His character development is my favourite throughout the entire series. The way this show portrays the flawed human side of almost every cast member is amazing and keeps the family drama engaging !
You're the first person I've heard explain, and explain so well, one of the major reasons for my love of this show. Not just the grayness of the show and characters, but also the lack of father figures in almost every main character's life, and their redemption arcs. I think this show and it's characters have much more nuance than people want to give it credit for on first glance.
Best shit ever... Never knew how much I'm like Johnny... Without the badass karate part.. Still kicked some ass and got my beat downs room..im better cause of all these characters.... Thank you....
Even Daniel is a gray character in Cobra Kai. In Cobra Kai he often doesn't follow Mr.Miyagi's lessons (by continuing his rivalry with Johnny) and his negative traits end up affecting his relationships with his wife and his daughter.
A big part of the problem is that he keeps confusing self-defense with revenge. A lot of the conflicts in the series almost certainly would have been avoided if he had simply decided to ignore Johnny and mind his own business.
Like when he got Johnny’s landlord to double the rent in the strip mall, without even considering the other business owners. It was nice seeing Daniels wife call him out on it too.
This is just a review and made me tear up already because this character is going through a psychological process I think some can relate to, lol. Even if it's just a show based on drama and karate, it really holds onto big metaphors of life, which makes it a little bit more realistic as a viewer. For the next seasons I really want to see what you say about he has to let go of his past and stop focusing on his failures. Like, when I was watching until season 2, I felt what Johnny was meant to do but at some point, I still doubted him, I could not explain it or describe it as you do in your analysis. I really hope Johnny turns into the person he always needed and he's meant to be. I mean, if I almost cried in this analysis video, I can imagine I will burst into tears for the series finale. Is just so good. Thank you for making this video, really well done. Big thumps up and definetely sharing.
Thank you :) Glad you really liked it... I agree about the show representing something bigger in life...and Johnny is such a well realized, compelling character, think that's why we get so emotionally involved... Curious to see what you think of the finale!
Cobra Kai is about letting go of the past and being good enough for friends and love. We see Johnny in a rut, living in the past and alone, his life is out of balance, and when his life is out of balance, everything is worse and that is reflected in episode 1, he gets fired from a job he hates, eats a slice of pizza outside, lives in a small flat. But then he starts living in the present, forms a relationship with Miguel, starts living again and gains balance, everything gets better. The same is with Hawk, he is crying over being bullied and has no friends besides Dimitri and Miguel, afterwards he only looks forwards and begins a new identity, never looking back, separating himself from Eli, although he still gets PTSD from this past identity. He gets friends and love, he becomes socially accepted. The lessons from Cobra Kai is to not cry over the past and present, but to look forwards towards your future ideal and be good enough.
Fully agree, especially after finishing season 3. I feel like one of the overarching themes of season 3 was about moving on and moving forward from your past
Look up Judas Priests album screaming for justice, think that is where eagle fang came from? Fits the part and the idea that Johnny is stuck in the 80’s
@@manumaster1990 Darth Vader is a gray character. He wasn't completely evil. He had feelings and emotions. The reason he swayed to the dark side was because the Jedi would suppress those emotions. So Johnny in the karate kid movie had heart. That can be seen when he tries to stand up to Kreese. Also he felt betrayed by Daniel. And then you was very arrogant in the karate kid even Mr miyagi had to bring him back to Earth a couple times
Really like your way of talking and the analysis! Great job! After finishing season 3, I would love to see a video like this on Hawk! He's my second favourite character after Johnny. Also, I think it helps that Johnny is fucking hilarious! I mean, his struggles with technology make him more relatable but it's thinks like him knocking the books out of the kid's hands in season 3 after his speech to the Cobra Kai's and immediately apologising afterwards that make him also very likable. It's the fact that he is technically a bully if you look at him on a surface level but he has no real malice or hatred in him, he just wants to be left alone (the only person he really hates is Kreese and for good reasons). When he insults the kids, he thinks it will help them. He doesn't really want them to feel bad but wants to make them tough. His intentions and methods seem to contradict each other but the audience sees his true heart. The fact that he is percieved as a vilian by so many characters in the story, when we know that in reality, he is just trying his best to be good, even though he has no idea how to do that, makes us root for him. I know you already said all of that but I just love his character a lot and love to talk about it :) Also, I think it's incredibly funny how he and Daniel will get along instantly when they just spend more than 2 minutes talking to each other.
Really great insightful reveiw bud! For sure we root for the underdog, cos we see the underdog in ourselves! Loved Johnny's character in the new series. Keep the videos coming brother.

Another favorite aspect was seeing this story in Johnny's perspective. It made it a unique experience from the original stories because suddenly, he's not just the bad guy. I'll be back after watching Cobra Kai...😑😑😑
I must admit the relationship between Miguel and Johnny was my favorite because you could actively see how they're influencing each other. Another favorite aspect was seeing this story in Johnny's perspective. It made it a unique experience from the original stories because suddenly, he's not just the bad guy. He's a guy we didn't understand previously because we didn't understand his motivations. Now that we see life through his eyes, we but we can empathize and root for him.
Overall a very insightful analysis. 👌👌👌
But I still like Daniel LaRusso more than Johnny Lawrence
You look like you could be Miguel’s Father. Just sayin ya know
