I think it's just that progressive rock is a narrow field not for everyone, too complex. Supertramp sure has its hardcore fan group and has sold in the range of 75 million albums. Their records have been on rotation in my place for forty years.

Goodbye Stranger is my favorite, but lyrically please also react to the “Logical song”. I think you’ll enjoy both. Supertramp is an amazing band with many hits and the songs are different because they had two totally different writers. Also these albums had top tier producers. Also there is a great 1978 concert in Paris if you want to see live. Goodbye Stranger from that concert is amazing.

Supertramp existed on the fringes of progressive rock in their early years. Discarding their 1st 2 albums, their next 3 - Crime of the Century, Crisis? What Crisis? and Even in the Quietest Moments are staples for FM classic rock. Growing up in Montreal, one of the first places to embrace them after the release of Crime of the Century, they are rock royalty here. Breakfast in America may be their most commercially successful album, but it was also somewhat of a departure from their earlier work in an attempt to break into the American market. Not to put down that album or the few that followed, but, it is a different vibe and certainly a different band following the departure of Roger Hodgson. In my opinion, Crime of the Century is in the conversation for greatest rock albums of all time.

Supertramp was a great band with so many great songs. To those of us that were there we just considered them a rock band. I never heard these bands labeled progressive until a couple years ago. We just considered them rock bands. Some favorites: Crime of the Century, Give a Little Bit, Rudy and From Now On but many more. BTW the album on your display is one of the greatest records ever. RIP Marvin..

I have said this before but it bears repeating.....
The 1970s AM and FM radio airwaves were FULL...so full of amazing music!
    Mainstream radio spoiled us!

His vocals starting at about 3:15 are so expressive, so emotionally beautiful.

First discovered *Supertramp* unintentionally. Expecting *Ted Nugent* in a 10,000 seat concert arena, but I was *one of only twelve* that bought tickets to their *"Even In the Quietest Moments"* tour. Most professional band - performed full setlist, plus encored us with unreleased songs from *"Breakfast in America"* album. Live Concert or Studio Recording - sound quality equally the same, very rare!

I bought it that day. The B side was a good too. Made me head into old Jazz because I loved the sound of it, in the way Led Zeppelin had me getting into old Blues because I loved that too. So many good Supertramp songs to explore. One of their lesser known hits worth hitting is “Sister Moonshine,” probably the only rock song you will hear with a piccolo solo. There has been a long debate whether they should be labeled “prog” or not. I don’t think they are, though they have elements of prog, and many prog fans like them. Impeccable musicianship, writing, and production.
