I keep saying it over and over again but these guys are the most UNDERRATED rock group of ALL time ! :)
Ner a truer statement.Up there with Floyd,Tull,Yes,Genesis for sure.
Underrated? I beg to differ. Supertramp was huge!
Huge and still underrated! That's how amazing they are@@MotorcycleImaging
The best are always underrated.
@@MotorcycleImaging Back in the day they were, but not long after BIA faded they fell into relative obscurity & indifference. Especially among the used record stores I noticed they wouldn't buy any Supertramp albums. Was strange, & sad, but true. Nowadays though, seems many younger people found them, & loved them to death!
I feel so lucky to be old enough to be alive when all of this music was first released. Happy for you that you found it. There is so much more to discover.
Me too 👍
Yes. So many profound memories. I was 16 in 76 and quickly purchased all their recordings. I've added solo recordings of the band members recently.
Yes! The 70's was a magical time to be young and alive.
I was introduced to Supertramp with " Indelibly stamped" and never turned back.
Absolute geniuses with songs that touch your whole soul.
Simple...this song is a Masterpiece. I can listen to this song over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over...Magical and uplifting...Great reaction. Stay safe. Peace to you both.
This may not technically be their best song, but it hits me harder where it counts, more than their other songs. A soul- travel song for sure!
Yes, all of the above.
People say I'm stuck in the 70's. And bands like Supertramp are the reason why. If you want to keep on this album listen to Fool's Overture
Oh yea... a masterpiece!
Also, From Now On, the last half of the song where Rick and Roger are singing alternately is sublime. Guess I'll always have to be, (Guess I'll always have to be) .....
This was my favorite Supertramp L.P. , Fool's Overture although short in lyric is a magnum opus.
The arrangement of this sound is beyond anazing. You can feel the movement of the music. Production value off the charts. Bass line so subtle but so critical to pull it together
Supertramp is one of my favourite bands ever. There is an interview with Rodger Hodgson on the channel 'Top 2000 a gogo' here on youtube, and at the end he sits down in a forest with his 12-string and does a part of this song. It's as magical with just him and his guitar - that's how you can tell if a song is really good.
Dougie Thompson was incredible on all the Supertramp records. An incredibly gifted bass player...so tasteful.
That initial pedal bass starting with a percussion hit?
I've been listening to this song since 1978. And I can just tell you that I was so glad to see the tears shed, because I've been drawn to tears by this song regularly for over 40 years. It's unavoidable.
And yes, masterpiece. The other masterpiece on this album is of course Fool's Overture. Not as much a tearjerker, but more of a feeling of awe & wow, because of it's awesomeness & wowsomeness!
Supertramp the most criminally underrated band of all time, I just love it when young people appreciate the music of my younger days.
This and Fools Overture are my favorite Supertramp cuts. Roger Hodgson is a genius. Beautiful.
It's even better today than it was in 77. How is that even possible?
What a beautiful beautiful song, how have I gone 52 years without hearing this?
Their music is both majestic and rapturous. Isn’t it lovely how artists can capture us.
This is not a song. It's a spiritual experience.
My father passed away in 2010 unexpectedly of a heart attack he was only 56. My father loved Supertramp and he played this song on guitar so well. He loved the Beatles so much we had imagine playing on piano for him at his funeral. On my day when my turn to leave this vessel comes I wish for This song to play for Me. I can’t even get through hearing the first 30 seconds of this track without fission and my eyes full of tears. I miss my Dad so much I wish we had more time together but I cherish All the memories. I have so much they are my life’s treasure. You become the star… is that what you are Dear?
Listened to Supertramp since college days. Even In The Quietest Moments is to me, the epitome of their discography. Laying in my loft in my college dorm room, listening to this on vinyl was heaven!😊
Suoertramp always puts me in this strange place of melancholic happiness, cannot explain it, like this world could be much better, free and happy...
Their music reflects my soul, beautifully, perfectly.
I didn't like Breakfast in America but loved Crime of the Century, Crisis What Crises, and Even in the Quietist Moments
A great album
Not a bad track
Fools overture is epic
Two distinct voices in the band
This was a Roger Hodgson singing
Bloody well right is a Rick Davies song
My best friend passed a few yrs ago -we were both fans
This was the song he wanted to hear at the end
Your friend passed with an amazing song at the end. Sorry for your loss.
I thought School was a Hodgson song, but my research has found that School was written by both gentlemen jointly.
@@Saboteur709 my mistake I should have said bloody well right for Ricks singing
Roger Hodgson heart and soul of this band I recall him sitting at keyboards at a charity gig on his own encapsulating the very best of Supertramp - when you can do that you know you have something special
Favorite song by Supertramp
In the summer of 1977 - I bought a 68 Pontiac Le Mans. To pay for it I had a paper route that required a car to carry the papers from apartment complex to apartment complex. One Sunday morning when the sun was just coming up - I was loading my car and I could hear the birds singing around me. I had the radio on low so not to disturb sleepers - and as the birds were chirping this song came on - and I could hear the exact same bird song from outside my car and from inside my car - I stopped what I was doing and I just listened. It was marvelous. The words of the song resonated with me - the wall of sound encapsulated me - and I had one of the nicest 10 minutes of my life just enjoying being 17 - having a car - and embarking on my life voyage to becoming an old man. I'm here - and I've loved this song all my life - and listen to it when I feel melancholy.
I think this song embodies the spirituality of Roger Hodgson. The 12 string guitar is divine.
I have been a Supertramp fan since 1974. One of my friends introduced them at a party by putting on 'Crime of the Century.' From the harmonica opening I was hooked. Then in 1975, 'Crisis? What Crisis?' was released and I bought it. That was the year I first was able to see them in Milwaukee. They played both of the albums in their entirety.
The album 'Even in the Quietest Moments' came out in early 1977. One of my other friends was able to get his mom to charge concert tickets. When they came in the mail, we freaked out because they were SECOND ROW! When we got to our seats, imagine our surprise when we were slightly to the left of Center stage, right in front of Rick Davies!! Still 45 years later, this show remains as one of my absolute favorite concert memories! ✌💙
To me, this is their best album, a true masterpiece
Any musical group that can put together three consecutive albums that are bangers are legit. Supertramp put together 4. They rocked in amazing ways for years. underappreciated.
One of the Tramp's deeper tracks. Glad you reacted to this song. As already mentioned, Fool's Overture is their epic, but all the songs are classics. Glad your stuff was returned. ;-)
Fools Overure !!!
Fool's overture!! The best!!!!
I think of "Babaji"
Take the long way home
Fool's Overture is to Supertramp as Xanadu is to Rush.
wow, Im so glad you liked this, 1977 I was embarked sf troops overseas and I got sent this cassette tape , I literally killed it and have had it in every collection cence. brings tears to my eyes every time
I'm Still In The 70's because There Is So Much Great Music from The 70's and It Can't Compare to Any other Decade of Music In The History of Music In My Opinion and I've been Around for 5 Decades and Counting ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Don't Cha Let The Sun Fade Away !
One of my favorite Supertramp songs even in the quietest moments. Awesome! 🙃
Not an oboe but a clarinet ! Supertramp use the clarinet, saxophone and soprano sax at different times.. It all blends very well. Rock music does not always have to be so loud and brash. melodic rock hits the mark for me. A good choice of song guys.
Also when I saw them in concert and they used an Alpine Horn as well.
I played clarinet for 13 years and I recognized it right away. Played beautifully with perfect tone.
John Anthony Helliwell
As you said: Magical. I was a teenager in Montreal when this was released. My hometown was the gateway to the Americas, for all the great Progressive bands. While Genesis and Supertramp were playing to 1000 or 2000 seat theatres in the U.S. and western Canada, they were filling 15 000+ seat arenas in Montreal. Thank you for a great reaction to a special band.
I saw them twice at the old Montreal Forum as well as many other concerts in the "'70s +. Those were the days!
Lucky me saw them at Place Des Nations touring Crime... before the amazing Forum shows
They are one of my favorite bands of all time
I saw them in 83 and 85 at the Montreal Forum
The sound was fantastic
There is something about these 5 musicians
Humble and private in their personal lives.
Thanks for sharing
Supertramp is an atmospheric band, rarely do they get heavy.
Great review - one minor comment - the woodwind instrument at the start is a clarinet, not an oboe. (I played clarinet through college)
That really deep note sounds like a bassoon.
Supertramp is one of those bands that when I listen to them I think "How is Supertramp not my favorite band!"
I've known this band since 1976. 6th grade. Loved Crime of the Century,
But this will always be my favorite song...
No pause! I just found your channel this evening and have been down the rabbit hole listening. Love your content and I find myself knowing and following all the artists/bands you have listened/reacted to as I wander your channel this evening. Thank you for the memories tonight, and know that I subscribed straight away. Your selections drew me to my closet that contains my vinyl... (it's a little sad that's where it is)... and your channel inspired me to get it out and start listening to complete albums again. I wish I could send you the picture I took of a random selection of vinyl album covers (with the records inside) lying out on the floor. Keep doing you!
Thank you so much for your kind words and support!! It’s great to have you along for the journey of discovery!! 💗 ✨
Saw the band live in Calgary in 1979 at an outdoor venue. It was during their Breakfast in America tour and they played songs from Crime of the Century to breakfast in America. It was awesome. Their sound quality was every bit as good as their recordings.
I saw the same tour at Empire Stadium in Vancouver.
At McMahon stadium, excellent concert, blew me away
@@dwight4626 You bet! Chris DeBurgh wasn't bad either!
They need to be in Rock Hall of Fame.
Nunca defrauda Supertramp. Vuelvo y vuelvo a escucharlos sin importar los tantos años que lo hago ya. Ellos son parte de mi vida y de la de mis amigos
I strongly recommend you watch their Paris 1979 show. On RUclips, it's broken into separate videos. School is the opening song and it will auto link to the next song. Fool's Overture is on it.
An excellent album. Crime Of The Century will always be my favorite. But, this one is a gem as well.
The piano was a real grand piano that a helicopter put in the mountain. It snowed over night resulting in the perfect picture for the album cover.
Definitely one of my favourites. This came out before one of my closest guy friends suddenly passed away. We were both 19 years old at the time. It took me back to that time of grief. So musically beautiful and the words speak into my very being.
“Give a little bit,” was our song.
"From Now On" is a must!!!! From this album. It's actually my favorite off this masterpiece album. It's so good. Kinda classic Supertramp.
With you on that! Babaji doesn't often get a mention, but that's another great track imo.
Form now on…..❤❤❤
it brings me joy to see you enjoy Supertramp. I've been a fan since '74, almost 50 years. And my daughter and 21 year old grandson love Supertramp also... so 3 generations. They've been my favorite band since I placed "Crime" on my Technics turntable 48 years ago. You're such a lovely couple. I can imagine how much you would love DOWNSTREAM, sung by Rick Davies. My favorite love song by Supertramp. Thank you for bringing me joy to see you moved by these wonderful artists.
If you guys are based in Colorado, I think the album cover was shot up around Nederland, above Boulder. There was a studio up there where Supertramp recorded the album, also used by Chicago and other big names. Great tune!
Fantastic in concert!! Sat 5 rows back!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I went to a lot of concerts back in the day!
I had this song on single. It was the B-side to "Goodbye Stranger", which was odd since it was from a different album released two years earlier. Terrific song. Supertramp were another of the successful acts that got a good amount of radio play but no one at school talked about. I felt like one of the only ppl who liked them and several other well-known acts of the time (esp. prog bands).
Lover Boy from this album the guitar is just brilliant
This album and Breakfast in America were 8 Tracks my mom played a lot when I was growing up. We'd sing along to those on road trips and weekend drives or just hanging out at home. I am so blessed to have grown up in the 70's-90's and that my mom had such a wide appreciation for music, including Rock. This song and the other songs from both of those albums always make me smile and make me happy because of the memories connected with them
I really enjoyed seeing you both enjoy this song.
One of my favorite tunes by Supertramp. One correction, the solo at the beginning is a clarinet, not an oboe! I enjoyed this, thank you!
Supertramp is one of my ever favourite band, I get goosebumps listening to their wonderful songs 🎵 💕
I think what I like most about this song is how seamlessly each instrument (including vocals)'s voice blends into the next. Supertramp as a whole working together is just beautiful.
Sooo glad you both loved this song, was truly happy to share it with you. I first heard this in my house in the North Carolina mountains in the Spring of that year, and the birdsong at the beginning was an echo of what I was hearing thru the window; just magical. And I echo what others have said; Fools Overture is next. Be prepared; it moves through scenes and moods, like a movie or opera. A true experience, and a masterpiece. Much love, my friends. Keep on keeping on!
Great 👍 stuff ! I grew up listening to Supertramp in the 70s and this is one of my favorites ❤ .
Ohh❤ this song was and is still amazing.. as a teenager.. you can imagine how this music carved a place in the heart ❤... so special.. were so blessed in the 70s ❤!
I got to experience them when they first came out. Beautiful music.
My favorite Supetramp album has always been "Crisis, What Crisis?" I can put it on and listen from beginning to end without the urge to skip anything. If flows well from song to song.
When Crisis came out I had to buy another album because I wore it out.
Oh yes. "Crisis, What Crisis?" was the best.
@@beentotheDell lol ;)
@@martinduften9429 Huh? Okay. Was my sister's & her husband's favorite too. - Lotta great songs on it, but not my favorite. Jmo. - Peace!
Strange- I never heard of that album.
Great album the whole thing really. Loverboy is cool, Fool's Overture, Downstream, Give a Little Bit, all worth a listen.
The best song on this album is fool's overture....brilliant
Fool's Overture may be technically their best on the album, but in a spiritual sense, this song is my favorite of all their songs.
Love the passion and emotion you both have listening togreat songs but even more so appreciating the exceptional musicians that create it. Wishing you both the very best in life and music.
Thank you for the good vibes!! Sending our best wishes your way! 💕
Only group I’ve seen where they would switch instruments after songs
My favorite album of theirs, one of my favorite songs and of all the concerts I ever saw, they were THE best. It was an unforgettable concert with a screen behind them and a train going down a track is what I remember most. It was a long time ago but never forgot that concert.
The train during RUDY was definitely a highlight 👍
Consurning the cover, look at the whole front picture, it reads "even in the quietest moments ..." with the 3 dots and then turn back the album and look at the back picture. Did you get it ?
I grew up with SUPERTRAMP…….. still rocking to their music in my 60’s…….. Even in the Quietest Moments is my favorite album…… the band was WAYYYYY ahead of their contemporaries at the time in composition, melody, lyrics, live performance. To be grooving along in 2024 to an album produced in 1977 says it all………..
Man alive, I haven't heard this song in a looong time so thanks, but I still haven't totally forgiven you guys for your April fools prank lol.
I so remember when this album came out, I was 15 or 16, playing it over and over again.
I own the album, cassette & CD of their works Crime of the Century, Crisis, What Crisis? & Even in The Quietest Moments. There will never be music like this again.
One of Supertramp’s best. Roger Hodgson’s vocals paired with the acoustic guitar knock it out of the park!
Crime and Breakfast. Still two of my favorite concert memories. God, I’m old. Thanks!
Thank you for reacting to Supertramp again!!
Regards from Chile :-)
And Los Jaivas?? ;-)
Check out their first album from 1970 self-titled import album, "Surely" (30 sec intro) and "It's a Long Road". Supertramp's early works are very progressive experimenting in varying time signatures.
Glad to see you have your instruments back! I have to admit you had me going on your april fools gag. As person that owns 17 guitars my heart was broken then wham April fools
Bought the album when it first came out and played it over and over again. My fav of theirs. I saw them on their farewell tour in the 80's and to this day the best sounding concert I've ever heard. They are a special sounding unique band. Bravo!
Another fantastic Supertramp song to respond to is also from Breakfast in America called "Child of Vision". It ends with a fantastic 5 minute piano solo. As I was watching, I spied the "Enigmatic Ocean" album behind you and it reminded me of my favorite JLP song which is so appropriate in today's world. A song called "Computer Incantations for World Peace" from the Individual Choice album. It's freaking brilliant!
P.S. Keep up the great work. We love you guys!
These two kids are so cool... I love watching them react for the first time to all of my childhood/young adult music. And best of all.. they get it!!!
the tramps lead me into real music back in 1979, i will always love them for their deep musicality, i'm going far beyond them in the next 42 years, but still they mean all to me - i'm crying listening to this song again after so many years. "Logical Song" of their Breakfast in America album take me to the whole world of music back then as a teen, i could not thank them enough for this awakening
My favorite tune from the Great Supertramp. Thanks for the reaction guys ❤️💫☝️
I love "Babaji" from this album.
I'm so glad you guys reacted to this one... This one always got me emotional... Very underrated.
I saw Supertramp live 11 times and the real underrated member is the genius that is John Anthony Helliwell who sings backup, interacts & jokes with the audience plus he plays saxophone, clarinet, triangle & keyboards plus he co-wrote a few songs!! In 1987 Helliwell played on Pink Floyd's album A Momentary Lapse of Reason....
Fools Overture is a great track. You should have done that one for April Fools Day.
"Breakfast in America" was the first album i found, where i loved every single track
Loved It! You both will love Fool's Overture as well. Look at the album cover to see music sheet on piano and what "real" song is referred to as Fool's Overture.
Think you kids would really like "From Now On" from same albums...great piano opening and ending chorus repeats like A Hey Jude moment. One of my all time favorite deep cut of SUPERTRAMP. 👍❤️
Loverboy, From Now On... What an album.
Being of my own generation (boomer). I can't imagine what younger people experiences when they first heard anything groundbreaking, because honestly, I can't think of anything groundbreaking from the late 80's and on. Except for maybe Nirvana and Dizzy Miss Lizzy (a Danish band from the 90's) I can't think of anything.
This composition was so different from what we had heard. The lead vocals, kind of haunting, the whole song starting in the sub-dominant, very weird back then... another favorite of mine.
Very Denver-ish indeed. The cover photo was taken on Eldora Montain at the ski area northwest of Boulder. The album was recorded at Caribou Ranch Studios in Nederland, west of Boulder. Nerd alert! --> The sheet music on the piano is titled Fools Overture, which is one of the songs on the album, but the music is actually the Star Spangled Banner
This album doesn't get as much attention and love as Crime of the Century and Breakfast in America. I can understand why, but this is a great album too. Check out Lover Boy, Bajabi, From Now On and Fool's Overture
Another musical masterpiece from British super group Supertramp.
Being 14 or 15 years old, I used to sit in front of my radio cassette recorder, waiting for songs like this to be played, and then they always faded it out before the ending, or had an urgent traffic announcement.... Those were the times... I cannot even make my own children really comprehend.
Absolutely a Masterpiece by the Great Supertramp ❤️💫😘
So many beautiful nuances in this song...I loved seeing you two respond as you heard them :)
Try some of these:
-School
-Rudy
-Crime of the Century
-Breakfast in America
-Goodbye Stranger
-Logical song
-Bloody well right
-Breakfast in America
-Take the long way home
-Dreamer
-Give a little bit
-It's raining again
-Sister Moonshine
-From now on
-Hide in your Shell
-Fools Overture
One of my favorite Supertramp songs!
Me and a group of friends drove up to Winnipeg to see Supertramp. What a concert. It was so amazing. When they played Rudy, the train, all of it. Maybe you would have had to experience it. It was one of those collective experiences of thousands. It was wonderful
"Crisis, What Crisis", "Even In The Quietest Moments", "...Famous Last Words...", and "Brother Where You Bound" are all great albums, and you can't go wrong with any of them.
Omg I have this album I just found it 2 days ago I know what I’m listening to this weekend 👏🙏
You would love the creativity of the first 3 albums of 10CC as well. Sheet Music being the masterpiece. But Supertramp are just on their own place in music history. Wonderful
