'Fool's Overture' is a very dramatic work. Prog Rock is sometimes difficult to wrap your head around. Supertramp is showing us how mankind's leaders can be part of a fool's overture. The world is mad. Yet we can combat the worst of mankind's foolishness. Love this tune and this band.
A masterpiece. I was lucky enough to see Supertramp live in the UK in 1979 when they performed this along with classics from Crime of the Century album plus new songs. Mind blowing performance and they are a wonderful talented group of musicians. Roger is a musical genius with a fantastic voice.
To understand supertramp, you must understand the time they were in. The sixties were the highest point of hope since WWII. Youth took over, flower power rose. But then, after JFK got shot, his brother got shot, King was shot, etc... There was a turning point in 1968 in so many ways. The promise and hope for a better world evaporated. In most Supertramp songs there is a longing for such a better world and sadness because it isn't coming, it won't come neither. They cry for a better life in at least 4 albums. IMO Supertramp is a studio group. Live they are not bad, but in studio they are better.
"Rudy" must be the next masterpiece from Supertramp to react to. Fools overture is the baby masterpiece of Roger Hodgson and Rudy is the baby masterpiece of Rick Davies. Believe me it's another song that makes you feel on a train and somewhere else.
Hello from South France, guys, Above all, they need an excellent sound with detailed stereo and good basses; the pictures we create ourselves are directly in our heads. I've been on this train so many times in my youth (17-18, now I'm 56) with this song, even though, at the time, I had almost no knowledge of English. However, it was indeed on board a train I was getting on. The sensation of speed, the landscapes, first of sunset and then of night, passing by in the window, the stops at the station to feverishly smoke a cigarette, drink a coffee, or grab a treat from a coin-operated vending machine on the platform- or all three simultaneously- waiting for the invitation to come back on board. To go where ? Far, far from the grey. It was all there. Peace, folks. ☮😉
I'm really, really happy that you like this music. She has never left my side since the first time, in 1977. She always amazes me. There is always a detail, something that still manages to amaze me, even after hundreds and hundreds of listens. Supertramp is the most creative band I have ever heard. Nothing is due to chance in their music. He is universal, intelligent, beautiful.
Supertramp is a fantastic band. I got to see them in 1979 when I was 21. Roger Hodgson wrote this song. I fell in love with Roger Hodgson's voice. And found out that he wrote most of the songs for Supertramp then left the band in 1983 and went solo. He is still touring and plays all of his Supertramp songs as well as new ones he's written since. He' AMAZING and his voice is angelic. His live performances are on RUclips. Please check him out.
I have been fortunate enough to have seen Supertramp “The Tramp” Live 4 times. Their live shows are a spectacle and brilliant. Each member is a musical genius. Rick Davies is my favorite keyboards player and John Helliwell is favorite Sax player. He is a blast to watch live. The bass and drummer are awesome and Roger’s guitars are superb. The only live show I put above Supertramp is Pink Floyd, who I have seen 4 times.
Dear Andrei and Dominika, thank you one more time for sharing with us, not just one of the great songs ever, but also your feelings and thoughts. Men have been Fools as back as we can remember. These musicians grew up listening to the memories of those who fought during World War II (and maybe heard the memories of those who were in the battle fields in World War I (Portugal also fought alongside the British). We are all Europeans and we share this burden of fighting and suffering. These days we are living in bring us back past memories and fears. Will someone be a Fool again, a lunatic convinced having the right to start a new war? As a teenager I heard this song and kept it in my mind as a reminder of all the past suffering. Roger's haunting words sounded to me as cry, first of despair, then of strength and hope, finally of anger. Thank you again my friends, bless you.
What a great Band so many fantastic tracks Crime of the Century is a outstanding album full of superb songs well worth listening too Thank you for this great song 🎵
My favorite supertramp songs are child of vision and school! Should watch roger hodgson live in Vienna concert! He’s the singer and composer ! It’s a awesome concert to listen to child of vision and school!!!
WHAT YOU JUST WITNESSED, WAS PURE GENIUS… LISTEN TO THAT CROUD…. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO SEE THEM IN CONCERT. MADE ME CRY ON THE BUILD UP. THAT WHOLE ALBUM, CRIME OF THE CENTURY, IS ANOTHER EPIC MASTERPIECE GREAT REACTIONS 👏 ROCK ON 👊🖖
Oh my! Oh my! one of the best songs EVER. Wait, you did not do 'school' from supertramp I see? Oh boy.. You MUST do 'school'! its their iconic music piece. Its... well, you have to see!
Great reaction I was fortunate to see them on their world tour at this time One of the very best concerts ever Eventually try to get to the songs on Crime of the Century You will enjoy them All of them have meaning
Roger Hodgson - lead singer - wrote this song (and most of SuperTramp's songs). He is a true musical genius. He continued performing "solo" - often with only one other artist that played sax, keyboard, percussion well into the 2000's, and his voice was even better (smoother and more controlled). The album "Breakfast In America" is absolute genius!
Good on You Guys............no matter what song or group..........."you get it " ...every time. There are so many doing what you are doing ..who don't get it every time ........
Got to do a show with these guys once, 1977. It was at my college where I and my roommate booked all the shows for the school representing the student senate. I also ran the stage crew. Set a fastest load out time record for them. Their production manager was timing it. We were a bunch of college kids and he was curious how well we'd do. Anyway, the next day I and my roomie met Rick Davies & one other band member, can't remember which one right now, for breakfast. I remarked on how good the show sounded and their sound engineer was great. Davies said ya, almost good enough to go into the studio. Being in Colorado they wanted to get cowboy boots. So that's what we did, took 'em shopping. ;O) Went into the concert biz full time after college but, unfortunately, never ran into them again.
@@58BURST I was very fortunate. I was in that biz from the late '70s through the '80s working for one of the biggest promoters in the country. Got to work the shows of the acts that reactors are discovering now. I was in my 20s early 30s. Dream job. ;O)
One of Britain's finest ever bands (and yes, I know the drummer was American!). They and others provided the soundtrack to my teenage years. Do we really have anyone like them any more?
An epic. Once more: I love the way you analize it mentally and especially emotionally. ...... If I might suggest: the band Ange and the song Capitaine Coeur de Miel
I love your reactions. They are reactions of simple music fans, with sensitivity, who feel it, and enjoy it as the vast majority of people do. You don't go into talking about the key, the tone and other topics of supposed musical experts. You just talk about how you feel about each song. And you are also very nice! Greetings from the north of Spain and may you continue uploading many videos!!
Now you can see why I call Supertramp and Pink Floyd my #1 & #1 band. They are very different……but for emotion and depth of musicianship and song writing abilities, no one, comes close. The scope and texture of their musical creations just takes your breath away. They don’t play “catchy tunes” and simple chord progressions…..they play masterpieces of a type unmatched by most other bands. They make you feel what they are playing, not just listen to it. Peter Gabriel is close, but he has gone on several weird tangents over the years, so I can’t say he is equal to Supertramp or Pink Floyd, but he up there as well.
Supertramp was very good... And I have a suggestion, watch Roger Hodgson's solo performances. I watched it here in Brazil. "Only because of you" é maravilhosa 5:16
There are some really good live performance of Roger Hodgeson and his band from around 2013 (long after he had left Supertramp). Recommended for your reaction for sure, like 'Child of Vision' and 'School' for starters.
Merchant of Alba, The both of you so sweet and intelligent. This song is EPIC. Big in scale of what it is trying to convey. This song is a spiritual ! So hard to understand just by listening to it. One must have the lyrics in front. Marchand Of Alba to capsulate this message imagine a prophet (a man) warning humanity not to ignore their spiritual essence which resides in silence. While people were sleeping ( not aware of their spirituality - being awake) a ship was sent to sea. This ship was the testing ground for a nuclear bomb site next to Bikini Island in the pacific by the United States. The song goes on with the folly , the charade the clowning we all participate in when we deny who we really are. Rocker man , spider man , holy man Queenie. Are all characters outside our true selves. The EGO wants to live it up go crazy! This is the suffering of this world. Wars and the breakdown of everything. Because we refuse to be still and look inward . Peace and love to both of you.❤😊
I was very fortunate to attend an early concert of theirs, taking in up to this album. They swept the crowd away and vice versa, apparently they were in tears afterwards. The originality was amazing - even though they had many bigger hits afterwards, I think they were more commercial later on, something that wouldn't have pleased them.
Amen! You had the horror and the beauty of humanity. You had the unimaginable terror and hatred of an Adolph Hitler... AND the incredible empathy and artistry of a Charlie Chaplin. Love this song... and the thoughtful songwriting of Roger Hodgson. Supertramp were an amazing band. (another great song: "Even In The Quietest Moments"... from the same album... and the title track). Cheers!
Paris loves great music like this, obviously. I encourage you to see Phil Collins's 2004 farewell concert from Paris. Spectacular. (that memorable 'In The Air Tonight' performance is from that concert) There are many gems of his to mine from it.
Great reaction, guys, next time try the STUDIO versions of their masterpiece songs "Crime of the Century" or "Child of Vision" I think you will love it.. You may enjoy "Brother where you bound" as it features David Gilmour...😊
Living day to day, things go by and we don't see their significance and then we look back and see the chaos endured and wonder why "they" didn't see it for what it was.
I have been watching your Dire Straits videos recently. I dont know whether you are aware but Mark Knopfler is interviewd here on youtube in the last few days . He his putting up for auction 120 guitars from his collection at Christies. A really interesting conversation with him if you are interested just type Mark Knopfler interview at Christies.
There are very few bands over the years that could do that. It is an all time classic and it is unlikely you will hear very much better. Certainly today there are almost no bands that can do that. The age of that sort of power in music is gone.
great great band...but you should try the studio versions first , nothing wrong with the live versions......but as " first timers " go for the studio versions ( album versions ) first
Not only one of Supertramp's finest moments, but one of the best pieces of music ever written in my opinion, an absolute masterpiece!!!

Some of the best Rock musicianship , you will ever hear ! Period...................
I'm 60 & from the UK & only just really discovered the brilliance of Supertramp myself...
Please listen to crime of the century one of the greatest albums ever
They are amazing guys!!!❤

This song was always FIRE by Supertramp!! So Good!!
Une chanson extraordinaire passant les années unique genial❤
" Even In The Quietest Moments ' The Supertramp best album and the Fools Overture " is their Gem. 63 😊 from Morocco.
One of the best live performances ever! Amazing band, great albums and brilliant musicians
Beautiful reaction. This song is one of the best songs of history, and this performance is great. Thanks
This is echo from my past, and i live it again!
"Rudy" must be the next masterpiece from Supertramp to react to.
Fools overture is the baby masterpiece of Roger Hodgson and Rudy is the baby masterpiece of Rick Davies.
Believe me it's another song that makes you feel on a train and somewhere else.
I agree. But if they are going to react to RUDY they must have the video with the train to nowhere to feel the whole experience.
Hello from South France, guys,
Above all, they need an excellent sound with detailed stereo and good basses; the pictures we create ourselves are directly in our heads.
I've been on this train so many times in my youth (17-18, now I'm 56) with this song, even though, at the time, I had almost no knowledge of English.

Peace, folks. ☮😉
By far their most difficult song, and their most prog song. Bravo on you two for taking it on!
I'm really, really happy that you like this music.
She has never left my side since the first time, in 1977. She always amazes me. There is always a detail, something that still manages to amaze me, even after hundreds and hundreds of listens. Great choice, probably my favorite Supertramp song (and I love them all) and the live (Paris) version is even better than the studio version.
Brilliant Band, wonderful musicians. dive DEEP INTO THEIR catalogue WICKED.... It will send you there!!!!!!!!!
The memories this brings back, both happy and sad. Thanks for this. Always loved Supertramp.
Loved this song forever.
Supertramp one of my favourite bands & a very underrated.
Deserves a deeper dive into their catalog.
"Hide In Your Shell" is an amazing song.
I strongly recommend “Child Of Vision” do a studio version first, then see it performed live. My favorite piano solo I ever saw performed live
yes, one of rick's finest piano solos.
THIS! Many times over. My favorite Supertramp song. Ever.
Supertramp is a fantastic band. I got to see them in 1979 when I was 21.

I saw them on this Tour at Earls Court. London, it was amazing!💖
The big screen on stage really added substance to there songs like this one. In concert it was as mind blowing.
This keyboard riff (with percussion) was used for the late-night National News intro on Canada's CTV News through the eighties and early 90s.
One of the classics of my youth... 🥲 Hide in your Shell would be also great
Crime of the century album will blow your mind as well

Pretty much any particular tune from Supertramp will be amazing in one way or another. I really recommend you try "Rudy" from Crime of the Century.
Fantastic musicians ❤

WHAT A CLASSIC, GREAT REACTION GUYS
Hello. Thanks for these reaction. For mi is one of the best band of the history.
I sure wish you would have done the studio version
Agreed
One of their masterpieces !
Try "Child of vision" (studio version) please 😊
All the band seems to be touched by the Angeles wings, with Roger beetwin them...
A must have on vinyl... Paris... 😊
❤ yeah! Try Crime of the Century 🌈✌️
That's a very hard song to keep up with. The tim we s and mindset of people in the 70's understood it for what it was. A experience
Paris loves great music like this, obviously. I encourage you to see Phil Collins's 2004 farewell concert from Paris. Spectacular. (that memorable

As soon as I saw it was a live version, I left.
I believe this is the last concert they did. they announced it during the show.
You should check out child of vision from this concert
Living day to day, things go by and we don't see their significance and then we look back and see the chaos endured and wonder why "they" didn't see it for what it was.
Please do : supertramp : don’t leave me now. My favorite song from supertramp! Thx
Oh boy....😳
If you listen to that song again , listen to the studio version !

my favourite along with the title track. song to me is an anti war song. and the celebration of those who start them
SUPERTRAMP belongs in the RRHF😢😅
RRHOF, isn't deserving of them.
Please please, Check the music crime of the century. At the end they Will take to a place similar to Pink Floyd
Please do the studio version of Child of Vision.
a great progressive choice
a new field
The clowns may have been comic relief Or darker because we may be lead by clowns.I’m not going to say how I feel about clowns right now LOL
This is above you but it takes time to think about it. I say it says, look out, the mess will continue if you are not aware of it.
This is also a wonderfull song from Supertramp from the same concert: ruclips.net/video/jK45RTKPfKo/видео.html
Please play Rudy❤❤
great great band...but you should try the studio versions first , nothing wrong with the live versions......but as " first timers " go for the studio versions ( album versions ) first
Its about what happened in England when Germany started bombing them and noone came to thier aid
Please show 10cc 'one night in paris' an epic song
all about Winston Churchill
Not my favourite. Mine is "Child of Vision"
This is a wornning capodopera!..
No, I don't think that I'll be listening to this in the future.
Cine a fost capabil să compună o asemenea capodoperă muzicală, pare să fi fost atins de aripa unui înger...
Please play Rudy❤❤
