I don't care what anyone says, Miguel got a bad rap. Sam blatantly avoided introducing him to her father, then he saw her having a family gathering with Robbie (whom she had never mentioned before), then she didn't answer his messages/calls for an entire day but later showed up at the party WITH Robbie. Any reasonable person would feel betrayed under those circumstances, and it's not surprising that a drunken teenage boy wouldn't handle it in the most mature way. He clearly wasn't "corrupted" until after the incident at the party, indicating that Johnny's training wasn't what led him astray. Rather, it was his inner rage and pain that twisted everything.
Uh, duh, ummmm ... HELLLLOOOOOO, McFLYYYYY ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !! !That's obviously one of the main points of the entire season! Sam was 1 of many victims of Larusso's bullying! Most characters in the movie were directly or indirectly victims of Larusso's "superiority": Johnny, Miguel, Sam, Cole, the female member of the tournament board of directors, the real estate guy, the other business owners whose rent doubled, and on and on. His hate for Johnny which at that point in life was unfounded, petty and immature affected Sam and ruined her relationship with Miguel. He blindly rejected Miguel and welcomed in Robbie (whom he barely knew, but ... hey, he aint Cobra Kai, right? so here's my daughter!) and in effect as such controlled Sam's actions, thoughts and behaviors because he hated Johnny.
Bull dust : johnny turned Miguel into a stalker and into a possessive individual filling his head with snot. As for danny : he ended up being correct anyway about the cobra kai karate group and evidence was with Miguel but, especially with hawk. You would likely do the same thing if you were beaten almost to no life or severe injuries. Danny could have gotten law enforcement agency officers involved after that vicious Halloween evening beating within the original karate kid film but, he didn't want to get the cobra kai karate group into trouble - danny just wanted to left alone - that's what really happened within the original karate kid film plus remember what the leaders of the cobra kai karate group did to him in the third installment of the karate kid movies franchise so basically anyone who had been put through would do with their daughter and / or, son besides, sam larusso tried to give Miguel a second chance by turning up to the tournament and talking to him calmly yet he still stuffed it all up through listening to his idol though, can't blame it all on johnny as he's suffered enough and payed his own share of penance
The gr8 plasticine bumble bee Daniel picked the fight on the Halloween evening. Johnny left him alone for months before Daniel couldn’t leave well enough alone. Daniel expected no consequences for what he did at that dance.
He basically became the new Johnny. He was good for a bit then something happened and he slowly morphed down the path of revenge. He’s kinda an antihero in that way. The protagonist of the story is Johnny but there is not really a hero of the story. All characters make good and bad choices. Like actual people.
One thing you don't mention, you can see Johnny starting to rethink his methods at the end of the tournament. He's beginning to realize that his students may be becoming too aggressive. That's part of what makes the reappearance of his old teacher such a surprise.
The title of the last episode is "Mercy", so I thought Johnny would already realize that Krease's methods were flawed and that at least the last rule has to be amended, at some point. But in hindsight, it probably would've been to quick for this turn. I'm really looking forward to the 2nd season.
Also, I think Johnny realizes at the end that the good guy doesn't always win. Ironically, that's the final lesson Larusso taught Robbie (in the car after the tournament). I think that helps Johnny move on from having lost to Larusso in the tournament and he realizes what is important in life and that he is good enough even if Larusso is the one with the great life.
I think the final episode was a cheap shot against his teching method, it felt like a bit of a straw man argument against it. like the moment where Hawk attacks a guy from behind because he "didn't want to be a pussy" but that doesn't make any sense. A guy like Hawk would see striking a guy from behind as being the pussy move, a sucker punch is not the move of an alpha male (which is how he wants to be seen). All things considered, I liked the series, especially how it made aggression a positive (because it is, like all emotions it's how it's used makes the difference)
Cobra Kai did a great job flipping the script with Miguel. But I still rooted for him over Robby, mainly because Robby’s arc wasn’t fleshed out enough. He just suddenly became a boy scout after he started working for Daniel
@Zurround100 cramming so much into the first season actually makes me worry about the next one. I feel like they rushed through all their best plot points already and are going to struggle for new ones. I'm guessing the next season will focus on Johnny falling in love with Miguels mom and Daniels daughter will start training for the next contest.
Enjoyed watching the new new youtube red premium series, cobra kai In the original karate kid film : johnny was on his way to take danny's life with that last running kick so not only did myagi save danny's life - myagi also saved johnny from a lengthy prison sentence so johnny wouldn't have moved into the receda area and wouldn't have met Miguel hence : wouldn't have been able to temporarily save Miguel from those bullies outside the convenience store Plus johnny saved Miguels life after that vicious Halloween evening beating so basically johnny became the new mister myagi and Miguel was basically the new danny
@Zurround100 agree accept the hawk thing. Cobra kai gave him no confidence and the hawk tattoo helped. Its seems a little silly to make charter development take forever to me. I mean hawk gradually became more masculine and domanient the last episode was his final transformation when he took off his shirt and acted like he was roded out.
I disagree. I think many bullies can recognize what they are doing and can see past their justifications. I myself am one such bully. I find joy in putting others down. At the same time however, I am trying to keep myself from doing so despite the constant temptation.
@@Vexin980 That proves my point even further. From your perspective you do it because " you find joy in it". You are not doing it just because. You still have a motive. Yours is joy
@@SuperSymbiote1 come to think of it. Two guys, or girls, or a guy and a girl or so on and so forth, could actually be both having a fight while one bullies the other as a separate action. That would likely muddle the waters around the whole thing, especially as we're very used to hearing trash talk in fights.
Johnny's character was great in Cobra Kai. Season one ended where he was realizing how winning at any cost isn't always the right thing to do; however, I really hope they don't soften his character too much. His anti-PC attitude is refreshing in this day and age.
Well the closing scene was the introduction of another conflict for him to deal with. Another evil to tempt him. He walked away from his bully step-dad. He confronted Larusso. He tried to do right by Robbie ... but failed. Now in a moment of weakness, will he be able to resist the temptation to fall into that same trap?
I loved how the movie showed Johnny's perspective in the movie, how he was doing the right thing and Danny was the one in the wrong. How Danny couldn't let something go and poured water on Johnny in the bathroom; or how Danny was the one sucker punched Johnny when he wasn't meaning to hurt him as much as he did. Cobra Kai gave me a new perspective on Johnny as a person, and that he's not just a generic asshole.
I can see Hawk joining Kreese he had such low self-esteem then Johnny comes & gives him the confidence & power he's been graving. We think Miguel will turn to the dark side he will come very close but he'll realize he doesn't want to be a bad guy now that Johnny & Sam have come into his life. As for Robby not liking him just yet they haven't flushed him out enough he jumped into being the good guy too quick he could be still conning everyone. Also I mentioned in another comment that he needs to get a different hairstyle he's looking to much like Johnathan Brandis.
@@tipsytwinky4382 I agree with you on Daniel letting his hatred of Johnny cloud his judgment he only decided to open his own dojo because Cobra Kai has been revivied. I think Sam will discover this & call her dad out on it Daniel even told his wife that "Not on my watch will Cobra Kai be back in business." I'll bet when Johnny asks Daniel for help to combat Kreese Daniel will say "If you hadn't reopened Cobra Kai none of this would've happened." Again Daniel trying to keep Johnny down so he can remain at the top with Johnny being like "I've got a chance to make something of myself reopening Cobra Kai gave me the chance to make a difference & Miguel was that spark that reignited my flame." "Not to mention I want to help these kids you got everything you ever wanted LaRusso so piss off on top of that I need your help to stop Kreese from turning these kids into real monsters." With Kreese at the helm the new generation of Cobra Kai students would be bigger nightmares than Johnny & his friends ever was.
Danny was obviously 100 % correct on the cobra kai karate group - danny warned Miguel and yet Miguel didn't listen - now look how Miguel plus hawk has become - they're both violent and unstable aggressive hacks who like to force their own way in order to manipulate basically to get to their own goals Danny could have gotten the cobra kai karate group shut down if he really wanted to by contacting law enforcement agency officers and perhaps involving the local council yet danny didn't - danny just wanted the new generation not to suffer like he did in the original karate kid film
Cobra Kai season 1 was awesome and was binge worthy. I loved that there was no clear "villain" as that is more how real life is. When Daniel went and got the rents raised of everyone in the mini-mall? That showed his real selfish side (as he didn't even think he was causing financial hardships and taking away jobs). Can't wait for season 2!!
To me the whole point of the show was to break the Villain and Hero stereotype and show that, no one is perfect, But oh boy do the fans LOVE to victimize and Villanize, sometimes literal TEENAGERS for not knowing better
This is what people don't get, because a lot of fiction doesn't cover it. I was bullied for most of my childhood, and I hated every second of it. I spent every day afraid of getting stomped, and I did everything I could just to avoid my tormentors. I ended up being pretty much terrified of people in general. Here's the thing: every time I get into a position of power, I genuinely struggle not to use it to put people down the exact way I was. I know, crazy right? I of all people should know how awful it is to be made to feel useless. But that's not exactly the way it works. I was terrified of being powerless, I still am. And often in order to feel that power, something inside me wants to put others down. So I'm never in that position of perpetual vulnerability ever again. I can be cruel, sadistic and unfair even to the people I care about the most, because I'm genuinely terrified of even giving them the chance to become my new tormentors. Bullying creates victims, and victims often become new bullies. It's a poison that corrupts everyone it touches. It's something I personally have to stay on guard for every single day. And it's not something you see in media. People like me are held up as survivors, people who have been unjustly tormented by vicious aggressors. But the leader of the biggest gang of bullies I ever met was abused everyday by his mother and father (something I didn't realize until long after I last saw him). Bullies aren't innately evil individuals. They're scared and broken people who just don't want to be what they make everyone else into: a victim. And the solution isn't to beat the shit out of every bully walking the earth. The solution is to stop the cycle of fear and hate.
@Deplorable Cat Yeah... that's what I DID. What I'm saying is that the fear is always there, even if you get really good at dealing with it: the fear of being beaten down again.
@@MH3Raiser I once saw a youtube video of a guy so traumatised by bullying he home-schooled his own kids many years later in life for fear they would get bullied too. It affected him so much it robbed his kids from the possibility of having a normal childhood.
Okay but how would you suggest stopping the cycle? At the end of the day you still have to fight them if it means defending yourself. And therein lies the issue.
Christian Estrellado I certainly see your point. Matter fact that's a really valid point. Cause throughout the first season it seemed like Robby and Sam(Daniel's daughter) were causing the feud between Johnny and Daniel to escalate further and further
Must disagree. The real bully IMO in season 1 is LaRusso! He became "rich & famous" if you will and got swollen ego and thought he was better than everyone else. He bullied and manipulated Johnny, Cole (the rival car dealer), Sam, the real estate guy (in his scheme to drive up Johnny's rent), Kyler (even if he was right, he did treat the kid just like he did everyone else), and mostly - although indirectly - Miguel ... by hurting the people close to him like Sam and Johnny. I wouldn't call Robbie a good guy, but he wasn't the villain, either. He did change and grow - he went against his thug friends to protect Larusso's business and he was going to give Johnny a 2nd chance ... until he saw Johnny man-hug Miguel. He also was sympathetic to Sam being grounded and helped her get some time out. And Sam was nothing but a victim throughout the entire movie, first and constantly from her meangirls friends as she was only with them because she feared becoming 1 of their targets/victims, then from Kyler, then from Daniel, and finally from Miguel. Being a victim of bullying so you are scared to use your voice and speak out for yourself is NOT provoking or instigating a conflict. That all falls squarely on Larusso's shoulders because he has not let go of the past any more than Johnny has. And Johnny wants to heal and even tried to get help from Larusso (the bar scene) to do that ... until he found out about Larusso training Robbie (and assumed Larusso knew the relation).
I think pinning a character as the villain I think is missing the point. The "villain" is human ego. The lack of self perspective. It's the thing that every character in this has to struggle against. That was the whole point of Miyagi's teachings, that power without perspective is destined to self destruct, and that it's a fight that everyone has to fight constantly and throughout their lives no matter who you are, where you come from, or what Martial Art you practice.
If danny was clever he would have went to law enforcement agency officers and perhaps made a complaint to the council though, it didn't want to get the cobra kai karate group into trouble and it's similar to the original karate kid film : as well
Of course after watching Cobra Kai, I had to go back and watch the karate kid movies. With all the flashbacks and the focus on mr. Miyagi's teachings, one line in particular stood out from the movies. After miyagi saves Johnny from Kreese (in the parking lot after the tournament), Daniel asks him why he didn't kill Kreese. Mr. Miyagi States something to the effect of "for someone with no forgiveness in their heart, living is worse than death". In season 1 of Cobra Kai, we see that Daniel obviously has no forgiveness in his heart and is going against mr. Miyagi's teachings. I can't help but to think that this line is going to come into play during season 2 and or season 3.
@Gregory Smith The US is an empire and has added territory by force. Empires "win" land in wars. The claim that XYZ country started it is mute. Empires usually have some justification however dubious, helping the savages, defending an ally, stopping polish "aggression," or protecting co-coreligionist to expand. The idea that because the us doesn't always claim the territory in conquers as part of the US isnt a requirement. Empires also expand many times without officially claiming another country as part of the empire sometimes for generations. The US method early on was to send settlers in have them revolt or overthrow the leader then annex the area that their minions had conquered. US also declares itself protector of certain countries stateletes and they have to do what the US says or else.
@Gregory Smith Wait wut. How are we on the subject of European superiority and white guilt? I was talking about taking part in a war of aggression and taking the wrong lesson from it. On another note Mr Miyagi actually didn't fight for Japan he fought in WW2 for America fighting against German imperialism.
I see what you're saying but I don't entirely agree with respects to Miguel/Aisha; Miguel only ever showed real hostile behavior towards Robby, as any teen (especially if drinking) would if he saw a guy holding hands with his girlfriend. Miguel kept the same group of friends, and showed respect towards others at the tournament except for Robby, who he hated. And no, hitting his injured shoulder wasn't dirty. The yanking of his arm was dirty when he went to help him up was, but the shoulder is in the target area and Robby knew that. Sure, Miguel did become more aggressive due to the teachings of Cobra Kai, but he didn't go off the deep end like Hawk. Same with Aisha, who only became openly hostile to her bully. The real snake in this story I think is Samantha: she stood by and did absolutely nothing as Kyler physically bullied other kids (and even went out with him!) and also did nothing when her "friends" cruelly tormented Aisha- Samantha only turned away from these people when they turned on HER first! Kyler spread the rumor that she gave him a blow job at the theater/insulted her dad and the other girls turned on her when Kyler told them that she thought that she was better than they were. She was still going to continue being their friends, even though they were incredibly cruel towards Aisha- only Aisha forgave Samantha almost immediately, while Samantha didn't forgive Miguel, even though the whole mix up at the beach was an accident. Also Robby belongs in jail.
There's a TON of things left unfinished and story still to tell! I agree with a lot of what you say but Samantha did start to reject Kyler after she actually witnessed him bullying others. Before that, I don't think she ever knew. Regardless, my theory is that she will end up becoming a student of Johnny, rather than her father.
C'mon let's get serious here - who would you choose in such a scenerio Someone who raised you from a small innocent kid treated you like a king ( what danny and Amanda did to Anthony larusso ) in sam's case like a princess versus someone who struck a friend of your dad's - let's not forget when her own father specifically requested not to congregate with those bullies. You think you can judge sam larusso after what kyler did to her plus if she said something earlier jasmine and moon would have treated her similar This situation is mainly johnny's fault - telling Miguel a doctored story outside the receda mall gotta watch out for the larussos and alpha moves treating girls like crap when robby also had a crush on sam larusso but, think sam likely thought robby was just being friendly so robby is more at fault after sam informed him she had a boyfriend then proceeds to try to fight
Also : even though, she didn't stop them hassling her childhood friend nor did she join in the fun in the ridiculing so sam larusso can't be only held to blame
As for bobby : what did you expect after johnny abandoned him all his life then, he sees his dad with someone else who was the boyfriend of his crush plus he's not as bad as you think as he decided not to go through with the larussos auto dealership heist
@@ikechiihemeson6023 honestly I don't think so. I think that Hawk will become kreeses Miguel. And Miguel will recover and they will work together to take down kreese.
Same thing I thought. And to have a yin you have to have a yang. If Cobra Kai didn't come back, Miyagi Do never would've have existed either. Edit: I also believe that Daniel constantly talking about finding balance is foreshadowing to this.
Let's all agree the first Cobra Kai members were douche bags and bullies. Daniel in the new movie is kind of too emotional by his past memories and turns out to be a douche bag, that is just a little bit though. The new Johnny is more laid back and better. Perhaps his demise to fame humbled him
IDK if I could totally agree with that. I mean take Bobby, he was the one that tried to stop Johnny at the Halloween beat down. And even though he did make that illegal contact, he immediately protested before being pressured in the following orders. And lest we forget, he immediately apologized for it.
Of course the cobra kai karate gang were bullies in the original karate kid film - with the exception of bobby as even though, it was a bully he always knew when to draw the line If the cobra kai karate gang weren't jerks freddy fernandez and his so called buddies wouldn't have encouraged the fight while they were thinking danny was their new savior then when danny lost the beach conflict Freddy fernandez and his so called buddies who encouraged the beach conflict treated danny like a crab - what a bunch of posers and hypocrites
Exactly, johnny was starting to turn it around till his car gets destroyed by louie, until he sees his son with Daniel, until robby brings Sam over and daniel fights him for it
I like when Hawk wins a fight in the tournament, and rips off his shirt and flexes "shows" his stupid "hawk" tattoo, and the hot girl says he's "so amazing" or "bad ass" , but the intellectual guy says...."That actually works ?" Like the world is some weird backwards "Matrix", and saying that is so stupid but it's working cause the girl is totally head over heals.....so funny, and exactly what I was thinking. The writers did an amazing job, which you have to pay attention of the little things that happen.
@@AeneasGemini I like his over the top-ness, but they made him overly silly...but cool . ;) And the writers of the show wanted to give you that, cause that's how the 80s was. If you look back now at the 80s it's cool, but a lot of it is silly and sort of "weirdish", though cool back then. Go look at that tattoo again, it's so fucking stupid looking ! And him getting the fine "it" girl...that's so unreal. That ain't going to happen, but he did get a lot cooler. It was unreal...but entertaining. I wonder if I saw that tattoo in the 80s ...would I think it was cool ? ... not sure...probably not.
@@cndvd I have to say I disagree, I can see a girl getting impressed by exactly that sort of thing (and I have seen it in fact). Hawk's character is obviously exagurated quite a bit, but in a way he reflects the person who loves to be outwardly totally lacking shame and is completely without fear or anxiety in being themselves, and that is something which attracts a lot of women. Perhaps that is an 80s thing, but I love the 80s, I'd rather be in the 80s than the present to be frank. As someone born in the 90s I feel I definitely missed out, I relate to Johnny's character a lot in that I think modern world has many idiotic conventions with people taking certain things too seriously, perhaps we need an injection of the 80s to shake things up? But that's neither here nor there, I love this show (although I think this channel read it wrong), and Hawk was absolutely a pleasure to watch.
Yeah and how like StoryDive said about the Russian Revolution, in some ways the way online bullies target people is a lot more worse then the way people used to be bullied.
@Curt Christensen Nerds are the people that deserve to reproduce, so we advance as a culture, instead of stagnate, like the Roman Empire, which gave rise to the Dark Ages.
Russell Anderson you say nerds would produce better offspring, but these kids will grow up submissive, weak, unfit, and possibly even meaner ( thinking they are superior, looking down upon people with decent to low intelligence, and use their knowledge for their benefit and their's only). Balance is important in every aspect of life, we can't have a society of weak nerds or strong idiots. We need people who are fit and have at least an average IQ.
Cobra Kai is the best continuation of any movie or show I've seen! The Karate Kid movies were my favorite movies and still are ( with the acception of Lost Boys), to this day. CK has shown me there is always another side of the fence. Keep up the excellent work!
I don't think the interaction between Kreese and Johnny will be anything but simple. Martin Kove has said that the Kreese character is motivated by his history of being a Vietnam vet. The Movies tried to delve into this in the 3rd movie but it was so poorly written that it didn't get across. Strike fist, strike hard, no mercy. This is the moto of a defeated vet suffering from PTSD. Kreese will never lose again. Propery written there is a lot of potential for the Kreese character. How he deals with his PTSD is apt even today with our vets. I will be very upset if the writers treat this character as black and white. But I dont think they will.
I 100% agree with you. I am so sick of the show making Kreese the cliched bully, bad guy again. Even when I watched the first karate kid movie as a young teen, I knew there was much more to the Kreese character than just total "evil" I always thought Kreese had a haunted look in his eyes, (classic 100 yard stare) Then I saw the third movie and knew there was much more to the character. The movie started off okay, then totally dropped the storyline. Martin Kove is such an awesome actor and the show is not doing the Kreese character justice.
Cobra 🐍 kai karate group sensei Kreese was likely suffering from post traumatic stress disorder which doesn't make his antics excusable though, understandable
I know this is going to sound extreme to some, but this is the best written show since Breaking Bad. I honest believe that. (Season 1 of True Detective withstanding)
@@georgefreemon2935 Season 2 was just a rehash of season 1, which was great btw. Will gets tortured some more, his mother is still crazy, 11 does everything and kills the monster again. Aside from Steve being totally awesome, that season was nothing special.
I love how you explain in detail , how most people assume and not know why people bully or do things because it takes longer to find the truth it's easier to just make something up . You made a great video
Excellent analysis and I mostly agree. I like how Johnny and Daniel are both more complicated, neither fully good nor fully evil. I also like that Johnny towards the end of season 1 seems to be softening up, especially after he sees his own son get beaten up by his star pupil, only to have his old teacher return and make certain he stays true to the "dark side."
This is far and away the BEST video on the Cobra Kai series (and I've watched a TON). Well done, but I was Team Johnny in the it's and I'm digging in on team Cobra Kai now.
Cobra Kai was one of the best series I have ever seen. They did an amazing job with all aspects (especially helping the audience empathize with Johnny and with Daniel being a "prick" a few times). I am so looking forward to Season 2! Will be interesting to see if Johnny can stand up to Reese the way he did his step father!
Thats what makes it perfect! We all have to remeber that the characters are only kids! Teenagers! They are all good at heart. Robby is still a good guy at heart, what happened was a freak accident.Yes he lost the moral fight when he didnt accept miguel's honorable choice of mercy, but thats because he is flawed, not because he is evil. I think he will pay his penance in season 3,physically, mentally and spiritually as the guilt will try to consume him. But then like johnny (and hopefully daniel in season 3) he will notice the error of his ways/actions and will be a better man for it.
I don't know if we saw the same show... You say the show slowly shows the Cobra Kai kids turning into bullies rather than forcing it... Except it didn't... The Cobra Kai kids literally were sticking up for themselves finally as they gained confidence and strength and then suddenly in the last 2 episodes turned into crazed bullies seeking nothing but blood and victory, even going so far as to ignoring the Sensei they so revered, which made no sense... The show was amazing, but the factor you are praising(Slow development of the Cobra Kai kids) is literally absent and my ONLY issue with the show.
Yes, I do think the otherwise-great pacing suffers a bit around... episode 8 or 9 or whenever. I do still think it makes sense and that you can see the characters' motivations, but it definitely felt a bit sudden and could have been fleshed out more gradually.
This is was a great video and you have summed up perfectly why this show was so good. It is so deep in the story telling where you are almost crazy at times for wanting to root for Johnny instead of Daniel.
omg...that son. I find myself yelling at the tv, take his friggen computer and put that little asshat to work. My parents would have FLIPPED if i ever spoke to them the way he talks to his family.
@@story3877 Just like there is only a bad teacher and not a bad student, the same could also be said in that there is no such thing as a bad kid, only bad parents, also bad environments could also promote bad behaviour in children as well as bad parenting.
@@duncanshaw1256 As a former teacher, might i just say...YUPPPP! I taught freshmen in college and even I noticed how my students who preformed poorly often had issues at home (despite now living in the dorms, it followed them). Likewise it wasn't unusual for a student just just not click with me, and i would have to change my teaching style a bit during our one on on tutorials so they'd get it (and some times they just did not get it, but when they'd take the class again with another teacher they'd click and did much better. It's wild how much environment affects such things).
exactly. I thought the show did a great job of that with cyler. And it's always pretty easy seeing who the cylers are and who the johnny's or john benders are if you pay attention. That's what makes empathizing with everyone hard, and why the two types of people doing the bullying are lumped together
You lost me when you you said "johnny's political sensitivity". Thats what made him such a likable guy. He went old school with his mannerisms and speech to toughen up his students.
I like his character even as a Hispanic with the same descent as Miguel. He toughened his students and there were funny moments with his character. Miguel reveals how school brainwashes you with blah blah blah political correctness and safe spaces when the reality of it is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. Love his character.
It was a little over the top. I don't recall coaches talking shit to me. There would have been a problem. Where I'm from, people know not to go that route unless you're looking for a fight with a student, or parent.
The narrator said what youre saying. What makes Johnny cool is he remains "oblivious to current political sensitivities." You missed the word "oblivious." The narrator was not saying "johnny's political sensitivity." The opposite actually. So you and the narrator are in agreement.
While I feel you did an excellent job explaining the philosophy behind Cobra Kai's decent into corruption and taking on the role of the bully, I got to disagree with the idea that it was well-developed. It felt as if the shift came sudden and out of left field over the last two episodes of the season while Danny and Johnny's son were sort given an odd moment of redemption despite the moral ambiguity the two had throughout the start of the season. Left and right Danny is going against Johnny, losing the philosophies Miyagi had taught him, and becoming the bully Danny once hated. Rather than continuing down this plot line, the show seemed to make a sudden switch back to the 1984 Karate Kid, with all of a sudden Cobra Kai is the dojo of villains leading up to the tournament and Miyagi-do having the grounded philosophy to oddly paint themselves as the heroes of their own war story. While this could be the point, that the rage fueling the Cobra Kai fighting style could also fuel destructive and villainous behavior as quickly as a wildfire, it still felt like more of a twist to set up the second season rather than a natural progression. The reason I say this is because I'm afraid that the second season will cause Cobra Kai to dissolve as a dojo and meld with Danny and co. to make them the heroes once again. The show did do a good job at showing how the grounded philosophy of Miyagi-do brings forth a calming and wise nature in their students, but at the same time we saw that meeting a problem head on through the philosophies of Cobra Kai could prove to have a benefit to its disciples as well. While the catharsis of beating down those that have wronged you can lead down a violent path as shown to the end of the season, I pray that season 2 doesn't see this nature of feeling the need to kick the shit out of everyone you meet as the ultimate end of taking up Cobra Kai karate. Simply because Cobra Kai is the yin philosophy and Miyagi-do is the yang, this doesn't mean that one nature is superior and you can't have one nature exist without the other. In today's society we boast kindness, light, and passiveness as the end all be all, when at the end of the day you sometimes need to have a certain degree of resilience and strength to able to protect the good in the world when it is threatened. As the philosophy of yin yang shows, you can't have light without a shadow, and I just hope they give Cobra Kai dojo the chance to find their light instead of seeing Miyagi-do as the perfect "good," and sticking to the mark they'd been hitting on moral ambiguity that everyone loved at the start of the show. But as you said, Cobra Kai has been taking us in places we least expect so hopefully I'll be pleasantly wrong about my worry.
@@doctorducky9283 well she was cowardly and super annoying but she did the right thing eventually and the Robbie thing was a misunderstanding she should’ve just told Miguel

Thank you a very well written critique/analysis of the "Cobra Kai" series. You saved me a lot of work for my own review, by expertly covering the moral ambiguity angle.
I love your mind. Brilliant and well structured analysis once again. Once upon a time I wanted to start a channel doing this kind of content but chaotic life got in the way and it never happened. Thank you for articulating a lot of observations I've made so well for me so I can sit back and enjoy! You need more subs right now.
@@StoryDive I would but have been dealing with a lot and am completely burnt out (domestic violence, rape, homelessness etc. lost most of my belongings, don't have an income I can take time out to make videos on or a computer to edit, camera etc) I'm barely managing to hold it together, but watching your content helps take the edge off. Maybe I'll start posting written analytical articles someday, though, even if the traditional blog isn't as popular as they used to be. Keep up the good work.
Wow, great analysis bro! You totally nailed it. I don't have much hope for the second season though. It has become really hard to top season 1 and i am relly afraid that they are going to rely on easy solutions.
Great analysis. What a cool show man...i personally thought it would never work (..not be actually good..) Im really surprised and happy, being a child of the 80s myself
Cobra Kai played a big role in my teen life, due to the fact I was a background actor, for the Cobra Kai dojo, and I thought this video was well edited, well thought out, and an excellent analysis! Keep up the great work!
It would be interesting to see cobra Kai go into a realistic self defense class. Because they do indeed teach no mercy and stuff. It the real world stuff like that is needed.
"The once oppressed, risk becoming the oppressors themselves, by linking the source of corruption to the identities of their opponents, rather than their flawed philosophy or principles. And eventually, the identity of their opponents can become open to interpretation." Such an excellent point - and a lesson that many people need to learn unfortunately! Great video!!
"The fact that bullies often start as victims doesn't justify their actions, but fully understanding what made them who they are helps us understand the true problem and potential solutions for it". Nailed it.
Oh well - that's what happens when someone beats on someone then tries to take life on 3 separate occasions; however, if johhny exhibits genuine remorse and possibly apologizes to danny for all those previous vicious beatings and serious criminally indictable offences which could have very well led to a lengthy prison sentence - then - everyone deserves a second chance including, johnny
Myagi did swoop in and saved multiple lives from a lengthy prison sentence plus saved danny's unconcious life though, johnny acknowledged Danny at the end of the original karate kid film plus johnny stood up to his cobra 🐍 kai karate group sensei Kreese in the beginning of the second karate kid movie installment so youtube premiums, cobra 🐍 kai is basically johnny's redemption story ☺
Really good analysis of this awesome series! I'm a huge fan of Cobra Kai, to be honest. I also had a bit of a stomache ache, when I heard that they want to make a TV series out of the original Karate Kid movies, but they did a great job! Thank you for this analysis, I agree with most of what you say! :)
Finally a balanced and rational approach on the saga without feeling to have to root for one side like crazy. And getting the proper lessons and the bigger picture. Yes, "absolute power corrupts absolutely". No to excessive power to anybody anywhere.
I find Hawk to be an interesting character as I have heard people say that he is a villain in the cobra kai story because of his aggressive behaviour. Although I don't agree with his actions I believe they stem from a emotional oppression of his own bullying experience. Cobra kai gave him confidence and skills to fight so now when someone brings up an issue of his (lip, bed wetting etc) he feels the power to fight back, not from Johnny Lawrence and his teachings. Another point I have observed is that Kreeses ideologies matched more of what Hawk wanted out of fighting.
@Mitchell Hart If it's self defence (and defending agaist words counts) it's ok obviously. But being the agressive one is wrong. Strike first is wrong in that sense. So yeah, you are right, hypocrit is the exact right word
Daniel might not have been the bully in Karate Kid 1 but he definitely is in Cobra Kai and it doesn't change just cause he helped out one kid doesn't change the fact that he kept messing with a struggling business owner and even fucked over everyone else at that strip mall
@@wolfboy20 he wasn't really the 'victim', he had a few run ins and gave as good as he got. He even won the original tournament so he got over it. The only reason he was mad at Johnny is because he had other problems in his life (stress with his daughter, problems with competition at the car dealership), and he couldn't deal with those issues so he took it out on Johnny. Johnny was a dick (or rather he drew one) but Daniel only screwed with him because he didn't want to address his other angst
@@AeneasGemini You do make a good point there..I mean he had a lot of difficulty dealing with those things..but he still didn't have to fuck over johnny like that constantly. It ended up doing more harm than good anyways.
@@wolfboy20 Well to be honest I don't think it really made Daniel a bad person, it was mostly just petty really. And we're all a bit petty at times. I do think it was pretty bad to raise the rent though, that was the one thing that went too far. I mean that's actually messing with people's lives (although it did leed to a funny moment with the yoga class taking over the dojo, so silver linings eh)
You would too in turn dislike the cobra kai karate group if you were pushed off a steep embankment and were beaten to almost losing your life - just because that dangerous potentially fatal flying running kick didn't land that doesn't mean criminal intent wasn't there and it stayed there throughout the rest of the original karate kid film coupled with the cobra kai karate gang within the third installment of the karate kid movie. If danny was clever he would have gotten the authorities involved and told the council what the cobra kai karate teachings were corrupting the youth and danny was obviously correct in the end of the final episode and even johnny realised that after he saw robby injured
Great analysis. The moral complexity of the series was a huge draw to me. I would be interested to see what your predictions are now in light of the new season 2 trailer that just came out.
He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster . . . when you gaze long into the abyss the abyss also gazes into you. There is nothing wrong being a moster. Its good to be bad, annoying people leave you alone in peace and quiet. Oh, and sensei Lawrence was not planing to defend Miguel, he was just defending his car. One of the most stylish ever fabricated by man.
I don't agree I think johhny wanted to say something about the bullies yet didn't want to get invlolved until the car was affected then johnny thinks now it's my business - even though, johnny is still brutal - at least he warned Miguels bullies
Good video. A lot of people online don't seem to get a lot of the things you're going over in the video. Such as the criticism of Robby initially being bad and magically turning good. No, he was already 'good' but just needed a role model. They also don't get that it's supposed to be a negative that johnny is stuck in the 80s.
I just watched the whole series today. The best series I've seen for years. I was really rooting to Miguel over Bobby, but felt guilty about that at the end. I can't wait for season 2!
I did not realize this was a series and if I had I probably would have laughed before even attempting to watch it ...very interesting thank you...made me a fan
I love Kobra kai, its basically "Daddy issues the series": Johnny's abusive stepfather was the reason he seeks for Karate lessons and find a fatherly figure in sensei John Kreese Daniel used to live with his single mother, and Mr Miyagi was the farther he never had. Miguel was in the same situation, he live only with his mother and grandma. Robbie originally worked under Daniel as a way to get into his father nerve. Samantha goes back to Karate as a way to re connect with her father.
I could see Kreese taking Miguel under his wing in the next season which would cause Johnny to quit Cobra Kai and learn a thing or two from Daniel, then I think Miguel is probably gonna get his ass whooped like Johnny at the end of the first Karate Kid which would lead to his reform but hey that's just my idea
I think Johnny stays with Crease throughout season 2 as he continues to struggle with Robbie being Larusso's student (and everything about his relationship with Robbie). I agree though that at some point Johnny will likely pull it together and find the courage to kick Creases arse. At some point, Larusso will have to stop being such a bully and the 2 of them will come together to be friends and Robbie and Johnny will have a relationship finally.
Johnny's not a quitter he'll stay at Cobra Kai because he doesn't want Kreese to corrupt the kids especially Miguel any further he remembered how Miguel's mom didn't want him taking karate but his grandmother intervened & told him to go ahead & do it. It's like Miguel's family saying we're putting our trust in you to do right by our son & grandson. So Johnny will do his best to protect Miguel while trying to rebuild his relationship with his son whom I feel isn't Johnny's kid Robbie is doing things Johnny wouldn't do. My guess is that Johnny's ex cheated on him & got knocked up she knew if Johnny learned the truth he'd leave her so like his own mom Johnny's ex is now looking for a man to take care of her. Unlike Johhny's mom she hasn't hooked herself a rich older sugar daddy I'll bet Robbie's real dad is one of Johhny's old Cobra Kai friends.
Catspaw yeah, I think he's gonna stay at Cobra Kai with Kreese for a while, then he might quit because of Kreese which would be the big turning point of season 2
Great video, thank you for this! One thing I wondered though is that in the original trilogy, no backstory on Johnny's home life was ever established. However in the video "The Johnny Lawrence Story", which was made in the same satirical sense as "Daniel is the real bully", Johnny's dad is brought up and portrayed as a hard-ass rich guy with whom Johnny didn't get along. I'm wondering if it was this video on which Johnny's stepfather in Cobra Kai was based?
I did not expect the show to be good. I was blown away! I loved the constant conflict between the two main characters. Daniel started to appear to be the antagonist while Jonny was starting see the real worth of teaching his students by trial and error. I think in the last episode Jonny realized he passed his poison onto his student. And then that mega villain showed up in the end! AWWW SHIT SON! Will Jonny turn against his old master in season 2? Circumstances keep preventing old enemies from becoming friends. They get so close, and then shit goes down. I was glued the entire time. An amazingly satisfying watch!
Actually, there was no real bullying in the original karate kid, just that Daniel liked Ali, who had a relationship with Johnny. It was more of a love triangle thing than getting bullied. And the narrator is incorrect about the Czars, they were not corrupt but had no interest in the new world order and so they had to be dealt with. They stalled the plans that you see now happening all over the world. Countries going bankrupt, civil unrest, and wars and yes rumors of wars. Now back to the topic, Cobra Kai had bullies in it. Miguel now has a love interest, so his anger stems from that as you don't see Miguel bullying anybody. There is a reason for everything. The writers of this show did a good job with it.
Mark M. So far we haven't seen MIguel bully anyone else except for Robby. MIguel is angry because he thinks Robby is trying to or has stolen Samatha from his, but that is not the case. His own actions of Violence cause Samatha to break up with him. We will wee in the next season if MIguel and the Other Cobra Kai really do become bullies and if they do, will they try to go back to the LIght Side. Interestingly, in the Original Karate KId, I don't know if there is real evidence that the Johnny and the Other Cobra Kais have bullied anyone else besides from Daniel. I am not sure on this point. I do defintely agree with you that the Writers have done a great job with the Cobra Kai Series.
I didn't like how the video painted Lenin in a positive light. His brother was part of the militant Communists that killed the Czar who was working to liberate serfs and introduce Liberal reform to Russia. Lenin and Communists are not cool dudes. They're the exact opposite of positive and that is why they accepted a killer like Stalin into their higher ranks. It was Lenin, not Stalin who had his gang of thugs aim rifles at the people he lost the democratic election to after the revolution was over. Any sort of Lenin positivity is ridiculous. If anything Stalin should be praised because Trotsky would have been much more intelligent about spreading Communism and I'd be in a labor camp for even thinking of this right now.
@@HoldenNY22 your response is pretty much what I meant. Miguel didn't bully Robby, but thought he was also Samanthas boyfriend or trying to move in on her. Bullying is more like what the other kids to to Miguel and Eli, by calling Miguel Rhea and tossing Eli's backpack in the garbage just because. Now that's bullying. I been bullied in school myself, there is a difference. But the main thing is, this series is pretty realistic, I like it.
@@alcapone7589 indeed, I didn't want to go deeper into it, but Stalin was put in that place. What happened then has happened in just about every country throughout the ages by the same plan created by Albert Pike. They are following his plans and are about to complete them soon. A new world order. Its all part of their plan.
It seems if you pay more attention to Johnny face that he's becoming more and more sorry that he even train these kids because the more they become how he used to be the more he's beginning to want to be more like Daniel and start to train kids that would defeat the Cobra Kai
Not really, the whole final episode seemed like one big Straw man argument against Johnny's teaching, I guess because the show couldn't end on "aggression is good guys". I don't think Daniel's teaching method could've helped all the other kids. They needed a dose of Johnny's teaching style. Every 'bad' event that happened with Johnny's students was played up a fair bit, more than they should've been. Miguel's final move was rules legal and it's not like it crippled robby for life, Hawk attacking that guy from behind was nothing to do with "being a pussy" and was just inserted as part of the straw man (a real 'alpha male' type wouldn't attack from behind, they'd want to dominate properly). Miguel getting drunk and angry and having an accident is something that happens when people get drunk. And being jealous is a natural reaction to a set of circumstances that make you suspicious. Also really didn't help that Sam acted like she was ashamed of him with her dad.
Hawk became a punk - goes from a bullied kid to a aggressive know it all with over confidence and perhaps if he doesn't stop that downward spiral hawk might taking out his frustrations on moon and if hawk continues even more will eventually come across the wrong victim or victims is out there
As for Miguel : he's still got a chance as long as he doesn't fall into the grasp of Mike Barnes, terry silver or perhaps ex cobra kai karate group sensei Kreese
The way I see it is that johnny is slowly changing for the better as he acknowledged danny at the end of the original karate kid film especially after that vicious Halloween evening beating within the original karate kid film
The beauty of Cobra Kai is that it chooses to live in the shades of grey that the vast majority of films ignore. Flawed protagonists, likeable relatable antagonists, character arcs that cross over the imaginary line between "good" and "bad."
I read an article in Ruthless Reviews about how Johnny Lawrence was a misunderstood hero before that video came out and it was a great read. LaRusso was a little geeky kid but still trying to grab the girl. Johnny knocks him tot he ground and then LaRusso punches him which to me seemed a bit harsh. And now for nothing I think Ali loved the boys fighting after her and if we remember part 2 she left Daniel for a college guy so really maybe she was the villain after all. I hope she comes back in the third and we see her as some scumbag lawyer which make a lot of sense of some 75 year old guys trophy wife.
If you're interested in finding out what really happened within the karate kid movies - feel free to check out my unfinished anylys of the karate kid movies within the comments section of the youtube video, daniel is the real bully in the karate kid Yes - allison was sneaky and wanted to get back at danny because of the creepy eye contact and trying to make johnny jealous As for the ruthless reviews bull dust story is not entirely correct for the following reasons 1. Johnny was basically not perfect - johnny admitted he was a ace degenerate after Tommy called him out on it and even bobby advised him to let it go 2. Johnny wasn't in the position of now demanding a now diplomatic solution 3. That's not how a bloke should treat a girl 4. Grabbing the radio and then proceeded to shove the radio into danny's chest just after some extortion and intimidation therefore makes the weapon - giving danny the legal right to defend himself 5. The bloke who produced the ruthless review failed to mention the roundhouse kick to danny's gut 6. There's no such thing as sucker punches in ongoing fights besides, johnny was basically messing and taunting danny 7. Watch the soccer team tryouts again and you will notice that johnny and his cobra kai buddies were likely planning more attacks such as a headlock or further pushing 8. The bike attack was serious - that was no accident as johnny pushed danny twice. The situation was legally classified as, gang stalking, threatening danny telling him to go back to new Jersey equals intimidation and attempted vehiclar homicide plus failing to stop and check on someones welfare after a serious traffic collision which is basically hit and run causing danny to fall flat on his face and was almost paralysed causing danny to lie there from a period of 20 minutes to 2 hours - that was serious 9. When the cobra kai karate group decided to commit some criminally indictable offences which included, gang stalking, violent shaking, aggravated assault and battery with the intent of causing grevious bodily harm, malicious wounding and attempted homicide with that last running kick When myagi downed those cobra kai karate gang masked attackers - he let them be - a courtesy dutch and ruthless reviews chum didn't extend after bobby pleaded for them to stop After that vicious Halloween evening attack danny had the legal right to do almost anything he pleased
You could double check with a reasonable doctor the Halloween evening beating but, it's extremely unlikely that danny would have survived that last running kick as he already was dilarious and almost unconcious
As for allison : look at her after the mentioned creepy eye contact she said something whispering but, I didn't understand as I'm not that good of a lip reader so she decided to pit the pair against each other though, in my opinion : don't think danny meant any harm he was more looking at her with awe . Also : She should have waited to talk to danny somehere else instead of public flirting on the soccer field. At the Halloween evening function she encouraged danny - first she scolds johnny at the beach and then wanted to see johnny get a taste of his own medicine. Even the beach scene didn't go down like the article claimed
Ruthless reviews also referred to allison as exclusive property mister johnny Lawrence and doesn't mention the roundhouse kick to the gut besides , danny was willing to it go if johhny did and what was johnny's response : saying no mercy and drops danny to the ground
Great video l. This shows the inner philosophy I didnt see. I was just going strike hard, strike first, no mercy though the whole thing. I didnt see the bigger picture, but this video helped me see it.
I'm gonna say I really like Johnny's character cause I feel like he has a really good heart underneath it all. And I really seem to see Miguel take on the exact same type of personality Johnny had when he was a kid, and I'm also gonna say that either Johnny or Daniel being the real bully really depends on which point of view you're coming from. Personally I think that both Johnny and Daniel had their reasons and both of them can be found at fault in my opinion. I think that Johnny is gonna have a sort of change of heart and mold Cobra Kai into something more respectful in the end, and I especially hope we get to see him kick his old masters ass and eventually become a better influence for all of his pupils. I honestly want Cobra Kai to win.
just a small thing... Power doesn't corrupt, power only reveals. If we receive power, we normally show the world what it is we want. otherwise i 100% agree with everything else you said.

+Tipsy Twinky - Exactly! Spot-on!
That's part of what makes the reappearance of his old teacher such a surprise.
he was trying to be different, but end up turning them into the same thing
The title of the last episode is "Mercy", so I thought Johnny would already realize that Krease's methods were flawed and that at least the last rule has to be amended, at some point. But in hindsight, it probably would've been to quick for this turn. I'm really looking forward to the 2nd season.
he knew from the start @@needycatproductions6830
Sick Boy Valdez That's because they didn't have enough episodes.
That's a good point, that's what I thought.
Enjoyed watching the new new youtube red premium series, cobra kai
In the original karate kid film : johnny was on his way to take danny's life with that last running kick so not only did myagi save danny's life - myagi also saved johnny from a lengthy prison sentence so johnny wouldn't have moved into the receda area and wouldn't have met Miguel hence : wouldn't have been able to temporarily save Miguel from those bullies outside the convenience store Plus johnny saved Miguels life after that vicious Halloween evening beating so basically johnny became the new mister myagi and Miguel was basically the new danny
The best line in the video “No one thinks their a bully. A bully’s actions are justified from their own perspective.
@@gregbrancwash Oh no I'll do it just because too.
Greggy Pearls Not really, it’s pretty obvious who’s the bully and who’s the victim. Or otherwise it’s two guys fighting each other.
His anti-PC attitude is refreshing in this day and age.
galnhus56 agreed
Well the closing scene was the introduction of another conflict for him to deal with. Another evil to tempt him. He walked away from his bully step-dad. He confronted Larusso. He tried to do right by Robbie ... but failed. Now in a moment of weakness, will he be able to resist the temptation to fall into that same trap?
If the entire character persona is being anti-PC, he's NOT a good character. Same thing works the other way around.
@@emeraldashborers4261 you don't get it
Im pretty sure that Hawk is going to end up with Kreese.
Then that would mean Daniel and Johnny will team up against team Kreese.
Nah. SAM will bc Daddy won't let her be her. He's gonna drive her and his wife away bc he's totally consumed by his hatred of Johnny.
Danny was obviously 100 % correct on the cobra kai karate group - danny warned Miguel and yet Miguel didn't listen - now look how Miguel plus hawk has become - they're both violent and unstable aggressive hacks who like to force their own way in order to manipulate basically to get to their own goals
Danny could have gotten the cobra kai karate group shut down if he really wanted to by contacting law enforcement agency officers and perhaps involving the local council yet danny didn't - danny just wanted the new generation not to suffer like he did in the original karate kid film
Can't wait for season 2!!
danny's aggression level against CK before walking in and seeing what its like, doubling the whole shopping centers rent... ya hes a villain
Idk man cyler was almost 100% consistently punchable
To me the whole point of the show was to break the Villain and Hero stereotype and show that, no one is perfect, But oh boy do the fans LOVE to victimize and Villanize, sometimes literal TEENAGERS for not knowing better
@@-mafuyufachera-2481 well yeah but cyler didn’t have ANY redeemable qualities and was pretty much a full on sociopath

MH3Raiser at the end you kinda reminded me of Naruto
stop being a pussy
@Deplorable Cat Yeah... that's what I DID. What I'm saying is that the fear is always there, even if you get really good at dealing with it: the fear of being beaten down again.
@@MH3Raiser I once saw a youtube video of a guy so traumatised by bullying he home-schooled his own kids many years later in life for fear they would get bullied too. It affected him so much it robbed his kids from the possibility of having a normal childhood.
Okay but how would you suggest stopping the cycle? At the end of the day you still have to fight them if it means defending yourself. And therein lies the issue.
Robby is not the good guy and neither is Larusso’s daughter. They provoked the whole cobra Kai vs Miyagi dojo quarreling
Christian Estrellado I certainly see your point. Matter fact that's a really valid point. Cause throughout the first season it seemed like Robby and Sam(Daniel's daughter) were causing the feud between Johnny and Daniel to escalate further and further
Samantha could've tried talking to her father about Miguel
Both Kreese and Miyagi were vets who had fought imperialist wars for their country but took away opposite lessons.
Yeah I agree about the mishappenings at the end between miquel and sam.. but that's the creators way of not giving us what we want
C'mon let's get serious here - who would you choose in such a scenerio
Someone who raised you from a small innocent kid treated you like a king ( what danny and Amanda did to Anthony larusso ) in sam's case like a princess versus someone who struck a friend of your dad's - let's not forget when her own father specifically requested not to congregate with those bullies. You think you can judge sam larusso after what kyler did to her plus if she said something earlier jasmine and moon would have treated her similar
This situation is mainly johnny's fault - telling Miguel a doctored story outside the receda mall gotta watch out for the larussos and alpha moves treating girls like crap when robby also had a crush on sam larusso but, think sam likely thought robby was just being friendly so robby is more at fault after sam informed him she had a boyfriend then proceeds to try to fight
I think we will all realise the truth: this is really the story of Hawk.

Same thing I thought. And to have a yin you have to have a yang. If Cobra Kai didn't come back, Miyagi Do never would've have existed either.
Edit: I also believe that Daniel constantly talking about finding balance is foreshadowing to this.
True, Maybe that was the balance Misagi was talking about?
I’m still team Cobra Kai I really hope Johnny does the right thing
Let's all agree the first Cobra Kai members were douche bags and bullies. Daniel in the new movie is kind of too emotional by his past memories and turns out to be a douche bag, that is just a little bit though. The new Johnny is more laid back and better. Perhaps his demise to fame humbled him
IDK if I could totally agree with that. I mean take Bobby, he was the one that tried to stop Johnny at the Halloween beat down. And even though he did make that illegal contact, he immediately protested before being pressured in the following orders. And lest we forget, he immediately apologized for it.
Of course the cobra kai karate gang were bullies in the original karate kid film - with the exception of bobby as even though, it was a bully he always knew when to draw the line
If the cobra kai karate gang weren't jerks freddy fernandez and his so called buddies wouldn't have encouraged the fight while they were thinking danny was their new savior then when danny lost the beach conflict Freddy fernandez and his so called buddies who encouraged the beach conflict treated danny like a crab - what a bunch of posers and hypocrites

And him getting the fine "it" girl...that's so unreal. That ain't going to happen, but he did get a lot cooler. It was unreal...but entertaining.

Your analysis is spot on and very pertinent.
Jason P show lack of real human respect of Cobra Kai.. there is limit of defense... johnny see that when he saw how hawk react on tournament
Yes, I do think the otherwise-great pacing suffers a bit around... episode 8 or 9 or whenever. I do still think it makes sense and that you can see the characters' motivations, but it definitely felt a bit sudden and could have been fleshed out more gradually.

I like his character even as a Hispanic with the same descent as Miguel. He toughened his students and there were funny moments with his character. Miguel reveals how school brainwashes you with blah blah blah political correctness and safe spaces when the reality of it is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. Love his character.

fantastic analysis. the thoughtful nature is admirable. definitely do more of these!

Good points and history of karate kid and theory of cobra Kai.
Cobra Kai season 2 can't wait!!!
Fighting back is ok but Hawk became a bully himself. I don't like him at all
@Mitchell Hart If it's self defence (and defending agaist words counts) it's ok obviously. But being the agressive one is wrong. Strike first is wrong in that sense. So yeah, you are right, hypocrit is the exact right word
@Mitchell Hart that sounds perfect actually. I would also never fight if it's not the only solution
Just wanna say that this video is well written and executed. Good job!
Daniel might not have been the bully in Karate Kid 1 but he definitely is in Cobra Kai and it doesn't change just cause he helped out one kid doesn't change the fact that he kept messing with a struggling business owner and even fucked over everyone else at that strip mall
Facts tho! The guy was being petty as fuck. But then again, being a victim of bullying can make you act a certain way because of trauma
I don't agree
I think johhny wanted to say something about the bullies yet didn't want to get invlolved until the car was affected then johnny thinks now it's my business - even though, johnny is still brutal - at least he warned Miguels bullies
Wow! This was well said I really enjoyed listening to how insightful you explained bullying ! 👍🏽👍🏽
Daniel = Bully and Anti-hero
Johnny = Fallen hero seeking redemption
Master Miyagi = child abuser
What an insightful analysis on all! Cheers!
I see Johnny turning good like how Drago turned good at the end of Creed 2.
Was he ever really that bad tho
@@bgghhhbbb8279 both, Drago was a bit of a mix
This is absolutely great. It is exactly the essay that an iconic movie like Karate Kid and the great show Cobra Kai deserves
My breakdown of the Cobra Kai season 2 full trailer that came out yesterday: ruclips.net/video/PjtugrTWbxU/видео.html
We need more bullies.
I did not realize this was a series and if I had I probably would have laughed before even attempting to watch it ...very interesting thank you...made me a fan
I love Kobra kai, its basically "Daddy issues the series":
Johnny's abusive stepfather was the reason he seeks for Karate lessons and find a fatherly figure in sensei John Kreese
Daniel used to live with his single mother, and Mr Miyagi was the farther he never had.
Miguel was in the same situation, he live only with his mother and grandma.
Robbie originally worked under Daniel as a way to get into his father nerve.
Samantha goes back to Karate as a way to re connect with her father.
🤔🤔, that's a nice perspective of seeing it
Daddy Issues: The Series, Petition to change to that name
Don’t usually watch these “type” of vids but this is very good.
I could see Kreese taking Miguel under his wing in the next season which would cause Johnny to quit Cobra Kai and learn a thing or two from Daniel, then I think Miguel is probably gonna get his ass whooped like Johnny at the end of the first Karate Kid which would lead to his reform
but hey that's just my idea
Yep, yep - totally agree - plenty of others are saying the same thing as Mike Barnes likely wants in on action as well
I think Johnny stays with Crease throughout season 2 as he continues to struggle with Robbie being Larusso's student (and everything about his relationship with Robbie).
Prolly get his ass kicked by his girlfriend or x
Great video, thank you for this! One thing I wondered though is that in the original trilogy, no backstory on Johnny's home life was ever established. However in the video "The Johnny Lawrence Story", which was made in the same satirical sense as "Daniel is the real bully", Johnny's dad is brought up and portrayed as a hard-ass rich guy with whom Johnny didn't get along. I'm wondering if it was this video on which Johnny's stepfather in Cobra Kai was based?
I wonder how different the show would be if pat was still alive. Aka mr miyagi
Cool analysis. I really like that Cobra Kai's storytelling isn't just one dimensional good guy vs bad guy.
A second sneak peek for Season 2 was released and once again, I respond to it and break it down: ruclips.net/video/iUILAX2RfUU/видео.html
Quiet!!!
Awesome analysis, I really enjoyed it. Season 2 trailer lookin good...
Gotta say I'm really impressed by the plot analysis in the comments. Good job guys.
The next season will have Sam kissing at least 5 different guys.
Roar Koo she’s a WHORE
Can’t stand her, to be very honest
@@allegramanini8794 can't stand her brother. Little fuckin shit I wanna throw at a wall
@@redhood7650 True though, Fucking little brat, he doesn’t even know how to do anything
Nah, I honestly want her to stay with Miguel. I hate Tory with Miguel. I just can't stand Tory what so ever.
It seems pretty clear that Johnny and Daniel are going to team up and teach each other at some point.
If you're interested in finding out what really happened within the karate kid movies - feel free to check out my unfinished anylys of the karate kid movies within the comments section of the youtube video, daniel is the real bully in the karate kid
Yes - allison was sneaky and wanted to get back at danny because of the creepy eye contact and trying to make johnny jealous
As for the ruthless reviews bull dust story is not entirely correct for the following reasons
1. Johnny was basically not perfect - johnny admitted he was a ace degenerate after Tommy called him out on it and even bobby advised him to let it go
2. Johnny wasn't in the position of now demanding a now diplomatic solution
3. That's not how a bloke should treat a girl
4. Grabbing the radio and then proceeded to shove the radio into danny's chest just after some extortion and intimidation therefore makes the weapon - giving danny the legal right to defend himself
5. The bloke who produced the ruthless review failed to mention the roundhouse kick to danny's gut
6. There's no such thing as sucker punches in ongoing fights besides, johnny was basically messing and taunting danny
7. Watch the soccer team tryouts again and you will notice that johnny and his cobra kai buddies were likely planning more attacks such as a headlock or further pushing
8. The bike attack was serious - that was no accident as johnny pushed danny twice.
The situation was legally classified as, gang stalking, threatening danny telling him to go back to new Jersey equals intimidation and attempted vehiclar homicide plus failing to stop and check on someones welfare after a serious traffic collision which is basically hit and run causing danny to fall flat on his face and was almost paralysed causing danny to lie there from a period of 20 minutes to 2 hours - that was serious
9. When the cobra kai karate group decided to commit some criminally indictable offences which included, gang stalking, violent shaking, aggravated assault and battery with the intent of causing grevious bodily harm, malicious wounding and attempted homicide with that last running kick
When myagi downed those cobra kai karate gang masked attackers - he let them be - a courtesy dutch and ruthless reviews chum didn't extend after bobby pleaded for them to stop
After that vicious Halloween evening attack danny had the legal right to do almost anything he pleased
In my opinion : johnny and danny were both bullies and both antoganised each other within the original karate kid film
Great video l. This shows the inner philosophy I didnt see. I was just going strike hard, strike first, no mercy though the whole thing. I didnt see the bigger picture, but this video helped me see it.
All these years later... this show is getting me even more involved in this story and these characters than I was when I was a kid. I fuckin love it.
Good job! So stoked for next season!
Error - Daniel has a son - he just wants nothing to do with karate
Hence the saying "the son he never had".
just a small thing...
Power doesn't corrupt, power only reveals.
If we receive power, we normally show the world what it is we want.
otherwise i 100% agree with everything else you said.

Yeah : already did - not bad @ all
Very good analys and I don't think I could have put it better myself
RUclips premiums, cobra 🐍 kai
Was put together by a totally different production crew including the writers so basically can't compare them too much though, at the same time they're doing alright for the resources they have at this present point
If Johnny was a villian as you claim name one time he unprovoked attached Daniel or your simply wrong and are spreading miss information
@keiichi Maebara your a fool this the show is showing how sometimes the good guy doesn't always win and the guy who you say made the video this video reference is has a reply video saying it is not satire
Think that johnny was nervously invading alices personal space and who knows what could have happened if danny boy didn't intervene at the beach
Man, I LOVED this analysis!
