The problem was Robby was never truly taught the Miyagi Do philosophy in its purest form because Daniel had a vengeful spirit himself. It's a classic case of the blind leading the blind. All the talk about CK students are inherently bad along with Daniel's initial motives of opening the dojo to get back at Cobra Kai influenced his students to hate CK as well. Miyagi would never have approved of Daniel's actions.
@@NB-hb3uj Yes, but he looked up to his sensei and mentor Miyagi and took everything he said as law over anything else. And the bottom line is Miyagi didn't initially train Daniel with the motive to shut down John Kreese and the Cobra Kai dojo in the first KK. Miyagi didn't even want to originally train Daniel to fight Mike Barnes after Barnes kept baiting Daniel to do so. Daniel would have disappointed Miyagi greatly.
@@drestathagangsta8880 These are movies or shows nobody is perfect i believe if you really love like Miagi did with Daniel like a son he probably would have supported him. Like giving him a car and letting him be in his life.
If Mr Miyagi was still alive, this show would have ended after the first episode of season 1. Daniel would have complained to Mr Miyagi about seeing cobra Kai opening back up and Mr Miyagi would have told him to chill out “Daniel-San. You still in high school?” Daniel: no...but-- “-you still worry about high school boy beating you up?” Daniel: no but- “Go home. Enjoy big house and nice family. Have sex with beautiful wife.” Miyagi would have told Daniel he was being stupid and to worry about his own life. People forget that Miyagi didn’t even want to teach Daniel karate at first. In karate kid 3, he refused to train Daniel further for the tournament. Miyagi knows that karate-even his karate-can be misused so he is not eager at all to teach it to people Daniel jumps at any chance to teach someone karate-and he never stops to ask himself “wait, should I teach this kid karate?” Miyagi would have viewed the dojo rivalry as silly and he would have told Daniel he was being silly
@@benjaminlrd9599 yes it is. And if he ever did tell Daniel to have sex with her I think he would say it like this: Daniel san. Focus on family not cobra kai. Go relax. Have sex with pretty wife
That is a main issue I have seen Daniel is taking everyone without questioning motive or reasons. Robby and hawk both have anger issues before karate ever began. If Miyagi was teaching them yes, he would teach them how to channel the anger first. And probably decide one or both don't need a deadly weapon on top of their anger. Its similar to giving them a loaded gun, to fight high school bullies. Miyagi would have seen that, probably declining to teach Robby, and hawk if he had came there. Daniel in the original was angry at times, but righteous anger 5 against 1 fights there was no way to win, and those kids had no intention of laying off him..he often didn't help himself like the bathroom scene with the water pipe, funny hells yeah, smart uh no...not knowing u would have the gang looking for u and payback. He was a kid or played as one lol, and teens think with emotion, not logic often. Hell many adults today still do. Why Miyagi then later Daniel taught karate comes from the mind and heart never the gut. We often associate emotion with the heart, logic with the mind. But doing things in a gut impulse rarely works out well, and usually regretted. Its where we feel emotions truly, get butterflies when anxious ,or nausea, when sad feel like kicked in the gut and so forth. Revenge also comes from there,.when often letting it go is wisest, most logical we still feel the revenge need, and the push to do it be tough, show them, be a man ( or woman) even when logic if we stopped and thought about it would say what u said Mr. Miyagi would say exactly. Why worry about teen rival not hurting you ? You're a success proved yourself let it go. Daniel sure would not be losing his wife, his lifestyle, kids seriously injured over anger, as the anger built between the two dojos, various fights, friendships and relationships within the kids. Daniel would have watched sam closer not begged her to be his friend, but let her know he was instead her parent. Every mom knows they did well if their teen daughter esp says I hate you u ruined my life! They know they don't run the house. Ruined teenage life doesn't come without punishments that last to leave the needed impression..i know long winded but look at the facts in 2 seasons : sam was involved with a hit and run, mom took her phone and internet etc a day tops, AFTER those were taken, she ran to the beach , instead of straight home. Very next scene sam is on her phone. Needed it taken way longer than a day or so. Mom then is a snob says she knows what its like to be in an unpopular clique and be called a nerd. Aisha and sam go way back, she meets popular mega bitch Yasmin, and treats aisha like crap, u don't sit with others with an im sorry smile.and shrug, when they hurt and old, and dear friend that has a hard time fitting in. Next she still stands by her snob friend as she makes a photo of aisha eating adding pig affects and sending to everyone in the school..sam.still gives that sorry smile and i didn’t do it just hanging with those that did look. She should have said not my kind of friends unless they were ? Daniel was chapeeoning, yet in the gym no one asked why all were laughing at a text all got at once u dont miss that daniel wasn't technology dead. You hear 100 or more phones ping, laughter, looking at aisha, then she bolts ? Did they die lol. Camera not even show their reaction. Ok skip to sam back and forth on miguel ashamed of letting her dad meet him cause of his dojo, that's pretty nasty too. Dad would have gotten over it once he met miguel, maybe even realized all ck not bad people even, his teen belief crushed lol. Go forward sam is drinking twice, she is 16 just got her license and is drinking ? Cause for heart attack do they take her license beyond the last.day at school daniel drove her ? I have to honestly doubt it with their record with her. She needs some guidance before tragedy occurs not a half day phone taken or kne.day license taken. She is heading for serious problems if they don't get their self centered needs out and kids in. I know they work ,they can also hire temporary help. If he is going to Okinawa for unknown amount of time he further abandons his responsibility to them. Sam is being the new ali noticeably flipping between two guys, mind gaming. One video before this they said Daniel seen Robby as the son he never had hmm I could swore he had a son Anthony that he doesn't spend the time with he does with sam at all..they both said he was a mistake from karate moves ten years prior how does anyone knows they are unwanted, and not fit in act. Imagine what Miyagi would say about both kids. They are not bad kids, just need their parents in their life as parents, not friends. He is unmotivated, and seems lazy wth daniel sam is grown mostly, she needs guidance yes, Anthony is ten he needs time spent with him. After sam has non approved pool party her mom pulls Daniel away from.trying to assert authority. She should suffer some embarrassment she had an unauthorized party that later Daniel is cleaning up the mess? Sam had the party she needs to clean up not dad..as part punishment and learning consequences. The only stuff Anthony did as a minor part was when daniel did assert authority he just orders another! He would not get that i would break it, sell it, or throw in the pool. Just goes around orders whatever he wishes at any price really at ten? Then when at the beach club I guess it was his dad says get off that let's go get a drink, he replies nah not worth it. Then yells a minute later demanding his soda like dad is his waiter. I have a temper Daniel claims to he would get the soda right over the head. They worry they may become entitled Encino kids, may become ? Think been there. Mix in letting Robby a relatively unknown kid to them move in, they habe a daughter same age, no ground rules set.sje walks in his bedroom, doesnt even knock ,grandma came in busted up making out asking for problems. And no one even notices the attraction that was clearly obvious, even in a minute glance to miguel. So he left upset. maybe its me, Not used to these new crappy parenting styles, kidsmrun the house and parents, meals are requested, as per kids likes, little rules,no consequences. let them treat others like crap to be popular etc. Nope not for me. I raised twins boy/girl now 27 lived on own a long time. No grandkids still,.neither ever had a run In with the law, had jobs at 15, neither ever fired , no drugs in 2020.u call.that a win. They are not perfect by far, nor am I. They had normal kid issues like everyone. They both know one ok two things 1. Best tell me, ( as kids) cause if I find out some other way any hope of sympathy is gone cause I am pizzed lol. And we still have very open relationships. 2. If u are stupid enough to get a dui don't even assume to call me for bail. I think sitting there bored, half terrified gives u plenty of time to decide where u went wrong lol. Lessons learned best are often learned the hard way. I am not mean nor cold,or uncaring..i am like johnny in the sense.of how he sees todays kids soft and crybaby, overprotected,.and coddled that gets you no where in the world. One last thing about moving robby in he was stabbing at johnny he should have seen where and who his dad was as daniel didn't know then. If mom split dad needed to step in, or give permission. In turn when sam was at johnnys after the party , daniel was furious he didn't call him, but johnny didn't deserve the same respect. Daniel feels he is the Supreme parent too and began to rub me the wrong way. Johnny had problems and wasn't prepared to be a dad early on. Later Robby seen thru moms lies about him when she said he wanted him to live with him. Johnny was trying she filled his head to hate his dad ugh. I hope in season 3 he is with his dad where he should be. It may be the best thing for johnny also to stop drinking when anything goes wrong. Robby needs a.parent he can depend on and johnny can be that parent, not at the start, but now yep. He will have food, shelter, electric and not evicted or moms creeps all the time. Be rough work out the past both have hot tempers. Over time they will bond, its never too late to have some sort of relationship. Being responsible for anyone but himself will help johnny a lot. He can also change how he was treated, into how he wanted to be treated by step dad.
Mirrors the difference between mixed martial arts, where everything seem to evolve about how to fight, versus traditional martial arts, which primarily focus on character development.
@@Daniel_Fo77 Yeah. If there is ONE criticism I have with traditional martial arts, is its "kata" component. Why do you need to learn TEN sets of katas in order to be seen as developing some sort of mastery, when all you need are drills and pressure testing to determine the same thing? Oh, well...
@@dswynne :Kata/Poomse is heavily misunderstood. There are very useful on many levels. The only problem, other than the lack of understanding, is how many ther are in most styles. I am currently trying to get ours reduced by half in my organization.
Random thought: I feel like Dimitri is the one who really embodied the Miyagi-Do "self defence only" rule the most. In the final fight, he ran away from Hawk the best he could and only fought when he had no other choice. Also, after Hawk fell down, Dimitri walked away and chose not to pummel him even though he easily could have done.
what you failed to realize is dimitri is the one who influenced the beef between himself and hawk he talked to much he was wrong for bringing out the bed wetting thing at one point it seemed as though hawk wanted to talk to him and settle their differences at that party but dimitri as usual open his mouth negatively and ruined it how exactly did he embody miyagi do exactly instead of fighting or bullying physically he was a verbal nuisance to everyone
The Karate Kid was a story about two guys competing for a girl who most likely didn't care about either dojo but was more interested in her status in getting together with the winner, in the end she married a doctor and dropped them both.
Johnny blames Daniel for "stealing" Ali yet he fails to realize that She didn't really love Daniel either because She dumped him at the Prom for a UCLA Football Player. Miguel and Robby are repeating this over Sam yet when She gets to College She would dump both of them for a Frat Boy. These Guys need to become Friends and realize that fighting over these Bitches wasn't worth it. There are Women that are way better than Ali and Sam.
Either mistreatment myagi got her to do chores and told her to lie to daniel larusso so they could both get her off their back or perhaps johnny and his cobra 🐍 kai karate group got together with allison and busted up danny's car 🚗 with baseball bats Another possibility is that she left danny larusso most likely for that guy who arrived shortly after danny and Allisons first date and tried to bribe her in the flashy car 🚘 - pretty sure that his name was , Eddie
IMO. I actually hope that Johnny brings Mr. Miyagi up again in Cobra Kai. I wouldn’t mind knowing what Johnny thought of him, even though they never really spoke to each other. I mean, he did save Johnny from getting choked out.
Great video. I feel like season 1 showed the flaws in Johnny's philosophy (or what it was at the time). However season 2 showed the flaws of Daniel's philosophy. In season 1, it ends with a bitter cobra kai victory, while season 2 ends with a bitter Miyagi Do victory. In a way they are two sides of the same coin.
Season 2 was not a Miyagi Do victory. A Miyagi Do victory would be peace between dojos, not people hurt on both sides. Also looking at the numbers Cobra Kai was still way ahead, Eli and Stingray beat multiple people while Aisha remained undefeated
Great analysis. Although I wouldn't call Season 2 a victory for Miyagi Do outside of Sam being the lone exception beating Tory. Robby cheapshotted Miguel after the fact out of pride and anger because he knew Miguel bested him again imo. And then Eli and Stingray beat up countless Miyagi students during the brawl.
@@drestathagangsta8880 Sam didn't exactly get the purest of victories, either. She went to the hospital while Tory went to karate class, and it isn't like Sam didn't play her part in causing the whole situation to begin with. Robby was angry about losing, sure. But he also had a lot of other things going on. His mother, who abandoned him for at least two months, went off to rehab. Less than 24 hours after that, he lost the place he was staying, his mentor, and his dojo because Sam decided to be a drunk idiot. And while he clearly accuses Miguel of taking advantage, I have to wonder if he doesn't suspect deep down that Sam simply cheated on him. We know he's insecure because we saw it with the Medal of Honor situation.
Milla Ray True about Robby as an insecure person. His feud with Miguel is personal because of Johnny and Sam. Johnny, because Robby sees him as paying more attention to Miguel than him. Sam, because Robby is envious of possible lingering feelings between her and Miguel.
@@millaray9912 Robby is one hundred percent finding out the truth whether it be from Daniel, Sam, or someone else that Sam and Miguel's kiss at the party was mutual. Once he finds out Sam still has feelings for Miguel, he will be furious and upset with her. Robby will probably accuse Sam of using him to make Miguel and Tory jealous, although that's not true. Sam had feelings for Robby but they were not as intense as they were for Miguel. There will be a rift between Sam and Robby in Season 3 but they will eventually resolve things as friends. Miguel is Sam's true love and Robby was more of a rebound.
Naw. Miguel was a meek and good kid and cobra Kai turned him into an Aggro billy. Same thing with Hawk who turned on his own best friend and bullied him for simply being himself. His students fought dirty in the tournament
@@youtubecommenter37 that was s1. In s2 Johnny tries to reshape them and teach them the difference between no mercy and no honor. That's why Miguel tried ending the fight with Robby, and hawk didn't attack Demetri at first during the offensive stand-up BS Demetri pulled.
J-ice yeah hawk is a bad example because he’s constantly going against Johnny’s cobra kai, he chose Kreese. But that is the whole point of the season, how Johnny regrets turning miguel into a bully and wants to fix cobra kai before it’s too late
Cobra Kai = Offence Myagi-do = Defence Both combined = Balance Hoping to see Johnny and Daniel team up after what Kreese had done at the end. Offence plus defence would make an unstoppable martial arts style.
If one them plays the bigger man and pulled his head out his own ass then it will definitely happen. I bet 50 bucks that Daniel will make peace with the bastard one last time.
I was looking forward to their Rocky III Rocky Apollo fight they were going to have after hitting the bar. I hope they get back to that place again some day.
I would love this, and then have Aisha & Miguel reject Kreese, and Daniel kick out Robby. Aisha, Miguel & Robby join Iron Eagle and you have the whole in house rivalry between Miguel & Robby and Johnny having the inner conflict of choosing between his son and his protege. Aisha vs. Tory vs. Samantha at the all valley fighting for 3 different Dojos would be hype. Then have Kyler join Cobra Kai and Hawk becomes apart of that "cool kid bully" friend group at school. Miguel spends the year helping Iron Eagle train since he is out of action, and him and Robby still have beef through all of it, but then Miguel finds himself secretly rooting for Robby at the All Valley and there are seeds of them mending their relationship. All that's missing is a top male fighter at Miyagi-Do. Theoretically it's Demetri but I think they should bring in somebody new to take that role and stretch out Demetri's learning curve a little longer. Am I getting too ahead of myself? lol
Actually when it comes who teaches better it’s Lawrence cobra kai > larusso miyagi do > krees cobra kai > miyagi’s miyagi do I’m Saying that miyagi’s miyagi do is worse at teaching (harder to learn) because Look at Daniel when he was young, the only thing he knew was defense (which it wasnt Even that great) the only reason he beat chozen and won the tournament was because of the plot, and Now Look at robby His ofense is good and gis defense is pretty good, no hate
@@xxalindasavagexxthefortnit8898 No True because Miyagi is only 1v1 student teaching and is more of a LIFESTYLE teaching not just martial arts. Miyagi teaches no-combat philosophy.
Cobra Kai is easier to master, with much quicker results against most opponents. Get in first and get out first, and intact; not giving an aggressor any chance whatsoever to harm you. Miyagi-Do is much harder to master, and much riskier to use for most, but once mastered it is unbeatable. A true Miyagi-Do master can read, and has multiple, and instantly effective counters against any attack. If you attack a Miyagi-Do master, no matter how good you are at any other style, you have already lost. The only way to win against a Miyagi-Do master is to not physically attack them, hence both sides win. Because the true aim of a Miyagi-Do master is to find a peaceful solution to every problem, by creating the conditions neccessary to ensure this. And what better way to achieve such a philosophy than to produce a martial art that makes an aggressors physical attack instantly work against them. Of course this is a highly idealized philosophy, and becomes obsolete once guns come into the picture.
By that logic one can argue that a true Cobra Kai Master will never allow defender to counter and strikes only when he can guarantee victory or sufficent advantage from the first strike.
@@aigryz I don't believe we've seen that level of Cobra Kai master yet. In fact, we've only seen one true Miyagi-Do master so far: Mr Miyagi himself. The ultimate Cobra Kai master would have to be lightning fast, and incredibly deceptive in attack, and defense. An impossible to read/anticipate fighter. He'd have to be like a Karate version of Bruce Lee, Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson combined.
WallKenshiro cobra Kai takes the military KISS “keep it simple stupid” take down an enemy fast and without mercy think of it as karate with no spirituality once so ever makes sense cause cobra kais founder was a soldier in the Vietnam war
@@youtubecommenter37 Depends on the rules of the fight. If they're fighting on MMA rules the MMA student wins, if it's karate ruels (three points and no grappling) the karate guy wins because of experience. On the street? My 75 year old grandma with a shotgun would beat both at the same time.
@@youtubecommenter37 The show and movies are a Karate fantasy. Sure in reality Karate isn't some godsend martial art that will let you beat all your opponents, but it is the Karate Kid/Cobra Kai universe. It's not real.
Daniel is kind of a jerk now. Johnny's just trying to run his business and do his own thing. Daniel is the one going after him. Because of stuff that happened 30 years ago like dude, seriously you won the tournament Johnny even presented you with the trophy as a sign of good sportsmanship you got the girl you got to travel to Japan you got married had a family, and run a successful business. Disagree with me if you want but Daniel is still living in the past and he needs to move on.
Exactly. Since the first kk you could see Daniel’s ego grow bigger when he started karate. After everything was peaceful, he started another conflict with Johnny in the party which led to his ass being kicked.
Yeah both daniel and johnny are stuck in the past. Johnny not so much in season 2 but season 1 he was very stuck in the past possibly worse than daniel.
He’s not going for them because of Johnny, He’s afraid of people turning into bullies, and he doesn’t agree with strike first, no mercy, strike hard, Miyagi Do is the opposite of cobra kai, And u see Miyagi doing the opposite of what Cobra kai does and he always wins his fights, Point is, it’s not Johnny he’s going for, It’s what cobra kai did to him, did to the students(made them merciless jerks), and Doesn’t want anyone to experience the same thing
When I said It’s opposite it’s because 1.He doesn’t strike first 2.He doesn’t strike hard(doesn’t look hard but he usually wins fights with like 3-4 hits thrown so it’s probably hard) 3.He shows mercy
@@shadowfighter3100 But Daniel didn’t have to attack them afterwards. The waters were calm and nothing was happening. He could have still learned karate but he decided to start another conflict for zero to no reason at all.
I politely disagree. Different students need different teachers. Demetri and Chris are examples that certain styles aren't always for everyone. It's easy to dismiss a whiner like Demetri, but the best teachers will try to get on their student's level. The way I see it: Johnny is the best sensei for students _looking_ for the strength and power to fight back, but Daniel is better at teaching students that are lost and want to find direction and guidance.
Well considering Carmen said Miguel was a sweet boy before Johnny influenced him i would have to disagree with you. Now try to imagine if Johnny got a student who was a drop out that hangs out with criminals who learned martial arts for the wrong reason i highly doubt Johnny would have been able to stop him from helping criminals, much less get him to think about his future
@TheCeilingFanCollectorHD Most people don't realize their mistakes that way. Johnny had to see the pitfalls of the philosophy in action before he could know he needed to make changes. Even then, Kreese was able to get in the kids' heads because Johnny is still uncertain about what he's trying to teach. But remember that Johnny has been teaching karate for less than a year. Everyone makes mistakes while trying to learn a new job.
@Leon Russell which actually upsets me! Miyagi students won all of the brawl scenes (two big ones are the Mall and School). I get it Sam is an experienced practitioner while Robby is a prodigy, but practically getting ganged up with other martial artists 2 vs 5 (?) even with less skills does not make the number advantage any less dangerous. ALSO Dimitri vs Hawk?! wtf cant believe a whiny germaphobe with weeks worth of experience won against a bully with months of practical experience.
This was a great breakdown and analysis. As it stands currently, both Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai styles are imperfect because people are imperfect. I see it as they are the yin and yang to each other. Each style is needed to refine the other. Kreese's return offset the balance. The universe corrected the balance by taking Miguel off the board. I think Miyagi-Do needs Johnny and Johnny needs Miyagi-Do. To balance out the universe, the scales must be adjusted. Kreese's influence is stronger than Daniel's. However, you relocate Johnny to the side of Miyagi-Do and they should have enough to balance out the scales. Season 3 seems as if it is going to reintroduce us to their ex girlfriend. I am fairly certain she is going o be some sort of doctor that can help Miguel. The new Miyagi-Do will help heal Miguel's physical, emotional, mental and spiritual forms as he recovers.
Johnny and Daniel to need to create a hybrid dojo of cobra Kai and Miyagi do how to fight offensively but still show mercy and fight with balance and peaceful intent I hope that happens in season 3
Revenge of the nerd. Not only is your piece extremely well written, your interpretation and understanding of the opposing philosophies is very profound. Outstanding. 👋👋👋👍🙏
I agree! I think by Miyagi-do helping Miguel recover physically and mentally, both Johnny and Daniel will realize that merging both dojos is the best thing to do. Perfect balance.
Reptile 25991 how old are you? 12? The karate kid franchise brand has always been family friendly and the show is no different. With school shootings being a serious reality, cobra Kai would get cancelled immediately if they went this direction, not to mention it would drive away the core fanbase
I love The Karate Kid movie, and all time classic, one of my top 3 favorite movies. In the movie I pick Miyagi-Do. In the tv series (which is a damn good tv series) I pick Kobra Kai.
I disagree with Miyagi Do style is superior to CK style. They both have ups and downs. Depending on the situation individuals will experience and how they should handle it will be different. And no ideology is superior to other completely. It's also important to point out that Fighting styles and techniques may have different effectivenes and functionality depending on how they suit to the person using them. How their physical capabilities and status allows them to use it at fullest. In the Karate Kid II when Kreese is trying to choke Johnny, actually Miyagi makes the first move against Kreese. Not specifically "striking",but he is the one making the first move. So even Miyagi is aware of how this subject is pretty flexible. That you need to adapt to the situation. Miguel showing mercy to Robby is the best example. At the end,the choices and morals of the actions of one will cause different results depending on the opponent's actions. All that said,we also didn't see the prime battle of the 2 Dojos. Kreese is nowhere near close to Miyagi's level and experience. Johnny didn't have enough motivation and instict to win against Daniel. And although Robby is a talented fighter and willing to learn the principles of Miyagi Do,he doesn't have the willpower and experience that Miguel has. Overall very good video and a nice subject to discuss and talk about 👍
Problem with Daniel is that he didn't teach Robbie when to stop fighting. Robbie might have stopped fighting when Miguel showed him mercy if Daniel taught him that. Also Daniel doesn't have something that his teacher did have which is humility. Daniel is not being humble with his students. You see that there are times when he acts too cocky.
@@dave4657 It's Johnnys favorite movie. Plus think about it as an Easter egg, the eagle eats the snake. Iron is strong and dominate like cobra kai while the eagle is graceful like miyagi do which can soar above both dojos philosophys by mixing them together.
This was very well done, however i feel when Robby decided to continue the fight against Miguel it was more the fault of Johnny not teaching his son better by being absent for most of his life than it was on Daniel for not training him correctly. Daniel can't fix the darkness that stems from the larger part of sixteen years of daddy issues, especially in the span of a few months. Heck i doubt even Mr.Miyagi could have done that. Robby went from a drop out who was involved with criminals to kid who wanted to do better, that in itself is kind of a miracle Remember Karate Kid 3 even a good kid with proper guidance can make the wrong choice and Daniel wasn't nearly as messed up as Robby i think things would have been a lot worse if Daniel trained a kid like Miguel and Johnny trained a criminal drop out.
@@K1ng1995 Of course he wanted to be the victor, especially because he felt Miguel stole his dad, he felt justified in the karma turn about from when Miguel pulled his injured arm during the tournament when Robby offered to help him up, and kissing his girlfriend when she was drunk. Now if you mean end it by knocking Miguel over the balcony i don't think Robby did that on purpose
FullMetalJedi what I mean was he didn’t want Miguel to show honour because Robby didn’t want to be in the wrong he knew that if Miguel showed honour and stopped fighting then he won and if Robby continues trying to fight then he looks like the asshole
@@K1ng1995 You have to remember Robby wasn't clear headed at that point. So it went way beyond being about just winning. When Miguel said "Like that move, i learned it from you dad" it fed the darker impulses in Robby. When you use psychological warfare like that it shouldn't be a surprise when the target to becomes mentally unstable
I like how in season 1 when Johnny and Daniel are test driving the car. They go to Daniels house and you can hear Johnny make a reference to the rocky Apollo private fight. Like he wanted to do a “friendly” match to see who would win. I hope we get to see that one day. But yeah that would be cool to see Daniel cornered by three and Johnny shows up to back him.
Bro Cobra kai annd Miyagi do need each other, Cobra kai’s problem is they’re too violent which is why some people left it needs to soften a bit like MIYAGI DO Miyagi do’s problem is it’s too peaceful which is why not much people understand it and want to join, the people only understand violence like COBRA KAI
They need to meet in the middle, and I believe it will come to that eventually as the show progresses. Johnny and Daniel showed signs of getting along, until something arose stopping it, then kreese. Johnny seen all he needed of kreese to never return to him, or I believe so. Never know show twists and turns. Johnny needs Robby as much as Robby needs him. He seen past his moms lies, then abandonment. When she said he wanted him to come live with him, he was going to see if it was workable, sadly he seen johnny and miguel and got jealous and left. He loves Robby or wouldn't try to protect him, even say he was sorry. He just was ruined by kreese who was a dad to him, abused by his step dad,mom died and natural father unsaid. He gotnwith that nasty woman, got her pregnant, he was just too deep in his issues to be the father he wanted to be. He is ready now. It will help him thru his demons of kreese, and sid being the father he wanted instead of like them. He learned so much so far. I think having robby live with him will also make him stop drinking to solve his problems also. I hope he and Carmen get back together he seemed to really like her, and she liked him. He needs a good woman not trash to help him in dark times. Not to be used, hurt or abused anymore. I imo think once miguel is back where he can speak and stuff,he will get his mom back with him. In the storage room when she was dating the Aussie still, miguel had great concern if she was happy, so no doubt he seen her happy with Johnny while they were dating. Grandma has always been for johnny so she will help. And miguel never had a male influence he needs at his age.. so imagine it may, just may end up johnny,Carmen, Robby and miguel living together that will make for interest, with the two dojos sadly now only 1 as kreese took ck. One thing most are overlooking beyond kreese being a compulsive liar and manipulator ( like waiting til johhny got ck back in tournaments before he resurfaced so no one knew he was around or even alive) Kreese is living in some sort of halfway house or something 🤔 has mental problems,.kids caught him lying about where he was enlisted. How does one pay all the back bills, and have credit and money needed to buy a dojo ? If henis on va pay or soc security that's not enough to buy a pair of shoes. Why he is living where he can afford the rent not a house or an apartment. So one person comes to mind paying the bills....but at what cost, and to whom now ? I am.still certain tory is silvers daughter born outside of marriage like.robby has moms name at birth, so we won't know til they want us to. Could be nutcase fighter in kk 3 but he didn't have money like silver. Tory said mom worked fed her and her brother, never mentioned a dad or if knew who he is. She may or may not know. And Silver is jjst the type of scum to deny paternity, buy way out of tests and not pay child support. Hurry season 3 we will die of curiosity waiting lol. And guessed aliens 👽 next haha. They run their series around the national channels as they are then in reruns so not compete against them for air time. People turn to straming when they go on hiatus..they air channels will always draw more as they are free and many cannot afford,or are happy with just a few channels, they pull ratings away from streaming..so that being basic fact they start new shows in late sept. Ratings sweeps and end in May for rating sweeps so ya all nearly summer 2021 probably before we have answers uhh. Need a new binge show, nothing toos.cobra kai tho lol I can live for stablers return to svu til then to satisfy me just enuf roflmoa

I think you missed a yin yang interpretation. I don't believe it is a matter of one philosophy being better or worse than the other. I see them more like Yin and Yang. And like yin and yang energies it isn't a question of which is better so much as which does the situation call for. . Being aggressive and forceful is often times necessary in life and not just in a physical fight. Cobra Kai is not wrong to teach kids to be tough and impose their will upon their circumstances as much as possible ( and within reason). But at other times the best course of action would be a more passive approach seeking peaceful resolution that allows all parties to walk away content if possible. . So yeah, I have to object to the premise of your question - at least regarding the underlying philosophies. They are two sides of the same coin. But if you just want to talk about the dojos themselves then I'd agree Miyagi do is better...but not because the philosophy there is better.
> Miyagi Do When Miyagi is in charge. > Cobra Kai When Johnny is in charge > Miyagi Do When Daniel is in Charge > > > > Cobra Kai When Kreese is in charge
Basically it’s the Sword-cobra Kai Shield-miyagi do The shield is good for counter attacks once the opponent is distracted But the sword is best when the first strike is landed But I think they will fuse the two arts In a philosophy
The greatest victory is to turn an adversary into an ally. I think the finale of the series will be the creation of the "Kobra Miyagi Do" dojo where all the best aspects of both martial arts will be taught.
Would be pretty cool if Johnny went to Daniel, told him about Kreese and asked to learn Meogi-do to get his dojo back. It would certainly be a lesson of balance, I think if a team up happened Mr.Meogi would be happy. As a side to that I think he would have been really upset to see the school fight.
Whenever I think martial arts in general I think back to what Bruce Lee said One style is not better than the other It's all just punching and kicking in different ways and to keep evolving of the art form you need to mix them together to not stagnate.
Miguel's biggest mistake was treating Robby the way he did, he antagonizes him through the both seasons then all of a sudden gets a change of heart at the end, it was bound to happen with Robby lashing out
nah I’m with Miguel on this one. He may have gotten drunk and fucked up on the beach, and honestly it was understandable. Robby was definitely moving in on Sam. but besides that, he didn’t really do shit to Robby. Unless I’m forgetting something, I don’t know. He even returned the medal, which Robby then hid. In the end, he was the one that showed mercy. Robby was in the wrong imo
Bruton Gaster To be fair looking in Robby’s perspective he was kind of jealous on Miguel for spending more time with his dad (just when he decided to let go of his anger and visit him the day Johnny gave his old gi to Miguel), was just being friendly with Sam after realising he had a boyfriend and actually gave her a useful advise (cause she is the daughter of his sensei) and in the tournament when offered his hand to Miguel he injured him in a low move. Basically Miguel’s mistakes in S1 ending made Robby believed Miguel was just an aggressive thug and when the moment came he made the same thing to Miguel (showing Mercy or Respect) only this time Robby’s mistake resulted in tragedy...
@@creedbratton7237 @Bruton Gaster Miguel completely lost his way through the teaching methods of Cobra Kai it turned him into an angry and very arrogant individual, Robby obviously liked Sam but he never crossed any line plus he was respective at first she had a boyfriend until the beach incident, Miguel jumped to conclusions and pushed Robby and resulted in hurting Sam in the process. In the karate tournament Migel acted dishonourable in the fight targeting Robby's dislocated shoulder multiple times including pulling his arm out of its socket after Robby had downed him. Robby isn't all good like I'm not saying he is, he's the son of Johnny aha but he's learnt the ways of Miyagi-Do and found balance, the show blurs the lines of right and wrong perfectly and it shows how these 2 boys have been impacted by Johnny and Daniels rivalry. Robby acts the way he does over the medal but hey can you blame him? I know season 2 tries it's best to paint Miguel in a new light and it does work but these 2 guys are already at odds and with Robby trying to break up the fight in the school Miguel is the one who engages and attacks first, then he proceeds to mock Robby about Sam all this build up caused Robby to get even with Miguel which is understandable given the circumstances. All I'm saying is that Miguel's actions wether you like it or not, even if they are influenced by the Cobra Kai methods are still down to him. Think about it, a guy saying your girlfriend loves him instead of you, after cheating you in a tournament, making passes at your girlfriend, plus being involved with your father in a stronger bond and on top of that starting a fight with you and telling you your girlfriend loves you then pinning you down about to re-injure your shoulder, then suddenly decides to ease off on you, how insulting is that?!?! Of course Robby is going to lash out aha
Damn straight all the way. He was acting the same way as his teacher did in the movies. Jealousy and no mercy crap is not a good combo it can screw any good relationship with anyone outside of the cobra Kai unless of course is someone from cobra Kai then it would be fine.
Oh wow if your prediction comes true I can totally see Johnny as the head sensei teaching classes while Daniel is the "grandmaster" running the business.
I think the whole show has a strong message of yin and yang. Daniel and johnny learned different, opposite karate philosophies, but in the end they will thrive off of each others' ideas (thats my theory, that they will learn from each others mistakes to help shape each others' futures) Yin and yang also contain a piece of the other. Daniel can have a ruthless side, while johnny can be capable of doing good.
Even with Kreese's No Mercy philosophy, he still has much more experience being a sensei than Daniel and Johnny put together as well as being able to control his students. Mr Miyagi no doubt had regrets about his past and that's why he taught Daniel the way he did, and I'm fairly certain Chozen will reveal a lot about Mr Miyagi's past as well as teach Daniel a more offensive form of Miyagi-Do that Sato taught him. To find balance, Daniel needs to face his inner demons and practice greater self-control.
As a lifelong martial artist and huge fan of both the classic movies and this series, I have to say, this is an absolutely amazing video, fantastic breakdown and analysis, and great pacing (since I'm a film guy and video editor as well haha.) Very well done.
@@steelerfreak1977 You understand Kreese himself realizes he's sick in the head right? He stated that to Johnny, what war did to him is irreparable. He's training them to become cold-blooded killers ready to go to a war but the thing is they aren't soldiers, they're in a civilized world and in a civilized world you get into a lot of trouble if you go with such attitude, Kreese is merely a veteran who couldn't let go off the horrors of war, you could say he's a victim, but at the same time that turned him into a horrible human being.
Blue113 nothing you said refutes my point and I agree with your post. Cobra Kai is Kreese’s vision. It’s tenets are Kreese’s. Johnny changed it into something that ISN’T Cobra Kai.
@@steelerfreak1977 Yeah, now I get your point sorry. Johnny wanted to change cobra kai, make it something that wasn't all peace and flowers like Miyagi-do but he also realized that being completely merciless wasn't the way either. He's in between with being brutal is ok but also knowing your limits. Unfortunately after how everything went down in season 2 finale I think Cobra Kai is cursed forever and back to its original roots, a dark path for those who can't see the difference between mercy and honor.
5:40 their styles are different because Miyagi came back from a won war while Kreese came back from a lost war. That's why kreese incorporated his way of fighting because he does not want to lose ever again and Mr.miyagi is the way he is because he came back with a victory in the war FYI this is my opinion so plz don't hate me for it
A victory so painful that he lost everything that he cared about. Their styles also reflect a different approach to the goal of fighting. For Kreese, winning the fight is the goal. For Miyagi, ending the fight (and going home) is the goal.
Your analysis was impeccable! Excellent job! After watching this, I'm considering uploading an analysis on different themes & foreshadowing of Season 2. It's amazing how much of the mythology is so well understood & respected by the writers of Cobra Kai.
I think cobra kai is like mma which focuses on making you stronger and makes you a better fighter but miyagi do is like any traditional martial arts that teaches you fighting and controlling your mindset, second one is difficult which disciples don't always learn so at the end of the day I think mr miyagi's statement seems very good to listen that there is no bad student but bad teacher , maybe it was correct for the karate kid films but in cobra kai we can say that robbie was the one who didn't learn miyagi do's principles properly that is self defense only and miguel even on getting on the wrong feat first still understood what his true sensei taught him and followed it but robbie didn't listen to what larusso taught so at the end of the day it's about both the student and the teacher , that is why I am on Miguel's side , even on getting wrong training in the beginning he eventually became the right guy following his teacher's method which was not the case with robbie even though it backfired on miguel but still psychologically miguel was the bigger person at the end of the series even when robbie was taught the right art from the beginning and miguel was not
The thumbnail was very interesting to me seeing how the match ups looked. Given what happened at the end of S3 it's interesting to note how neither Kreese nor Robby are wearing headbands almost foreshadowing their connection.
both, see, miyagi's way is fine and good, and one should always try to avoid a conflict if possible and carry one's self with a peaceful, clear mind, but when peace fails, and you can't avoid the fight, that's when the cobra kai, strike first, strike hard mentality matters, in kyokushin, they teach you to be rough, tough, and fierce in combat and to stop a conflict almost immediately, but they also teach you to try and end a conflict without a fight if possible, my old sensei once said "miyagi's way is all well and good in day to day basis when dealing with every day stress and people, but when peace fails, the cobra kai mentality is the mind of a fighter in combat" so, both are valid mentalities, but their both meant to be used in different scenarios, any good martial arts school will teach peace of mind, kindness, honor, but will also teach heavily the art of fighting, sparring, and how to be fierce and powerful in a fight
Your analysis is pretty good. I still think the underlying idea in the script is to present a paradox and a false polemic. That there's a struggle to find the roots and make choices for all the agents in the show. This is what keeps things great, the unresolved paradox that leaves the audience to struggle with resolution without end.
@@derek96720 Yeah there's bit of that about. The style I'm doing in Osaka, Itosu-Ryu (falls under the Shtio Rya family), Fits the Bags, conditioning, kumite and kata into 2 or 3 hour training sessions.
I never noticed this beautiful dichotomy between Miyagi and Kreese. Both coming from war, and yet having complete opposite beliefs that were moulded by it. *That* is great writing.
In the fight at the end of season 2, Johnny's students all take mercy on defeated opponents (other than Tory), while the miyagi-do practitioners take it to extremes that hurt, humiliate and cripple the opposition. Perhaps the best reaction was Dmetri trying to get a teacher to stop the fight.
I thought it was over the top at first but seeing what is happening in schools today, I thought it was brilliant after the third time I watched it. I just hope they handle the aftermath in a realistic manner. I mean, no one was arrested and Tory was just chilling at the dojo at the end. And not one adult was looking for Robby? That was sad.
Miguel was literally the only student in Cobra Kai who showed mercy. Sam and Demitri were the only students from either dojo that conducted themselves with grace throughout their encounters. Both Sam and Demitri tried to avoid fighting. They defended themselves only when there was no other option, and neutralized their opponents. Chris was much the same, aside from using the book at the end. Robbie tried to stop the fight from escalating but Miguel's misunderstanding of the situation led him to ignite a larger fight when he tackled Robbie. When Miguel realized his faults, and offered a truce, Robbie attacked.
@@4L3XW4ND3R You're forgetting about Aisha from Cobra Kai who was also trying to stop the fight and not get involved until the one little punk from Miyagi Do shoved her into a locker at which point she needed to defend herself.
Alexander Holloman If Sam had really wanted to avoid a fight, then she would not have confronted Tory in the hallway after being called out. Of course, not cheating on Robby by kissing another girl’s boyfriend would’ve helped enormously too.
Great analysis of the to different teaching styles. In my opinion I feel that Cobra Kia under Johnny would be the better teaching class. The reason why I say this is because, Johnny know what is like to loose everything he had going for him and by him loosing it had humbled him, so he change in a good way, but at the same time still stayed strong in his fighting skills and this made him more balance as a person. While on the other hand, Daniel had gotten successful in life, but from my perspective had had gotten a little big headed and this affected his decision in life such as his relationship with his wife and being too merciful with his students in their training. From looking at the past video of the way Miyagi had train him, Miiyagi was a little more tougher with Daniel and some where along the way I feel that Daniel had lost some of those training skills. Johnny knew how to keep his keep his love for teaching karate from affecting his decisions in life and whereas Daniel had let in take over his life.
Yin and Yang, Miyago Do and Cobra Kai, defense and offense (with a bit of offense within the defense and a bit of defense within the offense). A balance of both is best, IMO.
Thank you. Somebody finally said what I've always said about these two styles of karate. It's Miyagi-do that teaches the superior form of martial arts (at least in The Karate Kid and Cobra Kai) because it aims to strike proper balance and it is in that form that Miyagi-do wins.
I like how the the thumbnail just shows everyone looking at each other, and then Mr. Miyagi is just distracted looking at the camera taking the pic for the thumbnail
I think that, just like Robby said, both Daniel AND Johnny both could learn from each other & emerge as better men and teachers. Now if only Amanda would lighten up on Daniel a little!
Can’t really fault Amanda for how she feels. This woman has been doing all the work running a multimillion dollar company and has to deal with difficult business situations like losing valuable employees while Daniel was more focused on karate. The whole Cobra Kai vs Miyagi Do Rivalry put a strain on their relationship.
@@Vietmac1993 i think Amanda needs to learn to give Daniel some space, they already work together. Given all Daniel has done he deserves a hobby that is separate from her and should be allowed to indulge in some mid life crisis time, she couldn't even ease up over the course of a single summer with that in mind. She said it wasn't about the work so it seems she is just being clingy
Daniel already has a great life. He is a millionaire with a beautiful wife and kids. He does not need to be teaching karate. For him to try to foil Johnny’s plans to rebuilding his life was just flat out wrong. It’s partially his fault that Miguel is in the hospital now. There is a lot of blame to go around. For all the things that have happened. Yes Daniel has done some good like helping Robby and a few other kids but he done some slimy things like screwing with Johnny’s livelihood and trying to be a political rat to keep Cobra Kai from being banned.
@@Vietmac1993 Miguel being in the hospital is on Johnny for not teaching his son any better and telling Miguel he wasn't there for Robby. When Miguel said "you like that move, i learned it from your dad" it fed the darker impulses in Robby stemming from 16 years worth of abandonment issues and falling into the wrong crowd because Johnny wasn't there. Miguel and Sam are also the cause of the riot because they cheated on their partners. Also considering the history of illegal contact in the first and third Karate Kid movies Cobra Kai should be banned, heck this is further reinforced seeing how Eli kicked Robby when his back was turned then Miguel pulled on that same injured arm when Robby offered to help him up. Daniel isn't psychic but he does remember the past and reacts accordingly because if history repeats then someone needs to protect kids.
@TheCeilingFanCollectorHD Sam and Miguel cheating on their partners wasn't because of Miyagi Do, that would have happened regardless. Most of the conflict came from Kreese but even before then Cobras behaved badly at the tournament, Aisha acted very poorly telling the guy who beat her to "eat shit asshole", Eli kicking someone who had their back turned, and even Miguel pulling on the injured arm of someone offering to help him up.
styles can not be skilled, people can be. So the skill level of either student can vary greatly the philosophy has nothing to do with it. But in a real lfie sence Cobra kai has a huge advantage in real life or death scenarios. but only there.
J͙A͙M͙E͙S͙'X͙M͙ 卐卐 yeah I know, he just wasn’t taught right, I do prefer Miguel over Robby as well but I’m talking about the actual style not the individual students, just all of them in general.
They do both have there own benefit, Miyagi-do is very reactive. Watching and waiting to see what your opponent does first. Cobra Kai however makes you react to them opting to “strike first”. As a fighter myself (not karate) I align more with Cobra Kai, while it’s important to always be vigilant, one clean hit can determine a fight and if that hit is the first then your problem is resolved much quicker.
Nam was a lot different my man, ww2 the enemy was marked you knew who you were fighting, in nam those bastards where in civilian clothes, you didn’t know who to trust
No. Miyagi-do with a Kata foundation, can stand on it's own. It's already been shown that Miyagi style karate was corrupted by Sato and Chozin, and proved fallible against Daniel's training. Kreese failed against Miyagi. Even "bad boy" Mike Barnes fell to Miyagi-do. Karate based in anger and revenge will always fail.
Very interesting video. In my own opinion, BOTH Karate styles are lacking somewhat. TBH Karate is about discipline and self control and learning both to not only apply those principles but to know when and to what extent to apply them. You touched on this in your video. In my own opinion all 3 sensais have failed in their own attempts to effectively teach the martial art of Karate. With Kreese, he is teaching the style that he learned but Kreese is not totally right in the head and sort of is not fit to teach anyone (especially to teach anyone discipline). Kreese is/was a service man from a war he felt like he lost and I think he carries that loss with him to this day so he teaches his students to win at all costs. In Kreese's mind there is no honor in war and every fight is a war to him, but all of life is not a war in the way that Kreese wants to believe. Johnny was Kreese's bet student and I feel is the best Sensai of the 3. Johnny started out teaching all of the lessons he learned from Kreese in basically the same fashion he learned them, but Johnny come to learn that there is a difference between mercy and honor. Johnny tried to flip his own script in a manner of speaking with his students and it ended up backfiring at the moment when Miguel could have used this "No Mercy" tactic the most.. While Johnny is in my opinion the best teacher of the 3,I still do not feel he is a suitable Karate sensai partially because of what he learned from Kreese and partially because he is unsure himself of how to effectively teach his students how and when to apply the necessacary discipline needed in Karate. Daniel on the other hand learned from Myagi who was the best teacher/mentor but I do not feel Daniel learned enough to be an effective teacher/mentor himself. Daniel failed in teaching his students discipline as evidenced by Robby kicking Miguel over the railing but Robby showed no signs of discipline way before that. So it is my belief that each of the sensais and their own individual karate styles lack in some way.
Jonny did notice what Miguel and Hawk were doign and tried to get them to stop. and his first move afterwards was to correct the flaw. He is the best because out of the three he is trying to improve his style the other two are not.
Miyagi Do closely resembles what I have practiced for close to 30 years......Shotokan Karate-do. Shotokan originated in Okinawa by Gichin Funakoshi. His five 'rules' are. - Seek perfection of character. - Be faithful - Endeavor - Respect others - Refrain from violent behavior.
Simple. Miyagi Do is great for tournaments and self defense. Cobra Kai is for war and offense. Just as Cobra Kai in universe was created during war by war veterans for soldiers. in a no rule open combat i can see Cobra Kai jhaving the advantage since "no mercy" and "strike hard" are what saces your life in a real life or death scenario. Ultimately its down to the skill and fitness of the user ofc.
I feel like the origin of the two styles helps showcase when they are needed. Miyagi-Do was created strictly to defend oneself from attackers while Cobra Kai was developed during the Vietnam War and was specifically designed to deal with enemies in a life or death situation. As such both styles have merit.
Pretty good analysis; I did one as well, a while back, on my site. TLDR, the situation impacts which style is better. Cobra Kai is better for a war situation, but the Miyagi-do mindset is likely better for other scenarios. Personally I’d choose Cobra Kai (more Johnny’s than Kreese’s) for self defense purposes. But I’m biased, as I’ve trained in Krav Maga, which is far more similar (but not identical) to Cobra Kai.
Team Miyagi do Even though currently its shut down daniel really helped robby and demitri He helped robby get out of a life of crime and helped demitri gain confidence I know what happened to miguel was bad but miguel still struck robby first and also tripped him when robby tried to stop the fight again. And robby clearly didn’t mean for miguel to get hurt as badly as he did(you can tell by how shocked he looked).
I think my handle icon says it all. #teammiyagido And say what you will about Daniel's training, Miyagi-do saved those kids--especially Demetri and Sam--from being critically injured and/or killed.
@@katemaloney4296 i don't believe Johnny thinks Robby ruined his life, but i do think he should have manned up to be his father Miguel had a clean record and Carmen said before Johnny he was a sweet boy so Johnny didn't have to work as hard to uncorrupt him Also it was Johnny who started to corrupt the kid in the first place even before Kreese came back
That’s not true. Just look at Miyagi when he fought Johnny and his crew, Kreese and Silver. Those dudes had no honour yet still backed off when Miyagi beat them down.
Bingo. Note as soon as Joony heard of the attack on the Myiagi Do dojo he went hard on his students to learn who did it. and stressed that was not accepted in his Cobra Kai
A fair analysis of the Miguel and Robby characters would be great. Robby is one of the most misunderstood characters ever. Even in the school fight scene if you really pay attention Miguel is no angel and is the one who instigated the fight and brought the anger out of Robby with his comments about both of their relationships with Johnny & Sam.
I can see a synthesis between Cobra Kai and Miyagi Do that becomes Cobra Do Karate. It will be symbolized by a cobra wrapped around a banzai tree and will be taught by senseis Lawrence and Larusso.
Johnny Lawrence was improving Cobra Kai, just before things went south with Robbie kicking Miguel off the balcony. Johnny even said, I want Cobra Kai to be better to Daniel. He was teaching his students that mercy should be shown in certain situations, but he forgot to mention to his students, that you should never let your guard down, even when showing that mercy. I actually think Cobra Kai, under sensei Johnny Lawrence, was on the path to being the best dojo in the valley, if not the world.

Okok
Daniel LaRusso isn’t all good and Johnny Lawrence isn’t all bad.
Perfect
More like Johnny is the hero of cobra Kai and Daniel is the antagonist
Pokémon champion Carson that is also true but the antagonist of a show isn’t a necessarily “evil” or a “villain” or a “bad person”
Yes,they are complex
Both are flawed, but then again who is perfect?
Robby actually went against the Miyagi Do philosophy when he attacked Miguel after Miguel let him go.
@@drestathagangsta8880
Daniel learned this from Cobra Kai first
@@NB-hb3uj Yes, but he looked up to his sensei and mentor Miyagi and took everything he said as law over anything else.

I also believe in reality we all have sin again no body is perfect
If Mr Miyagi was still alive, this show would have ended after the first episode of season 1. Daniel would have complained to Mr Miyagi about seeing cobra Kai opening back up and Mr Miyagi would have told him to chill out
“Daniel-San. You still in high school?”
Daniel: no...but--
“-you still worry about high school boy beating you up?”
Daniel: no but-
“Go home. Enjoy big house and nice family. Have sex with beautiful wife.”
Miyagi would have told Daniel he was being stupid and to worry about his own life. People forget that Miyagi didn’t even want to teach Daniel karate at first. In karate kid 3, he refused to train Daniel further for the tournament. Miyagi knows that karate-even his karate-can be misused so he is not eager at all to teach it to people
Daniel jumps at any chance to teach someone karate-and he never stops to ask himself “wait, should I teach this kid karate?”
Miyagi would have viewed the dojo rivalry as silly and he would have told Daniel he was being silly
Why would miyagi tell Daniel to go have sex with his wife lmao 😂😂😂😂

No one likes you lol how would you know it’s good? Hahaha
Cobra Kai: you learn how to fight. Miyagi-Do: you learn WHEN to fight.
Wow that summed it up
Yea true af

Miguel and Robby are repeating this over Sam yet when She gets to College She would dump both of them for a Frat Boy. i actaully hope one day the two martial arts can be blended together as one. yin and yang
Milla Ray
True about Robby as an insecure person.

Johnny is gonna start iron eagle karate. Will be mixed philosophy.
i can see the motto now: Join iron eagle karate, be a badass
this is it
Perhaps a mixed philosophy is the only sensible and practical one. Any other philosophy is either too lenient or too extreme.
Am I getting too ahead of myself? lol
Yes
As it stands right now:
Miyagi-Miyagi Do > Lawrence Cobra Kai > Larusso Miyagi Do > Kreese Cobra Kai
Kyle Stark I agree
Actually when it comes who teaches better it’s
Lawrence cobra kai > larusso miyagi do > krees cobra kai > miyagi’s miyagi do
I’m Saying that miyagi’s miyagi do is worse at teaching (harder to learn) because Look at Daniel when he was young, the only thing he knew was defense (which it wasnt Even that great) the only reason he beat chozen and won the tournament was because of the plot, and Now Look at robby His ofense is good and gis defense is pretty good, no hate
Kyle Stark larusso karate IS miyagi do, AND his team won so Daniel > Johnny
Phantom :D that fight was a stalemate man easily
He’s not going for them because of Johnny, He’s afraid of people turning into bullies, and he doesn’t agree with strike first, no mercy, strike hard,
Miyagi Do is the opposite of cobra kai, And u see Miyagi doing the opposite of what Cobra kai does and he always wins his fights,
Point is, it’s not Johnny he’s going for, It’s what cobra kai did to him, did to the students(made them merciless jerks), and Doesn’t want anyone to experience the same thing
When I said It’s opposite it’s because
1.He doesn’t strike first
2.He doesn’t strike hard(doesn’t look hard but he usually wins fights with like 3-4 hits thrown so it’s probably hard)
3.He shows mercy
@@shadowfighter3100 But Daniel didn’t have to attack them afterwards. The waters were calm and nothing was happening. He could have still learned karate but he decided to start another conflict for zero to no reason at all.
Miyagi-do is the superior art, but Johnny Lawrence is the superior Sensei.
Now try to imagine if Johnny got a student who was a drop out that hangs out with criminals who learned martial arts for the wrong reason
i highly doubt Johnny would have been able to stop him from helping criminals, much less get him to think about his future
Robert C., I totally agree, Daniel is a complete failure, Johnny atleast caught up to his sensei somewhat whereas Daniel is no where near miyagi

How I would define the two Karates in one word?
Cobra Kai: Physical
Miyagi Do: Spiritual

In tournaments defense wins, in the street defense can only get you so far if you don’t lean offense.

Robby went from a drop out who was involved with criminals to kid who wanted to do better, that in itself is kind of a miracle
Remember Karate Kid 3 even a good kid with proper guidance can make the wrong choice and Daniel wasn't nearly as messed up as Robby

Cobra Kai When Kreese is in charge
Basically it’s the
Sword-cobra Kai
Shield-miyagi do
The shield is good for counter attacks once the opponent is distracted
But the sword is best when the first strike is landed
But I think they will fuse the two arts
In a philosophy
The greatest victory is to turn an adversary into an ally. I think the finale of the series will be the creation of the "Kobra Miyagi Do" dojo where all the best aspects of both martial arts will be taught.
Would be pretty cool if Johnny went to Daniel, told him about Kreese and asked to learn Meogi-do to get his dojo back. It would certainly be a lesson of balance, I think if a team up happened Mr.Meogi would be happy. As a side to that I think he would have been really upset to see the school fight.
Never put passion over principle. Such great advice Daniel should use.
Violence should always be a last resort. But if you’ve tried everything to avoid it, then show no mercy 👊🏽
Good analysis, informative history lesson, and great questions for the viewer to ponder. 👍
As Barney Stinson said, Johnny is the True Karate Kid.
How I met your mother 😂
Bruton Gaster
To be fair looking in Robby’s perspective he was kind of jealous on Miguel for spending more time with his dad (just when he decided to let go of his anger and visit him the day Johnny gave his old gi to Miguel), was just being friendly with Sam after realising he had a boyfriend and actually gave her a useful advise (cause she is the daughter of his sensei) and in the tournament when offered his hand to Miguel he injured him in a low move.
Basically Miguel’s mistakes in S1 ending made Robby believed Miguel was just an aggressive thug and when the moment came he made the same thing to Miguel (showing Mercy or Respect) only this time Robby’s mistake resulted in tragedy...
@@creedbratton7237
@Bruton Gaster Miguel completely lost his way through the teaching methods of Cobra Kai it turned him into an angry and very arrogant individual, Robby obviously liked Sam but he never crossed any line plus he was respective at first she had a boyfriend until the beach incident, Miguel jumped to conclusions and pushed Robby and resulted in hurting Sam in the process.
Im with Miguel on this one. Robby is a douche
miyagi-do as always. because he taught Daniel how to remain calm for defense, and how to never strike first.

First punch can be the past punch
Lol Daniel is a hot head
Oh wow if your prediction comes true I can totally see Johnny as the head sensei teaching classes while Daniel is the "grandmaster" running the business.
I think the whole show has a strong message of yin and yang.
Daniel and johnny learned different, opposite karate philosophies, but in the end they will thrive off of each others' ideas (thats my theory, that they will learn from each others mistakes to help shape each others' futures)
Yin and yang also contain a piece of the other.
As a lifelong martial artist and huge fan of both the classic movies and this series, I have to say, this is an absolutely amazing video, fantastic breakdown and analysis, and great pacing (since I'm a film guy and video editor as well haha.) Very well done.
but where do you stand on the question?
Personally i think a merge of both is needed.
Everything wss better when Jhonny opened cobra kai.....but because of kreese everything got fd up
Kevinus Maximus Thomas wrong. Kreese is just trying to bring Cobra Kai back to where it should be. Johnny is the one who has lost his way.
steelerfreak1977 wtf r u smoking? I wanna try some of it
@@steelerfreak1977 You understand Kreese himself realizes he's sick in the head right?
That's why kreese incorporated his way of fighting because he does not want to lose ever again and Mr.miyagi is the way he is because he came back with a victory in the war
FYI this is my opinion so plz don't hate me for it
A victory so painful that he lost everything that he cared about.

I really got inspired by your comment btw

Your analysis is pretty good. I still think the underlying idea in the script is to present a paradox and a false polemic. That there's a struggle to find the roots and make choices for all the agents in the show. This is what keeps things great, the unresolved paradox that leaves the audience to struggle with resolution without end.
Cobra Kai is a better style. Hitting bags, sparring and body conditioning. All that Miyagi-do seem to do is tai chi and a sloppy version of seinchin.
Cobra Kai training with miyagi-do philosophy would be a powerful and balanced combination.
@@derek96720 Yeah there's bit of that about. The style I'm doing in Osaka, Itosu-Ryu (falls under the Shtio Rya family), Fits the Bags, conditioning, kumite and kata into 2 or 3 hour training sessions.

Me too I possibility huge fan Daniel larusso and Mr. Miyagi so i'm 100% of miyagi do team

@@humzaqureshi1391 - My friend - can you can see the contradiction between your chosen preference and the tone and language of your response?
Johnny knew how to keep his keep his love for teaching karate from affecting his decisions in life and whereas Daniel had let in take over his life.
most comments are full paragraphs and then there's me thinking cobra kai's better idk why
Yin and Yang, Miyago Do and Cobra Kai, defense and offense (with a bit of offense within the defense and a bit of defense within the offense). A balance of both is best, IMO.
It’s the Unstoppable force when it meets an immovable object
Thank you. Somebody finally said what I've always said about these two styles of karate. It's Miyagi-do that teaches the superior form of martial arts (at least in The Karate Kid and Cobra Kai) because it aims to strike proper balance and it is in that form that Miyagi-do wins.
I always root for the underdogs. Always.
I like how the the thumbnail just shows everyone looking at each other, and then Mr. Miyagi is just distracted looking at the camera taking the pic for the thumbnail
Mr. Miyagi was like: *Kreese a big fat loser compared to me.*
Both actually complement each other if put together your a force no1 wants to mess with
I think Miyagi do because the fact that they don’t need to strike first as well as it’s moral also shows that are more skilled.
Jordan Rucksack 123 Robby almost killed miguel dont bullshit That.
When one punch can knock a person out, you're wrong.
styles can not be skilled, people can be. So the skill level of either student can vary greatly the philosophy has nothing to do with it.

J͙A͙M͙E͙S͙'X͙M͙ 卐卐 yeah I know, he just wasn’t taught right, I do prefer Miguel over Robby as well but I’m talking about the actual style not the individual students, just all of them in general.
I agree with all of your statements and you made very good points.
The practitioner makes the art work, and they take it to the highest level of their ability.
I want to see them combine both styles. Good video.
Cobra Kai- Dark Side (Sith)
Miyagi Do- Light Side (Jedi)
Both had their own purposes and rules.
He is the best because out of the three he is trying to improve his style the other two are not.
this video you did is definitely awesome idea putting cobra kai and against the miyagi do in that good job
Cobra kai has really changed the karate kid because you can see Johnnys side of the argument
Miyagi Do closely resembles what I have practiced for close to 30 years......Shotokan Karate-do. Shotokan originated in Okinawa by Gichin Funakoshi. His five 'rules' are.
- Seek perfection of character.
- Be faithful
- Endeavor
- Respect others
- Refrain from violent behavior.
But I’m biased, as I’ve trained in Krav Maga, which is far more similar (but not identical) to Cobra Kai.
with both styles together you can make the ultimate karate kid
Team Miyagi do
Even though currently its shut down daniel really helped robby and demitri
He helped robby get out of a life of crime and helped demitri gain confidence
I know what happened to miguel was bad but miguel still struck robby first and also tripped him when robby tried to stop the fight again. And robby clearly didn’t mean for miguel to get hurt as badly as he did(you can tell by how shocked he looked).
I love this guy's analysisis on cobra kai, it makes me wonder why kind of analysis he will make for season 3, if at all
I think my handle icon says it all. #teammiyagido And say what you will about Daniel's training, Miyagi-do saved those kids--especially Demetri and Sam--from being critically injured and/or killed.
Also i don't think Johnny could make a criminal/dropout who wanted to learn karate for wrong reasons want to do better the way Daniel did
@@FullMetalJedi Exactly. The resentment was strong with Johnny and Robby--each thinking the other ruined their life.
@@katemaloney4296 i don't believe Johnny thinks Robby ruined his life, but i do think he should have manned up to be his father
Miguel had a clean record and Carmen said before Johnny he was a sweet boy so Johnny didn't have to work as hard to uncorrupt him
Also it was Johnny who started to corrupt the kid in the first place even before Kreese came back
When Miguel learns myagi do he is. Going to be overpowered
When you fight someone lacking the same restraints and rules as you, honor and mercy is a weakness. Miyagi do only works fighting an honorable enemy
That’s not true. Just look at Miyagi when he fought Johnny and his crew, Kreese and Silver. Those dudes had no honour yet still backed off when Miyagi beat them down.
Cobra Kai works if you don’t compromise on being a fundamentally good person. Abandon pride while embracing self respect and respect for others
Miyagi Do is the better
Agreed
If the thumbnail was a poster I would buy it
Krav Maga vs Cobra Kai
Johnny Lawrence was improving Cobra Kai, just before things went south with Robbie kicking Miguel off the balcony. Johnny even said, I want Cobra Kai to be better to Daniel. He was teaching his students that mercy should be shown in certain situations, but he forgot to mention to his students, that you should never let your guard down, even when showing that mercy. I actually think Cobra Kai, under sensei Johnny Lawrence, was on the path to being the best dojo in the valley, if not the world.
No style is better than the other, it's the fighter that determines the outcome..
Not really. A years worth of No Gi BJJ dominates majority of a years worth of the other arts besides wrestling.
Miyagi-do is no more fictional or generic than Cobra Kai is. As CK is rooted in Tang Soo Do, MD is rooted in Goju Ryu.
