in the rear. The panel was exactly the same, and it was about 200.00 cheaper, but LG didn't know the difference themselves when I called them about it. One was white the other was black also... But anyways, they really do like to recycle monitors just to and rename it... and charge more! I'm rocking the 850 right now, But I bought it refurbished from Best Buy a couple weeks back for 880+ tax. hmm... oh well.. too much hassle I suppose..
Great video, but on Amazon it shows the new one being cheaper? Also, both links show the same images? i.e. I cant tell the older one from the new one. The logo on the back is the same on both amazon links. This is very confusing... ?

Have you gamed with it what graphics card do you have idk if you said it I didn’t hear how does it hold up on your pc you think a rtx 2070 can play games at full res
I’m using an RTX 3080 so of course it’s beasting everything. I would say a 1080/Ti or 2070+ could do most AAA stuff full res 60+ and for esports games, you could probably get away with a 1660ti or something. If you do drop a few frames, it has g-sync and freesync though 👍
Hey Sean! I got the display, and love it! It is really, really nice! I wanted to both thank you and also ask a follow up question... I do notice (when the screen is totally black) that I have some backlight bleed coming from the 4 corners. Its not worth trying to take a photo of.. (because the exposure of the camera will make it look different) but, wanted to simply ask you if this is something that you too have seen on this panel? I am aware of the IPS ghosting effect, where when you move and look at the screen it can change a bit.. but, this is different. Its not noticeable at all in normal use, only when looking for a problem, lol. I noticed it when I was looking for any dead pixels. I figured, since you have one there.. you would be the person to ask and check :-) Thanks so much Sean!
Thanks for this comparison, I was looking for answers regarding the differences between the two. I have one question, on LG's website it says the 34GN850 supports HDMI connection for 3440 x 1440 for 10 bit at 85Hz. I'm wondering if the GP83A-B has the same support. Both have 2 HDMI 2.0 inputs so I would expect there should be no difference. If you can confirm this that'll be great.
Thanks for the reply. I ended up getting the GP83A-B. I hooked up my work laptop to it through HDMI (used the Display Port for my desktop) but with 3440 x 1440 it only supports up to 50Hz refresh rate. I think it's probably because my work laptop's graphics can't support anything more than that. So I adjusted it down to 2560 x 1080 which can run a refresh rate up to 75Hz.
Great review! I have the older brother LG 34UC79G-B since lauch. What is the difference , beside the pixel density (resolution) . I heard good and bad things about nanoIPS
Tech With Sean hello again,I bought this monitor,Do you really think that this monitor is no different from the gn850? I only care about the image quality, is it the same on both monitors?thank u
Hello, great comparison! I just purchased the LG 34GP83A from Amazon and you mentioned that it only came with 1 display port. I'm pretty new at this and this might be a dumb question but what cable do i need to buy in order for it to work seamlessly with a 2018 Macbook pro, Xbox one and possible for the new Xbox series X thats coming out (I know that the series X is HDMI 2.1 and this is HDMI 2.0). Thanks again!
Paolo A. - I honestly don’t know about high refresh on the new consoles. They may require hdmi 2.1. If you’re really getting a monitor for consoles though, I think a non-ultrawide may be better because I don’t think consoles do 21:9 resolutions
@@TechWithSean but there's only one DisplayPort available :/ so Mac book on HDMI, do you get 60 hz with MacBook on HDMI?, I'm curious, looking to get this monitor too
I owned both and your right the 34GP83A-B does have better contrast as well as better color uniformity. Light bleed is almost non existent in the corners.
Alright, I need some buying decision suggestions: First things first, great video! I’m trying to decide between the Samsung 32 inch G7 Odyssey or this LG 34GP83A-B. Apparently the G7 had some screen flickering issues, but as of 2 weeks ago with the latest software update, this is no longer a problem. That was my only concern with the G7. But now I’m eyeing this LG monitor and I just can’t decide. Right now, this LG is $100.00 more ... What do you guys think??
Great vid, exactly what I needed. Curious, do you think one 34inch ultrawide is enough for your set up? Or would you include a secondary smaller monitor for productivity / gaming?
I think you helped me on figuring out which 32" 16:9 1440p to get, 32GP850-B vs 32GP83B-B. Really, they seem the same specs except the 32GP850-B list a 180Hz OC. Otherwise, both are 165Hz. Again, the 32GP83B-B $100 cheaper than the 32GP850-B and the 32GP83B-B is available in stock at my local bestbuy.
Nice review! I actually have the same monitor as yours. How's the IPS glow on your monitor? I wanted to compare since mine has noticeable glow on 4 corners particularly on dark scenes. I understand that IPS panels will have this due to its technology but I'm not sure how bad is bad. Thanks!

I know its been a year but from amazon prime day i was able to get the gp83a for $669! I would wait out for the Alienware QD OLED but its very expensive and wont get it for atleast 2 months, not to mention many people are having issues with it and you cant even update the firmware!
I just saw this and bought immediately. I didn’t want to pay for the gn model. What color settings do you use?
The LG on the back of the monitor is actually UG for UltraGear
Mine has a little also, I think it’s typical for curved IPS monitors.
Thats pretty standard for hdmi 2.0
I just ordered one.
this review was def what i was looking for, I love LG or samsung their screens are amazing and bright but i didn't know the diff between 850 83A.
Hello, what can u say about lg 34 gp83a?what about image quality, can you watch movies on it? do you think it is much worse than alienware 3420w?
I think it is better than the Alienware. You can definitely watch movies on this
Tech With Sean hello again,I bought this monitor,Do you really think that this monitor is no different from the gn850? I only care about the image quality, is it the same on both monitors?thank u
@@starkl1371 it should be its the exact same panel.
Xbox - HDMI
PC - use DisplayPort
Macbook - you should be able to find a usb-c to DisplayPort adapter
@@TechWithSean So for the Xbox series X just purchase a compatible HDMI cable for this monitor in order to achieve the 144hz?
Paolo A. - I honestly don’t know about high refresh on the new consoles. They may require hdmi 2.1. If you’re really getting a monitor for consoles though, I think a non-ultrawide may be better because I don’t think consoles do 21:9 resolutions
@@p.a.618 no ultra wide support on new systems! Be advised❤️
@@TechWithSean but there's only one DisplayPort available :/ so Mac book on HDMI, do you get 60 hz with MacBook on HDMI?, I'm curious, looking to get this monitor too
Thank you you just saved me $200
can you play some games on them and see how they perform?
Perfect. Clean. Clear. Short. To the Point of what we want to know. WHAT'S THE DIFF. TY
I owned both and your right the 34GP83A-B does have better contrast as well as better color uniformity. Light bleed is almost non existent in the corners.
I got the new one with the Red LG logo on the back in a 34gn850 box.
It also has the 34gp83a menu font.
Are you in Europe? I heard of someone over there having that same thing happen
@@TechWithSean No USA. I got it about 2 months ago.
Oh crazy! Where did you order from?
@@TechWithSean I bought it at MicroCenter
Hello! A quick question none of them have speakers?? Thanks!
Nope neither one has speakers, just a headphone jack.
@@TechWithSean oh thanks! I love the Monitor I think I'll buy the 83 A-B but then also a nice speakers, do you recommend any?? thanks!
Why is this the only review out there of this monitor? Is the supply suuuuper limited or something? :D
It just got released last week maybe there will be more reviews up soon? 🤷♂️
Does the lighting on the back work the same on both?
I think only the 38” has RGB on the back, these do not
Alright, I need some buying decision suggestions:
First things first, great video!
Also, not that it matters all that much, but does this 34 inch have the RGB lighting ring on the back?
Are AMD's 5700 XT and upcoming 6800 XT compatible with the 34GN850?
Yes indeed 👍
Thats a great saving. I assume you are sending the other one back ?
Yep, they wouldn’t adjust the price, so they told me to just return the GN850 and buy this on a new transaction.
The only difference between those 2 32” monitors is the GN has USB ports.
Do both of these lack built in speakers?
Yes
Nice review! I actually have the same monitor as yours. How's the IPS glow on your monitor? I wanted to compare since mine has noticeable glow on 4 corners particularly on dark scenes. I understand that IPS panels will have this due to its technology but I'm not sure how bad is bad. Thanks!
so the people that said it doesnt have wide color gamut is a lie or no? please let me know before i buy it
I don’t have any fancy color testing equipment, but I am running it at 10 bit 144hz.
Tech With Sean are the colors exactly the same or is there one monitor that color is more saturated? like the 27gl83a and the 27gl850? heres a link ruclips.net/video/asmwd979VLs/видео.html
When I had them hooked up side by side, they looked 100% the same to me.
Tech With Sean alright thanks
Hey Sean I want to request you to make a video on how to install adrenalines drivers for bootscamp for macbook pro 16 as you are the only one I trust and their is no video to how to install these drivers pls help me pls make a video
Wow I just bought the 850 for $999, than I see this new one on amazon today and have been going crazy trying to compare the specs. Should I take my 850 back? IS IT WORTH THE HASSLE? LG, Y U DO DIS?
