I’m hoping Jay is genuinely feeling better because I know that my mental health is a lot better with this pair back in my life. Keep on keeping on Bro. ✌️
was fun watching Amber's reactions as the song played on. At first it was alike she was thinking "oh no a song about guns, I don't like guns" and then it continued with it's anti-gun message and she was like alright I can get behind this and started smiling and getting into it.
I was able to see them a dozen times in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 70s. After the plane crash I saw them a couple of times. Nobody could sing as well as well as Ronnie though!
The lead singer and band leader Ronnie Van Zant “never” wrote lyrics down! While they were practicing one day in the “hell house” Ed King and others were experimenting with riffs! Ronnie noticed the riff that is now part of this song! He said keeping going on that tune and within about 15 min. Ronnie whispered the entire lyrics into Ed King's ear… This was a story told by Ed King! They were incredible musician and songwriters who were not given a lot of credit for their genius compositions as a group because of their reputation as brawling and drug-infused lives! Honestly, I’m from Jacksonville and knew and played golf and hung out with some members of 38 Special! Many people do not realize that from the Westside of Jacksonville came Lynyrd Synyrd, Allman Brothers, 38 Special, Blackfoot, and Molly Hatchet! The sound of the south! 🙏❤️🔥
A "Saturday Night Special" was generally a small .38 Cal revolver with a 2 inch barrel (also called a .38 Special, which is also the caliber). They are easy to carry in a pocket and used to be bought pretty cheap (not so much anymore). It is also where .38 Special got their name. Nice to see you smiling more...keep on keeping on brother!
"Saturday Night Special" were a very cheaply made import pistol. Usually in either 25 cal or 32 cal. with a one or up to a two inch barrel. When they were banned and became unavailable , the gangs started using a bigger caliber handgun, causing more deaths.
My daughter (back when she was 10yrs old) once asked me, "Dad, why don't you just listen to the 'oldies station'?" Right bands, wrong songs. I remember 'album oriented radio'..🤣
I've been trying to get them to react to songs that aren't smash hits since I subbed. No luck so far. Some of my favorite musicians have never gotten played on the radio or charted on Billboard and nobody's ever heard of them unless they're music nerds or record producers.
I was a little smartass squirt of a kid when I had tickets to see Lynyrd Skynyrd and Ted Nugent in the summer of 77' .I lived just outside of Louisville Kentucky going to start my sophmore year when that horrible plane crash happened ... I was so brocken about it .. I LOVE SKYNYRD and with Nugent it was going to be a RIPPING CONCERT ! I wore the Memorial shirt all year so much it became worn and pretty ragged . I felt like I missed the Concert of a lifetime ... Fly on Freebird ! PK
The drummer on this song is still alive, He survived the plane crash. And still plays Lynyrd Skynyrd music. The name of the band is The Artimus Pyle Band. His band plays a tribute to Skynyrd. There is videos of them playing, you should check them out.
I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd at The Summit (now Lakewood Church!) in Houston when I was 16 or 17, before the plane crash. I lost my shoes that night! Skynyrd rocks
Yes, Saturday Night Special is a handgun in this song. Just like "That Smell" the song is a warning about the dangers of the topic and the stupidity of using them casually, because when you use them casually, someone becomes a casualty.
Such a powerful and relentless song on every level. This is an absolute classic and iconic Lynyrd Skynyrd song. They really are one of a very few bands for me where I literally like every song off every album, everything. Like the Beatles and CCR. And seriously, there are still a whole ton more of them that you have interacted to yet. That's what's so great about these kinds of situations, laugh.
My gosh, this one rocks! LS stirred up a bit of controversy with this tune back in the '70s, but its anti-violence message has endured to this day, just as powerfully as the music.
Jay you have your 80s hair bands that you like , But us 70s BRATS Have our 70s ROCK and ROLL BANS ALSO ..I like 70s my self way more ... Who else is with me ?
Wow! Amber has turned into such a fox! Jay you have a beautiful wife, beautiful children. I hope that you thank GOD for giving you a wonderful fulfilling life.
Not true. Heaven forbid that someone in the inner city should want to purchase a gun for protection and not have the monetary means to purchase a gun > $300 or more.
I have to say... I love watching you two. Both have great takes on these songs... Jay tends to react to the riff and overall feel, and Amber tends to react to the lyrics, meaning, and how the instruments play off the lyrics and overall feel. It's amazing that I've been listening to these songs for 30+ years and have had that much time to understand and appreciate certain nuances and meanings, and the awesome little instrument flairs... but you two seem to have picked up on (most of) those things within their first hearing. Kudos. 👏
@@ednicholson7839 I was referring more to their impact,l than to their style. Their style was southern rock. Their impact on southern rock was as big as Zeppelin's impact on 70's rock
YES! Some excellent Skynyrd and a real banger that was huge on the radio and still is in classic rock radio and streams. Another hot song of theirs in this vein is Give Me Back My Bullets, an all time banger from the boys. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶🔥
Skynyrd was a great band. So many excellent songs. Always liked this song; that lone snare drum hit with echo like a shot. Got to see them in the mid '70's here in San Diego at the Sports Arena with Charlie Daniels and Golden Earring. Second time I saw them was with Molly Hatchet. Awesome shows back then.
Obscure reference. Ronnie Van Zant's brother, Donnie Van Zant, was the founder and lead singer of .38 Special. A Saturday night special and a .38 special are the same thing.
One of my two favorite songs by them. I'm from their hometown Jacksonville Florida. Saturday night specials were cheap pistols that were sold at every corner store. They are not anti-gun people. Those guns were worthless just for killing.

Gimme back my bullets is a great follow up from Skynyrd 🔥
They did that one already.
Thinking this remains my favorite from this band. Never get tired of it and I bought it when it came out.
You should know that song has nothing to do with ammunition.
Hey research what Ronnie is talking about it has absolutely nuthin to do with guns or bullets.

Yes, Carry On, CSN&Y 4 Way Street.
In the 1970's, cheap guns from the streets were called "Saturday Night Specials". I have waited for you to cover this song; one of my favorites.

IT'S NUTS!! to think they put out SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MANY great songs in just 4 years
I was at the Lynyrd Skynyrd and Journey concert in 1976 at the Seattle Center Coliseum . I was 19 . Holy crap , time flies by .
I saw Skynyrd twice in 76 at the Civic Area in Pittsburgh. Feb then again Nov.

@ yeah, I was born in Lake City! I remember Gator games and Tom Petty! Thanks for the reminder!
just as this has a message about guns, "that smell" and "the needle and the spoon" talk about drug use. "Workin for the MCA" is another great one.
My favorite Skynyrd song out of so many...Two feets they come a creepin' like a black cat do, What a great line!
I swear my girl Amber just keeps getting prettier and prettier every time I check this channel out. Thanx 4sharing.
This song made it's movie debut in "The Longest Yard" starring Burt Reynolds...
Lol yeah, think it's still playing on the radio as the car starts sinking beneath the water if memory serves me.
Yeah... at the beginning of the movie.
By far better than the remake with Adam Sandler...
The whole time you can see amber listening, and processing, the song as she's swaying back and forth.
Amber always gets the songs on a deeper level.
Plus, she is BAE !!!! 🥰🥰

Snub-nose .38 revolver... was also the common police revolver back in the day, because is lightweight easy to fire and accurate at close range.
You cant beat the sound of three guitarists playing in harmony. I love bands with multiple guitarists
Southern Rock at it's finest!
LYNYRD SKYNYRD 4EVER!!!

Their deeper tracks are so good. Radio has always played the same 4 or 5 songs. But they have tons of great songs.
