If you read James DeMeos (from USA) website you can find out, why the isolated Ego gives some aggressive and egocentric raw strength in short terms but does not give real inner strength and sustainable psychic development of the soul in long terms. Because real inner psychic strength of the soul comes from psychic roots of the soul in tradition and spirtuality and nature and culture, whereform you can draw real inner strength and energy and balance and harmony and hold and holdness and stability. The aggressive egoists and egomaniacs and egocentrics do cut off their psychic roots of their soul and get isolated and loose their roots and get blinded by their ego.

Just found a reference: In the scene where the old CK's are visiting Tommy, Johnny tells him how in the '83 championship, Tommy beat "Vidal" to get to the semi finals. Vidal being the real life martial artist who developed the crane kick for the first KK film and was Pat Morita's stunt double.
@Jim Harol Just google them. Bobby, the pastor, was the one from the original that told Johnny “he’s had enough” when they ganged up on Daniel in the skeleton costumes, Tommy, the one that died, was the one that said “get him a body bag” at the tournament. Unfortunately the actor really did pass away from cancer a few months after filming that episode. Which is why he looked so rough. The one with the flowers at the hospital didn’t really have a huge part in the original, but he was there on the bikes, you have to look close in the original movie.
Nice! You missed 17:10 one when Johnny walks in and Kresse says "class we have a visitor". Kreese also said this in KK1 when Miyagi and Daniel visit the Cobra Kai Dojo after the Halloween fight.
Showing mercy was not Miguel's downfall. Lowering his guard to his opponent was his downfall. As Miyagi said, "Eye! Always look EYE!" Basically same principle.
@The SN It didn't work for Robby because Daniel wasn't an effective teacher. Why do people feel so strongly against Miyagi-Do and Daniel's situation when both of the protagonists are completely understandable in their situations?
Calling it now. we will not see a full DvJ fight to the end. I predict the last scene of the series will be a friendly sparring match that ends Rocky III style.
Two other things: - the whole season takes place over summer break, as did the karate kid part 2 occurring over Daniels summer break before college - the trashing of the miyagi dojo is a throwback to the ancestral dojo getting trashed by Sato's men Great stuff
Or even the nerds house being destroyed by the Alpha Betas. The speech the nerd kid makes at the party is also reminiscent of the speech the nerds give at the end of the movie.
It's ironic that in karate kid, Ali ends her relationship on the beach with Johnny, and the final episode, she reaches out to Johnny to reconnect while he is at the beach.
The title of S2E6, "Take A Right", is actually a reference to one of Tommy's first lines in KK1: "Take a right, check it out!" I never would have noticed it myself if not for someone in the comments of that episode pointing it out. I also noticed, and this one's seriously reaching, but at the skating rink when Miguel tries to go to Sam to apologize, she asks him coldly, "What do you want?" and it sounds just like when Ali says the same thing to Daniel in the 2nd trip to Golf N' Stuff.
A lot of the episode titles are fairly deep cut references to lines from the older films. There's obvious stuff like "Glory of Love" and "No Mercy" but then you get stuff like "Take a Right" and "Ace Degenerate"
this is how a sequel must be done to a legendary story.. really love how they introduce the next generation of karate kid by respecting the old characthers.. they even throw some easter eggs from the past storyline.. the 2nd season makes it even better with the reunion of the old cobras (even thou it is only 1 episode) and give a hint of the return of alli.. Disney should have learned this when they make Star Wars sequels.
I wonder if Chad McQueen regrets not doing the episode w/the fellas. I really missed seeing him as he was one of my favorite OG CKs. It would have been cool to see him.
When Johnny tells the story about going to see Rocky 3, theres a connection there. The song Youre the Best from first Karate Kid, was originally meant to be used in Rocky 3. They used Eye of the Tiger instead, leaving the song to be used on Karate Kid.
When Johnny and Daniel are at dinner with wives and they are recalling a story about blueberry pie on the clothes in school cafeteria, that was an actual deleted scene from KK1. I had the book and it even had a picture of the deleted scene.
Binged season 2 yesterday and have been eagerly awaiting your review. Thanks for this! I had trouble stomaching the ending, but even I have to admit that it was incredibly well-written.
The ending was gut wrenching and it leaves questions: Would that mean that the cobra kai students would run the school and torment the Miyagi-do students? Will Miguel ever fully recover from that spine fracture? If Miyagi-do is gone, how can they survive? If Ali comes back, then what? Would Carmen forgive Johnny? Can Johnny and Daniel set aside their difference and make a new dojo to take down Kresse's Cobra Kai? Truly an awesome show on RUclips, questionably the only true great show on RUclips red.
Agree with both of you, definally well-written, credit goes to the film crew(directors, producers, etc etc) and Stars of Cobra kai. one hell of a cliff-hanger and a lot to think about for the next season.
@@TheGrave10der I like the idea of Johnny and Daniel uniting. But, I think Johnny is finished with karate. The death or permanent injury of Miguel may forever change him. Too much has been lost. Sort of like Bruce Lee swearing off fighting in Fist of Fury.
@@nothosaur Bruce Lee actually wrote The Tao of Jeet Kune Do while recuperating from a back injury instead of giving up Kung Fu. I doubt Johnny will give it up, but I do feel you have a good point, Lee's character in Fist of Fury had good reason to quit. I wouldn't blame Johnny for quitting either.
Maybe Miguel gets mad at Johnny for teaching him mercy so he goes over to Daniel to learn self defense but I doubt Miguel would leave Johnny he’s basically a son to Johnny
@@darkojehu And Miguel will be their secret weapon. Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's first bionic man. Miguel Diaz will be that man. Better than he was before. Better...stronger...faster.
In the season finale, Sam is holding a copy of the book “The Outsiders” which starred Ralph Macchio as the character Johnny in the movie of “The Outsiders.”
17:57 "hashbrown StoryDive" 😂 Johnny Lawrence: "Put one of those hashbrowns on it... you know, hashbrown TeamCobraKai... then SEND IT TO THE INTERNET!"
another detail: while you correctly pointed out the “hawk” references, it would be funny to note that also “stingray” hid under the ground like a stingray would on the ocean ground
The reference to anything Peter Cetera and any of his song was what I was waiting for since season 1, and Im glad they did. Glory of Love was Karate Kid's ultimate love theme.
also, in the last episode right before the big fight, samantha was holding up a book called ‘the outsiders’ which was made into a movie in the 1980’s that ralph macchio was a main character in, he played johnny cade
I wonder if Miguel will end up like Johnny cade (outsiders). When Johnny burnt his back. As long as he doesn't say, "stay golden". That would throw a huge monkey wrench at the series.
Yeah, good catch. When I first saw it I thought him rescuing Robby wasn't interesting enough as an Easter Egg, but watching it again, he drops down from above like Miyagi at the beginning and holds his hands out, scanning like Miyagi at the end. Definitely intentional.
This is a great video, thank you for posting! I also have two more VERY subtle ones... 1. When Johnny has the cement mixer turning and asks them if they think winning the tournament makes them badass and he says "That don't mean squat!". That's a direct reference to the first film when the skeletons are beating Daniel and Bobby says "look at him Dutch, he can't even stand up!" and Dutch replies, "Yeah, that don't mean squat!" 2. And this may be a reach but I'm curious to know anyone else's views here. I think there was a very subtle reference to Julie from Next Karate Kid. When Daniel is teaching Robby and Samantha the Wheel Technique, he said it's been a long time since Miyagi Do had more than one student. WHEN did Miyagi do have more than one? The only thing I can think of is he's referring to Julie who must have trained with Miyagi past the film and then when Daniel came back from college perhaps the two of them trained together for a while? We know Daniel continued training with Miyagi after he came back from college, so perhaps there was some time when Daniel and Julie trained together. After all, the Wheel Technique IS a two-person technique. Could this be a reference or inclusion of Julie?
I'm looking forward to season 3. Some interesting arcs in store such as Johnny's redemption arc where he helps with Miguel's recovery and eventually takes back his dojo from Kreese, I think reconnecting with Alli will be a catalyst. The climax of the season has to be the next all valley tournament.
Dude...don't diss Iron Eagle! Lol I think Tory's grabbing the microphone and calling out Sam was a bit of a Rambo 2 reference..."I'm coming to get you Murdock/B*tch."
The showrunners said they don't have a deal with Coors. Johnny was written to drink Coors because it was popular in the 80s but isn't anymore. They chose Banquet because Coors focuses their advertising on Coors Lite, which made Banquet an underdog of sorts in their eyes.
@@svenstereo8461 actually, Banquet has been enjoying a huge resurgence in popularity over the past several years, before Cobra Kai began airing. And IMHO, Coors beats the crap out of Coors Light. There's a reason Big and Little Enos Burdette were willing to pay $80K for someone to run 400 cases of it to 'em in Atlanta, y'know!
I saw that coming from the moment he was said to be terminal. In fact, I saw the whole roadtrip storyline as a device to get Tommy in a bodybag, as he wouldn't been put in one if he'd died in a hospital.
Yeah that was hilarious. Didn't get it was a Lee vs Norris reference though haha. It looks like they've really thrown quite a lot of Easter Eggs in there. These writers are great
@@RustyX2010 I dunno. They seem more middle school age to me- Bert 7th, *maybe* 8th, Asian kid 6th/7th. But of course they could be young Sheldons (just academically) I suppose.
I'm guessing was easier for the prop guy's to track down a beige 1940s Chevy Truck than a green 1950's Pontiac Woodie Wagon, as that's the one that's missing from Cobra Kai.
Excellent video and great editing. I’ll add another. Ep 8-Daniels Mom buys him Minute Maid and in the original he tells her he’s “on Minute Maid” I know it was popular in the 80s haha
One missed Easter egg: Daniel referencing Hilary Swank's character from "The Next Karate Kid" when he said "It's been a long time since Miyagi-Do had more than one student" after Sam joins in...
This is so good. A couple other notes: Johnny used the term “don’t mean squat” as well - another nod to Dutch. Also, I think Robby actually says “Dan Johnson” inadvertently vs Don. Plus, always great to see Randee Heller reprising her role as Lucille Larusso. Loved the story about cony island and if memory serves, that may be the only mention of Daniel’s father in the entire canon other than when Daniel references his father’s passing in part II after Miyagi’s father died. I thought that was a powerful scene.
There is a Lost Boys series in development at The CW from the creator of Veronica Mars, iZombie & Party Down Rob Thomas (Not the musician) which has the plan of being set over 70 years with each season taking place over a decade
I think you forgot about the expressions on Tory and Johnny's faces when Kreese said "finiish him." In both Karate Kid and Cobra Kai they give him questioning looks when he said it.
Exactly, and that’s how Johnny gets back in good graces with Migel’s mother since he’ll get Ali there somehow, kind of like a “you saved my son” moment
Here is a theory just wanted to run it by you all in the chat. Kreese took over Cobra Kai and he mentioned Johnny's landlord, so which means he took over by signing papers to pay the rent and ect... Now the show made it clear that Kreese was homeless and broke. Where did he get the money? Now let's see in Karate Kid III Terry Silver bank rolled Kreese to start Cobra Kai and even helped him open it again with Mike Barnes... Now does this mean Terry Silver backed Kreese again, or possibly Mike Barnes... Also did you catch in Cobra Kai season I where Johnny after the lady mistakenly thought Johnny called her a, "B****"" Johnny argues with a guy on the phone about the incident and gets fired. Did anyone notice Johnny before hanging up said, "You owe me money, Mike" could that be Mike Barnes? Just a thought, can't wait until season 3!!!!!!!
Could be Mike Barnes too. In the first scene of season 1 Johnny is talking to his boss named Mike (possibly Mike Barnes). If its the same Mike then he is a business owner and could have some money to finance the dojo.
The rental agreement was based on a handshake deal, no contracts. Creese could simply do what Johnny was doing, and pay the rent with the money from the classes.
I also think Coyote creek may have been he test Kreese put Jonny and his buddies on in the first Karate kid as Jonny is wearing a headband when they are introduced in the first movie. Maybe he won.
Don't know if anyone else caught this, but for his dating profile, Johnny notes that cavemen are cool . . . a reference to William Z's role as Chas in Rodney Dangerfield's "Back to School". The caveman party was supposed to be one of his fraternity's biggest and best parties of the year. Might have even called it the biggest or best "rager".
Proposed drinking game (non-alcoholic, please, for anyone younger than us who saw the original movies in the theater...!) 1. Drink every time somebody says "badass". That is all.
That final phone screen shot of Alli's message sort of reminded me of the end of Avengers Infinity War, when we see Nick Fury's pager sending a signal to Captain Marvel. Also, wasn't Elizabeth Shue's brother Andrew Shue an unnamed member of Cobra Kai in the original Karate Kid movie? I'd wonder if he might show up too.
Also Ali didn’t accept Johnny’s friend request - Ali sent Johnny a friend request. Johnny only sent her a message (and that was even by mistake). It’s obvious Ali read his message and is now trying to reconnect with him. Also, perhaps the biggest homage is the Cobra Kai 2 poster you show at the very end is a direct repeat of the original Karate Kid movie poster. Great video though!!
Johnny's final line with Ali should be: "...you are really important to me, have been for 35 years but just like a told my students: if you don't move forward you will dry up and get stuck like cement. I need to move forward and i wish you the best..." Johnny reconciles with Carmen giving Miguel and himself a true and complete family...
This series is epic. It is bridging the past with the present and erupting emotions across America. This is what America needed a return to classic heartfelt story telling with a powerful message in the background.
Missed another reference... When Johnny and Daniel are having dinner, they are talking about him sitting on blueberry pie..... THAT WAS A DELETED SCENE FROM KARATE KID 1
You know I must have seen the original Karate Kid movie a million times since it first came out in 84, and I didn't notice until this year that Freddy and his friends were at the tournament cheering for Daniel when he won. That was some bullshit. I mean don't get me wrong, I understand their reasoning for immediately distancing themselves from Daniel who inserted himself into an argument between Alli and Johnny and got the crap kicked out of him for his troubles, then again distanced themselves from him on the soccer yard when he tried to talk to them, so it made absolutely no sense on the part of the writers to show them cheering for him at the end when they'd had no other interactions.
It is absolutely astounding the amount of fan service these writers were able to put into this show. And I think it's no mistake this video pointing them all out. The writers knew exactly what they were doing and were brilliant in the way they put all.of it together in a cohesive story that harkens back to the original story. I have to watch this show.
Also at the end Kreese said he went and bought the dojo back from the realtor, where did he go during the time he was kicked out by Johnny to the ending scene? To see Terry? Who bought back the location ala KK3? And kreese made himself look poor to gain sympathy, who else do we know that tried that exact tactic 😁😁
Robby actually said people though he was some guy named "Dan" Johnson. Clearly meant to be Don Johnson but also to underscore that he has no clue who that is.
The Revenge of the Nerds references are possibly because Larry B. Scott who played Lamar in ROTN, was in Karate Kid 1 and is one of the first competitors to lose to Daniel LaRusso in the film's finale.
I think you missed the one when they are the party and one kids says to Hawk. "Remember what sensei said about mercy" its a reference to what Bobby says to Johnny at school after Kreese tells them not to touch him before the tournament

Also to point out: Johnny didn’t have the guts to see his newborn son in the hospital, but he did go to the same hospital for his student Miguel
what can i say, he loves Miguel more.. let’s be honest
Nice! You missed 17:10 one when Johnny walks in and Kresse says "class we have a visitor". Kreese also said this in KK1 when Miyagi and Daniel visit the Cobra Kai Dojo after the Halloween fight.
Yeah.. Yeah... Back on there, Kreese oppose Miyagi & Daniel. But for now, he look his best student as his opponent.
@@robertcuterman2511 regardless, it's an Easter Egg!
100% , I noticed the same! Even the training was the same, "eitz! Kill! Eitz kill". (or whatever they are saying)
Showing mercy was not Miguel's downfall. Lowering his guard to his opponent was his downfall. As Miyagi said, "Eye! Always look EYE!" Basically same principle.
Yea he couldve said sorry while still holding his arm or something lol
Showing mercy is not the same as letting your guard down, guys.
But clearly, Miguel didn't know the difference.
@@pusmana12 No. It means he made a mistake. People do make mistakes even with training ( masters as well).
@The SN It didn't work for Robby because Daniel wasn't an effective teacher.
Why do people feel so strongly against Miyagi-Do and Daniel's situation when both of the protagonists are completely understandable in their situations?
So you are saying Master Tatsu would have been a better sensei?
Calling it now. we will not see a full DvJ fight to the end. I predict the last scene of the series will be a friendly sparring match that ends Rocky III style.
Lol, the credits roll on the freeze frame before they land the first punch.
Ding... ding.
I believe they mentioned that Rocky scene toward the end of last season right before Johnny found out Robbie was working with Daniel.
@@StoryDive or each make 1 point and ends with them close to give the next move...
Bro hopefully they make a spin-off 🤞
Two other things:
- the whole season takes place over summer break, as did the karate kid part 2 occurring over Daniels summer break before college
- the trashing of the miyagi dojo is a throwback to the ancestral dojo getting trashed by Sato's men
Great stuff
Miyagi dojo getting destroyed
Miyagis medal getting stolen
Valley fest
All leading up to the school fight
Quite the cruel summer for Daniel
Or even the nerds house being destroyed by the Alpha Betas. The speech the nerd kid makes at the party is also reminiscent of the speech the nerds give at the end of the movie.
Also the bonzai store being destroyed in KK3
@@crashcitygames1592 I think they might have the auto store getting trashed be the call back for that.
Ali Mills didn't accept Johnnys friend request, she sent him one
Came to the comments to say that
No it said on his phone that she accepted his friend request.
@@scottmatthias5142 Read it again, it clearly says "Ali Mills Schwarber has sent you a friend request"
Yeah, because Johnny didn't send her a friend request...just the message.
It's ironic that in karate kid, Ali ends her relationship on the beach with Johnny, and the final episode, she reaches out to Johnny to reconnect while he is at the beach.
And in Over The Top, Stallone's name is Lincoln Hawk ...
and had child support issues in it too
Exactly, and they were "going to Hawk's house" to watch it.
How Terry Funk didn't win Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars for his role in Over the Top...
Stallone: "PEEEENIS!!!" xD
Oh I get it, their favorite band is Lincoln Park. Nice catch. Haha jk
"Everyone's doing something new", Yeah, Tommy stirring the pot there.
this is how a sequel must be done to a legendary story.. really love how they introduce the next generation of karate kid by respecting the old characthers.. they even throw some easter eggs from the past storyline.. the 2nd season makes it even better with the reunion of the old cobras (even thou it is only 1 episode) and give a hint of the return of alli.. Disney should have learned this when they make Star Wars sequels.

The blueberry pie scene also appears in the Cobra Kai tie in comic book in Issue #2. It looks amazing, in comic book form as well.

There is so much to talk about and process in this season because it was so good.
I kinda wanna see Miguel and Daniel interact
Maybe Miguel gets mad at Johnny for teaching him mercy so he goes over to Daniel to learn self defense but I doubt Miguel would leave Johnny he’s basically a son to Johnny
This will happen in season 3. You see, Daniel and Johnny will join forces and open a satanic karate dojo to defeat Kreese.

another detail: while you correctly pointed out the “hawk” references, it would be funny to note that also “stingray” hid under the ground like a stingray would on the ocean ground
The reference to anything Peter Cetera and any of his song was what I was waiting for since season 1, and Im glad they did. Glory of Love was Karate Kid's ultimate love theme.
also, in the last episode right before the big fight, samantha was holding up a book called ‘the outsiders’ which was made into a movie in the 1980’s that ralph macchio was a main character in, he played johnny cade
claire r not to mention the outsiders also features a gang conflict and brawl between highschoolers
M L good thinking!
I wonder if Miguel will end up like Johnny cade (outsiders). When Johnny burnt his back. As long as he doesn't say, "stay golden". That would throw a huge monkey wrench at the series.

You missed the one where Daniel jumps in to save Robbie and beat up the bad guys just like Miyagi saved Daniel on Halloween night in Karate Kid 1
Eddie Bennetto Indeed. That was an "Easter Egg" missed. I saw the same reference as well.
Yeah, good catch. When I first saw it I thought him rescuing Robby wasn't interesting enough as an Easter Egg, but watching it again, he drops down from above like Miyagi at the beginning and holds his hands out, scanning like Miyagi at the end. Definitely intentional.
Caught this one as well. I even remarked to my wife "that's just like when Miyagi saved Daniel!"
Holy CRAP! I missed that one!!! 😳
SHUT! I THINK I MISSED THIS ONE WHEN WATCHING! YOU ARE RIGHT! :D :D :D
This is a great video, thank you for posting! I also have two more VERY subtle ones...
1. When Johnny has the cement mixer turning and asks them if they think winning the tournament makes them badass and he says "That don't mean squat!". That's a direct reference to the first film when the skeletons are beating Daniel and Bobby says "look at him Dutch, he can't even stand up!" and Dutch replies, "Yeah, that don't mean squat!"
2. Could this be a reference or inclusion of Julie?
not a stretch at all! Nice catch on #1 as well!

I'd like to know how much Coors spent on advertising because next time I'm at a bar I'm getting a banquet
I've only drank Coors banquet if available in the last year. My friends too.
The showrunners said they don't have a deal with Coors. Johnny was written to drink Coors because it was popular in the 80s but isn't anymore. They chose Banquet because Coors focuses their advertising on Coors Lite, which made Banquet an underdog of sorts in their eyes.
I can never find a bar with Banquet. It’s always Coors Light. :/
I think it's Johnny's beer of choice because of price or availability. Maybe someone he looked up to drank Coors?

i think johnny and daniel will work togther- and robby will feel blamed and deserted and will turn to cobra kai - my take on season 3 cobra kai
Good point
Could be Mike Barnes too. In the first scene of season 1 Johnny is talking to his boss named Mike (possibly Mike Barnes). If its the same Mike then he is a business owner and could have some money to finance the dojo.
The rental agreement was based on a handshake deal, no contracts. Creese could simply do what Johnny was doing, and pay the rent with the money from the classes.
I've heard Barnes was supposed to be on the show at some point.
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEALLY hoping for some Terry Silver, since day 1.
I also think Coyote creek may have been he test Kreese put Jonny and his buddies on in the first Karate kid as Jonny is wearing a headband when they are introduced in the first movie. Maybe he won.
Yeah, good call. Same headband.
Lawrence Robinson but he also explains in season 1 that Ali gave him the headband on their fist date at golf n stuff
This is one of the best videos I've seen. Not sensationalistic, but very well thought out and full of substance. Great job dude!
No need to take shots at Trapper Keepers, those were the shit back in the day.

He should be Miguel's Dad. It would we awesome
Proposed drinking game (non-alcoholic, please, for anyone younger than us who saw the original movies in the theater...!)
"Daniel's not a cultural appropriator, he's a filthy weeaboo."
That broke me! XD
yeah funny as shit, loved that one
Also Ali didn’t accept Johnny’s friend request - Ali sent Johnny a friend request. Johnny only sent her a message (and that was even by mistake). It’s obvious Ali read his message and is now trying to reconnect with him.
Also, perhaps the biggest homage is the Cobra Kai 2 poster you show at the very end is a direct repeat of the original Karate Kid movie poster.
Great video though!!
she was probably looking him up
Very good point :)
Johnny was wearing Miguel's baseball tee from season 1 in his dream sequence.
TEAM MIGUEL!! COBRA KAI NEVER DIE!!!
When they're training in the freezer the pallet in the scene is labeled "Fernandez Meats". Could the company be owned by Freddy Fernandez?
You never know! Daniels old neighbor could make a cameo in season 3 as well!
In addition to dancing with the stars, we also see Daniel is a good dancer with Kumiko in Karate Kid 2 👍
Ali didn't "accept johnny's friend request." she SENT him one.
He realized his mistake and wrote a comment
In episode 10, Sam was reading The Outsiders book, which Ralph Macchio was in The Outsiders movie.
I think you missed the one when they are the party and one kids says to Hawk. "Remember what sensei said about mercy" its a reference to what Bobby says to Johnny at school after Kreese tells them not to touch him before the tournament
