It was only a question of time before you locked on to this Tramp masterpiece- for me this has all the attributes that make them a class act on every level. Keep up the good work guys!
You guys giving this old guy the same joy I felt over 40 years ago when these great songs became part of my soul. But listening with you guys now is like pulling out albums with a friend for the first time.
An amazing group, an even more amazing song. I had to pleasure of seeing them often in the 1970s and 1980s. This group was one of the first groups that were fussy about their sound, even their live concerts sounded like this. Prior to them most groups played a loud, highly distorted, ear-bleeding version of their album cuts; these guys concerts sound exactly like their albums.
On stage, when Roger is done playing the piano, he walks across the stage to another keyboard while Rick switches from organ to the piano. Saw it in 1977.
Same, saw them in 77 by accident. Expecting to see *Ted Nuggent* but this unknown band name on the marque. *Even in the Quietest Moments tour* in Victoria BC Canada. I was *one of only twelve* at this 10k seat arena. Most professional sounding live band with integrity. Performed entire set-list plus encored with unreleased songs from their next album. (Breakfast in America)
I had a cheapo turntable and speakers in college, and i played Even In The Quietest Moments over and over, studying. I seriously credit it with helping me through all 4 years. 😊
W5 first aired in 1966, 2 years before 60 Minutes started. It aired for 59 years.....Fools Overture became the theme song from the late 70's until the mid 80's
I grew up with Supertramp because of my dad mostly, and I always felt this song was weird in a way (it grew on me tho), and it took years for me to fully appreciate it, now I'm just in awe of it. Btw you guys are really awesome, a real look at music for what it is
"We shall never surrender!" The Garden, The Spectrum, Tower Theater.... Great band and "Fools Overture" still creates goosebumps and is fresh as the day this album was released.. Thank you for the review gentlemen!! Love your work guys!!
The music draws the picture of the times perfectly. The lyrics add the colour. The emotions you feel listening represents the emotions the people of the UK felt during this period. 10/10.
A very under rated band. They really are some fantastic performers. Are they in the RRHOF??? Or they on the perpetual waiting list like Bad Company, Jethro Tull, Free and Three Dog Night?
You misunderstand what an "overture" is: An Overture is (generally) an introductory segment at the head of a longer piece (including symphonies, sometimes -or operatic works, musical theatre (maybe), even films (sometimes), etc., et al.). The overture quotes the main themes from many or most or, even, all of the forthcoming segments (movements, etc.); so as to familiarize the audience/listeners with the upcoming musical themes, in advance (and perhaps give an overview of the overall "emotional journey" of the enitrety). It's express purpose is: to express & introduced musical themes (generally melodic, but can also be: rhythmic or otherwise, also) which will be expressed/repeated in the upcoming work.
Live Concerts very little difference in sound quality. Not sure how they're able to do this in sports arenas but none have matched their live sound to-date for me.
GUY'S YOU NEED TO CHECK OUT THE ALBUM "CRIME OF THE CENTRY " EVERY SONG IS A MASTERPIECE, ROLLING STONE RATED THIS VINYL CLASSIC 354 OUT OF THE 500 GREATEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME, YOU LOVED THE SONG CRIME OF THE CENTRY WHEN YOU REVIEWED IT, YOU'LL DEFINITELY LOVE EVERY SONG ON THIS PROGRESSIVE SAMPLE OF MUSIC AT ITS BEST 🔊📯🎷🎸🎹🎺🎻🥁🎤🎼🎵🎶
An overture is the first piece of a larger musical composition, such as an opera or a concerto. That's why it contains a bunch of different movements, it's previewing all of the sections to follow in the piece. A good example of this, in a modern production , is The Who's 1969 epic Tommy, their Overture on that containing little snippets of all the songs that will follow in the overall piece (plus a later, kick-ass 'Underture' for good measure!). I don't think Supertramp really leaned into this idea on this song/album , but it's still a fucking masterpiece regardless
I purchased this album as a teenager. I wasn't patient or sophisticated enough to embrace this track then. As I've gotten older, it's one of my favorites.
They recorded the Album even in the quitest moments on a mountaintop outside of Denver. What they didn't realize was that the thin air in the mountains makes your voice go weird. They invited opera singer friends for the bombastik chorus in fools ouverture and the band wasnt pleased at all with the outcome. Still, i dont know what they mean😅, its just brillant i love Supertramp
With Supertramp you never knew when the song would end. Also, at times, one had to wait for the vocals to chime in. Lasty, many of their songs had a movie like sound to them where a story was being told.
"Stadium Music" Oh yes, you are so right. Just what I was thinking. But these guys can also give us a vibe, a mood, like anything Genesis or Pink Floyd could conjure up.
In the Netherlands there was a radio station called Veronica that used to loop the keayboard middle section of this song as they read the list of concerts that were taking place that week. tatataada tatatada tatataadatatadatatada.. fond memories and of this whole composition.
Supertramp Live in Paris is the best concert I never went to, miles ahead of their time and what a monumental shame Roger and Rick could never mend their differences enough to reform after the split
There's a video that goes along with this song ... perspective is from a Go Pro camera on a kayaker's helmut. VERY well done and complimentary to the music. Well worth a watch/listen.
Live version from " Paris " is even better. Roger Hodgson as a solo artist has a live version with an orchestra, well worth a listen. Must listens from the Even In The Quietest Moments album: Lover Boy Even In The Quietest Moments Babaji From Now On
When this album was new, I'd play it alone on my room. Headphones on, the only light in the room was from my stereo. Spliff in hand (back then, it just made you feel calm and mellow), I'd sit in bed and just listen from one end of the album to the other. There's not a bad song on the entire album but, when Fool's Overture came on, it was an experience.
Do the entire album please. Lover Boy and From Now On I still listen to regularly. One of my favourite memories is hot boxing my brothers truck and listening to this on his JVC tape deck. 80s hash and a pipe… good times. ✌️🇨🇦
OMG - finally a reaction to one of the greatest songs of all time. Epic on so many levels. You might think the term "Overture" is a pompous or arrogant term to describe one's own music. Until you hear this masterpiece.
This song needs you to close your eyes and imagine the days in war and the losses. Past family members who have suffered. It brings me to tears. It was even more live in concert.
One of their best songs, Roger had several fragments of the song already but it too years to put it all together. I loved to play it on the piano when I was in high school. Even in the Queitest Moments is regarded as their third best albums of their carreer after Crime of the Century and Breakfast in America. Together with Crisis what Crisis these 4 albums are considered the classic high phase of the band.
Applaud you guys listening to this old stuff. For me, 63, drummer for 52 yrs, saw them once. Best sound over Tull, Yes, there was a pattern. British bands sounded better. Then you had Ted. 100k+ watts a side. Eventually sat in the back.
I love y'all's channel! I'm in Texas, I'm an old musician. You gentlemen would LOVE Junior Brown...he's a guitarist unlike anything you've ever heard, a fabulous, funny songwriter and a great singer. Here are a few of his songs: "My Wife Thinks You're Dead!" ruclips.net/video/DaEzT5MusFs/видео.html "Venom Wearing Denim" ruclips.net/video/_xYIl2HTxr4/видео.html "Highway Patrol" ruclips.net/video/55I5vuVKMfU/видео.html
This one does seem to go on a bit too long for me these days, but it’s still an amazing piece of work. I love the little snippet of “Dreamer” from Crime of the Century they throw in towards the end. I thought Chi was either bored or really stoned through the whole thing. 😂
Guys!! You are awesome!! PLEASE PLEASE listen to Tool. You will be blown away! PLEASE Listen to Reflections. Or 46&2 or The Pot or stinkfist. Dude. Guys you will not regret it. I just watched your reactions to Pink Floyd(my all time favorite band) and I KNOW you will LOVE THEM. I PROMISE YOU
' "Barefoot Servants" is a rockin' blues band headed by a brother named John Butcher. He's CRIMINALLY under-recognized...he's a fabulous, soulful singer, a surreal guitarist a greta songwriter...here are a few of Barefoot Servants tunes...there's lots more, this'll get y'all rollin': "Foolish Behavior" ruclips.net/video/ctB8X-jRuPc/видео.html "Bound For Glory" ruclips.net/video/jZPi6Uvu3_U/видео.html " Love's Made A Fool" ruclips.net/video/MT3q0Gc9a3k/видео.html
Great song, band, album. The incidental anti-fascist sentiment is much appreciated. Question: Why does it always cost so much? Talk about taking the long way. ✌🏼🙄🎶❤️🍁🔥✨️🕊
Ugh. That dragged for me. I never listen to this off of this album; instead I always play it off of the Live in Paris album. The tempo on the Live/Paris album is peppier and the vocal climax is better. (And I don't ever see the video of this song in concert; it''s a clown show at the end for this one song. And mixed differently.) Do the Live ALBUM when you hear it again for yourselves.)
If you aren't playing your own album, on RUclips, I think the Paris version on the channel Supertramp Official has better sound quality than the older one with more clicks on it. I don't know if people have noticed that the newer post is up. Seems to be better sound quality to my ears.
It was only a question of time before you locked on to this Tramp masterpiece- for me this has all the attributes that make them a class act on every level. Keep up the good work guys!
Ya Bloody Well Right!🎼🤠🎶
Oh the nights spent lying on my bedroom floor with headphones on, with this masterpiece taking me to places I have never reached again and never will.
This isn't a song...it's a sonic event. Beautiful...
Stellar musicians. Great live band.
Love you guys!
You guys giving this old guy the same joy I felt over 40 years ago when these great songs became part of my soul. But listening with you guys now is like pulling out albums with a friend for the first time.
@@thomashanna8759 that’s exactly the feeling we are trying to give people!! Thanks for rocking with us!!
Absolutely incredible, this song is a masterpiece.
Another masterpiece
Loved Even in the quietest moments
My favorite Supertramp song. What a vibe!
This song gives me goosebumps....World War 2 Britain Churchill........amazing

Prior to them most groups played a loud, highly distorted, ear-bleeding version of their album cuts; these guys concerts sound exactly like their albums.
One of the best sounding concerts I ever saw. Back then, Tull, Yes, sounded great, too.
Supertramp were A tremendous experience live and this track was emotionally charged , so wonderful to share it with other concert goers.

Even in the Quietist Moments Supertramp were geniuses
This synth part was the theme to one of our national newscasts in Canada. Hugely popular band here (esp. before Breakfast In America).
I think it was W5, if memory serves me correctly. Great show, amazing band, saw them twice, unforgettable.👍🇨🇦
W5..
I remember.
W5 first aired in 1966, 2 years before 60 Minutes started. It aired for 59 years.....Fools Overture became the theme song from the late 70's until the mid 80's
A TRUE MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!!!! Took Roger Hodgson over 5 years to compose fully.
Wow! I saw them at the Spectrum in Philly on The Breakfast in America tour. AMAZING!!
I saw them 3 times in Seattle back then. This song live is a masterpiece!!
The music draws the picture of the times perfectly. The lyrics add the colour. The emotions you feel listening represents the emotions the people of the UK felt during this period. 10/10.
Very appropriate choice for the state of things around us. Thanks guys
Back in day I wasn’t really “into” them. Tx to you guys as an old head im getting to appreciate them now!!! Tx fellas 👊
Even in the Quietest Moments, From Now On and Babaji are great too off this album
Yes and I think Lover Boy is great too
A very under rated band. They really are some fantastic performers. Are they in the RRHOF??? Or they on the perpetual waiting list like Bad Company, Jethro Tull, Free and Three Dog Night?

10th grade. So many memories...
Thanks, guys...❤
this song is what you call a true sonic adventure.
My favourite Supertramp song.
Thanks La and Che, love this track and this album. Please do the title track next "Even in the Quietest Moments".
This is one of the albums I used to test the fidelity of my equipment during that time period.
Had the "Audiophile Vinyl Edition" and worked in a hi-fi store. Life was good.
Live Concerts very little difference in sound quality. Not sure how they're able to do this in sports arenas but none have matched their live sound to-date for me.
Wooo lord luvs ducks finally I've Been waiting for you guys to hear this masterpiece! Big Ben, Churchhill's speech too
Ha! I just watched "Lord Love A Duck" 1966 (Roddy McDowell / Tuesday Weld)
Yes I saw them in concert, during the mid eighties
They sounded flawless, just like their albums.

Why SUPERTRAMP isn't in the RRHF is beyond me, Incredible band😅😊
Insane

Great stuff and cinematic with the sounds of uprising, war, England and almost religious references.
Crime of the century is another great one
I purchased this album as a teenager. I wasn't patient or sophisticated enough to embrace this track then. As I've gotten older, it's one of my favorites.
So true
They recorded the Album even in the quitest moments on a mountaintop outside of Denver. What they didn't realize was that the thin air in the mountains makes your voice go weird.

This album is killer!!
Great song great album
You guys got me yo dig out my Supertramp albums again. I used to hide them when I went through my punk phase 😂
"Stadium Music" Oh yes, you are so right. Just what I was thinking. But these guys can also give us a vibe, a mood, like anything Genesis or Pink Floyd could conjure up.
Ah Supertramp - they impacted me mightily when this album first came out. There are no words. The song "School" is also worth admiring.
In the Netherlands there was a radio station called Veronica that used to loop the keayboard middle section of this song as they read the list of concerts that were taking place that week. tatataada tatatada tatataadatatadatatada.. fond memories and of this whole composition.
W5 (show) in Canada used the same piece for their theme.
Excellent reaction, fellas!!
It’s like a movie soundtrack isn’t it? Always love this whole album (along with all the others)
Another throwback to my early teens! We were huge fans of these guys from the first album and this was another great one. Thanks for the memories!
I bought the album for this song. And I loved figuring out some of the piano parts.
A masterpiece!
The bass on this is just stellar. What a build-up.....worthy of Churchill.
What a voice! Thank you for doing this song.

Babaji

Great pick guys!! Dont hear this one much anymore….babaji is a game changer by this group!!!
SawbRoger and his band play this to about 50,000 fans in Quebec City. They love Supertramp in Quebec.
The best Supertramp album.
Crime of the Century, IMO.
Crime and Breakfast, plus this one, was their sweet spot.
Crisis, Crime, Moments, there all right there
@@j.h.3777 This is a Coke-Pepsi argument. May it never be resolved!
Peak Surpertramp.
Love it!
At last. Thank you.
This is also classic music.
Che had a look of surprise and excitement on his face at the beginning of this video. Am I to take it that hes a big fan of Supertramp?
I love them both.
Look for it live with a full Orchestra...Amazing!!
Overture=Progressive rock.
I’ve been waiting for this!!
Very 70's band
Oh shit.. you guys haven't even gotten to "Take the Long Way Home" yet. Whoa, their best IMO.
Wore this album out
Remember getting the "Audiophile" version of the record.
from now on ,much better for me

Was hoping you’d do the album in order. You’ll find your way though.

LONG OVERDUE: Marcus King Band- Virginia (live), Rita’s Gone (In the Van), Side Door (In the Van)
No one sounds like them
The following comment will make me sound even older than my 55 years, but I don't envision music like this will ever be made again.
Please, you guys…have a listen to BIRDLAND by The Manhattan Transfer
Great song, band, album.
The incidental anti-fascist sentiment is much appreciated.
Question: Why does it always cost so much?
Talk about taking the long way.
